    Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

    Big, beautiful lake!

Great park! Sites are spacious and level. Very clean park. There are several full hook-up sites. Electric sites near the lake. We stayed at site #96. New Bathrooms are under construction. Campground is flat and great for bike riding. Nice playground for kids. Dog park nearby. Camp is near beach & marina. Also many shops and restaurants within a 10 minute drive. We will definitely be coming back to Mosquito Lake!

Quiet, peaceful, close to all the things

We stopped here for a couple nights to go to a Cleveland Guardians game and go to Cuyahoga National Park. It was within great proximity to both and had all the amenities the kids and I love. Swimming (wish it were open a little later…) laundry 24/7, a game room, store with just what we needed to pick up a few things, a pond that seemed to always have someone fishing at it (that’s a good thing) and a big wide sites to spread out and have a nice campfire in. (Wood available 24/7 and trash pick up at the site in the AM). It’s always nerve wracking when the fire pits are close to the rigs - loved that these sits were wide. And while there are likely people here it feels nice and spread out.

Good location but expensive for what you get

Pros: closest camping to Cuyahoga National Park, safe, professional (labeled envelopes with information at check-in and wood delivery) Cons: bathrooms weren’t cleaned or restocked as frequently as necessary (overflowing trash cans, TP empty by 5 pm), shower curtains/showers had mildew, truly dirty bathroom floors, had to drive 1/4 mile to the one trash dumpster, unlevel sites

One more thing: there’s a significant raccoon and skunk problem along the section with water/electric back-in spots. We got to know our neighbors very well over two nights as we helped each other fend off multiple raids by entire families of raccoons and one very large, very bold skunk. We lost two camping chairs to the skunks because there was no way to fight them off once they moved into our shelter and, even without spraying, skunks tend to leave a scent behind on anything that’s fabric.

The price is okay in that it is the closest to the national park and the next closest campgrounds are the state park campgrounds (West Branch and Mosquito Lake), but the state park grounds are MUCH nicer and about $15 less per night. If you have the time to drive and can plan your trip months in advance to get reservations, West Branch is a better alternative.

    A ++

Always a great time at West Branch. The staff are very friendly and care a great deal about the quality of everyone's experience - they inspect and clean each site after the sites are vacated. The quiet hours are truly quiet, the bathrooms are very clean and fresh. Decided to rent a pontoon for the day - the boats were also very clean and well kept - they also have the option of an inner tube or jet skis if you want to rent those as well!

    Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

    Great State Park Campground

We just got back from our first trip to Mosquito Lake State Park Campground. All in all, it was a great experience.

We stayed in site 67, which is a waterfront site, with electric. The water is about 25 yards from the pad, but is visible from the entire site. The site was spacious, but not as private as some of the others. There is some woods between this site and the sites on either side, but other sites are visible. The fire pits and picnic tables were staggered, so it created some distance to make it feel more private.

The campground as a whole, was very quiet. We stayed from Wednesday to Friday. The group next to us seemed a little rowdy when we first pulled in, but by 10:00 there was no noise anywhere near us.

Most sites seemed pretty level from side to side, but where we were, several had a slope from front to back. Away from the waterfront, most sites looked pretty level. The amount of space between sites varied from site to site. Some sites had woods on both sides, while others were pretty open. Some had nice large grassy areas, others were much smaller. Sites from 214-224 are in a cul de sac and are water front, but they were pretty close together with very little privacy between sites, if any. They are very close to the water though.

There are bathrooms and water scatter about, but from what I saw there was only 1 shower house.

Wal-mart and other shopping and restaurants were about 3 miles away. Park was easy to get to, only one turn for us off the highway. Lake was great for kayaking and paddleboarding. Very nice dog park in a different part of the park. There is a boat launch accessible from inside the campground.

Dump station has 2 lanes which was nice when checking out. Fresh water fill up was also located near the dump station.

    Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA Holiday

    Happy Camping

Relax, breath, and camp. Perfect spot.

This Campground is quiet, full of fun, for families or older people. Beautiful area.
Many pull through lots, with patios. 50. 30. Full hookup, (sewer and Electric) back in, pull through, tent sites, cabins, teepees. Swimming pool, private bathrooms and showers. Fishing lake, swimming lake, trails. Children play areas. Basketball, bad mitten/volleyball, Dog wash, dog parks (2), private fenced dog sites. (2)- pull through site. Golf cart rentals, and seasonal sites that are being updated, but all are decorated nicely, and kept up.
KOA is revamping some of this campground. Work in progress, but awesome stay.

Jamestown Campground — Pymatuning State Park

    Labor Day weekend

Campground was clean and well maintained. Only issue we ran into was that the fire pit was not cleaned out after the last folks. It wasn’t a huge deal but there we had quite a bit of debris and wet ash to deal with. The wash houses scattered throughout are new and very clean. The one across from our site had 4 private bathrooms with a toilet and shower. Very well patrolled and tons of stuff to do within biking/running/driving distance.

    Punderson State Park Campground

Nice camp but services need updated

Nice park, facilities seem clean, my only issues are with the electric hook up not being at least 30 amp for a travel trailer and the sanitation/dump only has one hose for black tank flush and other cleaning necessary for the two stations also bring a water hose with you if you are planning on running water for your fresh tank

What campers like

Private tent sites: West Branch State Park Campground offers secluded tent areas with lake access. "West Branch has private, spacious, shady sites. We can launch our kayaks right from our campsite," notes one camper who appreciates the direct water access from their site.

Lakeside camping options: Waterfront sites at West Branch provide direct shore access for boats and kayaks. "Great site! Shades lots of space semi private area. Right off the water with area to tie boat for easy water access," reports a camper who valued the convenience.

Clean shower facilities: Kenisee's Grand River Campground maintains well-kept bathroom facilities appreciated by visitors. "Many amenities and very clean bathrooms and showers," states a long-term seasonal camper who has returned for multiple years.

Winter glamping in Eastlake, Ohio area: Several campgrounds offer cold-weather accommodations beyond traditional camping season. "Even with the colder weather it was nice and cozy," describes a visitor who appreciated the heating systems that maintain comfort during Ohio's colder months.

What you should know

Site leveling challenges: Prepare for potentially uneven terrain at Punderson State Park Campground. "The lots are not even close to level. You will need a lot of blocks to get close to level. Saw one RV with auto levelers with his tire about foot off the ground," warns a camper describing RV setup difficulties.

Campground water quality varies: Water sources differ significantly between campgrounds and even within the same park. Some locations have untreated well water with mineral content that affects taste and use. Visitors should check water availability when booking sites.

Reservation requirements: Popular sites book quickly, especially during summer months and weekends. "Make reservations! (6 months in advance). Waterside sites fill up quickly!" advises a frequent visitor to West Branch State Park.

Seasonal closures: Many campgrounds operate on limited schedules from May through October. "Season: May 1 to October 15" is noted for both Kenisee's Grand River Campground and Streetsboro KOA, making winter glamping options in Eastlake, Ohio more limited.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly farm experiences: The Farm at Grand River offers unique animal interactions beyond standard camping. "My 6 year old daughter lived her farm animal dream life for a week! The hosts were so accommodating. My daughter loved the free movie nights under stars, running wild with the goats, and the play grounds and play houses kept her busy for hours!" shares an enthusiastic parent.

Tent site selection for privacy: For families seeking quieter camping experiences, evaluate site placement carefully. "I had the furthest lakeside tent from the office. was a beautiful site but the water treatment facility had a loud hum all night, even though they said it was quiet," notes a Punderson visitor highlighting potential noise issues.

Swimming options: Woodside Lake Park provides water recreation specifically designed for children. "The swimming pond has inflatables and boat rentals. There's good fishing, and typically lots of activities," explains a repeat visitor who brings family multiple times yearly.

Winter family activities: Several campgrounds near Eastlake offer cold-weather glamping with indoor amenities when temperatures drop. Sites with heated facilities provide comfort during shoulder seasons when outdoor activities may be limited by weather.

Tips from RVers

Hookup limitations: At Punderson State Park, electrical service presents challenges for larger rigs. "Very few full hookups. Rest of the sites only have 15-20 amp service," cautions an RVer, suggesting modifications or power management for equipment requiring standard 30-50 amp service.

Site selection for big rigs: Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA accommodates larger vehicles with dedicated pull-through sites. "The site was level and easy to hook up to," reports a traveler who made an overnight stop, appreciating the straightforward setup process.

Dump station access: Several campgrounds provide sanitary dump facilities even when full hookups aren't available at all sites. This allows travelers with self-contained systems to manage longer stays without repositioning their RV.

Gate access procedures: Some campgrounds implement security measures requiring codes for entry. "Gated entry with provided code after payment given. We arrived after dark and had a little trouble finding our spot," shares a Kenisee's camper who recommends obtaining all access information before arrival, especially for late check-ins.
