Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Bremen, OH

Hocking Hills State Park Campground allows pets throughout its diverse accommodations including tent sites, RV spaces with full hookups, and pet-friendly cabins. Nearby Big Sycamore Family Campground maintains clean sites that accommodate dogs with accessible water hookups and electric service at most locations. The campgrounds enforce standard leash policies requiring dogs to remain secured at all times outside vehicles or tents. Both locations offer ample space for walking pets along designated pathways with waste stations positioned throughout the grounds. Restroom facilities remain consistently clean even during peak summer months when the region sees increased visitors with their furry companions. Several campgrounds near Bremen feature fire rings and picnic tables positioned to allow comfortable outdoor time with pets while maintaining appropriate distance from neighboring sites.

Trails connecting to Hocking Hills State Park provide numerous dog-friendly hiking opportunities with water access points where pets can cool off during summer months. Hocking Hills Camping & Canoe allows dogs to enjoy riverside camping with easy water access, though the steep riverbank at some sites makes water entry challenging for pets. Primitive camping options throughout the region typically offer more spacious sites for pets to enjoy without crowding neighboring campers. Lake Logan's shoreline provides additional water recreation opportunities for dogs within a short drive of most Bremen-area campgrounds. Local camp stores stock basic pet supplies including leashes and waste bags, though campers should pack specialty foods or medications as rural options remain limited. Weather considerations include preparing for rapid temperature changes that can affect pets, particularly during spring and fall camping seasons.

    Scioto-Grove Metro Park

Can only stay there on Fridays and Saturdays

Only weekend stays and it ends in wintertime. I’m sure it’s pretty and all, but it’s hard to find legit, free dispersed camping in Ohio! Oh well, rest stops always work for car camping.

    Alum Creek State Park Campground

    The dog’s favorite campground!

This was the only park we’ve gone to this uear with both a large dog park AND a fenced in dog beach! Folks were friendly at the dog park with bunches of chairs set around like a conversation pit. Lots of water and dog tennis balls were available.

The dog beach was fenced so your dog can be off leash. There is even a fenced in area out in the water to keep the pooches from swimming across the Lake chasing geese.

The campground itself was quite nice and spacious. Some of the most private camping sites I’ve seen in Ohio. Shower facilities we a bit above average mad seemed to be looked after at least once a day (we were there in the off season).

IMHO, one of the nicest campgrounds in the state.

    Cross Creek Camping Resort

    Very nice resort

We stayed two nights here on our tour of Ohio. After staying in state parks, the narrow sites are close with no privacy. Our pull through site was on the (inner) road, so lots of golf carts, cars and campers passing by. All pull through sites are on the road side. The site is not level and our leveling system has the front wheels off the ground. Many full time units here beautiful patios and decor. Staff is nice and friendly. Trash pickup isn’t offered and the walk to dumpster would be excessive for unfit or handicapped. We would stay again. Amenities are clean, as described and dog Park is immaculate but small.

    Alum Creek State Park Campground

Beautiful State Park close to Columbus Ohio

Alum Creek State Park is a beautiful park and great campground just outside the hustle and bustle of downtown Columbus and minutes away from attractions such as the Columbus Zoo.

The campground has good sized sites and is wooded throughout with clean bath houses, well maintained roads, and easy access for big rigs.

There is also a very nice dog park in the park including dog beaches with lake access for your pups to swim.

We love this campground and the beautiful lake and appreciate the easy access to local attractions, shopping, and more.

    Alum Creek State Park Campground

    Alum Creek State Park Campground

great state park campground. There are some full hook ups but mostly just electric. They have pancake breakfast on Saturday mornings through summer and doughnuts on Sunday. Helpful camphost. There is a campground beach and boat launch. Lost of hiking paths in the campground and in the park area. A great dog park with lake entrance for the pups. tmThere is also some mountain bike trails. Plenty to do for everyone.

    Alum Creek State Park Campground

Would be 5 star except for this

Alum Creek is just beautiful, nice sites, most of them are at least partially shaded, lots of woods, hiking trails, the lake, it is what I think of when I think of State Park campground camping in Ohio. There are a couple problems. 1. Only ONE little dump station. This is a big campground, so if you're leaving Sunday, you better get up at the crack of dawn to get to the station, otherwise be prepared to wait in a long long line of RV's. We by-passed the long line and stopped at a different State Park campground on the way home and paid 10.00 to use their dump station. 2. They never answer their phone at the campground office. I mean NEVER. If you have a question you will just have to deal with the reserveamerica people who really know nothing other than what they read on the campground website. So basically you know as much as they do. It's maddening. We will go back, but it's a 2 hour drive so it won't be anytime soon.

    Deer Creek State Park Campground

One you will always return to

Very clean, well maintained. A lot of nearby activity, private and open sites, lake, beach, trails, marina, bikes, putt putt, dog park, playground, laundry, water close, electric at sites, many "comfort stations" "wash houses" so not far from one.

    Alum Creek State Park Campground

Beautiful State Park with extra perks for the Dogs

In addition to having a pretty lake, lovely campsites that are spread apart nicely, clean facilities, lots of shade, boat ramps, etc.. this park is unique for it's Dog Park facility.

2 large fenced in field areas. One for small dogs, and one for large. There is enough room for several games of dog frisbee to happen at once. Then, there are 2 large fenced in areas for lake access. Balls, dog doo bags, trash bins.. all there. Lots of shade, water fountains, and plenty of running room. I can't rave about this park enough!

The only downside is there is poison ivy lacing the trail from the campsite down to the water, and the Dog Park portion is about 2 miles from the campsites.

Guide to Bremen

Campgrounds near Bremen, Ohio provide access to state parks and riverside locations within the Hocking Hills region. The terrain features moderate to steep elevations with most sites situated at 800-1,000 feet above sea level. Rivers and lakes characterize the landscape with water access points typically requiring a 5-15 minute walk from campsites, though some riverside sites offer direct water entry.

What to do

Kayaking on Lake Logan: Campbell Cove Camping offers access to Lake Logan with both rental equipment and launch points. "Kayaking on the lake is amazing and hiking is abundant. Beautiful sunset view," notes Ann H., highlighting the water recreation opportunities within short driving distance from most Bremen-area campgrounds.

Night canoeing with torches: Hocking Hills Canoe Livery offers a unique torchlight canoe trip during summer evenings. "The basic set-up is a standard canoe with a tiki torch in the back of it. You set off at 7:30-8pm... Best sight was looking ahead or behind and seeing all the lights. A girl in my group said it looked like Harry Potter," explains Betsy B., describing this distinctive $45 per boat experience.

Hiking off-site trails: Burr Oak State Park contains multiple hiking paths around its lake. "Hiking trails are good... Fairly remote, cell service is dicey but if that is what you are going for, you will be pleased. Beautiful scenery. Fall is a good time to visit," advises Leon H., mentioning why many campers use these trails as day-trip options from Bremen-area sites.

What campers like

Spacious primitive sites: Big Sycamore Family Campground offers larger non-electric sites for those seeking more space. "5 acres with everything we could need... Some sites are full hook up, some sites are electric and water, and some are primitive," reports Amber R., explaining the variety of options within a small, family-oriented property.

Privacy in riverside camping: Hocking Hills Camping & Canoe features secluded riverside sites for campers seeking separation from neighbors. "Sites are big enough and plenty of space from neighbors! Only gave 4 stars because spots are first come first serve," mentions Danielle T., noting why these sites appeal to campers wanting more seclusion.

Family-friendly amenities: Campbell Cove Camping provides dedicated facilities for families with children. "There is a great playground for kids and a swimming hole. The bathrooms are so clean. You can kayak on the lake and they do have rentals," explains Brianna L., detailing why families often select this location for Bremen-area camping trips.

What you should know

Road noise considerations: Hocking River RV Park sites sit near roadways that impact campsite noise levels. "Right on the river, which is interesting, but it's also right alongside State Route 33, so you hear freeway traffic constantly. Trucks and motorcycles woke me up all night, AND there is a train track right across the river," cautions Megan M., alerting potential campers to sound challenges.

Bathhouse conditions vary: Cleanliness and functionality of shower facilities fluctuates between Bremen-area campgrounds. "One shower was scalding hot and the other was cold. The floors were slippery as they didn't have a way to stop the water from going beyond the shower," reports a camper about Campbell Cove facilities, explaining why bringing shower shoes remains recommended.

Site flooding issues: Certain campgrounds experience drainage problems after rainfall. "Decent sites, some retained water days after the rain," notes Joe B. about Big Sycamore Family Campground, highlighting why checking weather forecasts before booking helps avoid potential site problems during wet conditions.

Tips for camping with families

Walking distances: Hocking Hills State Park Campground requires planning for bathroom access when camping with children. "The campsites are so close together, which you think would at least mean the bathrooms were close, but no, they were a serious hike. Not good with kids," advises Jenny K., explaining a common challenge for families with young children.

Kid-friendly camp activities: Buckeye Lake-Columbus East KOA offers structured recreation options. "There is a great playground for kids and a swimming hole... There's a somewhat small swimming area, but it seems to be pretty clean for a pond," shares Kevin C., noting amenities that keep children occupied during non-hiking hours.

Walk-in site preparation: Families should carefully check site descriptions noting access type. "Make sure to pay attention to 'walk-in' sites. It's more like 'hike a half mile with your gear' sites! All in all we had a blast and a good laugh about our trek with all our stuff!!" warns Amanda P., explaining why vehicle access matters when camping with children and gear.

Tips from RVers

Leveling challenges: A.W. Marion State Park Campground requires careful site selection for RVs. "The camper pad was very level and the site was huge. It had a great view of the lake," reports Shannon G. about site #45, highlighting the importance of researching specific site numbers when booking for larger vehicles.

Road conditions: Access roads to some campgrounds present difficulties for larger rigs. "The little road going up to the campground is VERY bumpy. It's not the campground road, it belongs to the Township, so its completely out of their ability to make improvements," explains Vicki H., warning RV owners to approach with caution and reduced speed.

Hookup limitations: Many pet-friendly campgrounds near Bremen offer electric-only sites for RVs. "Only electric and vault toilets are available in the winter. You might scrunch your nose about the vault toilet, but they were kept very clean," notes Shannon G., explaining why RVers should prepare accordingly with full water tanks and empty waste tanks.
