Best Campgrounds near Fairport, NY

Campgrounds near Fairport, New York range from developed state parks to family-friendly private resorts, with many offering both tent and RV accommodations. Webster Park, located about 10 miles north of Fairport near Lake Ontario, provides electric hookups, picnic tables, and a central playground in a wooded setting. The Rochester-Canandaigua KOA offers full-service RV sites with 50-amp hookups, plus cabin options for those seeking more comfort. Several campgrounds in the Finger Lakes region provide mixed-use facilities accommodating everything from primitive tent camping to luxury glamping experiences, with The PineApple Farm and Stay Bristol Woodlands offering cabin rentals in more natural settings.

Most campgrounds in the area operate seasonally from April or May through October, with peak season running from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Monroe County Webster Park maintains well-marked trails through wooded areas that remain accessible during camping season, while sites along Lake Ontario offer swimming and boating opportunities during summer months. Reservations are strongly recommended for weekend stays, especially at state parks like Hamlin Beach and Letchworth, which fill quickly during peak season. Winter camping is largely unavailable in this region due to harsh weather conditions and seasonal closures. According to one camper, "Webster Park family campground is a smaller single loop with sites for tents, small trailers, larger trailers, and motor homes. The difference is 30A power with no water or sewer, 50A power and water, or 50A power with water/sewer."

Campers report high satisfaction with state park facilities like Letchworth State Park, often called "the Grand Canyon of the East" for its dramatic gorge views. The campgrounds typically feature clean restrooms with shower facilities, though amenities vary widely between state-operated and private campgrounds. Several visitors mentioned that while state parks offer better natural settings, they typically provide fewer hookups than private resorts. A reviewer noted that "the campground side doesn't open until around 11 we were told," highlighting the importance of checking specific operating hours when planning arrival times. Fairport's central location provides convenient access to multiple camping regions, including Lake Ontario shoreline to the north, the Finger Lakes to the south, and numerous mixed-use campgrounds within a 30-minute drive of town.

Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill

    Inexpensive, Peaceful.

I've stayed here on 3 separate occasions, twice in RV 12 and once in RV 6.

I used the 30 AMP hookup and had zero issues.

Beautiful playground for my son to enjoy and meet other kiddos. Deer, chipmunks and rabbits will say hi in the early and late hours.

    Large dumpsters near entrance.

Dump stations are present, but I haven't used them yet.

Potable water is present at a small spigot.

The washrooms facility is very close and speaking for the men's side, it had 2 stalls, 2 urinals, 2 showers, multiple sinks, and a sturdy baby changing station.

Hiking trails with gorgeous views of the valley within a 5 min walk of my campsite.

    Hamlin Beach State Park Campground

    Relaxing 2 weeks

The camp store is closed along with no firewood and no laundry.

We stayed for 2 weeks and it was so relaxing. We loved biking through the loops and by the beach at the park. There was live music at the park during the week. The campground has an activity room full of things to do. As a state park, there are a lot of different people with different values, so be ready for the occasional obnoxious family. Our site was secluded and in the pines. We love it here and will definitely do this again!

    Stay Bristol Woodlands

    Well maintained and friendly Staff!

Campground is adorable, you can see a lot of other campers, but the spots are spaced out. Showers were nice, didn’t get to try the pool out as it was a quick stopover, but this seems like a fun place to spend some time

Bluff Camping Area — Fair Haven Beach State Park

Shaded camping with Great Lake access

I booked this site for one night and ended up staying three. Trying to avoid the heat, I was relieved that the shaded electric camping area staved off most of the days heat. I was in site 63 the first night and 68 the other two. 63 has more shade but 68 is right next to the bathroom and water spout if that’s important. I was able to find shade.

Some people may find the sites too close together, I didn’t mind since I’m solo camping and feel a bit of safety with closer neighbors. The loop was majority RVs and campers but it was still quiet all night and until late morning.

The showers and bathrooms are mostly clean and well stocked and there is a dedicated sink outside the building for dishes.

What I really loved is how far into the park the camping is, you’re really surrounded by woods. There is also excellent and easy access to Lake Ontario.

The park store has firewood, ice, and lots of other items like corn hole for rent. There is also a small boat shanty for boat rentals.

    SutterCreek Campground

    Close to the Ren Fest.

Sutter Creek is a 4 minute drive to the Renaissance Festival. The camp was very quiet and the owners were friendly and helpful. The activity room is for seasonal people only. The showers get locked at night, so prepare to showers in the AM. There are swings and a tether ball for the kids. Golf carts look to be welcome there, but it's not that big.

    Six Flags Darien Lake Campground

    Great family recreation spot

Obviously being connected to Six flags is a fun family stop, but every part of the camping experience is treated with attention to detail and great services. We needed help with our water heater in our own RV and the camp team sent over a mechanic to sort it out within minutes. Free of charge. Good people nice natural and spacious sites and fun for the family

Winter camping options are limited, with most facilities operating from April through October due to harsh weather conditions and seasonal closures.

What to do

Hiking trails in Webster Park: The campground offers numerous trails through wooded areas for day hikes. According to one camper, "There is hiking in the park, lots of nice woods, big field for playing games/sports. It's close to town and home for us." Another visitor notes that Webster Park has "nice central playground and bathroom/shower house" making it ideal for families who enjoy outdoor recreation.

Lake Ontario swimming access: Hamlin Beach State Park Campground provides access to both rocky and sandy shorelines. A visitor reports, "Between Buffalo/Niagara Falls and Rochester on Lake Ontario, this park gives you a rocky and a sandy shoreline with gentle waves to lull you to sleep." The park also offers "excellent birding on site and in nearby Braddock Bay."

Fishing opportunities: Smaller bodies of water near camping areas provide additional recreation options. At Hamlin Beach State Park, "Not only is there great fishing off the piers into Lake Ontario but there is a pond easily accessed for most to fish for trout, bass, and other fresh water species. During the fall there is a huge salmon run where fish up to 30 lbs are caught regularly."

Privacy between sites: At Monroe County Webster Park, campers appreciate the space between campsites. One reviewer states, "The sites are large and accommodating. It's clean, and that you have more privacy than other sites I've been to." Another camper notes that Webster Park has "sites mostly level, others a bit uneven. Sites are spacious, however specific to size of camper."

What you should know

Limited cell service: Some campgrounds have spotty connectivity. At Canandaigua-Rochester KOA, campers should prepare for potentially limited service. At Webster Park, one camper noted "cell phone coverage is poor by Verizon and T-Mobile, and there is no WiFi, and no camp store (but the town of Webster is nearby)."

Kid-friendly layout: Webster Park features a layout conducive to families with young children. A frequent visitor explains, "We stay close to the playground these days in our pop up usually at site 5 so our 5 and 9 year old can walk or ride to campground. We like site 1 as well. We stay on the outer ring on that side of loop as it gives access to the woods and trails behind the sites."

Swimming options: Multiple campgrounds offer swimming facilities. At Junius Ponds, one visitor mentions a "well maintained-non heated pool although costs $2 per person to use even for campers." Hamlin Beach provides lake swimming with lifeguards during summer months.

Tips from RVers

Various parks offer different levels of services - some with water and electric only, others with full sewer hookups.

Site leveling challenges: Prepare for potentially uneven terrain at some locations. At Webster Park, a visitor noted differences in sites: "It is a smaller single loop campground with sites for tents/small trailers, larger trailers, and motor homes. He difference is 30a power and no water or sewer, 50a power and water, and 50a power and water/sewer."

Length of hoses needed: Some campsites require longer hoses to reach hookups. One camper at Webster Park advised, "You need a long hose for fresh water in the RV. No sewer sites." Planning ahead with proper equipment makes setup easier at campgrounds with varied hookup placements.
