    Brazil Creek Camping Area

Free to stay, no water, no gray dump, no garbage

It's a free place to park and stand the night. The campground does not have any water, grey dump, or garbage. So it is primitive camping.

There are lots of insects that will attack you on your walk, too...

Meramec Valley Campground & RV Park

    Peaceful and quiet

My cousin invited us to this particular campground and my wife fell in love with it. It truly felt like a campground regardless of the amenities they have to offer.

    Froggys River Resort

Not as nice as the other options

This "resort" is just a basic campground.  There's no place to dump your camper's tank, which you'd expect at the prices they charge.  The owner is in some sort of a feud with the residents that live around the campground, so now one of them fires a shotgun off every half hour, and another one blasts revelry early in the morning.  Nothing scary, but I didn't like knowing that we were right next to residents...certainly wouldn't want a campground in my back yard.

Otherwise, it's mediocre.  Depending on the time of year, the river can be quite low, so be sure to check the forecast before planning a stay.  It was only about 6 inches deep when I was there.  The Gasconade Hills campground is just down the road and was a much better experience.

    Gasconade Hills Resort

Bad wifi and even worse owners

Drove 4 hours and spent 300 dollars on a cabin. We placed a small Bluetooth speaker in front of our cabin and relaxed with a drink. After playing music for 20 mins the owner storms over and screams at me to turn it down. Its 8 pm and the music isn't turned up I tell him he said it's his place and his prerogative if it's too loud. I asked him to show me where it said I can't play music. He said quiet time is 10 pm. I said it's 8. He told me not to argue with him as if im his kid or his employee or something.  He told me he was going to eject me if I continued to argue. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Save your money and go somewhere the owners respect you. Lots of places who appreciate your business to give this place any business.

Guide to Edgar Springs

Camping spots near Edgar Springs, Missouri offer opportunities for outdoor recreation on streams and rivers that run through the Mark Twain National Forest. The area sits at approximately 1,200 feet elevation in the northern Ozarks, characterized by rolling hills, limestone features, and spring-fed waterways. Winter temperatures can drop below freezing, while summer camping often requires heat management with temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F from June through August.

What to do

Fishing for trout: Montauk State Park Campground features excellent trout fishing in its spring-fed waters. "There is some hiking but everyone was fishing, canoeing, or swimming. Good big state park campground. We stayed at the larger family camping area. Full RV options," notes Dan N. about Montauk State Park Campground.

Explore local springs: Maramec Spring Park contains one of Missouri's largest springs with impressive water flow. "The park contains the fifth largest spring in the state. An average of 100 million gallons of water flows from the Spring daily," explains Joel R. about Maramec Spring Park.

Hiking forest trails: Paddy Creek Recreation Area provides access to hiking trails through the Mark Twain National Forest. "Stayed at this campground as a halfway point hiking the Big Piney Trail loop. Typical primitive campground with toilets, bear-proof trash cans, and camp sites with fire rings and picnic tables," shares Josh C.

What campers like

Quiet natural settings: Campers appreciate the peaceful environment at Paddy Creek Recreation Area. "Quiet, friendly area with very primitive camping. Creek is spring fed so water is always cooler than most creeks," says Aaron T. about Paddy Creek Recreation Area.

River access from campsites: Boiling Springs Campground offers direct access to the Gasconade River. "This camp ground is a little hidden gem and so pretty! They make shuttling your personal watercraft SO easy! This camp area is very clean and family friendly! The river was pretty!" writes Allie A. about Boiling Springs Campground.

Convenient amenities: Several campgrounds offer full hookups and amenities. "Small, quaint, quiet 8 site campground located on a hay farm. Late in the day booking, hosts were very responsive by text & e-mail. $30 overnight w/ full hookups. Great trails around pond, meadow/field & creek," notes Annaliese M. about Haven Hollow RV Park.

What you should know

Seasonal flooding concerns: Some camping areas experience flooding during heavy rain. "Prone to flooding. Campsites 49 and 50 will be covered in water even with a little rain," warns Chuck H. about Maramec Spring Park.

Limited cell service: Many forest campgrounds have minimal connectivity. "No cell service at campground. Had to drive up the hill to get a signal," reports Cheryl M. about Paddy Creek Recreation Area.

Reservation requirements: Popular campgrounds fill quickly during peak seasons. "Sites do go quickly so you will need to book months in advance," advises Kyle H. about Montauk State Park Campground.

Vehicle size limitations: Forest roads and campsite designs restrict large RVs. "Parking pads are short and lined with huge boulders. Worked fine for our 16ft TT big rigs probably not so much," explains Cheryl M.

Tips for camping with families

Spring exploration: Lane Spring Recreation Area offers accessible water features for children. "The sound of the creek running right behind my camp site felt so soothing. I wish I could have stayed a few more nights; this place was a little bit of magic," shares Erin about Lane Spring Recreation Area.

Swimming holes: Many campgrounds have designated swimming areas. "There is a spring on the opposite side of the river that is fairly easy to swim to that is a thrill to swim through. It's ice cold!" notes Elisha P. about Boiling Springs Campground.

Kid-friendly programs: Some parks offer structured activities. "We didn't take advantage of it, but there were a lot of activities aimed at kids. Great mix of modern campground and nature experience," reports Dan N.

Tips from RVers

Site selection guidance: RV campers recommend specific sites for easier access. "We had a great spot, for our 42' motorhome and truck. It was a pull through and easy to get into," recommends Roxanna L. about Doolittle Acres RV Park and Campground.

Hookup availability: Different campgrounds offer varying levels of services. "This place is really awesome! One of our favorite stops all year. Full hookups, level pad, clean, and quiet," reports Deborah C. about Haven Hollow RV Park.

Road conditions: Access roads can be challenging for larger rigs. "The last 1.5 miles is gravel and it was a little dusty coming in if that is an issue for you, it wasn't for us. Once we got to this small CG with 8 back-in sites, we were delighted on how nice Haven Hollow was set up," shares MickandKarla W.
