Best RV Parks & Resorts near New Brunswick, NJ

Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City provides electric and water hookups for RVs with 90 sites in a marina setting. Sites are positioned quite close together, with limited space between neighboring rigs and minimal amenities beyond basic utilities. "This is basically a parking lot with a dump station. Not much else. Pick one of the larger end row sites to get a little extra elbow room," notes one visitor. The park offers convenient access to New York City attractions via nearby public transportation. Turkey Swamp Park in Freehold Township features more spacious wooded sites with 30-amp electric service, water connections, and sewer hookups, operating from April through mid-November. NWS Earle RV Park in Colts Neck provides full hookup sites with level concrete pads and 50-amp electrical service.

Advance reservations are essential during peak periods, particularly for Liberty Harbor where the prime location commands rates of $120 per night despite the utilitarian setup. Most parks in the region allow pets, though specific restrictions may apply. Cell service varies between locations, with stronger connections in urban-adjacent parks like Liberty Harbor. Many sites lack sewer hookups at the individual spaces, with centralized dump stations available instead. A recent review noted, "Water is more than 40 feet away from your parking so 25' hose is not enough" at Turkey Swamp Park. RV drivers should be prepared for navigation challenges in some areas, particularly around Jersey City where construction and narrow streets can make maneuvering difficult for larger rigs. Security features vary by location, with Liberty Harbor offering 24-hour security personnel.

    Village Scene Park

    Tucked-Away Community Vibe

I’m following up on my review from over a year ago with updated insights, additional photos and a quick breakdown of HIGHLIGHTS and LOWLIGHTS:

HIGHLIGHTS: (1) Convenient suburban location near Philadelphia yet surprisingly quiet; (2) Full-hookup RV sites with 30 / 50 amp, water, and sewer; (3) Affordable rates compared to other campgrounds in the region; (4) Smaller, tight-knit atmosphere with friendly long-term residents; (5) Pet-friendly, with walking areas and green space; and (6) Nearby restaurants include Franconi’s Pizzeria for classic pies and cheesesteaks and Appalachian Brewing Company with pub fare and house-brewed beers.

LOWLIGHTS: (1) Sites are narrow and can feel cramped, so don’t expect big pull-throughs; (2) Limited amenities with no pool, clubhouse, or playground; (3) Grounds feel more like a residential mobile home park than a campground; (4) Some infrastructure is dated and could use upgrades; and (5) Not much in the way of natural scenery because, um, this is urban camping.

    Happy Camping!

    Adventure Bound Camping (Tall Pines)

    Deceiving Website

We stayed at Adventure Bound Tall Pines in Elmer, New Jersey, for Memorial Day weekend for a quick getaway. Despite reserving and paying for a“Premium” site, it fell far short. But there were still a few things we liked…

    THINGS I LIKED:

    1. Super-friendly staff, especially Allie, who was courteous and seemed to try to make things right

    2. Lots of mature shade trees

    3. DJ at the pool Saturday and Sunday and live band Saturday evening

    4. Close proximity to Delsea Drive-in Theatre and Cohenzick Zoo

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE SO MUCH:

    1. I reserved and paid-in-full for a premium site which listed 50-amp service and a concrete pad. Nope. Only 30-amp service and no concrete pad. When I called the office, assuming there must’ve been a mistake, I was told by two different staff members that their website is“wonky.” I wouldn’t mind as much, but this weekend was 90-degrees each day and humid, so it would’ve been good to have air conditioning.

    2. The entire park was dirty sand with weeds growing everywhere

    3. This place is not big-rig friendly, difficult to navigate some of the turns in our 45’ motorhome and taking scratches from tree branches that should be trimmed

    4. I paid$432 for 3-nights and feel like I was taken

    WOULD WE COME BACK?

Nope. I’m sticking with campgrounds that give you what you paid for.

    Colonial Woods Family Resort

    Not big rig friendly.

Ok so let me start off by saying. If we still had our smaller travel trailer this review would’ve been at least 4 stars. However this place is not the place for you if you have a fifth wheel. The roads are very narrow, pretty sizable boulders on both sides, trees are very low and need to be trimmed (almost took my ac out with a huge limb). Now if you’re not big rig camping like we do, this place is great for you. Close to the ringing rocks and three other towns. We were able to do so much even though it rained the entire weekend we were there.

    Tohickon Family Campground

    Great But...

Its a great campGround But There are some cons. Don't come if your in a tent And It Has Been ior will rain, It Becomes Flooded or turns into A mudPit. All The Private or Good spots are usually taken By seasonals But the other spots are decent if you Have A Big rig it can Be A little squish.

Pros Great People beautiful surroundings Nice Bathrooms Quiet and Peaceful Accessible Nice Pool Every store U could Need is in about 15 mins Away Not Alot of Stupid rules just Be respectful Pet friendly

I Been coming Here for years Never Had A Bad Time.

    Mahlon Dickerson Reservation

    Nice, small, spacious campground

We stayed at site 15 for 5 days. The sites are nicely wooded, very well spaced, fairly level with 50A service and water hookup. Although the water spigots were shared between sites, they provide hose caddies that should reach most RV hookups. No sewer hookup, but there is a convenient dump station. There are no fire rings in the RV section, only raised grills. We had the place pretty much to ourselves during the week, but the weekend did get busy. AT&T had ok data connection with 1-2 bars most of the time. There is no satellite coverage due to the heavy tree canopy. OTA TV was very inconsistent using an external omni antenna. There is no WiFi. There is a very nice network of trails in the reservation, most if not all were leashed dog friendly. There is a very nice restaurant, Stone Water, less than 10 miles away and is right on lake Hopatcong.

    Panther Lake Camping Resort

    Stayed all summer

We stayed at Panther Lake as full timers all season. Great during the week but very busy on weekends. Could be noisy with children not very well supervised.
Friendly, helpful staff. Cable TV poor when it rains. Cell service spotty all carriers. No internet at sites. Lake beautiful and pool nice.

    Turkey Swamp Park

    Quiet Woodland Campground

Turkey Swamp Park is a great find! Heavily wooded and supremely quiet, it’s located not far from anywhere you’d want to be. 30 minutes to the shore. Every site is a pull-through, large and spacious with great woodland views. 30amp and water. Dump station.

The park has miles of shady forested trails for hiking and dog walking. there’s a large lake here too, for water based recreational activities.

The bathrooms, showers, and laundry are co-located in a centrally situated structure. Everything inside is clean and well-maintained.

We’ve got good cell signal with Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint. (We use all three.) Good OTA television signal also.

We spent three days here in July 2021.

Military Park NJ National Guard Training Center RV Sites

    Quiet, spacious, no frills

We stayed in site #1 with our 21' travel trailer. In our opinion this is the best site because you have an unobstructed view of Stockton Lake & the horizon over the ocean. Big rig spots are further back (around site 6-9 or so). 9 sites total & they are often booked, so need to do so in advance. Free beach just a few moments' walk down the road. Close to shore towns & many restaurants. Plenty of space for kids to play in the field/grass area. TONS of geese everywhere though. Pets are NOT allowed (but they'd probably help w the geese problem). You get access to the showers with a key card and when you check in, but I don't have anything to report as I used the bathroom/shower in our trailer. Price is great at $45/night. FULL hookups as well. Only annoying thing was the sewer hookup is about 18 inches off the ground so you need to lift the hose when emptying the tanks to ensure it actually fully drains.

Guide to New Brunswick

RV campgrounds near New Brunswick, New Jersey typically range from basic urban parking areas to more spacious wooded facilities within 35 miles of the city. These campgrounds serve travelers exploring both Philadelphia and New York City, with seasonal availability varying widely by location. Turkey Swamp Park operates from April through mid-November, while other facilities like Liberty Harbor maintain year-round operations despite the Northeast's cold winters.

What to do

Lake activities at Turkey Swamp Park: The 64-acre park offers fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and paddle boating during summer months. "There is a lake with a boat dock and a small boardwalk. In the summer, canoe, kayak, paddle boats, and row boats are available for rental," reports a visitor to Turkey Swamp Park.

Hiking opportunities: Turkey Swamp features several short trails with the longest extending 2.5 miles. "Several short hiking trails that are fairly well-marked but can be a bit confusing at times. Some sections of the trails were muddy due to swamps and bogs but passable," notes one camper.

Archery practice: Some campgrounds offer unexpected activities. "Bring your bow and shoot at the hay barrels," suggests a regular visitor to Turkey Swamp Park who adds, "It has everything the outdoorsman could ask for."

Visit Six Flags: Indian Rock RV Resort provides convenient access to the popular theme park. "We stayed two nights at this park because we wanted to spend a day at Six flags... We would camp here again to go to six flags because it was easy to drive back a few minutes after a long day at the park," a visitor explains.

What campers like

Wooded sites with privacy: Many campers appreciate the natural setting at Turkey Swamp. "Sites are in the woods and widely spaced apart to give you privacy and the feeling of being out in the Forest," explains one reviewer who also notes, "you are allowed to have a tent on the site with an RV at no extra charge."

City access from Jersey City: Liberty Harbor RV Park offers unmatched urban proximity. "Very plain & functional, no frills but right on the harbor & on the very edge of Jersey City, close to a ferry & the train that takes u across to New York City," shares one camper who adds, "We brought scooters & had a great stay!"

Military facilities: Active and retired military personnel have dedicated options. At NWS Earle RV Park, "All spaces are level concrete With fill hookups and attached concrete patio. Power is at the far back & sewage is in the middle (left to right)," notes a reviewer who adds, "Laundry facilities are free for use and in like new condition."

Beach proximity: Coastal camping options exist within driving distance. At the National Guard Training Center RV Sites, "Free beach just a few moments' walk down the road. Close to shore towns & many restaurants," reports a visitor who secured "site #1 with our 21' travel trailer" and enjoyed "an unobstructed view of Stockton Lake & the horizon over the ocean."

What you should know

Limited sewer hookups: Many campsites lack individual sewer connections. At Liberty Harbor RV Park, "There is a dump station, but not the easiest to use," according to one camper.

Seasonal pest concerns: Some parks have significant tick populations. "By the 2nd day I had 3 ticks on me. My dog had one and by the end my husband had 2... I could not enjoy myself after having 3 biting me at one time," warns a Turkey Swamp visitor.

Water connection challenges: Water hookup placement varies by campground. At Turkey Swamp Park, one camper notes you should "Bring a LONG water hose" to ensure connectivity.

Reservation requirements: For military parks like Range 14 Camp, advance booking is essential. "Clean and gravel. Lots of military training nearby but overall a quiet stay," notes a visitor to this utilitarian facility.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Turkey Swamp Park offers multiple play areas for children. "There are age-appropriate playgrounds both in the campground and by the office," notes a visitor who appreciated the family-friendly amenities.

Bug preparation: Family camping requires proper insect management. At Turkey Swamp, experiences vary widely, as one family reports: "We went camping with our 2- and 3-year-old kids. We were worried about bugs, but we didn't even use mosquito repellent and didn't get a single bite!"

Bathroom proximity: When camping with children, consider site location relative to facilities. At Turkey Swamp, there is "Only one bathroom, bit of a walk but clean and many amenities available within," advises a camper.

Cell service for teens: Village Scene Park offers WiFi, though reviewers note it's "quite low speed." For better connectivity, Liberty Harbor RV Park's proximity to urban areas ensures stronger cellular coverage.

Tips from RVers

Size restrictions: While several parks accept large RVs, site dimensions vary significantly. Liberty Harbor accommodates big rigs but spaces are tight. "If it's packed, your neighbor with be within inches of your rig," warns one RVer.

Navigation challenges: Access roads can be problematic for larger rigs. For Village Scene Park, "You'll be driving down tree-lined, shady streets one moment and the very next, you'll happen across this unusual spot," making arrival potentially tricky.

Hookup positioning: RVers should prepare for unusual utility layouts. At NWS Earle, "A longer camper will be parked over the sewage connection," requiring appropriate hose length and configuration planning.

Security considerations: Many RV parks in the area have security measures. Liberty Harbor offers 24-hour security personnel, while military installations like Range 14 Camp provide added safety through access control.
