    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Lake Wappapello State Park's pet-friendly campgrounds offer electric and non-electric sites for tent and RV camping across two distinct areas. Both Asher Creek and Ridge Campground welcome pets on leashes throughout the camping areas and trails. Campsites at Asher Creek provide spectacular lakefront views with clean facilities, while Ridge Campground features more wooded sites with varied terrain. Beaver Lake Recreation Area provides free dispersed camping where pets can accompany owners, though campers should be prepared for ticks in the forest areas. Camelot RV Campground near Poplar Bluff features full hookup sites with water, sewer, electric (30/50 amp), and cable TV for RV campers with pets. The campground is well-maintained with mature trees throughout, offering a clean, quiet environment for overnight stays with animals. Most campgrounds in the region maintain standard pet policies requiring leashes and proper waste disposal.

Mark Twain National Forest's Pinewoods Lake Recreation Area permits pets throughout the camping areas with minimal facilities, ideal for more primitive camping experiences with dogs. Campers report encountering wildlife including wild pigs in some forest camping areas, making proper leash control essential for pet safety. The lake access points at Wappapello State Park provide excellent opportunities for dogs that enjoy swimming, with Asher Creek campsites offering direct water views and lake access. The bath houses at Asher Creek are exceptionally clean, while Ridge Campground's facilities are older and sometimes less maintained. During peak summer months, the humidity and heat require consideration for pet comfort, with electric sites offering the ability to run air conditioning. Campgrounds near Poplar Bluff generally experience lower occupancy during weekdays, even in summer months, providing quieter experiences for campers with pets that may be sensitive to crowds or noise.

      Camelot RV Campground/RV Park

      Beautiful little campground

We stayed here in April of 2026.  The park managers were very nice and helpful.  The facilities were clean.  The showers were closed when we were there but the restrooms were clean.  They are pet friendly but you had to walk your dog to the area along the road, the bar ditch, for all potty activities.  We really enjoyed Poplar Bluffs and would stay here again.

      Peoples Creek - Lake Wappapello

On my top ten RV places

20.00 a night. The spaces are big with fire pits and barbeques at every site. Trees cover every site so your in shade all day. The hosts were very friendly. Walk to the swimming beach and boat ramp. The showers are huge. But it's dark don't go out at night without a flashlight. I got lost looking for my rv, walked around and around. Nice motorcycle ride around the lake. The only stores are gas stations and 1 dollar general so stop before you come here. Poplar bluff is only 12 miles away.

      Camelot RV Campground/RV Park

      Clean, quiet and convenient

I don’t normally stay in these types of campgrounds, but this was a pleasant overnight stay and reasonably priced for full hookups at $35. Plus they have propane for sale and a little store on site. The campground is open year round and there looks to be some year round residents, but it’s a clean, well tended campground and the care the owners give it is apparent.

The camp hosts were efficient and helpful. I was led directly to the site and was literally guided in by one camp host. Another sent me a welcome message via a camping group to which I belong. Nice touches.

The campground sits on a hill so the sites are terraced and there are mature trees everywhere. The trash bins were located up the hill from my site. Not a problem for me to access, but someone with mobility issues might find the location less than ideal. Perhaps you could drive to them. I found the campground roads navigable but narrow, and they appeared to be one way, but I didn’t see markings. So it could be confusing to figure out how to drive there.

My site was gravel, fairly level and the hook ups were conveniently located and in great condition. Some of the sites are spaced apart rather tightly. They each come with a picnic bench. There are larger sites and pull thru sites available too.

The highlight for me is the convenient location of this campground as a layover on the way to another destination. That being said, Poplar Bluff looked like it would be an interesting little town to visit at some point and perhaps Camelot would serve as a good jumping off point for this and other points of interest in the area as well. I wish the checkout was at noon instead of 11 am, but that’s just my personal preference.

      I would stay here again.

Big Spring Campground — Ozark National Scenic Riverway

      Memories of Days Gone By

The people of Missouri gave a wonderful gift to the people of the United States.  A gift I did not know about or had never heard of till we made the decision to camp in Missouri.

Big Springs was Missouri's first state park.  The CCC did a lot of construction on the park and so much of the buildings are still there.  In much need of repair and I do hope the federal government will restore.  Big Spring is off of Missouri Highway 160.  Turn onto State Route 103 to Big Spring.  The spring has a wheelchair accessible pathway that will lead right to the spring.

The campground is large and open.  Tent sites along with with RV sites but the RV sites are small and very close together.  Some RV sites had electric but no water or sewer.  There is a dump site.  During the summer I think I would get a reservation for the RV sites if you need electric.  If you have the ability to generate your own electric stay in the open tent site area.  The tent site area is large and open to the sun.  Big Springs has flush toilets and hot showers.

There are picnic areas with tables and grills scattered throughout the park along with two group shelters.

The Ranger programs are well worth checking out.  Take advantage.

The Current River makes a wonderful backdrop for nature lovers.  You have the options of hiking, biking, fishing, camping, floating, kayaking, and all sorts of boating with a ramp in the park.

      Greene Road Camp Dispersed

      Decent Overnight Stay

This spot we stayed at just overnight. Way out in the country, very quiet. No service; if you’re traveling full time and need internet connection. We had a strange experience with a local speeding by and his dog was loose running side by side with the vehicle; drove up and down this road a couple of times and felt bad for the dog — he had a collar but seemed like he can just roam free. It was odd. Just fyi if you have pets! There are only 3 spots here and one is a memorial for a woman who passed away. MOSQUITO CITY, bring bug spray!

Sam A. Baker State Park Campground

      Perfect for family camping

We love it here. Sites that can accommodate tents and/or RVs. Its clean and well maintained. Multiple access points to the water. Educational programs and entertainment of some sort most every weekend. Pet friendly.

      Hinton RV Park

      Shower, Sleep, and Power

The older man in the office was kind and helpful. The facility allotted pets, sewer, water, and electric hook up. If had a few mature trees but mainly a place to catch-up before heading off again.

      Rocky River Resort

      Rocky River Resort

We spend the whole summer here and couldn’t ask for a more friendly place! It’s perfect, from being right on the water to allowing pets! They provide everything needed to float but your cooler and food! They will carry you up river and your float ends at the campground! Been coming here 30 years and counting!

      Bearcat Getaway

Really nice campground on the black river

I totally recommend this place ! It’s really nice place and the owners were really nice. We had a whole entire camp area to ourselves ! It’s right on the river. They have a little store, running water, decent bathrooms with hot showers and a playground. It’s an affordable place and family/pet friendly and the have horse stables there for your use if needed.

    Guide to Poplar Bluff

Beaver Lake Recreation Area offers free dispersed camping with pet-friendly sites located in a wooded setting west of Poplar Bluff. Campers with dogs can access drive-in and walk-in camping spots approximately 15 miles from town, though the area has limited facilities with no drinking water, hookups, or restrooms. Lake Wappapello State Park provides two pet-friendly campground options—Ridge Campground and Asher Creek Campground—both featuring electric hookups, clean restroom facilities, and picnic tables at each site. Dogs must be leashed throughout the park, including on the hiking trails that connect the campgrounds to the lake shore. Camelot RV Campground welcomes pets with full-hookup sites including water, sewer, and electric connections. The ticks can be numerous during warm months, and visitors report occasional wild pig sightings in the Beaver Lake area.

The lake-front sites at Asher Creek Campground provide excellent views and direct water access for dogs that enjoy swimming, though pet owners should note the limited shade at lakeside spots during summer months. Multiple hiking trails throughout Lake Wappapello State Park allow leashed dogs, with several paths connecting the Ridge Campground to the shore. Pinewoods Lake Recreation Area in Mark Twain National Forest offers additional pet-friendly camping options with more primitive conditions for those seeking a less developed experience. Campers frequently mention the clean bathroom facilities at Lake Wappapello as a highlight, particularly in the Asher Creek loop where the bathhouse is newer and well-maintained. Poplar Bluff's veterinary services are approximately 15-20 minutes from both Lake Wappapello and Beaver Lake camping areas, providing emergency care options if needed during a camping trip.
