Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park permits pets throughout its developed campground areas with designated tent, RV, cabin, and glamping options. Dogs must be leashed at all times while on the grounds. The campground provides clean facilities with picnic tables and fire rings at each site, making it practical for campers traveling with animals. Sites are spacious and relatively flat with some large trees dotted throughout for shade, particularly beneficial during hot summer days when pets need cooling off. Campground is well-maintained with garbage cans at many sites, eliminating long walks to dispose of pet waste.

Revenue Flats offers rustic, pet-friendly camping with no designated facilities but beautiful high plateau views worth the rough 5-mile access road. The dispersed camping area features multiple pull-outs with existing fire rings and ample room for vehicles with pets. The sites remain quiet during weekdays but can become crowded on weekends. Harrison Lake Campground provides another pet-friendly option with spacious, well-spread sites offering privacy for campers with dogs. The campground sits along the lakeshore with toilets available but no water hookups or electricity. Potosi Campground allows pets with creek access running through the middle of the site, giving dogs water play opportunities. The surrounding area offers excellent pet-friendly hiking trails with some routes extending up to 10 miles with wildflower displays during spring and summer seasons. Most campgrounds have minimal facilities, so campers should bring sufficient water for themselves and their pets.

      Bear Canyon Campground

      Steep steep

Not the best experience. The entrance is quite tricky and very steep. We missed the entrance and had to find a place to unhook and turn around. (We’re in a 36’ RV pulling a Jeep) The hookup spaces are so close together you can touch your neighbor, so we missed the beautiful views the partial hook up guys were able to enjoy. It’s a little run down and quite pricy. The dog “park” isn’t fenced, so if your hoping to let your dogs stretch there legs, this isn’t the place for you. We will find another stop next time we come through.

Bozeman Hot Springs Campground & RV

Good place to stay, nice hot springs

Nice dog park across the street, sites are a little tight but its perfect for a couple night stay. Awesome that its only 35 miles to Big Sky and its a gorgeous drive. Our sire only had electric/water but i know there are some with full hookups. Picnic tables and fire rings and sites are gravel.

      Three Forks KOA Journey

      Nice small KOA

This is a small KOA. Super friendly staff. Sites are shady unless you have a big rig - that area does not have shade. Decent dog park. Decent playground. I did not use the bath house so can’t comment on that. No pool, but did have a nice patio area with tables and chairs behind the store. I just stayed one night as we are on the road home. I do have one complaint and that is the sprinklers that came on overnight - it soaked the chairs and picnic table by our camper. I think the friendliness of the staff and the shady sites are the main reason for 5 stars.

      Toll Mountain Campground

      Pretty Neat

Wow this was a very unique camping experience up in the boulders. Had a lot of fun walking my dogs and cat up in there. (Yes my cat goes camping too). There was no water pumps on the campground, however there is a nice little creek running through that one could get water. Also there were vault toilets and the one we used was closer to the entrance of the campground. It was clean, however the door didn't lock. Really wish we didn't go on a holiday weekend as it sounded like a dirt bike ho-down and wasn't very relaxing. We will try again during the week or a non holiday weekend. The stars were gorgeous, and the bird watching was phenomenal. At least when there weren't dirt bikes.

      Red Mountain (MT)

      Fantastic hosts and beautiful scenery!

Our favorite campground to date! The hosts are wonderful, helpful, and kind people. The area is just beautiful, with the river only a few steps away, and there is plenty of room for people and pets to run and play. Lots of fun hiking trails nearby. Two big loops for campers (one first-come first-serve, one for reservations); the hosts were happy to point out the best spots to accommodate our 36-ft fifth-wheel. Clean restrooms with water spigots at each. We all love everything about this place!

      Hood Creek Campground

      Amazing Views

Stayed here one night after passing through Bozeman to get my Go Fast Camper. It did not disappoint. We stayed at spot 12 and it had amazing views of the lake/reservoir and mountain. Hiking trails around there are great as well. Camp hosts were super friendly and helpful. Highly recommend. Pet friendly! No AT&T or Sprint cell signal.

      VangoBoon

      Overall great campground

The hosts were very friendly and passionate about the up keep of their land. They were very flexible with check in and check out times and are pet friendly. Would definitely consider staying here again next time we visit the Bozeman area.

    Guide to Pony

Pet friendly camping near Pony, Montana offers diverse options across several fishing access sites and established campgrounds. Located in southwest Montana at an elevation of 5,465 feet, this region experiences warm summer days with temperatures typically ranging 70-85°F and cool nights dropping to 40-50°F. Fall brings early frost with nighttime temperatures that can approach freezing even in September, making warm sleeping gear essential.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: 4 rivers available at Missouri Headwaters State Park, where the Jefferson, Madison, and Gallatin Rivers meet. "If you like to fish you are in luck, you have four rivers to choose from, all with great fishing opportunities," notes Dexter I. This historic park also allows pets while providing educational experiences about Lewis and Clark's expedition.

Hot springs soaking: $3/day with camping at Norris Hot Springs. "When you're camping it's only and extra $3/day per person to go to the hot springs...normally $8/person. They have great food and a descent selection of beer/wine as well," explains Alicia F. Weekend visits include live music performances in the dome area.

Rock climbing access: high plateau routes near Revenue Flats. "Tons of super fun climbing!" shares Lucille W., though she cautions, "Road in was no beuno for the Honda Civic. She barely made it up and couldn't make it all the way back to some of the climbing spots." The area offers multiple established routes with spectacular night sky viewing.

    What campers like

Privacy between sites: Harrison Lake Campground offers well-separated camping spots. "Very spread out and very private. Definitely not fancy, very bare bones which is what we like," reports Kaite G. The spacious layout allows dogs plenty of room to settle without disturbing neighboring campers.

Scenic river camping: lakeside options at Meadow Lake Campground. "Most camp sights have lake access. Fishing is pretty good, I caught a few brown trout," David H. explains. This free camping area provides picnic tables and fire rings at each site with vault toilets available.

Historical significance: Lewis and Clark's route at Missouri Headwaters State Park. "Experience Camping near where Captains Meriwether Lewis and William Clark and the Corps of Discovery camped at the headwaters of the Missouri river in 1805," says Dexter I. The park includes historical signs throughout detailing the Corps of Discovery's journey.

    What you should know

Weather conditions: rapid changes common throughout the region, particularly at higher elevations. "Check weather report, strong winds and we had thunderstorms," warns Mark F. at Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park. Many sites lack substantial wind protection.

Limited facilities: bring supplies to most campgrounds. "No water or trash service is available," notes Dexter I. about Harrison Lake Campground. Most primitive sites have vault toilets but lack water sources, making it essential to bring adequate supplies for both humans and pets.

Reservation requirements: vary by location with some sites requiring advance booking. At Three Forks KOA Journey, "Got in late (after 9), but they where nice enough to give us a tent site to camp in... quiet hours where at 10pm and a lot of their guest go to sleep at that time, so they enforce that rule," explains Joshua T.

    Tips for camping with families

Junior ranger programs: educational activities at Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park. "Did you know you can print out a packet for your little ones to become Cub Rangers at this State Park? There are great amenities for both camping and RV'S with a child's playground located on the camp," notes Sierra V.

Playground access: structured play areas at several campgrounds. "We camped here with a group of families and the playground was nice for the kids. There aren't many trees and the land is flat but we were able to really keep a decent eye of the kids running around because of it," shares Heather at Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: dawn/dusk sightings common near water sources. "Deer visited camp at night!" reports Mark F. Many campgrounds offer opportunities to spot local wildlife while maintaining appropriate distance.

    Tips from RVers

Level site considerations: bring leveling blocks to most area campgrounds. "Had to use all our jack stands to combat the slope of our site (P007). Others looked much more level," advises Michael B. at Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park.

Hookup variations: confirm availability before arrival. "I did not realize that I booked partial hookups! So for the price of $75 per night I do find it on the pricey side. They do have a dump station on site though," Amber W. cautions at Cardwell General Store and Campground.

Road condition alerts: rough access roads to several pet-friendly dispersed sites. "We were pleasantly surprised at the beautiful views and quiet sites at Revenue Flats. It was well worth the 5 mile rough road with steep climb at the end," shares Lisa A. RVers should research road conditions before attempting to access more remote camping areas.
