Four Mile Creek State Park Campground

    lakeside camping

We our family of 5 tent camped on site 155 & 157. The sites were right next to the bathrooms/showers/laundry. The bathrooms were very clean. The showers had 2 separate privacy shower curtains and a bench to put your things in the shower stall. It was 2.25 to wash clothes. There were 2 water fountains outside the bath house. The sites were very quiet and shaded. It was short driving distance to Niagara Falls and our NY state park pass got us free parking at Niagara Falls State Park during our stay. We watched the sun set on Lake Ontario. It was a beautiful place to stay!

    Horrible Customer Service

I would like to start off by saying this was our first time visiting the Medina Wildwood Koa and unfortunately it will have to be our last. Our camp ground it’s self was great. Lots of space, a picnic bench, a fire pit, a grill and even a lake you can fish/rent boats to go on right behind us!

There were many different ways to keep busy and have fun. We were able to float in tubes at the creek, go swimming, rent a peddle boat, play at the playground, rent a golf cart, and jump on a big jumping pillow. And I must say the bathrooms were pristine and air conditioned! Loved that!!

The major problem with this campground is the very rude people. Not only was the customer service absolutely horrible and spoke to not only adults but also children in a very rude harsh way making us ALL feel incompetent/uneducated but the regulars at this campground are just as rude and disrespectful. How can you ever feel welcome or want to come back to a campground with staff saying things like: “You must not know how to read” and clearing there throats very loudly with their arms crossed before telling us other things we may have been doing wrong very sarcastically.

I do admit that we did do some things the wrong way and as soon as we found out or saw on our own we corrected them. It’s just not something I would ever want to endure again especially since my kids feelings were hurt the most and this was ment for them to have fun.

Four Mile Creek State Park Campground

    Field Camping

It's not all bad! It took a while to find our site in the dark as site markers are small. The sites are decent size, the bathrooms are clean but spiders will hang out. Showers are hot. Sites are available with electric and there is an RV dump station if you have one. There are a lot of RVs at this campground, a large playground, and a field with soccer goals (no net). Niagara Falls is 15 or so miles away, and Buffalo NY is a short drive. The bathroom building has an outdoor sink with heated water, and this is also where the trash bins are.  Firewood is available in front of many nearby homes (a couple of miles, max,and $4-5 a bundle). The fire pits are either low or leaning, so we found a camp stove to be essential. It can get quite windy, we saw a tent buckle and our stakes were pulled up from the wind. It can get loud at night and it doesn't seem as if quiet hours are enforced. I'd stay again but only if a more private campground was unavailable.

    Niagaras Lazy Lakes Camping Resort

    Clean & Friendly

We have camped here several times. Bathrooms are very clean along with the showers. They are cleaned on a daily basis. Store on site has just the bare amenities. Big clubhouse, 2 heated pools and a pond to fish (catch & release). Sites are big. Pet friendly. Staff are very friendly. 10-15 minutes from Niagara Falls and close to stores. It does have 2 on site laundry facilities but the dryers take a while. Enjoy going there.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Unexpected Surroundings

In most states, those without falls like Niagara, this state park would be the pride of the land. With three serious drops in as many miles, the Genesse River winds it’s way through what locals call the “Grand Canyon of the East.” Many states try to make such claims, but this might be the closest any come to actually living up to such. It is stunning!

Along the river this park gives the motorist the distinct feel that she is on a parkway, not unlike Shenendoah, or Blue Ridge. Every few miles the winding pavement breaks out onto a few of the ridges and valley below, before ducking back into the forest of Western New York.

The campground, which is about 15 miles from the major falls area, offers what many come to expect from state parks. There are a wide variety of campsites, all reservable online, which can accommodate lots of different types of camping, large RV’s, small tents, and everything in between. Most, if not all, campsites offer electrical and water is available close by.

The bathrooms are practically luxurious by most camping standards, with single-use restroom/ showers available at all hours. The camp store offered a few grocery items, along with cold drinks, firewood and ice in addition to laundry facilities. Within a short walk were many hiking trails, an old-school fitness path, and a stellar playground where anyone under 9 years of age should get a great workout.

But let’s be honest, we’re not coming here for the campground, it’s the rest of the park that makes the drive worth it. So, check it out and get to know this stunning place first hand and be sure to bring a picnic basket.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Amazing state park, crappy campground

The state park is breathtaking. The campground is horrendous. The restrooms were disgusting. The site barely fit our one tent (8man Coleman) even though it was advertised as a two tent site. The camp fire ring had no solid base- it just sat on the grass and fires would not stay lit. The quiet hours were not enforced. Yelling and loud music kept us up until ridiculous hours. I would not rate this as family friendly.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Beautiful place

Letchworth is absolutely stunning. The views are beautiful, however the scenic areas are at least a 10 minute drive from the campground. The park is massive.

There is a huge variation in site sizes. We lucked out and got a large site with privacy and an area for the kids to run around, however the site directly across from us was little more than the gravel pad and fire pit. Some of the sites are right on top of each other. Great for group camping, not so much if you want any privacy.

Only two out of the 8 loops (200 and 700 loops) have updated bathrooms (single toilet with handheld showers in half of the bathrooms). The others loops have older facilities with three traditional toilet stalls and two showers.

We loved our site but would’ve preferred to stay in a loop with the updated bath houses as we have younger children and a tent trailer.

All sites have electricity. Some loops are pet friendly, some are pet free. The camp store has a good selection of necessities, albeit expensive for discount brands. The pool is 4-5 miles down the road from the camping area.

    Would absolutely camp here again.

    Golden Hill State Park Campground

    Quiet Campground Over Lake Ontario

We camped at Golden Hill over the weekend of July 24-26, 2020. Due to COVID, advance reservations are required to book a spot at any NY state campground. We had site 47 in loop C, which was across the road from the lake view sites. I recommend sites 40-45 for lake-front views. Loops A and B were more crowded and more suitable to RV trailers and rigs (we were camping in a pop-up camper). Site 47 was large and had a few trees. The campfire ring was right against the pad, which made it difficult to position our pop-up so that it was away from the fire ring.

Things to consider: There are 2 bathrooms in the campground, one near the A-B loops and one near the entrance. It was quite a hike in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom from our site. Some sites in the A-B loops are right next to each other, and we preferred the space for the sites in the C loop.

Wonderful things: The views are spectacular, particularly at sunset. The campground was quiet at night. The Niagara Wine trail is close to this campground, and Niagara Falls is about a 50 minute drive away. We hiked Devil's Hole and Whirlpool State Parks on this camping trip. The showers in the bathrooms were phenomenal - very clean with hot water and a private dressing area next to the shower. Showers were ADA compliant and had shower seats.

The area sits in the Lake Ontario Plain at approximately 513 feet elevation with humid continental climate conditions featuring warm summers and cold, snowy winters. Most campgrounds in this region operate seasonally from May through October, closing during the winter months when temperatures typically drop below freezing.

What to do

Hiking trails and natural areas: Four Mile Creek State Park Campground offers multiple hiking options with views of Lake Ontario. "The camping loop roads were nicely paved and great for bike-riding. The lake was simply beautiful, and you can even see the Toronto skyline on a clear day," notes a visitor who stayed at site #79.

Disc golf courses: Darien Lakes State Park features a well-maintained course for disc golf enthusiasts. "There is a fairly new Frisbee golf course as well. This campground would be a good alternative to paying the high prices to stay at the theme park down the road," explains one regular camper.

Swimming and water activities: Timberline Lake Park provides access to a small lake where guests can fish or rent boats. "This is a great spot! It's really quiet and you can really feel like you're getting away out here. Their little cabins are really cute and not too expensive too!" shares a summer visitor.

Historical lighthouse tours: Golden Hill State Park Campground features the historic Thirty Mile Lighthouse which can be toured during your stay. "The old lighthouse is a beautiful building, and the grounds in general are super well kept," reports one camper who particularly enjoyed the waterfront location.

What campers like

Spacious, private sites: Webster Park receives praise for its site layouts and privacy. "Clean well spaced sites, Special deals for the park if you stay in the campground. Campers and cabins to rent," explains one reviewer who gave the park high marks.

Modern bathroom facilities: Letchworth State Park Campground maintains clean bathroom facilities for campers. "The bathrooms are practically luxurious by most camping standards, with single-use restroom/showers available at all hours," explains one reviewer, who also noted the camp store offers essential supplies.

Yurt camping options: For those interested in yurt camping near Holley, New York, several parks offer these accommodations. At Golden Hill State Park, yurts provide comfortable shelter with Lake Ontario views. One visitor mentions the park has "Yurts here that can be rented" providing an alternative to traditional tent or RV camping.

Kid-friendly amenities: Southwoods RV Resort caters to families with multiple facilities. "2 well kept pools, playgrounds, laundry facilities, mini golf, soccer, basketball. The employees are so helpful and nice! We enjoyed our stays and will be back," shares a satisfied guest.

What you should know

Seasonal operation: Most campgrounds in the Holley area operate from early May through mid-October. Letchworth State Park's season runs "May 6 to October 16" while Southwoods RV Resort operates from "May 1 to October 31."

Reservation requirements: During peak summer months, advance booking is essential. "This is a popular park so make reservations," advises one Letchworth visitor, particularly for weekend stays when occupancy reaches capacity.

Wildlife encounters: Be prepared for typical northeastern woodland wildlife. "In most states, those without falls like Niagara, this state park would be the pride of the land. With three serious drops in as many miles, the Genesse River winds its way through what locals call the 'Grand Canyon of the East,'" explains a visitor to Letchworth.

Variable cell service: Four Mile Creek State Park Campground and surrounding areas have inconsistent coverage. One Webster Park visitor notes: "Cell phone coverage is poor by Verizon and T-Mobile, and there is no WiFi, and no camp store (but the town of Webster is nearby)."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Consider sites near recreation areas for easier supervision. At Webster Park, one visitor recommends: "We stay close to the playground these days in our pop up usually at site 5 so our 5 and 9 year old can walk or ride to campground. We like site 1 as well."

Educational opportunities: Six Flags Darien Lake Campground combines entertainment with camping. "The campground itself is pretty and well kept. Some sites are a little tight, but most people aren't there to camp, they're going to the park or a concert, or both," explains one visitor who found it convenient for families.

Budget-friendly options: State parks offer lower rates than private facilities. Darien Lakes State Park provides an economical alternative as "This campground would be a good alternative to paying the high prices to stay at the theme park down the road."

Safety considerations: Most campgrounds feature family-friendly layouts. Webster Park is described as "very quiet and very kid friendly to allow them to walk around and ride or scooter the loop alone," making it suitable for families with young children.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: At Sleepy Hollow Lake Campground, experienced RVers recommend checking site details carefully. "We had a lake front spot but our electricity didn't work. When I called they said someone would come check it 'later'. We didn't have power for our short visit," warns one camper.

Hookup availability: Southwoods RV Resort offers various hookup configurations. "The campground is quite large and has separate sections for seasonal and transient campers and has a variety of different campsites from back-ins to pull-thrus, 50 to 30-amps, and full hook-up to water and electric only," explains a visitor who appreciated the well-organized layout.

Access roads: Most area campgrounds feature paved roads suitable for larger rigs. At Sleepy Hollow, "Roads paved throughout, great laundry facilities, lots for kids, cabins available. clean friendly campground," according to a recent visitor.

Noise considerations: Six Flags Darien Lake Campground can be louder than other options. One camper notes it "was good if you're planning to go to a concert or the park. It was loud and not very relaxing," suggesting those seeking quieter surroundings should consider alternatives.
