Best Cabin Camping near Eastlake, OH

Several cabin rentals are available within state parks and private campgrounds near Eastlake, Ohio. West Branch State Park Campground offers cabins with lake access, while Headwaters Park provides rustic cabin options including an open lean-to with a stone fireplace. "The Park Model Cabin was sort of a half trailer with a full bathroom and full kitchen," noted a visitor about Roundup Lake RV Resort, though they mentioned the bed was uncomfortable. KOA locations in the area feature various cabin styles with amenities like picnic tables, fire rings, and proximity to recreational facilities.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA Holiday provides cabins alongside other accommodations like teepees, with access to swimming pools, fishing lakes, and trails. Penitentiary Glen Reservation offers a more primitive cabin experience where visitors noted, "plenty of fire wood provided and a short distance away from the gorge to walk." On-site camp stores at locations like Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA provide essentials including firewood, ice, and basic grocery items. Several campgrounds feature wash basins near bathroom facilities for cleaning dishes. Mosquito Lake State Park and West Branch State Park both maintain clean shower facilities near their cabin areas for guests without private bathrooms.

    West Branch State Park Campground

Well kept campground with access to beach and dock

Each campsite in on a leveled cement pad and comes with a fire ring a picnic table. There is plenty of room around your site and you don't feel crowded. Most sites offer nice tree coverage for shade. The restrooms and showers are very clean and well taken care of. There is also a laundry facility and sink outside each one for washing dishes and water fountains throughout the park. There is a nice beachfront for swimming and then a dock that be reached from outside the park. A beautiful lake for kayaking or boating. The store has most camping needs in it and once a week they host an ice cream social. Has a very nice playground and a sand volleyball court. There are some hiking trails, but nothing extensive.

    Roundup Lake RV Resort

Great Lively Place with lots of Amenities

Starting off, everyone from the employees to the other campers were super friendly! My boyfriend and I rented The Park Model Cabin which was sort of a half trailer with a full bathroom and full kitchen. The bed was the only detractor of our trip, as it was mostly springs. We brought our air mattress in for the second night and slept much better. The themed weekends throughout the season are fun and festive and there are a lot of activities to do and participate!

Sun Retreats Geneva on the Lake

It's Easy to Love this Campground

As newbies to all things RV, we needed a place in Ohio to break in our new travel trailer. Indian Creek is family and pet friendly with all the amenities and even a great lookout spot across the street where you can take in a Lake Erie sunset. We loved the clean bathrooms and appreciated the staff's effort to maintain services while encouraging social distancing. All of their COVID-19 policies were well spelled out online and in signage across the resort so that you knew what to expect. All of the staff wore masks and bathrooms were cleaned often. Some of their usual events and programs were unavailable but they offered craft kits for children to pick up and do at their own campsite in lieu of the usual program. We enjoyed their beautiful put-put course and ice cream stand. They did not allow outside visitors in the resort. The only thing that threw us off was that the bathhouses were closed at night and we didn't know that until we tried to use them. The resort is expanding and adding new sites. They are planting lots of trees (it looked like one at each site) so the resort should become more park-like and less parking lot as they grow. We really liked the back-in sites with water and electric hookups because they were larger and more private and wooded. The fire ring was so easy to cook on that now I'm spoiled! The camp store/gas station was convenient and well stocked with camping supplies. Golf carts are available to rent if you need them to navigate this huge park. We rode our bikes instead. There is a township park just down the road towards Geneva-on-the-Lake proper that we used to spend some leisure and exercise time near the lake. We look forward to visiting this RV resort again in the future!

    West Branch State Park Campground

    Wooded Waterside Sites

Make reservations! (6 months in advance).  Waterside sites fill up quickly! Check in is very easy as you pass the camp store on your way in. All campsites have a fire ring and picnic table.  West Branch has private, spacious, shady sites. We can launch our kayaks right from our campsite. The shower house and bathrooms are large and clean. There is even a book exchange shelf at the shower house in case of rainy days. The park office loans games and sports equipment to campers. Washers and dryers are also at the shower house. There is an outside sink to wash up dishes. Bring your boat or kayak. There are many inlets to explore or fish. There is a small beach at the campground but a larger one on the other side of the lake. There is a boat launch at the campground.  There are playgrounds for the children. An ice cream social is held on Saturday evenings that my children always love to attend. There is a newer dog park near the intersection of Rock Spring  and Esworthy roads. There are many scenic hiking trails at West Branch. Bridal trails are located on Esworthy Rd. West Branch is our favorite campground and we make sure to visit every year.

Jamestown Campground — Pymatuning State Park

great spot for direct kayak/canoe put in.

We stayed in site 218. this spot is in the smaller ( less crowded) part of Jamestown campground in Pymatuning SP. it is right on the water and has an easy access area for shore fishing and entering a kayak or canoe or some other water device. the site sits on a little bay and the otherside (more crowded) of the campground is across the water. the water is a little murky/ grassy but still good entry area. the campsite was spacious for a pa state park. the site is between the lake and the road. sites 212-222 look to be on the water with boat access, but 218 has the easiest entry. 220’s picnic Bench and fire pit sit next to the water with great views, but there is little shade. 218 had a great shady spot were you can hang 3 hammocks. there is no electricity at these sites and pretty much tent only. lots of tent space. the fire ring was decent but we moved it as it was right underneath a burnt tree. 218 was ADA accessible with a nice picnic table. restrooms were fairly close. clean... outdated, but clean.

Jamestown Campground — Pymatuning State Park

    Another trip to Jamestown Campground

My family has visited Pymatuning park many times now and try have used a variety of spots at Jamestown campground. It is large, offering multiple options for campsite types. It’s a standard PA state park campground offering bathrooms (bathrooms are older, but are being renovated July-August 2021) showers, fire ring, picnic table, etc. Campsites J-106 thru J-116 are well shaded, but are alongside route 322 which maintains consistent traffic at all hours. If the noise is not an issue, this run of tent sites are well spaced, and offer easy access to the facilities. To be away from the road (and nearer to the lake) sites J-120 thru J-128 are closer together but can be quieter (depending on your neighbors…)

The beach area is clean, and raked often. It has a playground and volleyball court. On Friday’s they have a family movie night at the amphitheater. Most Saturdays in the summer they offer crafts and activities for kids at the beach.

The surrounding area also has plenty of activities to offer: Local restaurants, ice cream, hiking, kayaking/boating, fishing, etc.

    Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

    Great State Park Campground

We just got back from our first trip to Mosquito Lake State Park Campground. All in all, it was a great experience.

We stayed in site 67, which is a waterfront site, with electric. The water is about 25 yards from the pad, but is visible from the entire site. The site was spacious, but not as private as some of the others. There is some woods between this site and the sites on either side, but other sites are visible. The fire pits and picnic tables were staggered, so it created some distance to make it feel more private.

The campground as a whole, was very quiet. We stayed from Wednesday to Friday. The group next to us seemed a little rowdy when we first pulled in, but by 10:00 there was no noise anywhere near us.

Most sites seemed pretty level from side to side, but where we were, several had a slope from front to back. Away from the waterfront, most sites looked pretty level. The amount of space between sites varied from site to site. Some sites had woods on both sides, while others were pretty open. Some had nice large grassy areas, others were much smaller. Sites from 214-224 are in a cul de sac and are water front, but they were pretty close together with very little privacy between sites, if any. They are very close to the water though.

There are bathrooms and water scatter about, but from what I saw there was only 1 shower house.

Wal-mart and other shopping and restaurants were about 3 miles away. Park was easy to get to, only one turn for us off the highway. Lake was great for kayaking and paddleboarding. Very nice dog park in a different part of the park. There is a boat launch accessible from inside the campground.

Dump station has 2 lanes which was nice when checking out. Fresh water fill up was also located near the dump station.

    Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™- Akron/Canton

    Cabins could be better

The bunk beds have very thin rv style bunk bed mattresses. And the master bed mattress was a weak memory foam. Needs to invest in better mattresses.

    KOA Lake Milton Berlin Lake

    Cabin

Last August rented Cabin. It was beautiful and very clean. The owners were great and very helpful. !! Cabins are a little high in price. No WiFi,. KOA should lower the prices due to that. Guide to Eastlake

Camping cabins near Eastlake, Ohio range from rustic lean-tos to fully furnished park model units. Located in northeast Ohio along Lake Erie's southern shore, the area experiences four distinct seasons with summer temperatures averaging 75-85°F, making May through September the prime rental period. Winter cabin options remain available with heaters at select locations for those prepared for temperatures that regularly drop below freezing.

What to do

Lake activities at West Branch State Park: The 2,650-acre lake offers excellent kayaking and fishing opportunities. West Branch State Park Campground maintains clean individual showers and waterfront sites where "we can launch our kayaks right from our campsite," according to Alisa G. The lake has "many inlets to explore or fish" and remains "so smooth and clear" for paddling.

Hiking trails near cabins: Most parks maintain trail systems accessible directly from cabin areas. At Penitentiary Glen Reservation Campsite, campers enjoy proximity to natural features as "the second night had lots of coyotes around, which is cool but can be dangerous if not careful of course," notes Ky G. The reservation offers secluded forest trails where, as Jillian E. describes, "its like you have the forest to yourselves out here."

Seasonal events at KOA campgrounds: Throughout summer and fall, Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA Holiday hosts themed weekends with scheduled activities. The campground features "Friday night bingo, bands, fishing tournament for kids, duck race, Christmas in July and many other activities," according to Kent R. at a nearby KOA property. Seasonal campers particularly enjoy these recurring events.

What campers like

Lakefront cabin locations: Water-view cabins remain highly sought after in the region. At West Branch State Park Campground, "waterside sites fill up quickly" and should be reserved "6 months in advance," advises Alisa G. Some visitors appreciate that certain sites offer "right off the water with area to tie boat for easy water access."

Clean facilities: Cabin guests frequently comment on bathroom cleanliness. Joe I. notes at West Branch that "bathrooms were clean separate showers verizon works well here." Similarly, Roundup Lake RV Resort maintains good shower facilities, though some guests recommend bringing alternative sleeping arrangements as "The bed was the only detractor of our trip, as it was mostly springs. We brought our air mattress in for the second night and slept much better."

Pet-friendly options: Several cabin rental locations welcome pets. At Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA, they offer "a dog park" on site, making it "a bonus... we camped right next to it. perfect!" according to Christy D. Some properties even provide specialized pet facilities, with one reviewer noting "Dog wash, dog parks (2), private fenced dog sites" at a nearby KOA.

What you should know

Reservation timing: High demand for cabins requires advance planning. "Make reservations! (6 months in advance). Waterside sites fill up quickly!" advises a West Branch visitor. Most cabin rentals maintain online reservation systems that lock out within 7 days of arrival date, requiring phone calls for last-minute bookings.

Site selection considerations: Terrain varies significantly between properties and even within the same campground. At West Branch, Andrea F. warns that some sites labeled "slight slope" may actually require significant leveling: "we had to lower the front 15 inches. The jack was down as low as it would go and we were still off by 1.5 inches."

Walking distance from parking: Some rustic cabins require walking to access. Headwaters Park has cabins where "the walk to the site was a bit more of a haul than expected," notes Jillian E., adding "It was just myself, kids, and pup. So it made setting up camp a bit more work."

Tips for camping with families

Family-oriented amenities: Several campgrounds offer designated children's areas. West Branch provides "a staffed store with basic supplies" and "a step stool for kids to be able to reach the sinks." They also feature "a nice playground with toy stocked sandpit, volleyball net" and "loans games and sports equipment to campers."

Structured activities: Seasonal programming keeps children engaged. At Roundup Lake RV Resort, campers enjoy "themed weekends throughout the season are fun and festive and there are a lot of activities to do and participate!" according to Evangelyne D. The campground's lake area includes "inflatables as well as enough room for self-propelled water crafts."

Swimming options: Most family-friendly cabin locations include water access. Mosquito Lake State Park Campground offers swimming areas where "Beach was great and there an epic playground for kids. If your kids are 8 and under they'll love the nature playground and nets provided to catch critters," notes Joe F.

Tips from RVers

Full hookup cabin alternatives: For those seeking more amenities than basic cabins provide, several locations offer deluxe options. At Sun Retreats Geneva on the Lake, they maintain "nicely done cabins" alongside RV sites with "good FHUs" (full hookups) according to reviewers. The property includes "two pools, fishing pond, put-put golf, restaurant, store" and sits "minutes from Geneva on the lake."

Seasonal considerations: Weather impacts cabin comfort significantly. While basic cabins work well in summer, spring and fall visitors should check heating options. At primitive cabins, campers report that "Even with the colder weather it was nice and cozy. Plenty of fire wood provided" at some locations, though amenities vary widely between properties.
