Turkey Swamp Park offers glamping options in eco-friendly cabins during its operating season from April through November. The campground features 64 sites across five loops with a centralized bathhouse located in D Loop. All roads and camper pads are dirt surfaces, which can be challenging during rainy weather. Sites are generally level with generous sizing and reasonable spacing for privacy.
What to do
Archery practice: Turkey Swamp Park provides an archery range where visitors can practice their skills. "We go every year. It has everything the outdoorsman could ask for. Bring your bow and shoot at the hay barrels," notes Patrick M.
Water activities: The park features a lake with multiple boating options during summer months. "There are lots of different things to do. Fishing, Tent Camp, Van Camping, Open Field, BBQ, Kayaking, Canoeing. The list goes on," shares Tylen L.
Winter recreation: Allaire State Park offers unique winter glamping experiences with seasonal activities. "Getting a cabin in the winter and going for a snowy hike is wonderful there," writes Patrick M. Another visitor adds, "We found this campground one night when we were in NJ. It ended up snowing that night. The bathrooms were clean and warm."
What campers like
Privacy and space: Camp Glen Gray receives praise for its rustic setting and spacious accommodations. "Great Camp!!! One rustic place with many hiking trails to choose from. Camp also provides trucking of gear weather permitting," notes Jose N.
Beach proximity: Smith Point County Park offers ocean access glamping just steps from the water. "Our 36ft motorhome backed up to a raised balcony overlooking the bay. Less than 100 feet from the front of our site was the beach and the Atlantic Ocean view," shares Patrick C.
Wildlife viewing: Nature encounters add to the glamping experience near Woodmere. "And sweet deer. I watched a momma deer nursing two of her babies. This is paradise," reports a camper at Smith Point County Park.
What you should know
Ticks can be problematic: Be prepared for potential tick encounters at certain parks. "But by the 2nd day I had 3 ticks on me. My dog had one and by the end my husband had 2. That was so crazy because we were just sitting by our camper," warns Laura Y. from Turkey Swamp Park.
Limited bathroom facilities: Some campgrounds have basic amenities. "The campsite falls short in terms of its bathroom facilities. The stall doors are quite small and lack privacy, which can be a discomfort for many guests," notes Bradley B. about Pine Cone Campgrounds.
Weather considerations: Rain can create challenges at certain sites. "As soon as you turn off the main road to the park, all roads are dirt, which was a bit surprising. They were well-maintained and in dry weather, not a problem, but probably not if it was rainy," explains Lee D.
Tips for camping with families
Kid-friendly environment: Mountain Lakes Park offers yurt glamping with family activities. "Mountain Lakes park is a great place to camp within driving distance from NYC. A fun option available at Mountain lakes is to rent a yurt to camp in," shares Ethan K.
Playground access: Multiple parks provide play areas for children. "There are age-appropriate playgrounds both in the campground and by the office," mentions Lee D. about Turkey Swamp Park facilities.
Bug preparation: Pack insect repellent for family comfort. "We went camping with our 2- and 3-year-old kids. We were worried about bugs, but we didn't even use mosquito repellent and didn't get a single bite! The campground was super clean too. It was perfect!" shares Jaewook P.
Tips from RVers
Site selection: For RV glamping near Woodmere, New York, choose sites carefully. "Sites in Loops B-E all have pull-thru driveways. Sites are all level, very generous in size, and reasonably spaced apart for privacy," notes Lee D. about Turkey Swamp Park.
Hookup considerations: Adventure Bound Camping offers various site types, but verify what you're getting. "I reserved and paid-in-full for a premium site which listed 50-amp service and a concrete pad. Nope. Only 30-amp service and no concrete pad," cautions Matt S.
Water access: Bring extra equipment for some sites. "Nice, remote, private. Some sites unlevel. Bring a LONG water hose. Nice lake. Showers and washers and dryers," advises Shawn about Turkey Swamp Park.
