Campgrounds surrounding Sodus Point, New York span from Lake Ontario's shoreline to the Finger Lakes region, with options ranging from tent sites and RV hookups to cabin rentals. South Shore RV Park in Sodus Point offers year-round camping with tent sites, RV hookups, and cabin accommodations. Lake Bluff RV Park and Fair Haven Beach State Park campgrounds feature mixed-use facilities approximately 15 miles east, with options for tents, RVs, and cabin rentals. Seasonal considerations heavily influence camping experiences, with most facilities operating from mid-April through October. Fair Haven Beach State Park, with its Bluff, Drumlin, and Lakeview Camping Areas, provides electric hookups across multiple camping loops, though water access varies by site. Reserved spots fill quickly during summer weekends and holiday periods, particularly for waterfront locations. Winter camping is limited primarily to South Shore RV Park. Campground proximity to Lake Ontario means weather patterns can change rapidly, with cool lake breezes even during summer months. A visitor noted that "the shaded electric camping area staved off most of the day's heat" while camping at Bluff Camping Area in Fair Haven Beach State Park.

Waterfront access remains the defining feature of camping near Sodus Point, with multiple facilities offering views of either Lake Ontario or smaller inland lakes. Many campgrounds maintain well-maintained shower facilities, picnic areas, and boat launches, though site privacy varies considerably. Campers particularly value the wooded setting at Fair Haven Beach State Park, where sites are "tucked back in the woods very close to Lake Ontario." Most campgrounds accommodate a range of camping styles, with tent and RV sites available throughout the region. Several campgrounds feature playgrounds and recreational fields, making them suitable for family camping trips. Reviews frequently mention the balance between natural settings and proximity to wineries, restaurants, and other attractions in the Finger Lakes region, making Sodus Point an appealing base for exploring both outdoor recreation and cultural sites.

      Hamlin Beach State Park Campground

      Beautiful and beautifully maintained

Kudos to Blue/High Tax States. For $27 a night, wonderful, huge campsites, clean individual toilet/showers, clean gorgeous Great Lake beaches, even organized kid activities on weekends. The staff is constantly around taking care of things. Of course there are dog owners not picking up after their animals but we can't blame the park for perks.

      Keuka Lake State Park Campground

      Keuka Lake State Park Campground

This state park has 3 campground loops--we randomly selected the Twin Fawns loop. I was pleasantly surprised by the size and privacy of the sites. The men's and the women's restrooms were clean, but have only two shower stalls in each. There are no shortcuts to the bathroom, so you'll have to walk the loop to get there. The beach is about half-mile away down a hill (and back up later) through the woods, but I think most people just drive there. Star knocked off because no lake views from the campgrounds.

      Oneida Shores County Park

      Beautiful and peaceful

We had a great stay at Oneida Shores Campground. Over the weekend it was nearly full, but it never felt crowded. The other campers were friendly and there were no issues. At 10 pm, it got very quiet, no issues. The newly paved sites are level. The grounds are well kept. I wouldn't say the sites were too close together. We had plenty of room. The tent area is shaded by trees, the rv section is not. We encountered several park employees, all were very friendly and helpful. Never saw any geese. The only negative is that the showers and restrooms need a deep clean and upgrade, but they were serviceable.

      Sunset Harbor RV and Cabins

Not a resort but a great low cost campground with fantastic views.

We found this little gem when planning our trip. It is owned & operated by a Patrick who works very hard to keep it in great condition. There are at least twenty RV sites with thirty amp & some with fifty amp power all with full hookups. He also has several vacation rental cabins on the site, some of which he has built. All this is located right on the shores of lake Ontario about six miles from Oswego NY. Great lake views. An inground in pool, restrooms and showers all kept clean & in great condition. On-site firewood at a good price. Very short walk to a restaurant offering seafood sandwiches/ platters as well as burgers etc with lots of lakeside seating. Also a fantastic Ice-cream shop with dozens of flavors within 2 minutes walk. Well worth staying. We will return.

      Shady Shores Campground

      The views are spectacular

Its a small park with lots of campers that park year round. Super friendly golf cart riding community always ready to help out. Wifi isnt the best, but it was quiet and peaceful.

      Hamlin Beach State Park Campground

      Beautiful Park and campground

Our family camps here all the time. This year, we saw so much work put into the park. The camp store is open again, and the park has a working concession stand, too! They put in new benches and gardens and added beautiful walking paths by the water! There was a wonderful fireworks show over the water as well. Such a great campground and park!!

      Selkirk Shores State Park Campground

      Beautiful View

We thought the campground was beautiful, tight to your neighbors on majority of sites, and lack of trash cans for pet waste especially since the campground is so big. It has ball field, 2 playgrounds, rec room, camp store, lake Ontario to swim, trails for multi use, and pavillions. Down fall for us was small site , lack of trash cans to toss pet waste, not being told about fill station because there is no water faucets like most state parks along campground. We were there for first time so not familiar with park. Office did not offer us a map to get to our site or clue us in on filling our tank prior to parking camper. Main gate personnel not on same information. bathrooms could be cleaned more often. bathhouse building is all gender with bathrooms on one side of building and showers on other. Bathroom and showers are private space rooms. Beach is very rocky with little sand area. Life guards only guard one side of beach making everyone crowded to one side

      Genesee Country Campground

      Nice campground

Nice campground, spots are tight lots of seasonals all of the sites can be buddy sites, there is limited activities for small kids no pool or splash pad for cool off, no sewer on any sites. They do have a grey water drain @ all sites,

Very tight moving big fifth wheels and large tow vehicles

Race track is across the road I went over and enjoyed the mini sprint races on Saturday if your not into racing it is quite loud on Saturday night until 11pm

    What to do

Fishing at Sterling Pond: Fair Haven Beach State Park offers excellent fishing opportunities in both Lake Ontario and Sterling Pond. According to one visitor at Drumlin B Camping Area: "Every time we go to fair haven we have a great time. The campsites are good size and give you privacy. The beach is great. We love walking the pier. My boys love riding their bikes."

Explore Chimney Bluffs: Located just a short drive from Lake Bluff RV Park, these dramatic erosional features offer unique hiking opportunities. A camper noted: "We had a huge site near a little stream, overall the campground isn't very big with lots of seasonsals. Lots of activities for kids, and just around the corner from chimney bluff state park which are a must see!"

Water recreation options: Multiple swimming areas cater to different preferences and age groups. At Lakeview Camping Area, a visitor shared: "Range of camping available from non electric to sites with electric also cabins are available. 2 swimming, sand beachs on lake Ontario with diving area in the canal that leads to a pond that has excellant fishing. Canoes and paddle boats available."

    What campers like

Spacious sites: Campers consistently mention the ample room at campsites in the area. A visitor to Bluff Camping Area noted: "We camped here two nights at the lake view area and loved it! Spacious sites, not all are enclosed with trees but still plenty of room to spread out, we had two tents, two cars, a boat & a pop up table over tent and had plenty of room to have other come and visit."

Clean facilities: Well-maintained bathrooms and showers enhance the camping experience. One camper at Bluff Camping Area stated: "The showers and bathrooms are mostly clean and well stocked and there is a dedicated sink outside the building for dishes."

Lake views and sunsets: The proximity to Lake Ontario provides memorable evening vistas. A camper at South Shore RV Park shared: "Quite campground, well maintained, clean bathhouse, definitely will stay again."

    What you should know

Water quality notices: Public water systems occasionally issue boil water advisories. A camper at Lakeview Camping Area observed: "When we were there the city was under a water advisory- all water had to be boiled before any kind of use."

Wind exposure on bluffs: Sites along elevated areas experience stronger wind conditions. According to a visitor: "Get a site by the buffs if you have a tent that can take some serious wind (especially in fall)."

Site variations across loops: Different camping loops offer distinct experiences. A camper at Junius Ponds advised: "We were in a long pull through near the front of the campground and it had a large grassy section to the side. There were a lot of seasonal campers here and they were all friendly."

    Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Many campgrounds offer organized events and facilities for children. A visitor to Lake Bluff RV Park shared: "Have been to lake buff twice this year and will definitely be back next year! The owners are so personable, accommodating and kind! Kids activities are great. Even with COVID they have stuff to keep them busy."

Recreation facilities: Look for campgrounds with game rooms and playgrounds. One camper noted: "Near the play ground they have a nice game room pool, air hockey, video games. There is a change machine too."

Beach access for children: The sandy beaches at Fair Haven are particularly well-suited for families. A visitor remarked: "We love this place it has just enough waves that the little kids can jump them. But small enough that they don't get pulled over by the waves."

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Some non-electric sites have terrain issues. One RVer at Lakeview Camping Area observed: "The non-electric sites were pretty much all on hilly areas, most would be impossible for an RV to get level, though there were a few that would have worked."

Hookup availability: Electrical service varies by loop and campground. A camper at Drumlin A Camping Area noted: "One downside, NYS needs to upgrade electricity and make more sites electric."

Road conditions: Some campgrounds have challenging interior roads. An RVer at Junius Ponds shared: "The roads are narrow and hilly, but we pull a 36' 5th wheel (mid-profile) and we had no issues with branches."
