Best RV Parks & Resorts near Chardon, OH

Several RV parks operate within 30 miles of Chardon, Ohio, providing seasonal accommodations for motorhomes and travel trailers. Sun Retreats Geneva on the Lake offers full hookup sites with 50-amp service from May through mid-October, with gravel pads that accommodate big rigs. Thousand Trails Kenisee Lake in Jefferson features both back-in and pull-through sites with 30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections during their April to October season. Kool Lakes Family RV Park in Parkman provides similar full hookup options with a mid-May to mid-October operating window. Punderson State Park Campground stands out as a year-round option with electric sites, though one reviewer noted, "The lots are not even close to level. You will need a lot of blocks to get close to level." Most RV sites throughout the region feature fire rings and picnic tables, with varying degrees of shade and privacy between neighboring units.

Seasonal availability presents a key consideration for RV camping in this region, as most parks close from late October through April. The exception is Punderson State Park, which remains open year-round but offers limited amenities during winter months. Cell service varies significantly between locations, with stronger coverage at parks closer to Interstate 90. Dump stations are available at most parks, though Love's RV Hookup in Madison provides just seven sites specifically designed for overnight travelers needing quick access to utilities. Pet policies generally allow dogs throughout the area's RV parks, but with standard leash requirements. Advance reservations become essential during summer weekends and fall foliage season, particularly for lakefront sites at Geneva State Park and Pymatuning State Park, where RV campers can enjoy water views from their sites.

    Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA Holiday

    Happy Camping

Relax, breath, and camp. Perfect spot.

This Campground is quiet, full of fun, for families or older people. Beautiful area.
Many pull through lots, with patios. 50. 30. Full hookup, (sewer and Electric) back in, pull through, tent sites, cabins, teepees. Swimming pool, private bathrooms and showers. Fishing lake, swimming lake, trails. Children play areas. Basketball, bad mitten/volleyball, Dog wash, dog parks (2), private fenced dog sites. (2)- pull through site. Golf cart rentals, and seasonal sites that are being updated, but all are decorated nicely, and kept up.
KOA is revamping some of this campground. Work in progress, but awesome stay.

    Thousand Trails Kenisee Lake

Great spacious park with 2 lakes!

Kenisee Lake RV Resort Thousand Trails in Jefferson, Ohio is a another great Thousand Trails park! This park is very large and has a park-like setting with 2 lakes. There is fishing on the lakes and the campground has rowboats available to use. They have all the amenities a family could want such as swimming pool, playground, mini-golf, and more! The staff is friendly and very accommodating. Kenisee Lake has 30 and 50 amp FHU back-in and pull-through sites. The only downside is the internet which is lacking in this area. We have really enjoyed our stay here and will be returning! 👍🏻😬

Sun Retreats Geneva on the Lake

It's Easy to Love this Campground

As newbies to all things RV, we needed a place in Ohio to break in our new travel trailer. Indian Creek is family and pet friendly with all the amenities and even a great lookout spot across the street where you can take in a Lake Erie sunset. We loved the clean bathrooms and appreciated the staff's effort to maintain services while encouraging social distancing. All of their COVID-19 policies were well spelled out online and in signage across the resort so that you knew what to expect. All of the staff wore masks and bathrooms were cleaned often. Some of their usual events and programs were unavailable but they offered craft kits for children to pick up and do at their own campsite in lieu of the usual program. We enjoyed their beautiful put-put course and ice cream stand. They did not allow outside visitors in the resort. The only thing that threw us off was that the bathhouses were closed at night and we didn't know that until we tried to use them. The resort is expanding and adding new sites. They are planting lots of trees (it looked like one at each site) so the resort should become more park-like and less parking lot as they grow. We really liked the back-in sites with water and electric hookups because they were larger and more private and wooded. The fire ring was so easy to cook on that now I'm spoiled! The camp store/gas station was convenient and well stocked with camping supplies. Golf carts are available to rent if you need them to navigate this huge park. We rode our bikes instead. There is a township park just down the road towards Geneva-on-the-Lake proper that we used to spend some leisure and exercise time near the lake. We look forward to visiting this RV resort again in the future!

    Outstanding site in great campground

Stayed on a premium patio site and loved it. The campground and staff were awesome. Level site, great hook ups, awesome WiFi and cable. Clean facilities, 3 lakes (one with a fishing pier), 2 dog parks, and super friendly staff. 30 min to Cleveland. Walmart, gas stations and restaurants within 5 miles. Just off Ohio Turnpike, but can't hear it. Definitely recommend this KOA

    West Branch State Park Campground

    Love the Lake!

This state park has a lot to offer with the highlight being a large 2,650-lake that appeals to fishermen, boaters, and swimmers. The park is over 5,000 acres and not only has camping but hiking, volleyball, fishing, playgrounds, picnicking, hunting, horseback riding, and more.

The campground is divided into three loops with nearly 200 sites. Campsites include those with full hook-up (50 amp), electric only (50 amp), and some with no electric. This campground is suitable for everything from large RVs to tents. Sites and roads are paved and each site has a picnic table and fire pit. In loops where there is no water directly at the site, water spigots are scattered throughout. The restroom/bathhouses in our loop were really nice, modern, clean, and had laundry facilities which is a real plus at a state park campground. Campsites can be reserved online up to six months in advance. Since we were here in April, the campground was practically empty and getting a site was no problem. But, if you want one of the 29 full hook-up sites in the summer, you better book early.

We really enjoyed the hiking trails and being able to leave our campsite and be right on the trails. There are approximately 12 miles of hiking trails and an additional 20 miles that are open to horses and snowmobiles. (Be aware that hunting is permitted in certain areas.)

The park is about 15 miles from Cuyahoga Valley National Park which is a fantastic place to explore with a lot going on for the whole family! If you are interested in football, the National Football Hall of Fame is just down the road in Canton. The town of Hudson has a pretty, historic downtown with a fun old soda fountain.

We would definitely stay at this campground again. It was a perfect place to stay while visiting family in the nearby town of Hudson. Loved having a paved site with full hook-ups especially since there was a lot of rain while we were there. The lake was perfect for kayaking and had we been able to stay longer we would have spent more time on the water.

    Geneva State Park Campground

    Monster Campsites!

This park has huge campsites ! The pads are paved and they left a section of trees/woods behind each site to provide some privacy between neighbors. The bathrooms are very clean and the staff were helpful and friendly. The park is directly across the road from the paved bike trail which leads to the beach, marina, lodge and strip area. The trail is dog friendly but the beach is not. The campground is also pet friendly.

    Great stop for one night

Great campground on the smaller side, so not too much traffic driving around. Our site was gravel and fairly unlevel. Did our best to level it out but still have water collecting to the left. We lucked out and got a pull through last minute.

Water pressure was low. ATT cell coverage was full. Lots of shade so couldn’t use our Starlink internet but the campground internet was great. Even had video camera meetings on it while working in the morning.

Worth noting we were having some rig problems (slide out stuck in) and after calling four local places not one of them returned our calls. Only stayed the one night because we need to move on to get this fixed.

    Shenango Campground

    Huge COE

After getting off I80, our RV GPS wanted to take us on a wonky route, so we followed Waze and the campground’s(CG) web instructions that took us across the causeway on N. Hermitage Rd, then a right turn off on Birchwood Rd, which led us to take a left turn back across N. Hermitage Rd to get back to the Shenango Rec Area turn. Once we got to the CG, check in was quick and very easy. Just happened, our next door neighbor/camp host checked us in and told us we could get water off their site so we proceeded straight to site 199 that’s a back in with electric(50/30 AMP) only plus one of the better spaced sites in the CG. We had to maneuver a couple of times to get into the 90 degree site but the road was wide with no obstacles to prevent swinging into the site. We quickly found out that our 50 AMP connection had issues and after reporting it, a maintenance crew came within 20 minutes and fixed a bad breaker. We got 3 bars on Verizon and a handful of OTA channels. Due to the amount of mature trees, satellite would be iffy depending on your site. There are no FHU sites(camp host sites have electric& water). Electric sites are centrally grouped within the loops and spaced closer together than most COEs. The majority of the sites within this CG are dry camping and they too are fairly close together. The sites right on the lake were all dry camping. With all the dry camping sites in this CG, its nice that they allow generator use during non quiet hours. Quiet hours here are 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. There are water spigots periodically located within the loops and the CG map identifies where they are. There’s also a two-lane dump station located near the entrance but there is no potable water. There are signs stating no alcohol in the park, but people were openly drinking. We also noted that the contractors who clean the restroom/shower facilities start early in the morning and close the facility while cleaning, which was inconvenient for the dry campers just waking up. If we were to stay at this CG again, we’d come during the week and get a dry camping site on the water.

    Punderson State Park Campground

    Excellent Park & Campground!

We have just returned from our first stay at Punderson and have no complaints! Sites are smallish, but clean, mostly level and well kept, as is the camping area in general. There are NO pull-through sites I am aware of. Had a picnic with nearby family at one of the pavilions… again, neat and clean and well taken care of. Very quiet at night, which is something we look for. Firewood for sale on site was a bit pricey, but that’s to be expected. Only complaint was lack of strong WIFI, but we have our own uplink. Will definitely return!

Guide to Chardon

RV camping near Chardon, Ohio offers both seasonal and year-round options within a 30-mile radius of this Geauga County community. The region experiences four distinct seasons with summer temperatures averaging 70-85°F and winter temperatures often dropping below freezing with lake effect snow common from November through March. Most campgrounds in the area sit at elevations between 800-1,200 feet, with terrain ranging from flat lakefront properties to more rolling, wooded sites inland.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Indian Creek RV Resort includes a stocked fishing pond where families can spend hours catching small fish. "Our kids age 4 and 8 fished from sun up Saturday to about noon and then sporadically after that throughout the day. That night we hunted large bull frogs. All catch and release," reports one visitor who enjoyed the water activities.

Disc golf courses: Punderson State Park Campground offers an 18-hole disc golf course alongside its other recreational facilities. As one camper noted, "Opportunities for disc golf, archery range, canoeing/kayaking/row boats, swimming (no lifeguard) and golf" make this a versatile destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

Hiking trails: The Nelson-Kennedy Ledges State Park features unique rock formations and various difficulty levels of hiking paths. A visitor mentioned, "There are numerous trails for different skill levels and tons of caves to explore. Also the view at the end is fantastic and is a great place to relax and read for the day."

What campers like

Spacious sites: Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground receives praise for its generous camping areas. A reviewer commented, "Sites are large and the area is peaceful. The area is well kept and owners are very nice," highlighting the importance of having adequate space between campsites.

Swimming options: Many campgrounds in the area feature swimming areas that provide relief during hot summer months. At Roundup Lake RV Resort, campers enjoy "a sizable lake which boasts inflatables as well as enough room for self-propelled water crafts (i.e. kayaks, paddleboards, etc)."

Community atmosphere: Seasonal campers appreciate the social aspects at certain RV parks in Chardon, Ohio. One long-term visitor at Kenisee's Grand River Campground shared, "It's a great place with a lot of events and entertainment for family's. Multiple fishing ponds, Friday night bingo, bands, fishing tournament for kids, duck race, Christmas in July and many other activities."

What you should know

Site levelness varies significantly: At Punderson State Park, campers warn about challenging terrain. "The lots are not even close to level. You will need a lot of blocks to get close to level. Saw one RV with auto levelers with his tire about foot off the ground," one reviewer cautioned about the sloped camping pads.

Swimming access limitations: While many campgrounds have swimming areas, availability depends on timing. A Roundup Lake visitor noted, "We arrived mid-September 2020, so Covid has had its impact and it's past Labor Day so pools/lakes are likely closed to swimming most years anyway."

Tent site locations: For those not in RVs, tent placement can present challenges. One camper mentioned about Punderson State Park, "Nice shaded tent sites but you'll have to haul your stuff uphill & then it's not too private," indicating the physical effort required at some locations.

Tips for camping with families

Activity planning: The Farm at Grand River offers unique experiences for children with farm animals and outdoor entertainment. A parent shared, "My 6 year old daughter lived her farm animal dream life for a week! My daughter loved the free movie nights under stars, running wild with the goats, and the playgrounds and play houses kept her busy for hours!"

Bathroom considerations: When camping with kids, bathroom quality matters. At Chestnut Ridge, campers appreciate that "bathrooms were clean if a bit unique with a rope and pulley system of water delivery to the shower head," showing creative solutions for maintaining facilities.

Fishing supplies: Parents should pack extra fishing gear when visiting lakes and ponds. One family at Kool Lakes Family RV Park advised, "I had 12 crawlers that the kids cut in thirds and ran out very quickly. Researching where to find live bait was too far so they used long fake worms pink/purple, watermelon, or some spinner baits."

Tips from RVers

Cellular connectivity: Mobile workers should consider signal strength when choosing RV parks near Chardon. At Thousand Trails Kenisee Lake, a remote worker reported, "Kenisee Lake RV Campground is a wonderful place to work from remotely if you have an external antenna to cellular internet."

Site selection strategy: When booking at RV parks around Chardon, Ohio, research specific site attributes. A camper at Indian Creek RV Resort suggested, "We really liked the back-in sites with water and electric hookups because they were larger and more private and wooded."

Seasonal considerations: The local camping season affects amenities. A visitor to Indian Creek RV Resort explained, "Some of their usual events and programs were unavailable but they offered craft kits for children to pick up and do at their own campsite in lieu of the usual program," showing how parks adapt during different times or circumstances.
