Silver Springs Campground in Stow offers quiet camping just 15 minutes from Green, Ohio. Located within the Cuyahoga Valley watershed, the campground features tent and RV sites on grassy areas with surrounding trees. The area has an average summer temperature of 82°F, making it comfortable for camping from April through October.
What to do
Dog-friendly adventures: Silver Springs Campground features a dedicated dog swimming area that stands out among dog friendly campgrounds near Green. "Fantastic dog park with a swimming beach for dogs only. Fun to watch them play even if you don't have a dog," notes Judy F. The park also offers wooded walking trails on the east and north sides of the campground.
Towpath biking: Heritage Farms provides camping access to the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. "Located about ½ mile off the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath, this campground is a part of a 5th generation working farm," explains Shari G. The trail stretches 101 miles through northeast Ohio and connects to Peninsula, where you can visit Century Cycles for bike repairs or rentals.
Watercraft rentals: Enjoy water activities on the Tuscarawas River at several campgrounds. "The lake was virtually algae free, and even during this pandemic, it didn't feel over crowded at any point," reports Chuck E. about Clay's Resort Jellystone Park, which offers a water park with zip-lining over water.
What campers like
Clean facilities: Bathrooms at pet-friendly locations are well-maintained. "The shower house was very nice. Updated showers and flush toilets. There were also sporadic bathrooms around the campground," shares Dawn R. about Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™- Akron/Canton, where premium and standard sites accommodate both tents and RVs.
Spacious sites: Campers appreciate room to spread out at multiple dog friendly campgrounds around Green. At Countryside Campground, "The pull thru sites were a tad small but nice and long. Even with the sites close together it was quiet and peaceful," notes Kathryn P. For tent campers, Tommy K. reports that "The 9 tent sites are very large and spacious."
Kid-friendly activities: Family-focused amenities keep children entertained. "This place is AMAZING for families with kids! Tons of planned activities (about every hour) for everyone to enjoy. Huge pool, gem mine, mini golf, and homemade ice cream!" exclaims Sally C. Many campgrounds organize weekend activities like crafts, scavenger hunts, and holiday-themed events.
What you should know
Quiet hours enforcement: Enforcement of quiet times varies between campgrounds. "We did get a huge storm the first night we were there so maybe that upset them?" observed Dawn R. about camper attitudes, while another visitor noted "There were two groups staying in cabins who were arguing loudly outside and playing loud music."
Site numbering: At Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA, site placement matters. "If your staying at this park for just the weekend or stopping by, ensure to get a space numbered under 100. All the 100+ spots are actually across a busy residential street," advises Never Sitting S. This arrangement affects access to amenities and is important for families with children.
Water conditions: Water quality varies by location. "The water smelled horrible, and both the shower head and faucet were caked with scum. My kids begged not to have to take a shower because of the smell," reports Hali R. At pet-friendly locations, having drinking water for dogs is important as some campgrounds have limited water sources.
Tips for camping with families
Book early for weekends: Popular pet-friendly campgrounds fill quickly, especially premium sites. "All sites are reservation only and they usually fill up fast," explains Renee G. about Mill Creek Camping. Weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day typically book 1-3 months in advance.
Pack for varied weather: Northeast Ohio weather can change rapidly. "We decided to stay after plenty of referrals from friends and family. Pleasantly surprised with how clean everything was... It did get very chilly when we were there," notes Brady R. about Heritage Farms. Bring layers even in summer as temperatures can drop into the 50s at night.
Check swimming hours: Pool facilities have specific hours and safety rules. "The pool hours were only 11a-7p. It would be nice if they would close the pool to the public a few hours of the day to allow campers exclusive access," suggests Dawn R. Many locations have hourly swimmer breaks, and some require life jackets.
Tips from RVers
Leveling challenges: Some sites require extra equipment for leveling RVs. "We have a 41 foot class A and we were centimeters from dragging our bumper crossing the road to park," notes Never Sitting S. Gary G. adds that "Our first visit at site #1 was very difficult to level a 24 ft trailer and full sun. Returned a few weeks later to site #4, was much more level and full shade."
Hookup limitations: Check electrical service details before booking. "Only 3-30 amp hooks ups, the rest are 20 amp," warns Judy F. about Silver Springs Campground. RV sites at most pet-friendly locations near Green offer water and electric connections, but not all provide sewer hookups or 50-amp service needed for larger air conditioning units.
Access considerations: Road conditions affect RV navigation. Cuttys Sunset Camping Resort offers pull-through sites with "easy access" according to Sonja M., making it suitable for larger rigs. However, at some campgrounds, "the spots are soooo small. You open your door and there is a picnic table and then the next camper. Really no room," cautions Scott B.
