    Letchworth State Park Campground

A little gem with a lot to do

Cabin campers here at letchworth for the past two years. We stumbled on cabin camping at letchworth due to weekends being booked for almost the entire summer for tent spots. the cabins are spacious, with bunk beds, a stove, fridge, and a fire place. i thought they might be close together, yet they were all pretty private, with a fire ring and picnic table. There was a beautiful updated playground, and clean bathrooms. Last summer they had just opened the new nature center with guided hikes, and activities all summer long.

Great for the falls, swimming, hiking, white water rafting, kayaking and so much more!

    Willow Bay Recreation Area

    Quiet nights, Easy days

Willow bay campground is run by the National Forest Service. The reservable lots are wide and numerous for a out of the way sight. The campground services tent sites, RV sites as well as small cabins with electricity. There is a central bathhouse near the oak loop. Closer to the boat ramp sites- most of which are tent ready, there are vault toilets. These sites are less than a mile from the North Country Trail. Other, smaller trails are here as well. The New York State lone is less than five miles away- providing access to Allegheny State Park. The closest town of note is Bradford, which is about 18 miles away. It has all you need to get your necessities. The cabins were small- one twin bed and a set of single bunks. You need to bring your own sheets. There is a small heater imbedded in the wall. It keeps things from getting too cold, as it was when I was there. Fire ring and picnic table provided. Charcoal grill as well. The only problem I had was with the wildlife. A mouse or something kep crawling in the space between the roof and ceiling. There is no cel service here, and you shouldn’t need it either. Places to visit are too numerous to mention, but I will give a shout out to the zippo case museum, absolutely a must.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Cute cabins and amazing views

We stayed in a cute cabin with running water, a stove, and a heater for cold nights! Outside we had a picnic table and a campfire pit. The park itself has amazing hiking with awesome views. Highly recommend!

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Beautiful place

Letchworth is absolutely stunning. The views are beautiful, however the scenic areas are at least a 10 minute drive from the campground. The park is massive.

There is a huge variation in site sizes. We lucked out and got a large site with privacy and an area for the kids to run around, however the site directly across from us was little more than the gravel pad and fire pit. Some of the sites are right on top of each other. Great for group camping, not so much if you want any privacy.

Only two out of the 8 loops (200 and 700 loops) have updated bathrooms (single toilet with handheld showers in half of the bathrooms). The others loops have older facilities with three traditional toilet stalls and two showers.

We loved our site but would’ve preferred to stay in a loop with the updated bath houses as we have younger children and a tent trailer.

All sites have electricity. Some loops are pet friendly, some are pet free. The camp store has a good selection of necessities, albeit expensive for discount brands. The pool is 4-5 miles down the road from the camping area.

    Would absolutely camp here again.

Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill

    Wonderful!

Great secluded tent camping (recomend numbers 7 and 8), cabins are new and ample beds and space. Camper camping is close to everything, but less privacy. Numerous pavilions that are wonderful for parties or weddings. Stunning overlook that is breathtaking (also great for weddings). Hiking, bike trails, fishing pond, playground, open fields for sports, much more!!! Great for photo shoots, weekend stress getaways etc. I live close by and visit a few times a month.

Quaker Area — Allegany State Park State Park

    Quaker Area- Buffalo Cabin #8

We head out to Allegany State Park every year in late fall. The cabins are perfect for cooler temperatures and cozying up beside the wood stove. The table and chairs provided inside the cabin are perfect for eating on and prepping food.

The buffalo trail is perfect for a weekend getaway, with Cabin 8 far in the corner, providing lots of space between nearby cabins. It is also beside the river and provides a wonderful sound to fall asleep to.

Shower facilities are just down the road and were very clean! The bathroom facilities on the buffalo cabin loop are also equally clean and warm in the colder temperatures!

    Conesus Lake Campground

Camping with amenities, close to fun

This is your typical Mom and Pop family campground, there are rules to follow but they do not hinder on your experience. They have a well stocked camp store, boat rentals, golf cart rentals, an indoor heated pool, jump pad, playgrounds, a hiking trail and frisbee golf. The bottom portion of the campground has mostly seasonal campers and cabins. You do have to go up a pretty steep hill to get to the 'transient' camping section, but there are many pull through, level, full hook up sites to choose from. ( We had site 250 and really liked it) The bathrooms were toilet/shower combos and were very clean. Attractions close by is a drive-in with 4 different screens, many places to eat, parks ( Vitale Park was really nice), a fun center with mini golf, go carts, batting cages, laser tag and arcade. We also experienced the local flea market in Avon, NY. It's HUGE!

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Good Camping inside the Park

The campgrounds are conveniently located inside the Park so easy to get to the amazing falls towards the south as well as the dam in the north. We were in loop 300 which does not allow pets. Decent bathhouses right opposite our site. Our site was a gravel drive with a grassy area containing the picnic table and fire ring. Unfortunately due to rain the day before the grass was extremely muddy which make it hard to get to the fire ring. There was also white a lot of noise from adjacent sites, we could hear everyone's conversations and screaming kids. There was a laundry facility but no dishwashing.

Guide to Belmont

Cabin accommodations near Belmont, New York provide access to the rolling hills of Allegany County, where the region's elevation ranges between 1,400-2,500 feet above sea level. The area experiences four distinct seasons, with warm summers averaging 75-85°F and winters often dropping below freezing. Seasonal operation typically runs May through October, with many woodland cabins situated on terrain that offers privacy without complete isolation from amenities.

What to do

Creek exploration: At Sugar Creek Glen Campground, clear ankle-deep water creates ideal conditions for upstream hiking and natural play areas. "Amazing miles of upstream hiking, water holes, rope swings, etc. Perfect for little kids and adults," notes Andy B., who found the creek system perfect for family adventures.

Gorge trail hiking: The sandstone formations near cabin rentals provide memorable day trips within short driving distance. At Stony Brook State Park Campground, "The gorge trail is very busy but you still can enjoy the beautiful waterfalls along with the gorge formation. We also did the east trail that goes up to the top of the gorge," explains Verity S., highlighting the variety of trail options.

Swimming in natural formations: Natural swimming areas provide refreshing alternatives to traditional pools. "Wonderful park. The canyon was incredible, and lots of look out spots. The roads, and trails, and lookout points are all well constructed, and flow well," shares Seth S. about the accessible natural features at Letchworth State Park.

What campers like

Peaceful water sites: Riverside cabin options provide tranquil settings with water access. At Riverhurst Park Campground, "It was a lovely site situated right on the bank of the Allegheny River. It was very beautiful, relaxing and peaceful there," reports Rachel S., highlighting the riverfront location.

Natural privacy: Many cabin sites feature natural separation from neighbors. "If you are looking for a deep woods experience... this is it! The sites are very secluded though and if you want some peace get one of the sites in the woods and have some time to yourself!" shares Megan T. about the woodland setting at Evergreen Trails Campground.

Recreation facilities: Family-friendly cabin rentals often include access to shared amenities. At Trout Run Camp Resort, "Bathrooms were very clean. Lots of things to do for young ones; heated pool, splash pad, pickleball court, basketball hoops and Gaga ball court. Opportunity to rent kayaks, bikes and golf carts," notes Sydney W.

What you should know

Water crossing requirements: Some cabin and tent sites require crossing water features. "Just be advised that if you plan to camp with just a tent you will have to cross a creek to do it, so make sure to have an elevated, AWD/4x4 car or truck to help with the process," cautions Seth K. about access at Sugar Creek Glen Campground.

Cleanliness preparation: Cabin rentals vary in provided cleaning tools. "The camper itself is nice and in good repair," notes Robyn M., but advises bringing your own cleaning supplies as they aren't always provided.

Weather considerations: The region experiences significant rainfall, particularly during spring and early summer. "We loved sugar creek glen! The owners were super friendly and helpful! There is a beautiful waterfall and creek in the middle of the campground. We were able to hike and climb up to more falls and swimming holes when the creek level came down one day. Other days we couldn't due to high creek levels," shares Cassondra P.

Tips for camping with families

Natural play areas: Children benefit from nature-based recreation at camping cabins near Belmont. "There is a beautiful playground and Gaga ball pit," notes Cassondra P. about Sugar Creek Glen, while also mentioning the creek access that provides natural entertainment.

Educational opportunities: Some parks feature learning elements for children. At Kanakadea Park - Almond Lake, visitors can enjoy "Lots of things to do from paddling and fishing to hiking trails or learning about the dam. There is an observation deck and ball fields available," according to Stuart.

Seasonal activities: Family entertainment varies throughout the operating season. "Around Halloween all the RVs decorate and the kids dress up for trick or treating. The owners of the park are very friendly and accommodating," explains Carlyne F. about the special events that make cabin camping memorable.

Tips from RVers

Site selection considerations: Cabin and RV site layout varies significantly between properties. "VERY tight to maneuver in and park if your camper is over 30 feet. Be prepared for very low power voltage drops with nothing running in your site," warns Kirstie D., suggesting careful research before booking.

Electrical capacity: Understanding power limitations helps prevent issues during your stay at cabin campgrounds. "Initially we booked site 97. Upon arrival we found out that 97 is no longer a camp site. We were moved to site 14 thankfully they had one spot available for a fully booked weekend," shares Nick O., emphasizing the importance of confirming site details before arrival.

Storage requirements: Many cabin accommodations near Belmont provide limited space. "Our site 14 was nice and large had some shade from trees. The camp ground had trash cans available in multiple locations to throw away garbage," notes Nick O., highlighting practical details that improve the camping experience.
