Several campgrounds near Greenwich, Ohio offer unique cabin and yurt camping opportunities. Located in north-central Ohio, this area features rolling countryside and forested terrain with elevations ranging from 900 to 1,100 feet above sea level. The region experiences four distinct seasons, with summer temperatures averaging 70-85°F and winters dropping to 20-35°F.
What to do
Kayaking and canoeing: Mohican Adventures offers seven-mile river trips that take approximately 2-3 hours to complete. "We took advantage of their seven mile canoe trip which was rich with scenery and again, given the time we had chosen to go, we enjoyed much solitude on the river which took about 2.15 hours to traverse in our canoe," shares Jacob W. about Mohican Adventures Campground and Cabins.
Hiking trails: Charles Mill Lake Park features multiple paths where wildlife often appears. "We stayed on the Eaglepoint side. It's opposite the main campground up the mile about .5 mile. The sites are not as modern but have more trees and natural beauty," notes Joseph E. about Charles Mill Lake Park Campground.
Swimming and indoor pools: Many campgrounds offer swimming facilities regardless of weather. "Indoor pool perfect for the super hot summer months. So much for the kids to do!" explains Nicole S. about Mohican Adventures, which keeps its pool and recreation areas open even during off-season periods.
What campers like
Private wooded sites: Some locations offer secluded camping spots away from crowds. "We tent camped and had a private spot in the woods which we loved. The campgrounds covers all the basics," writes Lo H. about Mohican Adventures Campground and Cabins.
Lake access and fishing: Several campgrounds provide direct water access. "Beautiful lake with lakeside sites. Wooden and peaceful," shares Janice C. about Charles Mill Lake Park, which also offers both primitive and developed camping options.
Family entertainment: KOA Campground Shelby provides numerous scheduled activities. "For the kids there are: activities, crafts, playground, jumping balloon, small zipline, lakes, heated swimming pool, ice cream. Everything a kid could want to do," explains Nick W.
What you should know
Campsite selection matters: Not all sites are created equal. "The sites were mostly level but are short & close to each other. Roads are narrow & hilly. Electric went out several times over the weekend," cautions Kathy C. about Charles Mill Lake Park Campground.
Seasonal differences: Some amenities may not be available year-round. "We camped here off season and had the place to ourselves. We had a pull through site which was gravel. The staff is friendly and the indoor pool and shower houses were amazing," notes Renee L. about Mohican Adventures.
Terrain challenges: Mohican State Park Campground offers primitive yurt camping options with varying accessibility. "A short distance from the main campground, the B class campground features first come availability, 'walk up' spots. No level ground to be found, but far fewer neighbors than the A class," explains Jared H.
Tips for camping with families
Water activities: Multiple locations have swimming options for children. "Clean common areas. Nice pool, camp store on site with a nice selection of camp gear. Snack bar with pizza, ice cream etc. Tons of planned activities for the kids," states Kathryn P. about Cleveland/Jellystone Park.
Games and planned events: Weekend activities keep children entertained. "The Messerly Recreation building had some fun things for kids on Saturday and bingo on Saturday night," shares Joseph E. about Charles Mill Lake Park.
Playgrounds and recreation areas: Many campgrounds feature multiple play zones. "Great campground with lots to do! There are back in and pull through RV spots - along with nice shady spots for tent camping. Quite a few playgrounds available and mountain bike trails," notes Kelly L. about Mohican Adventures.
Tips from RVers
Site dimensions: Know your vehicle requirements before booking. "Sites are a decent size in length, but pretty close together. Most look reliably level. Gravel and grass. Not many trees for shade in RV area, but enough to provide some shade," advises Tracey S. about Milan Travel Park.
Pull-through availability: Several campgrounds offer convenient pull-through sites. "Many level pull through sites. We were just passing through so the ability to not have to unhook was important to us," shares Sue B. about Milan Travel Park.
Hookup options: Indian Trail Campground provides full service sites. "Nice campground clean restrooms. Didn't use the showers since we had full hook up. Swimming Pool and trails to ride the golf cart. Activities on the weekends," explains Dawn S.
