    Paulson RV Park

    RV, tent, and mobile homes

They had long term parking for campers not hooked up to anything and long term parking for full hookups. No dumping station because most the sites all have sewer. Were able to hook to water through the winter as well. No one else around could hook us up to water. Super cheap too. $200 per month for long term plus electric you are responsible for and $15 per day for short term. Cheaper if you are just going to park or pop a tent.

Modern Campground — Niobrara State Park

Tree shade and spacious back in.

Nice camping for extended stay of 14 days. Different length back in sites with picnic table and fire ring with grill. Camp host available. Handicap pad sites. I would have given a five star except for the cost!

We think $30/day for just electric is expensive but we’d been boon docking so we sprung for the expense for 3 nights. Showers are extra😳. Laundry available.

Little town of Niobrara, just a few miles away has limited shopping but a nice little grocery store, hardware store, museum, and fuel.

Confluence of the Missouri and Niobrara Rivers.

Nebraska State Parks have walk up and reservable spaces. We usually risk it and easily found a walk up on a Monday afternoon after the weekend crowd left.

We stayed in the RV campground but took a bike ride around the rest of the park. We stopped at the park office and chatted with assistant superintendent Nate. Very nice guy with lots of good info.. He told us about a nice loop we could continue our bike ride and we went around the picnic and tent area. Some incredible exclusive sites and great views of the Niobrara.

This campground is a gem snuggled along the Missouri River on the Nebraska side of the river. Lewis and Clark journeyed up the Missouri River on their way to the Pacific Ocean. In 1874 a group of Mennonites settled along the now Lewis& Clark Lake. Ground was broken in 1952 at the damsite. Now the public is able to recreate in numerous campgrounds and recreation sites along the Nebraska and South Dakota shore line

Weigand Campground — Lewis and Clark State Recreation Area

March Swag Camp, we are the only ones here.

We are staying at a basic tent camping site. There is available to us a pit toilet. Water is still shut down for the season.

Luckily, they do offer off-season rates. A Nebraska park permit is required for your vehicle.

Picnic table and fire ring are also here for us.

We are the only ones here in the entire park (mid-March 2025). Grounds are clean. Our site (site 5) is very large, and located on a small Bluff above the Missouri river.

Walking paths, frisbee golf, playgrounds, fishing, and boating are all available.

I have 4 bars of 5G cell service at my camp site. A WIFI hot spot is available at the camp office as well.

Weigand Campground — Lewis and Clark State Recreation Area

Sites on near lake side are great

Pros: Well kept, scenic, fire pits, picnic tables, store onsite, golf course nearby, bar nearby

Cons: Site 32 was a little shorter than the 50' length I expected, had to park the pull vehicle in the grass to stay off the road. Only electricity is available at the pads, dump station had no water to clean out as of 10/2022.

We stayed at site 32 on Weigand campground and our friends stayed next to us on 34. I would recommend either site. Site 32 was a little tight with a 28' 5th wheel and a 20' long truck. Site 34 has an extended width pad for some extra parking but is just as short. After being there I believe those were the best sites we could have reserved. We ended up at the nearby bar CJ's at The Lake to hang out and it was a great find. I have no real complaints about this campground.

Modern Campground — Niobrara State Park

    Great Spot!

All around beautiful place. We had a great camping experience this summer. The grounds were clean, beautiful scenery, pet friendly and fun hiking trails! There's a lot of really cool cabins to choose from and the tent camping areas are in great locations scattered around the park. Definitely for the 3 hour drive up there.

    Chief White Crane Recreation Area

    Calm and Peaceful

Level blacktop sites. Flat campground. Fishing, playground, nice dump station. High tree canopy, large old growth trees. Aluminum picnic tables. Commercial fire rings (not an old truck wheel). Very nice, would camp here again.

Guide to Royal

Royal, Nebraska offers RV campers access to several recreation areas along the Missouri River and Lewis and Clark Lake. The region sits at approximately 2,000 feet elevation in northeast Nebraska, where summer temperatures typically range from 65-85°F with occasional thunderstorms. Winter camping remains available at some locations, though services may be limited when temperatures drop below freezing.

What to do

Fishing access: Nebraska Tailwaters provides direct Missouri River access with an ADA-accessible fishing pier. "There is a fishing pier and boat ramp. There are only about 10 tent campsites and a bunch of RV sites," notes camper James D.

Biking trails: Paved paths connect camping areas at Lewis and Clark Recreation Area, allowing cyclists to explore the lake shoreline. "This beautiful campground has a bike trail that connects all the beaches. It has hiking trails, parks, and a georgous lake for swimming or boating," says reviewer Courtney G.

Wildlife viewing: The riverfront camping areas attract numerous bird species. "The Missouri River Valley is worth seeing at some point in your life. There are a lot of birds in the park which my wife appreciated," reports one visitor to Nebraska Tailwaters.

What campers like

Waterfront locations: Many RV sites near Royal, Nebraska offer direct water views. At Willow Creek State Recreation Area, "Most RV campsites are within a minute or two walk to lake. Awesome bike trails take you all around the lake and even across a bridge and dam for great views from multiple angles," according to Nate R.

Clean facilities: Several campgrounds maintain well-kept shower houses and restrooms. "The bathrooms and shower were not open yet. Locked my keys in the truck. The O'Neill Police opened my truck, within 20 minutes. I noticed they also patrolled the area," reports JAMES B. about Carney Park.

Affordability: Camping costs remain reasonable throughout the region. "Water and electric with pad and picnic tables and trees for $20! Also some tent sites," writes a visitor about Carney Park, highlighting the value.

What you should know

Seasonal water issues: Algae blooms affect some recreation areas during summer months. "Unfortunately Willow Creek State Recreation Area, NE was under a health advisory when we arrived due to algae," reports Shelly S., adding "This seems like a nice, sparsely shaded area with water sports when it's safe to be in the water."

Reservation requirements: Popular campgrounds fill quickly during peak season. "If it is during peak season, you want to reserve a site 90 days in advance," advises a Lewis and Clark Recreation Area camper.

Dump station locations: Not all campgrounds provide on-site dump facilities. "There is no dump station available at the park, you have to drive to town to dump your tanks at the courthouse," notes Charlie M. about Willow Creek State Recreation Area.
