      Road Runner RV Park

      Nicely spaced and clean campground

We stayed at this campground 1 night on our way between COVID-19 quarantine locations.  We found the park easy to navigate (no tight turns).  Large semi paved spaces (I say semi paved because the concrete pads were crumbling at least in our spot).  Good separation between sites with picnic tables, no shade but they do have a dog park.  Hookups were easy to reach and appeared to be in good repair.  Decent water pressure.  Many of the spaces were permanent campers or long term workers but it felt safe and appeared well maintained.

      Spring River Oaks

Great place to take the family. Water hook ups , electric , dumping station . Camp in tents , rvs. No pets. Camping along the Spring river with excellent waterfront views. Small store on the campground for necessities and close enough to local shopping in town.

Timbuktu Campground — Echo Bluff State Park

      Newest state park in Missouri

This is a great state park. Sites are level and have cement pads with full hookups. Not much shade now but they have planted trees between sites. Bathrooms are clean. There is also a lodge with store and restaurant just down the street. There are cabins there that can be rented also. And the real treat is the wild horses. Came right up to our site - but please do not feed or try to pet. The rangers will have to move them if they get to used to people.

Also local river rafting companies will pick you up at your site

Timbuktu Campground — Echo Bluff State Park

      Busy, busy, busy

Echo Bluff State Park in Ozark National Scenic Riverways near Eminence, MO is a brand new “old camp”.

Opened in 2016 the history is rather interesting. From 1929 until the 1980s, Camp Zoe was a children’s summer camp, founded by Russell S. and Margaret McMahan Louis County teachers. There is one of the structures still on site with plaques and information. More recently, it was home to music festivals — and an open-air drug market. I didn’t find any plaques in relation to that. However when the government gained control of the land in a court proceeding it was decided to bring more business into Shannon County by opening a very nice campground for people not wanting to rough it.

And “BAM” you have very pricey accommodations from lodge rooms, to cabins and two story condos. The campground is pretty nice too but lacking in shade and privacy. There are walk-in (uphill) sites and nice wagons provided to transport your gear. Not my favorite style of camping. Completely full and busy, which is why it got a 4 instead of 5 star. This may be your type of camping and you would say a 5 star. Reserve ahead, I mean way ahead.

There is a huge pavilion that can be reserved that overlooks the area. It has a large fire pit and mega size grill, one of the trails meanders below the pavilion. This would be a nice venue for an extended family get together.

This is a very nice, new, recreation creation. The playground was given two thumbs up by my granddaughter. Then the river, which you can see from the lodge and playground was given 12 paws and 2 thumbs by dogs and grandkids alike. Crystal clear ice cold water that you can walk across to the sheer wall of rock. Bring your water shoes, the rocks aren’t fun to walk on.

A very cool feature , if you are lucky , you will see the wild horses that roam the area. They are not for petting, so use caution.

Aside from the abundance of people we enjoyed Echo Bluff SP.

      Richard's Canoe Rental & Campground

      Great Place with Homey Feel

$10 per night, firewood, ice, and more amenities on site.  The owner is so nice.  His dog Lil' Dan also slept with me.  There is a horse next to the camp sites and it's just so beautiful.  Float launches from the campground, so convenient.  Close to Grand Gulf, Greer Spring, Mammoth Spring, and right on beautiful highway 19.  I will be back soon!

Timbuktu Campground — Echo Bluff State Park

      Missouri's best state park!

This is really the gem of Missouri state parks. Rv sites are all full 30/50 amp with water and sewer. All spots have plenty of room but are back in. The pads are perfectly level and are concrete. Camp hosts are helpful and kind. The lodge is in walking distance and offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The food is pretty good also! They offer inside dining but the best place to eat and enjoy the outdoors is on their huge deck. Wonderful place all around and Missouri really has done this one the right way!

Round Spring Campground — Ozark National Scenic Riverway

      Choose Tent Site Carefully

Positives: Tranquil little campground with beautiful spring and cave. Quiet, shady, has two points of river access, group sites, and steaming hot showers.  Close to Echo Bluff State Park, Current River State Park, and Eminence, MO.

Negatives:  Test sites are hit or miss. Sites 1-18 are fairly small and not very level. Sites 19-29 have larger, more level areas. 30-39 are kind of mixed.  Many sites have steps up of down to the site from the road.  There is no cell service available, so make sure you have made reservations before you get here. Closest cell service is up the road at Echo Bluff State Park.

Other info: You may get lucky and see otters on your way to the spring, or some of the wild horses in the area. Go in the early morning to the spring trail to watch the mist roll off the water and enjoy the wildlife - so otherworldly.

Cave tours are available June - Oct., but even if you visit is outside of this window, the walk to the cave is kind of magical.

If you walk to the spring overlook, you'll also encounter a portion of the Ozark Trail. About a half a mile down the Ozark Trail you can cross the Current River on a pedestrian bridge which is a pretty cool experience.

Bathrooms available on the upper camping loop, but the showers are located on the bottom loop (three family style showers).  Fantastic water pressure.

Host was friendly even when he had to tell us we couldn't hang hammocks in National Park campgrounds.

While you're there drive down to Alley Spring for a nice hike, another beautiful spring and historic mill, and at the camp store you can get a National Parks Passport stamp (located in the screened in porch) for the Ozark National Scenic Riverways.

We stayed in site 13 which is located directly behind the bathrooms. Good if you have to go all the time, bad if you don't like to hear loud toilet flushes.  Very shady site.

    Guide to Pomona

Camping near Pomona offers diverse riverside and wooded sites across southern Missouri's Ozark region. Positioned at 1,120 feet elevation, Pomona experiences hot summers with temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F and mild winters, making spring and fall ideal for camping. The area's natural springs maintain consistent 58°F water temperatures year-round, creating unique swimming opportunities even during summer heat waves.

    What to do

Spring exploration: Blue Spring provides cold, crystal-clear water that's perfect for hot summer days. According to one visitor, "Blue Spring is beautiful and cold! Aside from the over zealous teenagers jumping into the spring it was a nice visit... There are so many areas to visit around the river this would be an excellent base camp or you could use it as a stop off on a float trip" (Blue Spring Backcountry Camping).

River activities: The North Fork River offers excellent opportunities for swimming, fishing and paddling near camping areas. As one camper notes, "The sites are private and shaded, lots of trees. Sites are right on the river so you can hear it rushing as you fall asleep. Beautiful scenery with good hiking nearby" (North Fork).

Visit historic sites: The Alley Spring Mill provides a fascinating glimpse into Ozark history. A camper shares, "The grounds were well kept and all the folks working their we're courteous, knowledgeable, and helpful. Very short drive to get to the spring & mill. Wouldn't call it a 'hike' but a very nice path to take a stroll on a loop at the mill" (Alley Spring Campground).

    What campers like

Riverside access: Many campsites allow direct water entry. One Twin Bridges camper explains, "We rented a double kayak for only $44 floating from Hebron down to Twin Bridges. It was a nice flow and on our way down the river, we were able to access our campsite right off the water to drop off supplies before returning our kayak" (Twin Bridges Canoe Campground).

Natural settings: The region's mature forests provide ample shade at many campgrounds. A camper at North Fork notes, "The hubs and I went to North Fork campgrounds April 25-28th and we were the only campers there... The sites are HUGE and spacious... Nighttime was magical. It was absolutely silent besides the sounds of nature and the river. Our favorite part was the THOUSANDS of fireflies."

Clean facilities: Campgrounds maintain good standards despite rural locations. At Road Runner RV Park, a visitor observed, "We found the park easy to navigate (no tight turns). Large semi paved spaces... Good separation between sites with picnic tables, no shade but they do have a dog park. Hookups were easy to reach and appeared to be in good repair" (Road Runner RV Park).

    What you should know

Dog friendly campgrounds near Pomona often have specific regulations. At Ozarks Mountain Springs RV Park, one reviewer notes, "Plenty of potty spots for the babies scattered throughout the park and a 25 acre trail area. John, the owner, is a great guy! Friendly and welcoming, he keeps the park well maintained" (Ozarks Mountain Springs RV Park).

Seasonal closures: Many facilities operate limited schedules. "North Fork has a season from May 15 to December 1" while other recreation areas like Blue Spring remain open but with reduced services during winter months.

Limited cell service: Prepare for connectivity gaps throughout the region. One camper advises, "Make sure you get a paper map because phone signal can be iffy" when exploring springs around Eminence, MO.

Wildlife awareness: Bears and other wildlife frequent camping areas. Proper food storage in pet-friendly zones is essential to prevent unwanted encounters.

    Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly water features: Look for gradual river entries. A visitor shares, "Great swimming for adults and kids, has a really nice spring and all" at North Fork Recreation Area's Hammond Mill area.

Activity options: Many campgrounds offer more than just camping. A Twin Bridges visitor notes, "Family friendly, secluded, rv sites overlooking the water. So many Amenities here. There is a restaurant and bar, recreation for kids!"

Spacious sites: Choose campgrounds with room for children to play safely. At Cloud 9 Ranch, a multi-generation visitor explains, "I'm 42 & I've been going to Cloud 9 Ranch since I was 8-10 yrs old. It certainly was a different place back in the day.. It's still a blast, just in more modern ways" (Cloud 9 Ranch).

    Tips from RVers

Full-time accommodations: Some parks cater to extended stays. A Road Runner visitor observed, "Mostly full-timers but even though they have 18 people on the waiting list for a full time spot still they reserve several pull throughs for short term guests."

Spring/fall advantages: Consider shoulder seasons for better availability. One RVer noted, "We reserved a pull thru for an overnight stay between Memphis and Springfield, MO. This was right on the highway, but no road noise. Check in was super easy, full hook ups and easy in and out."

Pet-friendly considerations: When seeking dog friendly camping options near Pomona, one reviewer recommends Ozarks Mountain Springs: "This campground was wonderful! We needed a tent site for one night and we ended up getting a whole grove of trees to ourselves! The atmosphere was light and fun and the people rocked! Very clean bathrooms and showers."
