Green Lakes State Park Campground's pet-friendly loops accommodate campers with dogs on-leash throughout designated sites. The campground features full hookup options for RVs, tent sites, and cabins that welcome pets with advance reservations. Sites are spacious and clean with picnic tables and fire rings, though some pet owners note that certain loops are more crowded than others. The exceptionally clean bathrooms and hot showers make this a comfortable option for extended stays with pets. Many local campers from Syracuse visit regularly with their dogs, particularly appreciating the mix of wooded and open campsites that provide different experiences for pets and their owners.

Dogs are welcome on the 18 miles of trails throughout Green Lakes, with the requirement they remain leashed at all times. The crystal-blue lakes provide a striking backdrop for dog walks, though pets are not permitted in swimming areas or on the beach. Morgan Hill State Forest offers an alternative with more secluded, dispersed camping options for those seeking a primitive experience with their dogs. The wide, paved walking paths around Green Lakes are handicap accessible and ideal for easy dog walking, while more adventurous hikers can explore the less-crowded forest trails with their pets. Wildlife is present throughout the area, so keeping dogs leashed is essential for their safety and to protect the natural environment. The park is meticulously maintained and completely litter-free, making it a clean environment for pets.

      Delta Lake State Park Campground

      Delta Lake State Park

Delta Lake State Park sits at the foothills of the Adirondack Park, just outside Rome, New York. Pretty and well-kempt, Delta Lake is a nice option for those looking to stay close to home and within proximity to civilization. You can enjoy the great outdoors, while only being a few miles away from a restaurant or grocery store.

The campground isn‘t the best I’ve experienced, a bit on the crowded side-similar to a woodsy suburb- but this could have been distinctive to Loop A where I stayed. I stayed in site 35 and was intermixed with all the campers and RV’s, so it got a bit noisy. Not that restful, secluded experience I typically go for, but I should have planned further in advance.

However, what the park lacked in terms of its campground, it totally made up for in its beach, swimming and picnic areas! This place was awesome for hosting a birthday party for my niece and relaxing at the beach/ day facilities. They have plenty of picnic tables, charcoal grills, a huge beach and locker rooms. This is really a great place to spend a day with your family!

      Bowman Lake State Park Campground

      A dump

New York State pretty much has abandoned this park. Trees fallen down across the sites. Might be ok for a tent but that’s all.

      Taughannock Falls State Park Campground

      Taughannock has Everything!

Taughannock Falls State Park is one of my favorite parks in New York. The camp grounds are excellent, there are TONS of trails nearby, the swimming area of the lake is close, and the water is very clean. The crown jewel of the place is Taughannock Falls, which is a short flat hike to one of the tallest single drop waterfalls on the east coast. It really is quite the sight. There are cool playgrounds for the kids, grills, restrooms, showers, and plenty of activities to do, such as stand up paddle boarding. Taughannock has it going on, and I will be back!

Yogi Bears Jellystone Park Camp Resort at Mexico

      Great Salmon fishing....Mexico NY

This is our 4th experience at a Jellystone. The campground was clean and staff was super nice. Organized the Halloween activities nicely. Yogi and the characters were very involved. For the fisherman, it's located on Salmon River and appears to have quite a lot of large salmon this time of year. I was shocked at the size of the fish that were being cleaned. My husband believes that area of the river was a private sector for the campground. Smaller campground than others I have been too but made it nice for kids to rides bikes safely since there weren't golf carts located at this campground. What I didn't enjoy as much. 1) The sites were muddy, especially when it had recently rained. Luckily we came after it rained and it had dried out some. 2) the dog park was a walking area, not a fenced in yard for them to let some of their energy out 3) No sewer hookups available but does had a dump station on your way out.

      Ludlow Creek Lean-To Campsite

      Ludlow Creek Lean-to

This is a beautiful primitive hike-in campsite alongside the Ludlow Creek section of the Finger Lakes Trail in Chenango County, New York. It is located in a beautiful, unspoiled and seldom visited region of state forest, providing a wilderness type experience fairly close to several nearby villages, and only a half hour drive from the town of Norwich and less than an hour from the city of Binghamton.. The campsite is perfect for groups or individuals willing to hike in a short distance to this secluded spot. There is a large relatively new Adirondack-style lean-to in great condition, perched on an heavily wooded overlook above Ludlow Creek. The hike in from the trailhead to the north is relatively short, and recommended for easy overnight access. The hike is longer coming in from the south. The campsite is maintained by local volunteer members of the Bull Thistle Hiking Club, http://www.bullthistlehiking.org/p/about-us.html, which is a member chapter of the Finger Lakes Trail Conference http://www.fingerlakestrail.org/ If camping here, be sure to pack in water and plan to pack out garbage and leave no trace. Detailed maps of this trail section can be found in the Finger Lakes Trail East Passport Guide, see map E07, p. 21 at http://www.fltconference.org/trail/files/3814/0154/4940/Passport_East_View.pdf, or visit the interactive trail map at https://fltconference.org/trails/P/TrailConditionMaps/Interactive/Seg_Cat.html?Vifw#"

      Green Lakes State Park Campground

Green Lakes is a model state park

This is a great example of what a state park should be. It not only preserves a place of unique biological diversity and geologic interest, it is also well set up and well maintained to maximize low impact outdoor recreation and environmental education. A new state of the art regional environmental education center is being built now that will open in spring, as well as new handicapped access kayaking docks that complement Accessible trails and campsites throughout the park. This is a great destination for families, handicapped campers, and natural history enthusiasts. There are several campgrounds, one is large and open and meant for large RVs, others are drive-in forested tent sites or trailer sites with hookups, and several walkin sites. There is also a colony of rustic camper cabins. The campgrounds have brand new restroom facilities and playgrounds, and the main lake has a new beach house. The lake is a fascinating meromictic lake with clear calcium-rich waters that are not only pristine and beautiful to look at, but also great for swimming and snorkeling as the waters are crystal clear and very deep. There are hiking trails, paved bike trails, a nature preserve for bird watching at Round Lake, a golf course, and great kayaking or canoeing. It is also located right next door to the Erie Canal State Park for those who want to hike or bike the historic Erie Canal. Though you might expect a park like this to be in a remote location, it is actually just a short distance east of the suburbs of the Syracuse metro area, so it is an easy park to get to, plus staying there also provides easy access to stores for supplies, or access to local cultural activities or restaurants for those who want that. One of my favorite state parks in New York!

      Buttermilk Falls State Park Campground

      Nice State Park

Buttermilk Falls State Park is a great state park in central New York. The scenery is what makes this park stand out. Unlike neighboring Taughannock Falls State Park, there isn't a large waterfall at the end of any trail. However, it is the mix of constant small waterfalls that really show in this park. There are plenty of overlooks, you can go in the streams, and the camp sites are great. They are spacious and inviting, and the neighbors are close, but not TOO close. Excellent for a weekend getaway or longer because there is so much to see.

      Taughannock Falls State Park Campground

      Stunningly Beautiful!!

Went for a quick getaway to this little gem of a state park in the finger lakes region of New York. I’ll be coy, and use their slogan ‘Ithaca is Gorges’ and Gorgeous!!! The falls trails were all well defined and excellent for a beginner, moderate hiker. More advanced trails were also offered as well as biking trails, so plenty for any level of adventurer!! Lots of educational posters along the way to keep you informed of what you were seeing and the history about how it was created. The locals were pleasant, and eager to share fun facts about their area. We stayed at the campground in the park. It was cozy, clean, and just right for a little off the grid fun. No electricity or water hook ups available, but nice big public baths and plenty of water access all around the camp ground. (Say one water spot every 3-4 camp sites). There was also a dump station and trash dumpsters easily accessible at the entrance. Can not wait to go back, planning a week long trip next year and will do all three tours, wine, beer, and cheese!! Till next September!! Stay Gorges!!!

    Guide to Manlius

Green Lakes State Park Campground sits 1,100 feet above sea level near Manlius, New York, with a pair of meromictic glacial lakes at its center. The campground offers full-hookup RV sites, tent camping, and cabins in a mix of wooded and open settings. Many sites provide level, paved pads with easy access to the park's 18-mile trail system.

    What to Do

Hiking trails around glacial lakes: At Fillmore Glen State Park Campground, trails lead through a gorge with five waterfalls. "The hiking trails and the falls that you see are absolutely breathtaking," notes Michelle L., who has camped there for years. The park features spring-fed swimming areas, fishing spots, and winter activities.

Paddle on Oneida Lake: Oneida Shores County Park provides direct lake access with boat launches. "The beach area is nice and guarded," reports Sara H. The park's recently paved camping area sits in a "nice wooded setting on the lake," according to Shawn, making it convenient for water activities.

Swimming in natural settings: When temperatures rise, campers can cool off at designated swimming areas. "The water is Crystal clear and very blue, you will think you are in the Caribbean Islands," Kenneth S. says about the lakes at Green Lakes State Park. Visitors can rent kayaks or rowboats to explore the water or fish from shorelines.

    What Campers Like

Clean, modern facilities: Verona Beach State Park Campground maintains well-kept bathrooms with hot showers. "Clean bathhouses were nice. Wood was for sale by camp host at 50 cents a piece," reports Rachelle W. The campground sits along Lake Oneida with lakefront sites offering direct water access.

Spacious, level campsites: Many campgrounds in the region provide well-maintained sites with room to spread out. "Sites are spacious, lots to do for kids, facilities are new and clean," writes Keri about The Villages RV Park at Turning Stone. This higher-end option offers full hookups on paved sites with shuttle service to nearby attractions.

Recreation options beyond hiking: Campgrounds near Manlius offer diverse activities for all ages. "If you want something for everyone, this is the place," Kelly J. notes about Green Lakes. "There are 2 Great Lakes to hike around with awesome views. Fishing and boat rental if you want to be closer to the water."

    What You Should Know

Reservation recommendations: During peak summer months, especially weekends, most campgrounds fill quickly. At popular parks, book sites several months in advance if possible.

Dispersed camping options: For those seeking a more primitive experience, Morgan Hill State Forest Dispersed offers free backcountry camping. Janet R. advises, "Be sure to download a copy of the forest map with the trails network marked, as the various trails are blazed and have occasional signs, but they crisscross in a confusing network."

Weather considerations: Summer temperatures typically range from 65-85°F with higher humidity. Afternoon thunderstorms occur frequently in July and August, so prepare with proper rain gear.

Wildlife awareness: Ticks are prevalent in spring and early summer throughout the region's forests. Pack appropriate insect repellent and conduct regular checks after hiking, especially on pets.

    Tips for Camping with Families

Kid-friendly amenities: Many campgrounds feature playgrounds and beaches designed for children. "Fun hiking area the water is gorgeous. Great playgrounds. Bathrooms and showers were very clean," Sara H. shares about Green Lakes State Park.

Educational opportunities: Stoney Pond State Forest Camping Area offers a primitive camping experience with nature learning potential. "This is a primitive state forest campground on the south shore of Stoney Pond. There are 15 drive-in campsites widely spaced and set into the woods," explains Janet R. The pond allows fishing and small non-motorized boats.

Safety considerations: Not all water areas are supervised. "The beach can get busy during the summer however it is a great place to swim, camp, boat (there are rentals) and enjoy yourself," Meag F. notes about Green Lakes. Always check for lifeguard schedules and swimming restrictions.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Full hookup sites are available at several campgrounds, though they book quickly. "This state park campground is one of the few that offer full hook ups," Sheri S. mentions regarding Green Lakes State Park. "The bathrooms have been remodeled and most are private with a toilet, shower and sink."

Site selection advice: Choose sites based on shade preferences and privacy needs. "Sites are good, level, and the campsite is pretty," Chelsea B. says about Green Lakes, though she notes shower quality can vary. For maximum privacy, request sites along wooded edges rather than central areas.

Navigation considerations: Some campgrounds have narrow access roads or limited turning space. Check campground specifications before arrival if operating larger rigs, especially at older state parks with tighter configurations.
