Best RV Parks & Resorts near Gowanda, NY

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Several RV parks are located within 30 miles of Gowanda in western New York. Jellystone Park of Western New York in North Java provides 229 RV sites with full hookups including 50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections. Maple Lane RV Park in Cuba features big-rig-friendly pull-through rv pads with 50-amp electrical service from April through October. Evangola State Park Campground offers motorhome sites with 30/50-amp hookups and provides dump station access, though the RV area has limited privacy between sites. Colden Lakes Resort near Colden accommodates both large and small rigs with full hookup sites. "We were able to park deeper off the road due to the kindness of the owners letting us borrow an extension cord. Behind us was a field and we parked between two trees which was awesome."

Most RV parks in the region operate seasonally, typically closing from late October through April due to harsh winter conditions. East Otto State Forest provides a primitive alternative without hookups for self-contained units, though recent reviews indicate mixed conditions for larger vehicles. Dump stations are available at most established campgrounds including Evangola State Park and Willow Bay Recreation Area. Cell service varies significantly throughout the region's valleys and forested areas. Pet policies differ between facilities, with most allowing dogs but implementing leash requirements. Navigation to some parks involves narrow county roads with occasional low bridges that may restrict access for taller motorhomes. When planning visits during summer months, advance reservations are strongly recommended as weekend availability becomes limited, particularly at parks offering amenities like swimming pools and organized activities.

    Evangola State Park Campground

Some Sites Have a View of Lake Erie

    Unfortunately, my site did not.

However, my site wasn't crowded and the electricity was reliable. This campground has three loops. One has 30 amp power, one has 50 amp power (with a 30 amp outlet on the same pedestal) and the third loop is for tent camping. There are several places to get water in the camp, so be sure to fill up your tanks before you park. There is a dump station. None of the sites are full hook up.

Each site has a picnic table and a grill.

There are two bath houses. The newer one - between loops one and three - also has laundry facilities.

Your payment for your campsite entitles you to admission to the beach, which is a hike or a drive away.

    Cinderella Motel & Campsite

Basic, Convenient, VFM (value for money)

This campground is very basic with very close campsites.  The bathhouse and laundry are old but clean.  The staff were very friendly and helpful.  It is very close to Niagara falls and for the money it is the best campground here.  KOA and Branches CGs are nicer but they are also triple the price which for us did not seem worth it.  We were in a back in gravel site that backed up to the motel which may not seem that nice but the electric, water and sewer worked perfectly.  Our 40 foot MH and Toad fit with room to spare.  There were sites that were on the outskirts of the property that backed to the woods which some people may prefer.  Those sites were just as close although there were several that would take big rigs bit don't expect to open your awnings in most sites.   There is a nice grassy area in the center with a small covered pavilion.   There are a few sites on the side/front of Motel.  We were here to visit Niagara Falls so location and a basic campground with full hookups was all we were looking for and this campground fit our needs perfectly.  We would stay here again.

    Darien Lakes State Park Campground

    Clean/Quiet Campground

9/25-9/29/22- The park was nearly empty, perhaps 6 or 8 other campers widely spread out. It was immaculate and the sites well spaced apart. All site have a picnic table and fire pit. Ours had both 30A and 50A power, was pretty level left/right but about 6” high in front before we leveled our 34’ fifth wheel. The park has drinking water faucets at a variety of places throughout, but site#15 has a faucet directly next to it, so we had water available too. Both AT&T 4G and Verizon 5G had 3 bars reception. The dump station was clean and convenient. It looked like a great place for kids that included at least one (probably more) playground.

    AA Royal Motel & Campground

An old campsite that fits our needs

This is not a resort campground nor is it a campground built for escapism. It’s very close to Niagara Falls, the Rainbow Bridge (for driving into Canada), and Buffalo, NY.

Mike is very friendly; check in was easy. The sites are full hook up or w/e only. There are pull throughs and back-ins, 30amp and 50amp sites. Your site is assigned once you arrive. You pay a deposit when you book and pay the rest when you arrive.

They have Good Sam and weekly discounts and I was also given a cash/check discount. So our total was $51 a night for a week’s stay.

The sites toward the front are definitely more level and have better cell service, but the sites toward the back are better shaded. Cell service and wifi was enough for me to work during the week and stream at night.

The facilities could use some work. They are very old, and it’s hard to tell if they are clean or just old. Laundry is available - $2.50 a wash/$1.75 a dry.

Basically, don’t expect a beautiful vacation campground. I work full time remotely from the camper. I was able to work during the days and get to Niagara Falls, CAN, and Buffalo quickly after work. Even with the discount, which I’m thankful for, it is overpriced for what it is. But it served my needs, I felt safe, and the owner was friendly so 3 stars. With some TLC to the sites and the facilities, I’d give it 4.

    Buckaloons

    Roomy and wooded

We come here at least once per summer. It is very family friendly, pet friendly and just beautiful. If you kayak, you can drop in up in Warren and come in right at the campground. Ice and wood available on site. Dollar general close by just in case.

    AA Royal Motel & Campground

    Good location

This campground is open year around which is really hard to find in this area. We needed to come here for personal reasons before any other campground was opened. So far this isn’t bad could be better/ cleaner.

It is 50 amp full hook up with free Wi-Fi that doesn’t suck.

The site are paved level back ins and pull throughs

The staff was nice enough. Haven’t had much interaction with him.

There is a great Italian store right across the street and Niagara Falls down the road. I would stay here in a pinch again

    Colden Lakes Resort

    Beautiful Campground

This a beautiful campground with very friendly staff. Our site was a level gravel back in site. The back in sites are very wide and roomy, the pull through sites are a little closer together. There are 4 small pristine lakes. It’s about an hour from Niagara Falls and out in the Country, very quiet and peaceful. Would definitely come back

Jellystone Park™ of Western New York

Camping resort in the middle of nowhere

There was a great WiFi connection, so it was difficult to get my boys to go explore! We have a 35 foot travel trailer and had zero difficulty backing into a W/E spot. Gravel pads, decent space between RVs. We did need our extra hose to reach our spigot but I think that was unusual. The dump station was easy to get to and clean when we left.

Playgrounds, beach, mini-golf, dog park, bounce pillow, basketball, volleyball, movie nights, wagon rides twice a day with Jellystone characters, lots of daily activities, water park, kayaks, SUP’s, canoes, LIFEGUARDS!... ALL INCLUDED. My kids did mini-golf 4 times. Snack bar (with good wings and delivers!). Golf cart rentals. What was I most impressed with? Trash pickup. You put it in front of your site, somebody picked it up. Any time of day.

There were three types of cabins I saw, but didn’t go inside. You could fish in the pond. The website says Laser Tag but we didn’t explore that far. The town is teeny tiny so no good grocery store around. The grounds were well kept. Niagara Falls were a little more than an hour away. Great day trip!

We we will come back next year and bring our cousins!

Guide to Gowanda

Western New York's public and private camping facilities near Gowanda operate within the region's distinct seasonal pattern. The area sits at approximately 820 feet elevation and experiences heavy lake effect snow during winter months. Most campsites close by late October due to snow accumulation potential, with seasonal reopening typically occurring in April or May when ground conditions stabilize.

What to do

Swimming and water activities: Jellystone Park of Western New York provides multiple water recreation options. "They made recent addition as that are awesome. The added a new section of premium sites (pull-thru and back-in), the added a beach to their pond and allow swimming." Activities include fishing, kayaking, and pool access with recent expansions.

Hiking nearby trails: The North Country Trail passes less than a mile from Willow Bay Recreation Area sites. "These sites are less than a mile from the North Country Trail. Other, smaller trails are here as well. The New York State lone is less than five miles away- providing access to Allegheny State Park."

Fourth of July celebrations: Holiday weekends feature special events at several campgrounds. "We went on the 4th of July and they had amazing fireworks and activities galore for the kids. I would recommend this place to anyone."

Primitive camping options: For those seeking less developed sites, public lands provide alternatives to commercial campgrounds. "Nice campground, free, fishing, secluded, everyone needs to start picking up their trash though."

What campers like

Quiet weekday stays: Many campgrounds become significantly less crowded midweek. "Stayed one night on a long drive. Beautiful views of lake. Amazing grassy fields right by campsites. Full park but still quiet with good spacing between outer ring spots."

Off-season camping: Lower occupancy during shoulder seasons provides more privacy at Lake Erie State Park Campground. "This was one of the best campgrounds in the state, especially in the off season."

Clean facilities: Regular maintenance keeps shower and bathroom facilities usable. "The facilities in the campground are very good (relatively new bath house with nice clean showers). The campsites are a good size although most have no natural shade or privacy."

Organized activities: Family-focused entertainment provides structured recreation options. "What are the best things about this National Park is that you feel like you were in a Yogi Bear show although there is still a ton of beautiful nature to enjoy the novelty of Yogi Bear is always around."

What you should know

Cell service limitations: Communication connectivity varies significantly. "There is no cel service here, and you shouldn't need it either." Many campgrounds in valleys have limited to no reception, requiring advance planning.

Reservation requirements: Weekend availability becomes extremely limited during summer months. "We stayed at Evangola must have been a prime camping time because the campground was quiet busy!"

Bathroom conditions: Facility quality varies between campgrounds. "The reason this was 4/5 is because you have to unload the car then walk everything to the camp. There is no drive up access for tent camping. A wagon is highly encouraged. Additionally, vault toilets on the tent side and plumbing and showers on the RV side."

Seasonal weather impacts: Temperature fluctuations affect comfort levels in primitive sites and cabins. "The cabins were small- one twin bed and a set of single bunks. You need to bring your own sheets. There is a small heater imbedded in the wall. It keeps things from getting too cold, as it was when I was there."

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly campgrounds: East Otto State Forest offers more space for children to explore safely. "We went for a quick weekend trip with 3 people and 4 dogs. What a great spot! We were nice and secluded, which was great for the dogs to run around, be safe, and not bother other campers."

Entertainment options: Consider facilities with structured activities for rainy days. "your kids won't be bored while staying here. There is enough to keep them entertained for days. Down side is it is very busy if your looking to relax."

Halloween events: Special themed weekends provide unique experiences. "our favorite tome of year to cisit is around Halloween. They always have great activities and trick or treating with the kids."

Playground access: Not all campgrounds provide play equipment. "The beach was not close to our campsite but I drove there before checking out and walked the dog again. It was a rocky walk along the sand but a beautiful area with a playground."

Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: RV parks Gowanda, New York area offer varying levels of services. Skyline RV Resort provides full hookups but has layout inconsistencies. "Great campground, a little tight if you like to spread out. The map was not correct and we did not have sewer hook up at the sight. The dumping station was free or included."

Site leveling challenges: Many campgrounds require additional equipment for stabilizing RVs. "The fresh water spigot was at the end of our driveway, which is on a slight incline. A couple of extra tongue blocks would've been useful since the site slopes in the front and at the back."

Water fill procedures: Maple Lane RV Park and other campgrounds near Gowanda require specific procedures for water hookups. "The water hookups are NOT at each site, but there is one CLOSE to each site, so you can run your house over, fill your tank, and disconnect."

Extension cord requirements: Some sites require additional power cable length. "Surprised! First of all, the Hemlock loop has literally zero Verizon coverage. If you walk up to the entrance of the loop, you'll get 2 bars. We're staying at Willow Bay again in a few weeks, but in the Aspen Loop."
