Best RV Parks & Resorts near Hornell, NY

Several RV-friendly campgrounds near Hornell provide varying accommodation options for motorhomes and travel trailers. Hickory Hill Camping Resort features 222 RV sites with electric, water, and sewer hookups, accommodating both 30-amp and 50-amp service requirements. Maple Lane RV Park in Cuba offers big-rig friendly sites with full hookup capabilities from April through October. Summer Haven provides a more intimate experience with just one RV site that includes electric, water and sewer connections. Most parks in the region feature gravel parking pads with modest spacing between units. "We got lucky and got a good site with shade but most sites are tiny and wide open. The full hookups were good, there was a concrete pad and nice fire ring in our site," noted one camper about their experience.

Finger Lakes RV Resort stands out with alcohol-permitted policies and 50-amp service for larger motorhomes, while Jones Pond Campground offers more rustic RV accommodations with limited amenities. Throughout the region, dump stations are inconsistently available—Letchworth State Park Campground provides sanitary dump facilities, but smaller parks may have improvised setups. Cell service varies considerably across the rolling terrain, with visitors reporting between 2-4 bars at most locations. Pet policies differ significantly between properties; several parks welcome pets but may charge additional fees or have breed restrictions. Fall foliage season attracts significant RV traffic to the area, making advance reservations essential during September and October. Winter camping options are limited, as most parks close between late October and early April.

    Finger Lakes RV Resort

Beautiful new spacious RV resort in excellent location.

We arrived on Saturday, 10.8.22 and are staying for a week. This is a delightful location. Rachel and Doug are cheerful, attentive, and very personable owners who are on-site at almost all times. This park just opened this year, so we checked in at an entrance building that they're using until their primary building is complete. We were greeted with delicious cookies, our site(#9) backs up to a wooded area(with a hiking path buried in there) with a lot of space. We booked early, which was a good thing because they were 100% full for Indigenous People's Day. We chose this site because there was a lot of room around it and we're used to really tightly packed RV parks. But what we found is that all of the sites are very nicely spread out with generous spacing, so that's not an issue. It's still nice to be on the outskirts. We also chose this section per a review we read to be away from the main road noise, but there really isn't much road noise to worry about, anyway. The WiFi is strong and consistent. We're using 30amps, but they also have 20 and 50amp service to each site. The water pressure is great. The bath house is new and very comfortable. Each site has a picnic table, a fire ring and lots of room for big rigs. We watched Doug neaten up sites after other RV's vacated, which shows an attention to detail we don't often find. They also drive by each site every morning to collect trash and recycling. The sunsets are spectacular over the lake(we can't see the lake from here, but it's close). There are numerous award-winning wineries surrounding us and up and down the lake. We're headed out for tastings today. We've been hiking the last few days- Watkins Glen State Park- Gorge Trail(go early or it gets REALLY crowded), Taughannock State Park- Gorge& North Ridge Trail over on Cayuga Lake, and a concert(Rufus Wainwright) at Point of the Bluff Winery over on Keuka Lake. We stopped afterward for dinner in Hammondsport at Timber Stone Grill which was truly wonderful. That's about 35- 45 minutes away. Lots more hiking trails to do in the National Forest and surrounding areas. And there's Watkins Glen, a charming town just minutes away. We highly recommend Finger Lakes RV Resort and we'll be back!

Blueberry Patch Campground — Green Mountain & Finger Lakes National Forests

    Simple

The only Finger Lakes National Forest designated campground, Blueberry Patch offers a secluded experience in the heart of this sometimes overlooked beautiful geographic region in the State of New York. This campground offers a simple experience, with fire rings and picnic tables at each site and seems to accommodate just tent and small campers. Vault toilets available. On a week day in early summer, 3 of the 9 campsites we’re occupied. Can see it filling up on weekends. Enjoy!

    Ferenbaugh Campground

    Relaxing place to stay

This CG has two distinct sections. Near the entrance is the Pull Through Area. Behind a row of trees there are several sites with full hookups including cable TV and Wi-Fi. The sites are open, reasonably level, and a good size. The other sites are in the woods, most of these sites do not have sewer connections. There is a honey wagon service available. We camped with a relative who was new and we were teaching them how to operate their camper. We had a couple of dry days then some rain. Still was a great teaching/learning experience.

Make sure you use a water filter, there was a lot of sediment in the water when we were there. See pictures of 4 days on a new cartridge.

We had a fantastic sunrise one morning.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Beautiful place

Letchworth is absolutely stunning. The views are beautiful, however the scenic areas are at least a 10 minute drive from the campground. The park is massive.

There is a huge variation in site sizes. We lucked out and got a large site with privacy and an area for the kids to run around, however the site directly across from us was little more than the gravel pad and fire pit. Some of the sites are right on top of each other. Great for group camping, not so much if you want any privacy.

Only two out of the 8 loops (200 and 700 loops) have updated bathrooms (single toilet with handheld showers in half of the bathrooms). The others loops have older facilities with three traditional toilet stalls and two showers.

We loved our site but would’ve preferred to stay in a loop with the updated bath houses as we have younger children and a tent trailer.

All sites have electricity. Some loops are pet friendly, some are pet free. The camp store has a good selection of necessities, albeit expensive for discount brands. The pool is 4-5 miles down the road from the camping area.

    Would absolutely camp here again.

    Leonard Harrison State Park Campground

Site 17 Site maps can be deceptive

General: This is a small 28-site campground located on the east rim of the canyon; seven of the sites are electric and six of them are pet-friendly. We reserved site 17 after looking at the site map because it looked like there was a generous amount of separation between this site and the surrounding ones, however, upon arrival, this was not the case. Although some of the sites are generous in size, there is no physical separation between them. Site 1 would, in my opinion, be the best of the non-electric sites for privacy. Sites 6 and 8, while close to the bathhouse, would likely have people walking through your site to get to the bathhouse. Campers have worn a path between these sites to access it. Props to this park for having recycling bins for plastic, glass, and aluminum. While this park is open year-round, the campground is only open from the second Friday in April through the third weekend in October.

Site Quality: The parking pad is delineated by rocks but not very clearly defined. There is a generously sized picnic table and fire ring to complete the grassy site.

Bathhouse: Very clean (we have found most Pennsylvania state parks excel in their bathhouse cleanliness). Hot water (definitely appreciated on this cold weekend!) and one handicap accessible shower (but it was too cold while we were there to want to take a shower although it did look inviting).

Activities: Two hiking trails on the east rim where the campground is located. The Turkey Path was closed about ¾ mile down (by the waterfall) due to storm damage. Although the trail was clearly marked closed at this point, many chose to ignore it and continue on☹. This trail is challenging as it has steep switchbacks down and back up again and it is narrow and slippery but definitely worth doing. The Overlook Trail, while not long (less than a mile), is also challenging with down and uphills. If you don’t want to (or can’t) access these trails, there is an observation platform where you can enjoy great views of the canyon. All of these trails are accessible from the campground. There is also a long multi-use trail for hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing. There is a nice playground accessible from the campground.

Conclusion: We were here the last weekend the campground was open and while the fall foliage was not experiencing the best year, it was still very beautiful at this park, and we enjoyed the hikes.

Jellystone Park™ of Western New York

Camping resort in the middle of nowhere

There was a great WiFi connection, so it was difficult to get my boys to go explore! We have a 35 foot travel trailer and had zero difficulty backing into a W/E spot. Gravel pads, decent space between RVs. We did need our extra hose to reach our spigot but I think that was unusual. The dump station was easy to get to and clean when we left.

Playgrounds, beach, mini-golf, dog park, bounce pillow, basketball, volleyball, movie nights, wagon rides twice a day with Jellystone characters, lots of daily activities, water park, kayaks, SUP’s, canoes, LIFEGUARDS!... ALL INCLUDED. My kids did mini-golf 4 times. Snack bar (with good wings and delivers!). Golf cart rentals. What was I most impressed with? Trash pickup. You put it in front of your site, somebody picked it up. Any time of day.

There were three types of cabins I saw, but didn’t go inside. You could fish in the pond. The website says Laser Tag but we didn’t explore that far. The town is teeny tiny so no good grocery store around. The grounds were well kept. Niagara Falls were a little more than an hour away. Great day trip!

We we will come back next year and bring our cousins!

Guide to Hornell

The Finger Lakes region where Hornell sits ranges from 950 to 2,000 feet in elevation with rolling hills and valleys formed by glacial activity. Camping options around Hornell feature diverse terrain with several parks situated alongside lakes and ponds. Fall camping season typically runs late September through mid-October with daytime temperatures averaging 60-70°F and nighttime lows in the 40s.

What to do

Waterfall exploration: 35-45 minutes from most Hornell campgrounds. Letchworth State Park Campground features multiple waterfalls within a 17-mile stretch. "The gorge is spectacular. Try to get to the balloon fest on Memorial Day - and book a flight if you can. Voted Best State Park in the USA," notes Rebecca E.

Vineyard visits: Walking paths available from select parks. Finger Lakes RV Resort offers direct access to local wineries. "They are bookended by two wineries with walking paths from the campground," shares Craig F. "Easy drive to Watkins Glen, Lake Seneca, Ithaca, and the greater Finger Lakes region," adds Matt S.

Fishing: Catfish commonly caught in local ponds. Jones Pond Campground provides shoreline access for anglers. "These sites are great for camping, kayaking, fishing (plenty of catfish!), and watching loons, herons, and bald eagles," according to Madison W.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Bathroom quality varies significantly between parks. Campers consistently praise the maintenance at several RV campgrounds near Hornell. "The bath house is immaculate and rivals those at Fort Wilderness Resort," notes Craig F. about Finger Lakes RV Resort. Madison W. mentions Jones Pond Campground has "two backwoods privies in the campground."

Spacious sites: Site dimensions vary between parks. Several campgrounds offer larger-than-average sites. "The campground sites are very large and spread out," writes Steve A. "Being a newer campground, the trees are small, but that did not take away from the experience."

Seasonal activities: Special events typically run May-October. Jellystone Park of Western New York hosts holiday-themed weekends. "Our favorite time of year to visit is around Halloween. They always have great activities and trick or treating with the kids," mentions Erica L. Another camper adds, "We went on the 4th of July and they had amazing fireworks and activities galore for the kids."

What you should know

Wi-Fi quality: Signal strength varies by location. Some parks offer reliable connectivity while others have minimal service. "Excellent Wi-Fi, large sites, level and graveled parking pad," reports Kathleen R. at Finger Lakes RV Resort. Another camper confirms, "Wifi was strong enough to do work calls."

Site accessibility: Vehicle clearance matters at select parks. Jones Pond Campground requires appropriate vehicles for certain sites. "You will need a high clearance vehicle to access site 3-6 due to a rough, poorly maintained jeep road," warns Madison W.

Reservation timing: Fall foliage increases demand. Letchworth State Park fills quickly during peak seasons. "This is a popular park so make reservations," advises Amber A. "We checked in at an entrance building that they're using until their primary building is complete. We were greeted with delicious cookies, our site(#9) backs up to a wooded area with a lot of space. We booked early, which was a good thing because they were 100% full for Indigenous People's Day," notes Steve A.

Tips for camping with families

Activity selection: Consider age-appropriate options. Hickory Hill Camping Resort offers numerous included amenities. "There is a lot to do at Hickory Hill and everything is included in your site fee. They have multiple pools, a sprayground, mini golf, crafts, clean bathrooms and dog stations throughout the grounds," says Amy T.

Entertainment planning: Check campground schedules. Jellystone Park provides entertainment for different age groups. "What are the best things about this National Park is that you feel like you were in a Yogi Bear show although there is still a ton of beautiful nature to enjoy," states Jill R. "Put put was free. So many things to do with the kids. Heated pools. Beach was clean," adds Sara H.

Park facilities: Look for family-friendly amenities. Letchworth State Park offers diverse recreational options. "Within a short walk were many hiking trails, an old-school fitness path, and a stellar playground where anyone under 9 years of age should get a great workout," shares Shari G.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: Many parks offer different levels of privacy. Some RV campgrounds near Hornell have varying site layouts. "Getting into the site was a challenge, but doable with a 16 foot Basecamp. Had we been staying for more than one night, or arrived earlier we would have loved to utilize their fire ring!" notes Larry about Summer Haven.

Hookup verification: Check amperage and water availability. Summer Haven has limited connections. "This early in the season water was not available, but electricity was. The owners description noted a 50 amp hookup which was available, but 30 amp was not. They did have a 120v surge protector on site," reports Larry.

Seasonal planning: Many parks close for winter. Finger Lakes Campground typically operates May through October. "Roomy sites. We had a great view of the pond, which made for some breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. Swimming pool and small laundry on site. Not all sites have sewer hookups, but there is a dump station on site, as well as a pump service available if you prefer," shares Linda H.
