Green Lakes State Park Campground features multiple pet-friendly camping areas across its diverse 10-mile trail network. Dogs are welcome throughout designated campsites within the park, including specific tent sites, RV hookup areas, and cabin accommodations. The park maintains separate pet-allowed loops with recently updated facilities including modern restrooms and shower buildings. Campsites have picnic tables and fire pits, with many sites offering electric hookups and some featuring full hookups including water and sewer. The bathrooms have been remodeled and most are private with toilet, shower and sink facilities which makes this a wonderful family campground that accommodates pets.

Morgan Hill State Forest offers several pet-friendly dispersed camping options along with designated primitive sites at the Onondaga Trailhead campground. While camping with dogs is permitted throughout most of the forest, campers must follow Leave No Trace principles and standard state forest rules, including keeping pets leashed and staying at least 150 feet from water bodies. The campground provides picnic tables and fire pits at developed sites, though visitors should note there are no restroom facilities or water sources directly at the campsite locations. Hikers with dogs can access the extensive trail network, including connections to the Onondaga Trail branch of the National North Country Scenic Trail. The woods surrounding the camping areas are beautiful with well-developed trails, but pet owners should come prepared with tick repellent as they are prevalent in spring and early summer.

      Pinecreek Campground

Beautiful Park, beautiful area could be so much more with a little effort!

Pinecreek is a beautiful park in a great area 10 minutes from downtown Ithica New York and Lake Cayuga. The area has everything you could possibly want or need. Fabulous State Parks with spectacular waterfalls, a farmers market right on the lake front, Cornell University and so much more. That being said it may be the reason the campground doesn't offer any planned activities. They do have a swimming pool and what appears to be a large clubhouse/meeting area that is not or was not used while we were there, nor were any activities publicized. They do have a small arcade but it did not stay open past 8 pm and did not appear to be air-conditioned.

Our campsite was a full hookup with a large grassy area for setting up our outside chairs and picnic table. Although we enjoyed our stay we felt it was a bit overpriced for not having much to offer. They also have a very long list of rules & while they do allow pets there is a list of breed restrictions you need to be aware of before booking a reservation. They also charge for electricity on any stays one week or longer which we had not encountered previously at campgrounds where we have stayed.

Overall we enjoyed our stay but not sure we would stay again.

      Delta Lake State Park Campground

      Delta Lake State Park

Delta Lake State Park sits at the foothills of the Adirondack Park, just outside Rome, New York. Pretty and well-kempt, Delta Lake is a nice option for those looking to stay close to home and within proximity to civilization. You can enjoy the great outdoors, while only being a few miles away from a restaurant or grocery store.

The campground isn‘t the best I’ve experienced, a bit on the crowded side-similar to a woodsy suburb- but this could have been distinctive to Loop A where I stayed. I stayed in site 35 and was intermixed with all the campers and RV’s, so it got a bit noisy. Not that restful, secluded experience I typically go for, but I should have planned further in advance.

However, what the park lacked in terms of its campground, it totally made up for in its beach, swimming and picnic areas! This place was awesome for hosting a birthday party for my niece and relaxing at the beach/ day facilities. They have plenty of picnic tables, charcoal grills, a huge beach and locker rooms. This is really a great place to spend a day with your family!

      Bowman Lake State Park Campground

      A dump

New York State pretty much has abandoned this park. Trees fallen down across the sites. Might be ok for a tent but that’s all.

Robert H. Treman State Park Campground

Robert H. Treman State Park, NY

Located in Tompkins County, Ithaca New York has beautiful gorges and hiking trails. Robert Treman is a treat and a gorgeous place to camp in the Ithaca, NY area. There are endless waterfalls, hiking trails, fishing holes and bird watching opportunities. The campground has bathrooms, showers, picnic tables, a playground and a dump station. There are cabins, tents and rv sites, some of which are handicapped accessible. Ithaca is also packed with wineries and the finger lakes. A great place to visit!

      Pinecreek Campground

Close to Ithaca and Cayuga Parks

This is a campground set in a nice forest location, but close by to Treman State Park and Ithaca, so a good base for day trips. They offer mostly RV camping, but do have a substantial area for tent camping and  also have nice some rustic camper cabins as well as cottages and regular full service cabins. For families who enjoy neighbors, this is a good campground. Lots of families, lots of kids riding bikes and doing activities, nice kid-friendly fishing pond, lots of open space for ball games etc. There is even an offleash dog park so Fido can come along and have fun.  This is a busier campground than I ordinarily would have chosen as a tent camper, but I was joining friends for a cabin stay on Labor Day weekend as nearby state park campgrounds were full. The whole grounds are well maintained and well landscaped, they did have some scheduled activities, and the pool looked sparkling clean. The cabin we stayed in was very nice, and set back into the woods along a small river and with good access to hiking trails. The camper cabins looked brand new, and I spoke to a family staying in one and they really liked it. My friends son loved the fishing, swimming, and meeting other kids to play with. The campground was not noisy for the size, and though it was large and nearly full everything was nice and all the campers respectful of each others space. Ithaca is not far for activities and supplies, and there are many local state parks that are easy to get to. I would rather camp right in a state park but this would be a great alternative especially for folks with RVs

Yogi Bears Jellystone Park Camp Resort at Mexico

      Great Salmon fishing....Mexico NY

This is our 4th experience at a Jellystone. The campground was clean and staff was super nice. Organized the Halloween activities nicely. Yogi and the characters were very involved. For the fisherman, it's located on Salmon River and appears to have quite a lot of large salmon this time of year. I was shocked at the size of the fish that were being cleaned. My husband believes that area of the river was a private sector for the campground. Smaller campground than others I have been too but made it nice for kids to rides bikes safely since there weren't golf carts located at this campground. What I didn't enjoy as much. 1) The sites were muddy, especially when it had recently rained. Luckily we came after it rained and it had dried out some. 2) the dog park was a walking area, not a fenced in yard for them to let some of their energy out 3) No sewer hookups available but does had a dump station on your way out.

      Taughannock Falls State Park Campground

      Taughannock has Everything!

Taughannock Falls State Park is one of my favorite parks in New York. The camp grounds are excellent, there are TONS of trails nearby, the swimming area of the lake is close, and the water is very clean. The crown jewel of the place is Taughannock Falls, which is a short flat hike to one of the tallest single drop waterfalls on the east coast. It really is quite the sight. There are cool playgrounds for the kids, grills, restrooms, showers, and plenty of activities to do, such as stand up paddle boarding. Taughannock has it going on, and I will be back!

Blueberry Patch Campground — Green Mountain & Finger Lakes National Forests

      Simple

The only Finger Lakes National Forest designated campground, Blueberry Patch offers a secluded experience in the heart of this sometimes overlooked beautiful geographic region in the State of New York. This campground offers a simple experience, with fire rings and picnic tables at each site and seems to accommodate just tent and small campers. Vault toilets available. On a week day in early summer, 3 of the 9 campsites we’re occupied. Can see it filling up on weekends. Enjoy!

    Guide to Pompey

Camping options near Pompey, New York center around the southern Finger Lakes region at approximately 1,300 feet elevation. The area features a mix of glacial lakes and forested hills with camping season typically running from May through mid-October. Summer temperatures average 75-85°F during the day with cooler evenings around 55-65°F.

    What to do

Hiking trails: Green Lakes State Park offers multiple trail options including a 3.1-mile loop trail with shade around two glacier-formed turquoise lakes. "There are miles of trails to explore," notes Cindy H., who appreciates the "beautiful lake" with its distinctive color.

Water activities: Oneida Shores County Park provides beach access and water recreation on Oneida Lake. "Life guards around. Nice playground and bathrooms available. Staff was nice. Picnic areas available," reports Sara H. about her visit in June.

Fishing spots: Stoney Pond in the State Forest provides access for anglers with "a gravel peninsula for shore fishing" alongside "a small boat launch meant for canoes and kayaks and small non motorized fishing boats," according to Janet R. The pond is surrounded by mature shade trees making it comfortable for summer fishing.

Winter recreation: When snow covers the region, some areas remain accessible for cold-weather activities. "The winter the camp ground is open for hiking, x country skiing and smobiling," writes Brian O. about Fillmore Glen State Park, which maintains year-round appeal.

    What campers like

Private sites: At Woonton Family Farms, visitors appreciate the exclusivity with only two camping sites total. "We had an excellent stay at the farm of the Woonton Family Farms with our RV, it was a cozy and beautiful campsite with personal attention of the owner," writes Willemien V., who enjoyed the farm's "fresh blackberries and the option of canoeing."

Clean facilities: Verona Beach State Park Campground receives positive feedback for its maintenance standards. "Clean bathhouses were nice. Wood was for sale by camp host at 50 cents a piece," shares Rachelle W., who stayed at site 11 and appreciated the "nice camper's beach and trail on the lake front."

Wildlife viewing: The forests and lakes around Pompey attract various wildlife species. "The woods are beautiful with well-developed trails," Janet R. mentions about Morgan Hill State Forest, though she advises visitors to "come prepared with tick repellent as they are prevalent in spring and early summer."

Waterfall swimming: Natural water features draw many summer visitors. "Swimming is available at the large beach. You can rent a kayak and enjoy the beautiful lake," says Cindy H. about Green Lakes, while Kenneth S. adds that "the water is Crystal clear and very blue, you will think you are in the Caribbean Islands."

    What you should know

Pet policies: Dog friendly campgrounds near Pompey typically require pets to be leashed at all times. At Morgan Hill Forest—Onondaga Trailhead campground, pets are permitted on trails and at campsite areas, but Janet R. notes that "there are NO toilet or outhouse right at the campground," meaning pet owners should prepare for more rustic conditions.

Water access: Not all campgrounds provide drinking water. At Stoney Pond State Forest, "there is one site set aside for picnicking and day use only, on a very pretty spit on the south shore," but campers must bring their own water supplies as none are available on site.

Site spacing: Layout and privacy vary significantly between campgrounds. "Unless you score a campsite in the row up against the water, forget privacy. The campsites are spacious but you're pretty much camping on the same lawn as your neighbors with very few trees in between," explains Ali T. about Verona Beach State Park.

Seasonal conditions: Weather impacts the camping experience substantially. "We attempted to set up near the lake, but found the wind to be overwhelming. We ended up in the corner site by the woods," shares Thomas M. about his experience at Verona Beach.

    Tips for camping with families

Bathroom facilities: Modern restrooms make camping with children more manageable. "The bathrooms have been remodeled and most are private with a toilet, shower and sink which makes this a wonderful family campground," explains Sheri S. about Green Lakes State Park.

Playground access: The Villages RV Park at Turning Stone offers "a pool, playground, hiking trail, fishing pond, paddleboat rentals," according to April L., who has "visited at least once a year since 2016" and finds it "beautifully maintained" for family activities.

Water safety: When camping with children near water, look for supervised swimming areas. "Very nice campground. There are many sites with electric available at every site," shares Cindy H., adding that "swimming is available at the large beach" with lifeguards present at Green Lakes State Park.

Activity variety: Keeping children entertained requires diverse options. "If you want something for everyone, this is the place," Kelly J. writes about Green Lakes, noting it has "2 Great Lakes to hike around with awesome views. Fishing and boat rental if you want to be closer to the water. Beach for swimming with concession stand with quite a full menu."

    Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: For RVers seeking pet-friendly campgrounds near Pompey with full amenities, The Villages at Turning Stone RV Park offers comprehensive services. "Very well kept up, bathrooms are very modern and well stocked. Staff are attentive and useful, and they operate a great store with lots of options," Michael O. shares about the facilities.

Site leveling: Pay attention to topography when selecting sites. "The sites are level and great size with nice spacing in between," reports Jen O., a full-time traveling family who stayed at Turning Stone with their Class A motorhome and towed Jeep.

Rail noise: Location affects noise levels at some campgrounds. "The only real negatives would be the proximity to some railroad tracks, which can be somewhat active and very audible in some spots (you'll want to stay towards the south / front of the park if this kind of thing bothers you)," advises Michael O. about Turning Stone.

Seasonal restrictions: Check campground opening dates as many close during winter months. "Turning Stone is well maintained with nice sites. Memorial day weekend the weather is beautiful spring weather. All full hook up sites from full sun to full shade," notes Carl G. who has been visiting for over 25 years.
