Cabin accommodations near Millersburg sit at elevations between 900-1200 feet in Ohio's Mohican region. Winter temperatures often drop below freezing from December through February, with summer highs averaging in the 80s. Most cabin rental facilities remain open from April through October, though several properties like Evergreen Park RV Resort operate year-round with heated indoor facilities.
What to do
Hike free primitive trails: Mohican State Park Campground offers 10 free primitive backpacking sites about a mile hike in. "There are 10 free camp sites for backpackers in Mohican, each is about a mile hike in, no vehicles can reach these sites. There are 4 on the mountain bike trail and 6 on the horse trails, first come first serve, no reservations," notes John H.
Winter camping options: Evergreen Park RV Resort stays open year-round with heated indoor facilities. One visitor shared: "We camped here the second weekend in December and had the park mostly to ourselves. There were only 3 other campers there. The game room was nice as well as the indoor pool."
Fish in stocked ponds: Many camping areas maintain fishing spots, especially for families with children. "My boys were able to walk across the road to get to the pond that was well stocked with fish. It was catch and release but they were very excited to pull in some big ones," reported Emily about her stay at Whispering Hills.
What campers like
Large, private sites: Mohican Wilderness receives high marks for spacious campsites. "We have camped here 3 times now and even though it's a large park the sites are huge so you still feel like you can kick back and relax. Quiet neighbors and friendly staff plus everything is mowed and well maintained," notes Andrea F.
Winter stargazing: The Millersburg area offers excellent dark sky viewing during off-season stays. "No light pollution so the stars were beautiful!" reported one camper at Toodik Family Campground during an off-season stay.
Riverside locations: Mohican State Park Campground offers waterfront options. "Beautiful campsites on the water and near it. Playgrounds, cabins, camper cabins, tent sites & camper sites. Some camper sites have electric & water," explains Renée C., adding that winter camping offers a more peaceful experience.
What you should know
Off-season facilities: Winter cabin rentals have limited bathroom access. "First come first serve in the winter. One heated bathroom with a shower is open in the winter," notes a Mohican State Park visitor.
GPS navigation issues: Several campers report problems with GPS directions to cabins in the area. "Getting here proved to be tricky, as it seems all of the GPS apps and my Garmin routed us on a county road that is not fit for RVs of any type," warns Gregory L. about Wally World. He advises: "If your GPS says to take ANY township roads, just don't. They are not paved, steep, and/or have sharp turns."
Cell service limitations: Mobile coverage varies widely throughout the region. "No cell service with Verizon at this park," notes one Mohican State Park visitor, which can impact planning and communication during your stay.
Tips for camping with families
Indoor pool access: Mohican Adventures Campground and Cabins offers indoor swimming options. "We tent camped and had a private spot in the woods which we loved. The campgrounds covers all the basics. We fished and swam in the indoor pool," shares Lo H.
Game facilities: Many campgrounds maintain recreation buildings for rainy days. The Evergreen Park visitor mentioned "the game room was nice as well as the indoor pool," making it suitable for families needing indoor options.
Off-peak scheduling: Consider weekday visits for a quieter experience. "Me and a friend went in the middle of the week and as a result practically had the entire Buzzard section of the Primitive tent camping section to ourselves," shares Jacob W. about his Mohican Adventures experience.
Tips from RVers
Weight restrictions: Toodik Family Campground and other facilities may have bridges or roads with weight limits. One visitor notes: "Do note the bridge you need to cross has a weight limit of 10 tons, so larger rigs will need to come up Wally Road from the south."
Portable waste tanks: Not all cabin and RV sites include full hookups. "Only downside is most of the sites don't have a sewer hookup so make sure to bring a portable tank if you are staying for more than a couple of days," advises Gregory L. about Wally World.
Site levelness: Plan for uneven terrain at some locations. "The spaces down by the river are large and relatively flat so easy to find a tent space," notes one Toodik Family Campground visitor, while another mentions: "The only complaint is that the sites are not flat."
