    Letchworth State Park Campground

A little gem with a lot to do

Cabin campers here at letchworth for the past two years. We stumbled on cabin camping at letchworth due to weekends being booked for almost the entire summer for tent spots. the cabins are spacious, with bunk beds, a stove, fridge, and a fire place. i thought they might be close together, yet they were all pretty private, with a fire ring and picnic table. There was a beautiful updated playground, and clean bathrooms. Last summer they had just opened the new nature center with guided hikes, and activities all summer long.

Great for the falls, swimming, hiking, white water rafting, kayaking and so much more!

Four Mile Creek State Park Campground

    Field Camping

It's not all bad! It took a while to find our site in the dark as site markers are small. The sites are decent size, the bathrooms are clean but spiders will hang out. Showers are hot. Sites are available with electric and there is an RV dump station if you have one. There are a lot of RVs at this campground, a large playground, and a field with soccer goals (no net). Niagara Falls is 15 or so miles away, and Buffalo NY is a short drive. The bathroom building has an outdoor sink with heated water, and this is also where the trash bins are.  Firewood is available in front of many nearby homes (a couple of miles, max,and $4-5 a bundle). The fire pits are either low or leaning, so we found a camp stove to be essential. It can get quite windy, we saw a tent buckle and our stakes were pulled up from the wind. It can get loud at night and it doesn't seem as if quiet hours are enforced. I'd stay again but only if a more private campground was unavailable.

    Evangola State Park Campground

    Great campground

We stayed here three nights to ride out a heat wave and really liked it. Sites are electric only, with a dump station available at the entrance and one in the campground loop. There are potable water spigots throughout the campground, where you awkwardly pull over to the side of the road and fill your tank. Sites are pretty much wide open, with zero separation between you and your neighbor. Most are out in direct sun but the ones along the edge have some tree cover and shade.

There are yurts here as well, and a playground, and a huge disc golf course. You can walk to the beach from the campground (dogs aren’t allowed on the beach). The nature center is right in the campground, by the basketball and tennis courts.

Showers were dirty and buggy, but they’re free and you can actually choose your own water temperature. NY State campgrounds require proof of rabies vaccinations for your dogs.

Good cell reception for Verizon, ATT wasn’t great but the cell booster helped. Trash bins, but no recycling. Beautiful sunset on the lake.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Beautiful place

Letchworth is absolutely stunning. The views are beautiful, however the scenic areas are at least a 10 minute drive from the campground. The park is massive.

There is a huge variation in site sizes. We lucked out and got a large site with privacy and an area for the kids to run around, however the site directly across from us was little more than the gravel pad and fire pit. Some of the sites are right on top of each other. Great for group camping, not so much if you want any privacy.

Only two out of the 8 loops (200 and 700 loops) have updated bathrooms (single toilet with handheld showers in half of the bathrooms). The others loops have older facilities with three traditional toilet stalls and two showers.

We loved our site but would’ve preferred to stay in a loop with the updated bath houses as we have younger children and a tent trailer.

All sites have electricity. Some loops are pet friendly, some are pet free. The camp store has a good selection of necessities, albeit expensive for discount brands. The pool is 4-5 miles down the road from the camping area.

    Would absolutely camp here again.

    Niagaras Lazy Lakes Camping Resort

    Clean & Friendly

We have camped here several times. Bathrooms are very clean along with the showers. They are cleaned on a daily basis. Store on site has just the bare amenities. Big clubhouse, 2 heated pools and a pond to fish (catch & release). Sites are big. Pet friendly. Staff are very friendly. 10-15 minutes from Niagara Falls and close to stores. It does have 2 on site laundry facilities but the dryers take a while. Enjoy going there.

    Conesus Lake Campground

Camping with amenities, close to fun

This is your typical Mom and Pop family campground, there are rules to follow but they do not hinder on your experience. They have a well stocked camp store, boat rentals, golf cart rentals, an indoor heated pool, jump pad, playgrounds, a hiking trail and frisbee golf. The bottom portion of the campground has mostly seasonal campers and cabins. You do have to go up a pretty steep hill to get to the 'transient' camping section, but there are many pull through, level, full hook up sites to choose from. ( We had site 250 and really liked it) The bathrooms were toilet/shower combos and were very clean. Attractions close by is a drive-in with 4 different screens, many places to eat, parks ( Vitale Park was really nice), a fun center with mini golf, go carts, batting cages, laser tag and arcade. We also experienced the local flea market in Avon, NY. It's HUGE!

    Darien Lakes State Park Campground

    Clean/Quiet Campground

9/25-9/29/22- The park was nearly empty, perhaps 6 or 8 other campers widely spread out. It was immaculate and the sites well spaced apart. All site have a picnic table and fire pit. Ours had both 30A and 50A power, was pretty level left/right but about 6” high in front before we leveled our 34’ fifth wheel. The park has drinking water faucets at a variety of places throughout, but site#15 has a faucet directly next to it, so we had water available too. Both AT&T 4G and Verizon 5G had 3 bars reception. The dump station was clean and convenient. It looked like a great place for kids that included at least one (probably more) playground.

Guide to Wales Center

Cabin camping near Wales Center, New York provides access to the western New York countryside with elevations averaging 1,100-1,500 feet. The area experiences distinct seasonal changes with summer temperatures typically ranging from 65-85°F during peak camping months. Winter cabin options are limited as most facilities close by mid-October and reopen in May when spring foliage begins to emerge.

What to do

Zip line adventures: HTR Niagara Campground offers both adult and kid zip lines for aerial thrills. "Branches has a lot to offer on site and near by. The pool and lazy river are beautiful, the zip line is awesome and they have great sites," notes a camper at HTR Niagara.

Disc golf courses: Darien Lakes State Park Campground features a recently developed disc golf course among its recreational options. "This park is a nicely kept, clean and quiet gem. I live local to the area and still find a time to setup the tent and enjoy some peace and quiet away from the noise of daily life. There are miles of hiking trails, nice 'lakes' to fish and swim in. There is a fairly new Frisbee golf course as well."

Winter cabin options: Limited facilities remain open during colder months, but Darien Lakes State Park does offer winter camping opportunities in some cabins. "We did some winter camping here. We backpacked into the lean to along the Conservation Trail. It was in good condition and we had a large clearing for activities. No issues with animals."

Fishing access: Most cabin campgrounds in the area maintain stocked ponds or lake access. At Beaver Meadow Family Campground, "The fish in the pond were hungry and active," making it ideal for anglers seeking easy catches.

What campers like

Heated pool facilities: Multiple Wales Center cabin properties feature heated swimming options. At Jellystone Park of Western New York, visitors appreciate that "Put put was free. So many things to do with the kids. Heated pools. Beach was clean."

Holiday celebrations: Seasonal events are popular at many cabin properties near Wales Center. A visitor to Jellystone Park noted, "They have the best fireworks for July 4 and their Halloween weekends are full of fun and fright!"

Peaceful settings: For those seeking quieter cabin experiences, Sleepy Hollow Lake Campground offers a more relaxed atmosphere. "Plenty of activities around the campground. Golf cart rentals available. Clean restrooms near the store," writes a visitor who appreciated the balance of amenities and tranquility.

Restaurant access: On-site dining options at some properties mean less meal preparation during cabin stays. At Three Valley Resort, "The pool is nice, they have a nice restaurant and cute peacocks," eliminating the need to cook every meal.

What you should know

Seasonal operations: Most cabin facilities follow similar seasonal patterns. Letchworth State Park Campground runs from "May 6 to October 16," while Beaver Meadow is open "May 1 to Columbus Day," making fall and spring visits subject to availability.

Noise considerations: Some properties, especially those near attractions, can be louder. At Six Flags Darien Lake Campground, one camper notes, "It was loud and not very relaxing. Don't know if I would stay there again," while another mentions, "I haven't been here in a while but people mostly stay here for one of two reason. Because they don't want to drive home drunk from a concert, or they have 14 loud kids that want to be at the amusement park."

Variable site spacing: Cabin proximity varies significantly between properties. At Colden Lakes Resort, "The back in sites are very wide and roomy, the pull through sites are a little closer together," providing options for different privacy preferences.

Golf cart policies: Several campgrounds offer rentals but with different rules. At Beaver Meadow Family Campground, "The golf cart rental was pretty steep compared to all other campgrounds," while Sleepy Hollow Lake makes them readily available.

Tips for camping with families

Themed activity schedules: Jellystone Park creates structured entertainment for children. "There is something for everyone at this campground. They made recent addition as that are awesome. The added a new section of premium sites (pull-thru and back-in), the added a beach to their pond and allow swimming."

Pool restrictions: Some properties maintain specific swimming policies. At Beaver Meadow, one visitor noted: "My only real issue is the ridiculous two adult pool rule if you are with kids... The lady working in the office came out and told them they had to get out because 'there has to be two adults and one has to stay on deck'."

Proximity to attractions: For families seeking activities beyond the campground, consider locations strategically. "Darien Lakes State Park is... a good alternative to paying the high prices to stay at the theme park down the road."

Off-season pricing concerns: Some visitors note that shoulder season rates don't always reflect value. Beaver Meadow was described as "Pricey for off-season" despite reduced amenities available during that time.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: At Letchworth State Park Campground, cabin and RV sites are arranged in distinct areas. "The campgrounds are basic and very nice given the relatively high popularity. The campsites are in two main areas of the park and further broken down into many different loops. The loops near the Lower Falls are our favorites."

Terrain challenges: Three Valley Resort presents unique considerations for larger rigs. "The area is very hilly so you will have to drive them to the areas of interest," notes one RVer about navigating the property.

Extension cord availability: At some locations, power hookup positioning can be challenging. At Colden Lakes Resort, visitors appreciate that "The owners, Dan and Flora, were able to put us somewhere that was somewhat secluded with an open field behind us and some trees for shade. They even let us borrow an extension cord so we could park further off the road."

Laundry facilities: Only select properties offer laundry services, with Letchworth State Park being one of the few cabin campgrounds providing this amenity for extended stays.
