Best Campgrounds near Rush, NY

Rush, New York is centrally located to several well-established campgrounds that accommodate various camping styles. Letchworth State Park Campground, situated about 20 miles southwest of Rush, offers tent sites, RV hookups, cabins, and yurts within its scenic gorge setting. Closer to town, the Canandaigua-Rochester KOA provides family-friendly camping with both primitive tent sites and full-service RV spots. The region's campgrounds typically operate seasonally, with most facilities open from May through October, coinciding with the favorable weather conditions in western New York.

Most campgrounds in the area require advance reservations, particularly during summer weekends and fall foliage season. The camping season generally runs from early May through mid-October, with limited availability outside these months. "Our site was clean and reasonably level but there was no shade at all. We were comfortable, though, after putting out the awning and setting up our portable gazebo," noted one camper about the Canandaigua-Rochester KOA. Road access to campgrounds is generally good, with paved routes leading to most established facilities. Cell service varies throughout the region but remains reliable near larger campgrounds and populated areas. Visitors should note that many campgrounds enforce quiet hours and have specific fire regulations during dry periods.

Campers consistently highlight the region's blend of natural beauty and convenient amenities. Several visitors mentioned appreciation for clean facilities and family-friendly activities at local campgrounds. One camper reported that Genesee Country Campground offers "nice little store too! Overall this place was great and we'd stay here again in a heartbeat. Very easy place to spend the night." The proximity to the Finger Lakes adds to the appeal, with Conesus Lake Campground providing water access for boating and fishing. Seasonal campers can enjoy spring wildflowers, summer swimming, brilliant fall foliage, and occasionally winter camping opportunities at select locations. Wildlife viewing opportunities include deer, wild turkeys, and various bird species, particularly in the more secluded camping areas and during early morning hours.

    Big Guys Campground

    Activities for all ages!

There is so much to do at this camp! They have a jump pillow, pool arcade, movie room, RC track, and bingo for everyone. They have live music at tavern on the property with great food! They have a disc golf field, fishing, and so many places to go on the golf carts! They also go in big on their themed weekends. Great place to go if you want the kids exhausted at the end of the day!!

Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill

    Inexpensive, Peaceful.

I've stayed here on 3 separate occasions, twice in RV 12 and once in RV 6.

I used the 30 AMP hookup and had zero issues.

Beautiful playground for my son to enjoy and meet other kiddos. Deer, chipmunks and rabbits will say hi in the early and late hours.

    Large dumpsters near entrance.

Dump stations are present, but I haven't used them yet.

Potable water is present at a small spigot.

The washrooms facility is very close and speaking for the men's side, it had 2 stalls, 2 urinals, 2 showers, multiple sinks, and a sturdy baby changing station.

Hiking trails with gorgeous views of the valley within a 5 min walk of my campsite.

    Sleepy Hollow Lake Campground

    Kid friendly but Bee Problem

We had a lot of fun here and there’s a lot of activities for kids I would typically give this campsite 5 stars but our only problem was there were bees everywhere. I get some bees are apart of the camping experience and nature but we’ve never ran into this problem elsewhere. They were all over the campground it was very unpleasant and there was a nest under the playground we did advise management of.

    Hamlin Beach State Park Campground

    Relaxing 2 weeks

The camp store is closed along with no firewood and no laundry.

We stayed for 2 weeks and it was so relaxing. We loved biking through the loops and by the beach at the park. There was live music at the park during the week. The campground has an activity room full of things to do. As a state park, there are a lot of different people with different values, so be ready for the occasional obnoxious family. Our site was secluded and in the pines. We love it here and will definitely do this again!

    Woodstream Campsite

    Rip off

Have to stay at least 2 nights. Employees say one thing. Then boss charges me even though I was told it was okay. Aren't willing to reason with. Also traffic very loud at night

    Stay Bristol Woodlands

    Well maintained and friendly Staff!

Campground is adorable, you can see a lot of other campers, but the spots are spaced out. Showers were nice, didn’t get to try the pool out as it was a quick stopover, but this seems like a fun place to spend some time

    Beaver Meadow Family Campground

    Ridiculous pool rule

The campgrounds are nice. The staff, friendly. Brought our RV so I didn’t see the bathrooms. We had a site that was “lake view” which was funny because it’s a pond. It was stocked so fishing was fun. They have a nice heated pool. My only real issue is the ridiculous two adult pool rule if you are with kids. We spent all day at the rodeo. We came back ready to swim after being in the sun all day. Of course my toddler fell asleep so I stayed with him at the campsite and my husband took our other two kids to the pool. They were able to swim for 15 mins before the other people who were at the pool took off. So it was just my husband and kids left. The lady working in the office came out and told them they had to get out because“there has to be two adults and one has to stay on deck”. Like, what?!? Seriously? That’s the stupidest rule I’ve ever heard. So he gets my very disappointed kids out of the pool and they are just hanging out pool side hoping for basically a stranger to come swim so they can swim. They waited nearly an hour before they got defeated and came back to the camper. Stupid rule. I’ve never seen any campground ever have that rule. If you are that worried about a solo parent taking care of their kids, hire a life guard. Or make that pool rule known prior to booking. My kids had life jackets on and my husband is CPR certified. Literally will never come here again because of this rule. Lame lame LAME.
