Had a great weekend

Had a great time tent camping. Very clean and people were friendly. Also had great price for firewood at the camp shop.

Nice State park

I have camped here many times and still enjoy the area. Lots of hiking, biking and fishing. Boat and kayak rentals are available. Beautiful and challenging golf course too. Fill your fresh water tanks because there are zero sites with water hookup.

Free Primitive Campsite

Camped here on a Thursday night in late September. Only found one designated campsite, which was available, but there’s a lot of good space for dispersed camping right nearby. Access at the end of a long, but well maintained, dirt road. Campsite consists of a fire pit and picnic table. Some litter, not too bad. No toilets. Bugs aren’t an issue. Water access at a lovely nearby pond. Highly recommended. Only giving 4 stars because the best free sites have water pumps and vault toilets, but this is a great camping experience

Beautiful

Beautiful state park, nice beach and splash pad. Lots of room to explore, ride bikes, and fish!

Free primitive camping

Beautiful forest with miles of trails. I found this spot passing through on my bike and had no problem pitching a tent in a secluded spot in the woods. There are official camp spots with water access which are also free to use. Highly recommend!

The state park New York forgot about

Such potential gone to waste. Primitive camping, nasty outhouses good for kayaking/fishing but wake up New York you’re sitting on a gold mine here.

Great Place

owners are so nice and it’s right in the water with access via boat or even kayak to Slyvan Beach. We love it here and will definitely be back!!

Hidden gem in Chenango County

You have to work a bit to find info on the Whaupaunaucau state forest as a camping destination, but for primitive campers that is part of the appeal! This is a relatively unknown oasis outside of the county, but this state forest has a network of miles of trails for both hiking and criss country skiing. There is an offifical lean-to shelter and developed campsite on trail 20 (see map) but there are several primitive sites with tent site and stine fireplace, plus dispersed leave-no-trace camping is allowed anywhere in the state forest, and the possibilities are endless. Lovely hilly vistas, pondside glens, and lots of clearings near clear streams deep in this old stately forest. A great place to get away from it all for hiking and camping but it is also a fantastic place to go if you enjoy botanizing or birding, lots of unusual species to see. Just beware of ticks, they are invading the region

New York State’s big mistake

The park had great potential the pond is fairly large and is great for fishing or a canoe/kayak. The rustic sites are small but could have been so much more if the state hadn’t walked away. What little is there has fallen into disrepair or was never finished and is falling down. It’s too bad there’s amazing potential there

Favorite place to camp with the family!

Bring your bikes, the swimming is great and the entire swimming/boating area just underwent a major renovation. You can rent kayaks and paddle boards and the park is well maintained and monitored by park police, very safe! Love, love, love it here!!
