Best RV Parks & Resorts near Almond, NY

Maple Lane RV Park and Hickory Hill Camping Resort near Almond offer full-hookup RV sites with 50-amp service for larger motorhomes and travel trailers. Both parks provide water, sewer, and electric connections on gravel pads that accommodate a range of vehicle sizes. "Very clean campsites are very nice plenty of room had a 50 amp and 30 amp service box in a pull through site," noted one visitor about nearby facilities. Finger Lakes RV Resort, located within driving distance, features spacious sites specifically designed for big rigs with concrete pads and full hookups. The resort maintains generous spacing between sites, unlike some of the more tightly packed parks in the region, and remains open seasonally from April through October.

Several RV parks in the area require advance reservations, particularly during fall foliage season when availability becomes limited. Many parks offer on-site sanitary dump stations, though water quality varies—one camper recommended using filters due to sediment issues at Ferenbaugh Campground. Cell service ranges from excellent to spotty depending on location and carrier; Verizon customers generally report 2-4 bars of service throughout the region. Pet-friendly options include Letchworth State Park Campground and Jones Pond, though specific loops may restrict animals. RV travelers should note that navigation to some parks involves narrow roads with elevation changes, potentially challenging for longer rigs without proper route planning.

    Finger Lakes RV Resort

Beautiful new spacious RV resort in excellent location.

We arrived on Saturday, 10.8.22 and are staying for a week. This is a delightful location. Rachel and Doug are cheerful, attentive, and very personable owners who are on-site at almost all times. This park just opened this year, so we checked in at an entrance building that they're using until their primary building is complete. We were greeted with delicious cookies, our site(#9) backs up to a wooded area(with a hiking path buried in there) with a lot of space. We booked early, which was a good thing because they were 100% full for Indigenous People's Day. We chose this site because there was a lot of room around it and we're used to really tightly packed RV parks. But what we found is that all of the sites are very nicely spread out with generous spacing, so that's not an issue. It's still nice to be on the outskirts. We also chose this section per a review we read to be away from the main road noise, but there really isn't much road noise to worry about, anyway. The WiFi is strong and consistent. We're using 30amps, but they also have 20 and 50amp service to each site. The water pressure is great. The bath house is new and very comfortable. Each site has a picnic table, a fire ring and lots of room for big rigs. We watched Doug neaten up sites after other RV's vacated, which shows an attention to detail we don't often find. They also drive by each site every morning to collect trash and recycling. The sunsets are spectacular over the lake(we can't see the lake from here, but it's close). There are numerous award-winning wineries surrounding us and up and down the lake. We're headed out for tastings today. We've been hiking the last few days- Watkins Glen State Park- Gorge Trail(go early or it gets REALLY crowded), Taughannock State Park- Gorge& North Ridge Trail over on Cayuga Lake, and a concert(Rufus Wainwright) at Point of the Bluff Winery over on Keuka Lake. We stopped afterward for dinner in Hammondsport at Timber Stone Grill which was truly wonderful. That's about 35- 45 minutes away. Lots more hiking trails to do in the National Forest and surrounding areas. And there's Watkins Glen, a charming town just minutes away. We highly recommend Finger Lakes RV Resort and we'll be back!

Blueberry Patch Campground — Green Mountain & Finger Lakes National Forests

    Simple

The only Finger Lakes National Forest designated campground, Blueberry Patch offers a secluded experience in the heart of this sometimes overlooked beautiful geographic region in the State of New York. This campground offers a simple experience, with fire rings and picnic tables at each site and seems to accommodate just tent and small campers. Vault toilets available. On a week day in early summer, 3 of the 9 campsites we’re occupied. Can see it filling up on weekends. Enjoy!

    Ferenbaugh Campground

    Relaxing place to stay

This CG has two distinct sections. Near the entrance is the Pull Through Area. Behind a row of trees there are several sites with full hookups including cable TV and Wi-Fi. The sites are open, reasonably level, and a good size. The other sites are in the woods, most of these sites do not have sewer connections. There is a honey wagon service available. We camped with a relative who was new and we were teaching them how to operate their camper. We had a couple of dry days then some rain. Still was a great teaching/learning experience.

Make sure you use a water filter, there was a lot of sediment in the water when we were there. See pictures of 4 days on a new cartridge.

We had a fantastic sunrise one morning.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Beautiful place

Letchworth is absolutely stunning. The views are beautiful, however the scenic areas are at least a 10 minute drive from the campground. The park is massive.

There is a huge variation in site sizes. We lucked out and got a large site with privacy and an area for the kids to run around, however the site directly across from us was little more than the gravel pad and fire pit. Some of the sites are right on top of each other. Great for group camping, not so much if you want any privacy.

Only two out of the 8 loops (200 and 700 loops) have updated bathrooms (single toilet with handheld showers in half of the bathrooms). The others loops have older facilities with three traditional toilet stalls and two showers.

We loved our site but would’ve preferred to stay in a loop with the updated bath houses as we have younger children and a tent trailer.

All sites have electricity. Some loops are pet friendly, some are pet free. The camp store has a good selection of necessities, albeit expensive for discount brands. The pool is 4-5 miles down the road from the camping area.

    Would absolutely camp here again.

    Leonard Harrison State Park Campground

Site 17 Site maps can be deceptive

General: This is a small 28-site campground located on the east rim of the canyon; seven of the sites are electric and six of them are pet-friendly. We reserved site 17 after looking at the site map because it looked like there was a generous amount of separation between this site and the surrounding ones, however, upon arrival, this was not the case. Although some of the sites are generous in size, there is no physical separation between them. Site 1 would, in my opinion, be the best of the non-electric sites for privacy. Sites 6 and 8, while close to the bathhouse, would likely have people walking through your site to get to the bathhouse. Campers have worn a path between these sites to access it. Props to this park for having recycling bins for plastic, glass, and aluminum. While this park is open year-round, the campground is only open from the second Friday in April through the third weekend in October.

Site Quality: The parking pad is delineated by rocks but not very clearly defined. There is a generously sized picnic table and fire ring to complete the grassy site.

Bathhouse: Very clean (we have found most Pennsylvania state parks excel in their bathhouse cleanliness). Hot water (definitely appreciated on this cold weekend!) and one handicap accessible shower (but it was too cold while we were there to want to take a shower although it did look inviting).

Activities: Two hiking trails on the east rim where the campground is located. The Turkey Path was closed about ¾ mile down (by the waterfall) due to storm damage. Although the trail was clearly marked closed at this point, many chose to ignore it and continue on☹. This trail is challenging as it has steep switchbacks down and back up again and it is narrow and slippery but definitely worth doing. The Overlook Trail, while not long (less than a mile), is also challenging with down and uphills. If you don’t want to (or can’t) access these trails, there is an observation platform where you can enjoy great views of the canyon. All of these trails are accessible from the campground. There is also a long multi-use trail for hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing. There is a nice playground accessible from the campground.

Conclusion: We were here the last weekend the campground was open and while the fall foliage was not experiencing the best year, it was still very beautiful at this park, and we enjoyed the hikes.

Jellystone Park™ of Western New York

Camping resort in the middle of nowhere

There was a great WiFi connection, so it was difficult to get my boys to go explore! We have a 35 foot travel trailer and had zero difficulty backing into a W/E spot. Gravel pads, decent space between RVs. We did need our extra hose to reach our spigot but I think that was unusual. The dump station was easy to get to and clean when we left.

Playgrounds, beach, mini-golf, dog park, bounce pillow, basketball, volleyball, movie nights, wagon rides twice a day with Jellystone characters, lots of daily activities, water park, kayaks, SUP’s, canoes, LIFEGUARDS!... ALL INCLUDED. My kids did mini-golf 4 times. Snack bar (with good wings and delivers!). Golf cart rentals. What was I most impressed with? Trash pickup. You put it in front of your site, somebody picked it up. Any time of day.

There were three types of cabins I saw, but didn’t go inside. You could fish in the pond. The website says Laser Tag but we didn’t explore that far. The town is teeny tiny so no good grocery store around. The grounds were well kept. Niagara Falls were a little more than an hour away. Great day trip!

We we will come back next year and bring our cousins!

Guide to Almond

Seasonal campgrounds near Almond, New York operate primarily from April through October, with most facilities closing during winter months due to heavy snowfall in the Western New York region. The area sits at elevations ranging from 1,200-1,800 feet, creating distinct camping conditions compared to lower-lying areas. Fall foliage season brings increased demand for camping accommodations, particularly at sites with views of the surrounding hills.

What to do

Waterfalls exploration: Letchworth State Park Campground offers access to three major waterfalls within a few miles of each other. "The canyon was incredible, and lots of look out spots. The roads, and trails, and lookout points are all well constructed, and flow well," notes a camper who appreciates the park's scenic attractions.

Wine tastings: The region provides access to numerous wineries, some within walking distance of campsites. At Finger Lakes RV Resort, "Walking paths from the campground to two different wineries" make sampling local vintages convenient without driving. Another reviewer mentions it's "Located about 1/3 of the way up the eastern side of Seneca Lake, the location provides easy access to the wineries, distilleries, and breweries along the lake."

Fishing for catfish: Jones Pond Campground offers excellent fishing opportunities with "plenty of catfish" according to reviewers. Sites are "great for camping, kayaking, fishing, and watching loons, herons, and bald eagles." The pond remains a relatively undiscovered spot compared to busier lakes in the region.

What campers like

Clean, modern facilities: Campers consistently praise the maintenance standards at Hickory Hill Camping Resort. As one visitor notes, "This Campground is a clean, well kept campground with a friendly helpful staff." Another mentions, "They have multiple pools, a sprayground, mini golf, crafts, clean bathrooms and dog stations throughout the grounds."

All-inclusive pricing: Some campgrounds offer activities without additional fees. At Hickory Hill, "a lot of free amenities" are included with your site reservation. Another camper confirms, "There is a lot to do at Hickory Hill and everything is included in your site fee."

Family entertainment: Jellystone Park of Western New York focuses on family activities. "Your kids won't be bored while staying here. There is enough to keep them entertained for days," states one reviewer. Another adds it's "like a water park, meets campground. Games areas, activities galore."

What you should know

Site spacing varies significantly: While some parks offer tightly packed sites, others provide more room. At Finger Lakes RV Resort, "all of the sites are very nicely spread out with generous spacing" according to visitors. The resort maintains "really nice pavilion for group gatherings and watching the sunset."

Weather considerations: Summer heat and occasional storms affect camping conditions. "If you're visiting during the summer, be sure your air conditioning and awnings are working," advises one camper about Finger Lakes RV Resort, which has "no shade from trees or otherwise." During severe weather, power outages can occur, as one camper experienced: "We experienced a severe thunderstorm one evening which resulted in an area-wide power outage that lasted a couple days."

Reservation requirements: Popular sites fill quickly during peak seasons. At Summer Haven, a small private campground with limited sites, one camper noted "This early in the season water was not available, but electricity was." Confirm utility availability before booking, especially in shoulder seasons.

Tips for camping with families

Free activities: Choose campgrounds with included amenities to control costs. Jellystone Park offers "free putt putt" according to visitors. Another mentions it has "water park, fishing, kayaking, swimming. It has it all."

Halloween weekends: Special seasonal events provide unique camping experiences. At Jellystone, "Halloween weekends are full of fun and fright" with organized trick-or-treating and themed activities for kids.

Swimming options: Multiple parks offer water features for cooling off. Hickory Hill provides "multiple pools" and "a sprayground" that children particularly enjoy during summer months when temperatures rise.

Tips from RVers

Site accessibility: Some rv sites near Almond, New York present challenges for larger rigs. At Summer Haven, one RVer reported, "Getting into the site was a challenge, but doable with a 16 foot Basecamp. Had we been staying for more than one night, or arrived earlier we would have loved to utilize their fire ring!"

Hookup verification: Always confirm exact utility availability. At Summer Haven, "The owners description noted a 50 amp hookup which was available, but 30 amp was not. They did have a 120v surge protector on site, and we fortunately had an extension cord."

Premium RV sites: For larger motorhomes seeking campsites near Almond, newer facilities often provide better accommodations. Finger Lakes RV Resort features "large sites and level, graveled parking pad" with "excellent Wi-Fi" and strong water pressure, making it suitable for extended stays and remote work needs.
