Several RV parks near Machias, New York provide varied accommodation options for recreational vehicles. Maple Lane RV Park in Cuba operates from April 1 to October 31 with electric, water, sewer hookups, and fifty-amp service for larger motorhomes. High Pines RV Park in Kane, Pennsylvania features 149 sites with both thirty and fifty-amp electrical connections on pull-through pads that accommodate big rigs. Skyline RV Resort in Darien Center offers seasonal camping from May through October with full hookup sites that include electric, water and sewer connections. Misty Mountain RV Park in Cuba provides electric hookups and water connections suitable for various RV sizes. "We were able to park deeper off the road due to the kindness of the owners letting us borrow an extension cord. Behind us was a field and we parked between two trees which was awesome."

Fall foliage season fills many parks to capacity, requiring advance reservations particularly for larger rigs. Most RV sites in the region maintain sanitary dump stations, though some facilities like Gander RV of Buffalo offer dump services without other campground amenities. Cell service varies throughout the mountainous terrain, with coverage generally stronger in morning hours according to visitor reports. While most parks welcome pets, specific restrictions may apply in certain areas. According to one visitor, the sites at Letchworth State Park can present challenges: "Our site wasn't the greatest as it was narrow and outside our RV door was a steep drop off making it impossible to use our awning for a seating area." Winter closures affect most parks in the region, with many operating only from May through October.

    Evangola State Park Campground

Some Sites Have a View of Lake Erie

    Unfortunately, my site did not.

However, my site wasn't crowded and the electricity was reliable. This campground has three loops. One has 30 amp power, one has 50 amp power (with a 30 amp outlet on the same pedestal) and the third loop is for tent camping. There are several places to get water in the camp, so be sure to fill up your tanks before you park. There is a dump station. None of the sites are full hook up.

Each site has a picnic table and a grill.

There are two bath houses. The newer one - between loops one and three - also has laundry facilities.

Your payment for your campsite entitles you to admission to the beach, which is a hike or a drive away.

    Cinderella Motel & Campsite

Basic, Convenient, VFM (value for money)

This campground is very basic with very close campsites.  The bathhouse and laundry are old but clean.  The staff were very friendly and helpful.  It is very close to Niagara falls and for the money it is the best campground here.  KOA and Branches CGs are nicer but they are also triple the price which for us did not seem worth it.  We were in a back in gravel site that backed up to the motel which may not seem that nice but the electric, water and sewer worked perfectly.  Our 40 foot MH and Toad fit with room to spare.  There were sites that were on the outskirts of the property that backed to the woods which some people may prefer.  Those sites were just as close although there were several that would take big rigs bit don't expect to open your awnings in most sites.   There is a nice grassy area in the center with a small covered pavilion.   There are a few sites on the side/front of Motel.  We were here to visit Niagara Falls so location and a basic campground with full hookups was all we were looking for and this campground fit our needs perfectly.  We would stay here again.

    Darien Lakes State Park Campground

    Clean/Quiet Campground

9/25-9/29/22- The park was nearly empty, perhaps 6 or 8 other campers widely spread out. It was immaculate and the sites well spaced apart. All site have a picnic table and fire pit. Ours had both 30A and 50A power, was pretty level left/right but about 6” high in front before we leveled our 34’ fifth wheel. The park has drinking water faucets at a variety of places throughout, but site#15 has a faucet directly next to it, so we had water available too. Both AT&T 4G and Verizon 5G had 3 bars reception. The dump station was clean and convenient. It looked like a great place for kids that included at least one (probably more) playground.

    AA Royal Motel & Campground

An old campsite that fits our needs

This is not a resort campground nor is it a campground built for escapism. It’s very close to Niagara Falls, the Rainbow Bridge (for driving into Canada), and Buffalo, NY.

Mike is very friendly; check in was easy. The sites are full hook up or w/e only. There are pull throughs and back-ins, 30amp and 50amp sites. Your site is assigned once you arrive. You pay a deposit when you book and pay the rest when you arrive.

They have Good Sam and weekly discounts and I was also given a cash/check discount. So our total was $51 a night for a week’s stay.

The sites toward the front are definitely more level and have better cell service, but the sites toward the back are better shaded. Cell service and wifi was enough for me to work during the week and stream at night.

The facilities could use some work. They are very old, and it’s hard to tell if they are clean or just old. Laundry is available - $2.50 a wash/$1.75 a dry.

Basically, don’t expect a beautiful vacation campground. I work full time remotely from the camper. I was able to work during the days and get to Niagara Falls, CAN, and Buffalo quickly after work. Even with the discount, which I’m thankful for, it is overpriced for what it is. But it served my needs, I felt safe, and the owner was friendly so 3 stars. With some TLC to the sites and the facilities, I’d give it 4.

    AA Royal Motel & Campground

    Good location

This campground is open year around which is really hard to find in this area. We needed to come here for personal reasons before any other campground was opened. So far this isn’t bad could be better/ cleaner.

It is 50 amp full hook up with free Wi-Fi that doesn’t suck.

The site are paved level back ins and pull throughs

The staff was nice enough. Haven’t had much interaction with him.

There is a great Italian store right across the street and Niagara Falls down the road. I would stay here in a pinch again

    Colden Lakes Resort

    Beautiful Campground

This a beautiful campground with very friendly staff. Our site was a level gravel back in site. The back in sites are very wide and roomy, the pull through sites are a little closer together. There are 4 small pristine lakes. It’s about an hour from Niagara Falls and out in the Country, very quiet and peaceful. Would definitely come back

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Beautiful place

Letchworth is absolutely stunning. The views are beautiful, however the scenic areas are at least a 10 minute drive from the campground. The park is massive.

There is a huge variation in site sizes. We lucked out and got a large site with privacy and an area for the kids to run around, however the site directly across from us was little more than the gravel pad and fire pit. Some of the sites are right on top of each other. Great for group camping, not so much if you want any privacy.

Only two out of the 8 loops (200 and 700 loops) have updated bathrooms (single toilet with handheld showers in half of the bathrooms). The others loops have older facilities with three traditional toilet stalls and two showers.

We loved our site but would’ve preferred to stay in a loop with the updated bath houses as we have younger children and a tent trailer.

All sites have electricity. Some loops are pet friendly, some are pet free. The camp store has a good selection of necessities, albeit expensive for discount brands. The pool is 4-5 miles down the road from the camping area.

    Would absolutely camp here again.

Guide to Machias

Several campgrounds near Machias, New York offer seasonal operations with varying site configurations. Most facilities maintain open seasons from May through October due to harsh winter conditions in the region. The terrain features rolling hills with elevations ranging from 1,500-2,100 feet, creating drainage challenges during spring thaw and after heavy rains.

What to do

Creek recreation access: Woodstream Campsite features direct creek access from many sites. "We had access to the creek which was neat. One of the coolest things was rafting on the creek!" reports Stephanie B., who visited during a themed weekend.

Miniature golf opportunities: Both Woodstream Campsite and Jellystone Park of Western New York offer on-site mini golf courses. According to Sara H., "Put put was free" at Jellystone, making it an economical activity option for families.

Halloween activities: Themed weekends provide structured entertainment at several parks. Amy T. notes that at Jellystone Park, "their Halloween weekends are full of fun and fright!" Most Halloween events require advance registration due to high demand.

What campers like

Water features: The water amenities at larger parks receive positive mentions. Matthew M. appreciates that Jellystone offers "water park, fishing, kayaking, swimming. It has it all." These features typically operate from late May through Labor Day weekend.

Privacy options: Site configuration varies significantly between parks. At High Pines RV Park, Tammy Rae S. enjoyed "a perfect spot in a lovely field all to myself" while noting "there's full hook ups here and I have a nice flat private spot."

Local attractions: Regional points of interest enhance camping experiences. Ryan P. highlights that High Pines "is close to the Allegheny Reservoir and the Kinzua Bridge," providing day trip options within 30-45 minutes of the campground.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Many campgrounds enforce minimum stay requirements. Miranda at Woodstream Campsite reports "Have to stay at least 2 nights," highlighting policy variations between parks.

Site differences: Quality and layout of sites can differ dramatically within the same campground. Paul G. found at Skyline RV Resort that "the map was not correct and we did not have sewer hook up at the sight. The dumping station was free or included."

Noise factors: Location relative to roadways affects ambient sound. Miranda notes at Woodstream that "traffic very loud at night," indicating proximity to traveled routes impacts some sites.

Tips for camping with families

Activity scheduling: Family-oriented campgrounds provide structured programming for children. At Jellystone, Erica L. advises "our favorite tome of year to visit is around Halloween. They always have great activities and trick or treating with the kids."

Facility expectations: Older campgrounds may have dated but functional amenities. At Woodstream, Stephanie B. found "The bathrooms are outdated, but clean. Some of the showers cost a quarter and some don't, which was peculiar."

Crowd considerations: Popular campgrounds experience capacity issues. Robyn S. cautions about Jellystone, "your kids won't be bored while staying here. There is enough to keep them entertained for days. Down side is it is very busy if your looking to relax."

Tips from RVers

Extension cord needs: Power post locations can require additional equipment. At Colden Lakes Resort, Raquel H. found "We were able to park deeper off the road due to the kindness of the owners letting us borrow an extension cord. Behind us was a field and we parked between two trees which was awesome."

Repair services: On-site maintenance assistance varies between rv campgrounds near Machias, New York. Paul G. notes that Skyline RV Resort "have a repair shop on site," a valuable amenity for mechanical issues.

Site specifications: Precise measurements matter when selecting appropriate sites. Nick O. reports about High Pines, "Our site only had 30a power. Most seem to be that way. Looks like some updates are on the way. The price was great. We will go back again but making sure it's not peak summer due to not having 50A."
