    Finger Lakes RV Resort

    Just as advertised

Wonderful location and marvelous hosts. We were welcomed with chocolate chip cookies as we checked in. Bathrooms were beautiful and clean. Two wineries we could walk to and dozens more nearby. Our site was spacious and the dog park gave our pups plenty of time off leash. We definitely plan on returning.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    30+ years of great memories!

We have camped at Letchworth State Park for nearly 30 years. Recent updates to playground equipment and restroom/shower facilities have brought the amenities into the 21st century. The price is reasonable, and the park is a gem. A couple cons to consider: pets only allowed in three loops. Quite often, pet loop reservations are maxed quickly. There is a two dog limit, which excludes many campers. If you are used to private campgrounds, realize that services are limited here. Mediocre camp store and laundry; both get the job done, but leave a lot to be desired.

    Letchworth State Park, NY

Letchworth State Park is known as the Grand Canyon of the East and is located in Mt. Morris New York. My husband and I visited regularly when we lived near Rochester, NY. The park is stunning and is fit for camping whether you’re in a tent, RV or choosing to rent a gorgeous cabin. There are many walking and hiking trails for adventurers of all types. Make sure you bring your camera as the views are all photo worthy. The camping price is right due to the fact that the park is run by the state. A great place to stay especially in the Summer!!

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Good weekend campsite

Not technically in the Finger Lakes but still one of the most beautiful parts of Western New York State. Splurge and eat at the Glen Iris Inn! Great for cycling and hiking but no swimming. I love taking visitors here in all seasons but in autumn it is exceptional. I’ve stayed in a few tent sites and all are wooded and pretty private with your standard basic amenities. This is a popular park so make reservations.

The Grand Canyon of the East!

I went to college right near Letchworth State Park so I spent many wonderful weekends there! There is a reason why they call it the Grand Canyon of the East. Not only can you check out the beautiful waterfalls, but there are also many awesome trails, rivers, and caves to check out. When I would camp, we would rent a camp site with our tent but, you could camp with your RV or even rent a cabin. Ive gone every month of the year, but these pictures were from my birthday in January. Letchworth is one of the best parks in New York state and a definite must see!

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Letchworth State Park

My son and I have a new favorite campground.  We absolutely fell in love with this park.  I find it odd that even though I grew up only an hour away, we never camped there.  Big mistake!  There are many trails to hike on and beautiful views of the gorge and river.  You have to drive to many of the places but it's worth it.  There are many souvenir and snack stands as well as a pool (again, you have to drive to them).  The camp store is small but well stocked with a laundry attached. Some loops allow pets and others don't.  If you want to bring your pet, please check to make sure you reserve a pet-friendly loop. Unfortunately for us, it rained the entire time we were there so we never got to walk the trails or use the pool.  Keep an eye out for other activities.  There are balloon rides, craft shows, etc. that happen throughout the summer. With so much to do in the park, you don't really need to leave but nearby is the Arcade and Attica Railroad.  It's a nice little ride through the countryside.  There is also a small dam that you can visit (we missed out this last time).  I highly recommend visiting.

    Sampson State Park Campground

Solid option in the finger lakes.

We camped here for 3 nights, I had an event in Geneva. Location was handy, easy in and out. It’s an old navy/Air Force base that was converted in the 60’s. Sites have a weird thing with one electric post per two sites… but they aren’t pull through. So, apparently, New York doesn’t care if you just park anywhere in the general area of your site, which is a vibe, but bring an extension cord. There’s some kind of “resort” co-located that appears to have more conventional hookups, but I’m unclear on how to book that. Price was fine, spot was ok, lake swim beach and playground were nice.

What to do

Hiking with dogs: Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill provides trails with varying difficulty levels where dogs can accompany owners. "Dog-friendly hiking trails wind through Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill, offering scenic overlooks especially stunning during fall foliage season," notes one visitor. The park includes multiple trail loops connecting to the regional Finger Lakes Trail system.

Water activities: Hamlin Beach State Park Campground offers opportunities for shoreline exploration with pets. One camper mentioned, "Great access to the shores of Lake Ontario from campground. Also few mile stretch of beaches. Short but pretty nature trail through the woods opposite the lake as well that goes through hard words and into wetlands."

Canal trail walking: Exploring historic waterways with your pet provides exercise and scenic views. A visitor at Red's Twilight on the Erie RV Resort shared, "Kayak launches and boat marina nearby. The speed limit is 5 MPH and they mean it.... Kids on bikes and having a good time in the enormous play area and the pool far enough from the campsites but close to the store."

What campers like

Private camping spaces: Campers appreciate sites with adequate separation. At Webster Park, visitors noted, "The sites are large and accommodating. It's clean, and that you have more privacy than other sites I've been to." Another camper mentioned, "Small little park with few amenities on Lake Ontario. Sites are spacious, however specific to size of camper."

Wildlife encounters: Proximity to natural habitats allows for wildlife observation. At Creek n Wood, reviewers point out the natural setting: "Sites have picnic table, fire ring, Adirondack chairs, water and electric hookup, and a dump station to use on your way out. If you stay for an extended period, they offer free emptying at your site. Turtle visits are complimentary as well."

Clean facilities: Letchworth State Park Campground maintains well-kept amenities that pet owners appreciate. "The bathrooms are practically luxurious by most camping standards, with single-use restroom/showers available at all hours. The camp store offered a few grocery items, along with cold drinks, firewood and ice in addition to laundry facilities."

What you should know

Limited winter options: The majority of pet-friendly campgrounds close during winter months. Letchworth State Park Campground operates from "May 6 to October 16" according to their listing information, which is typical for the region.

Cell reception variability: Connectivity can be inconsistent depending on location. A camper at Hamlin Beach State Park Campground reported, "We stayed for 1 night on a Thursday. At&t reception is almost non existent."

Reservation requirements: Stay Bristol Woodlands and most area campgrounds require advance booking, especially during summer. "Site was level and well equipped (waste water disposal attach site!). Bathrooms clean and fully functional," noted a recent visitor.

Tips for camping with families

Playground proximity: Sites near play areas offer convenience for families with pets and children. A reviewer at Canandaigua-Rochester KOA mentioned, "This KOA has all that you need for a relaxing family trip. It is close to the finger lakes, is clean, has kid activities and a pond where the fish are easy to catch with hotdogs!"

Activity options: Conesus Lake Campground provides multiple recreation choices. "The campground was nice and clean, the staff was very friendly, and the pool was nice. Only complaint is nature. The hill is a killer! But that problem was solved by renting a golf cart!"

Site selection strategy: Choose sites based on shade and lake access depending on season. At Hamlin Beach State Park Campground, a visitor shared, "The sites in the loop we stayed in had about 75' between driveways, all with varying levels of trees/brush between them, very secluded. The beach is a decent little hike, but very easy flat bike ride or about a minute in a car going 15mph."

Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Webster Park offers electric service for RVs with water access points shared between sites. A camper noted, "We had an electric hook-up for our 17' travel trailer. Two-headed water spigots are shared by 2 sites, which worked reasonably well; we were glad we had an extra hose to reach back to our camper."

Leveling challenges: Some campgrounds require additional equipment for proper RV setup. A visitor to Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill recommended, "Also make sure to bring plenty of leveling blocks as some sites are far from level."

Site accessibility: Access roads at certain campgrounds may present challenges for larger rigs. At Conesus Lake Campground, a reviewer mentioned, "Campground is on a very steep hill so it is difficult to walk around."
