Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Brookline, MO

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Springfield Route 66 KOA accommodates pets at all camping options, including tent sites, RV spots, cabins, and glamping tents. The campground features multiple fenced dog runs where pets can exercise off-leash. All pet-friendly sites include water hookups, picnic tables, and fire rings, with most offering full hookups for RVs. Several feral cats roam the grounds, which may interest or concern dog owners depending on their pets' temperament. The campground maintains clean facilities with recently updated bathrooms and offers convenient amenities like pizza delivery directly to campsites and fresh mini donuts available each morning.

Cooks RV Motor Park and Hootentown Canoe Rental & Campground also welcome pets with varying amenities. At Hootentown, dogs can access the water for swimming during warmer months while remaining on leash in common areas. Train tracks run adjacent to the Route 66 KOA with frequent horn-blowing crossings that may disturb noise-sensitive pets, especially at night. The campground's tall, mature trees create a shaded environment that helps keep pets comfortable during hot weather. Most campgrounds in the Brookline area enforce standard leash policies except within designated dog areas, and guests should bring proof of current vaccinations when traveling with pets. Some campgrounds provide pet waste stations throughout the grounds to maintain cleanliness.

Branson Treehouse Cabin & RV Park

    Quiet, Centrally Located, Large Sites

We really enjoyed our stay here! It was the week after Labor Day and was mostly vacant, making for a quiet stay. Love the amenities for kids! The only reason I give 4 stars is the dog policy— it’s very strict, and there isn’t a dog park type area to let pets off leash to play & get energy out.

Sugar Camp Lookout Tower Dispersed Area

    Peaceful Retreat

My husband and I rented our first camper van to see if short trips meant to create memories are do-able in a camper van, for us. 1000% yes.

This was our first experience and got exactly what was described. The road was bumpy but we had zero problems with our 4x4 rig.

Sunsets and sunrises were stunning!!! Great fall retreat. We even met a stray cat we wish we could have taken home with us. Poor thing is starving. She will come if calls and purrs when petted. We named her “Sugar” after the location.

There seems to be a private off-road recreation area that provided moderate traffic. We were kind of tucked back a bit from the road and it didn’t bother us.

    Springfield - Route 66 KOA

    Great Service But Smaller Sites

Of all the KOAs I have visited I was very eager to check out this one.  Close to Springfield and not to far from the turn off to Wilson Creek Battlefield this one just kinda made sense for a visit.

When I ventured to check it out I quickly noticed that the site spacing was not the best when it came to the RVs, it looked claustrophobic.   When it came to the tent sites I felt a bit more like I could breathe and stretch out.   Kind of strange that this was the case as usually the RV section at a KOA is more accommodating, in my own personal experiences.

The staff was very friendly and helpful and the overall amenities were pretty inclusive.   Some of course obvious upgrades coming at additional charges while others were standard.

In true KOA fashion there is WIFI, which I personally always welcome because I work remotely and sometimes do not have the best of signal.    Additionally they had standard features such as a dog park area, playground for the kiddos and a pool, although the pool is not open year round like some.

A few things that were a bit less common however, they had a pet play room which was pretty cool and though I don't travel with my pets found it to be a very friendly touch.    I also noticed that in addition to snacks you could pick up in the store they also had pizza during certain times if you were not wanting to use your own kitchen or the common space camp kitchens.

I was pretty impressed overall but with all the good there were those claustrophobic rv sites I just couldn't get past and the pricing of a KOA always hurts the pockets a bit more even with them being nice and the common kitchen area I was attempting to use and had a few issues, this could have been just when I was visiting so I don't want to completely hold that against them but it was having issued.

    TIPS:

    * Visit Wilson's Creek Battlefield to explore, learn and hike.  When you come to this KOA it obviously does not have any hiking, but the battlefield offers a lengthy system of trails .* Bass Pro's home is Springfield, MO so you will not only find the largest Bass Pro there but also a unique museum of all animals which is quite spectacular.

    Branson Lakeside RV Park

Great RV park right on the river

Great atmosphere and sooo close to the Branson landing for dinner/shopping but also right on the river for a great day on the boat. Just a bit down river from Lily’s Landing (bait shop and a fun stop in for the kids to grab a snack). Walking distance to a park with play ground and two separate dog park areas (one fenced one open). Definitely an “RV PARK” nothing secluded about it if that’s what you’re looking for... very close to neighboring site and even in off season it was packed full the weekend we went. The sites along the river side had great big fire pits too.

Ashley here from The Dyrt! We’re excited to have this new partner online. This park is dog friendly with a dog park and offers a large community fire-pit (among other things.) Check them out and leave them some love.

    Springfield - Route 66 KOA

    Great place to stay

My wife and our children stayed here in the summer while we traveled for work and we were extremely pleased with both the grounds and the staff. They have great amenities and clean facilities as well as washers and dryers. They were so accommodating. The only drawback is a train close by. They have a small gated dog park and I huge open field. They have a seasonal swimming pool, kids playground, game room and few more things to keep the kids busy. Good WiFi and a shop that sells/makes/delivers pizza to your campsite. We will be visiting again in the future definitely.

    Big Red Barn RV Park

Very convenient, super clean and quiet

We overnighted here on the way to Hot Springs, AR.  Convenient to Interstate 49, but virtually no traffic noise and none while inside the van.  We arrived after the office had closed - there was a prominent note on the door as to which site to use.   Electrical hookup was fine - we did not use water or cable.  There were about a dozen other  campers - most appeared to be long termers.  The CG was VERY quiet - very peaceful.  They have an off-leash dog park area which our dogs loved and used it 3-4 times the nite we were there.  The bathrooms were toasty warm and VERY clean.  Lavatory hot water got warm quickly, plenty of soap and towels.  The office has various items for sale, from snacks to RV gear.  Would not hesitate to stay again - in fact, may do so next week on our return trip.

What to Do

Great campground along river bank. 3 spots to putin upstream quick easy shuttle by float service business with lots of canoes and kayaks to rent," explains Steve A.

What Campers Like

Farm experiences: B Berry Farms & Co. offers unique camping with berry picking opportunities. "My girlfriend and I stayed here during our road-trip through MO. The owners Brandon and Theresa were very accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed. We enjoyed picking black berries right next to our campsite to have with breakfast in the morning," shares Nick S.

Amenities: Campgrounds provide varying levels of conveniences. "The KOA is clean with wonderful parks and a nice pool. It was a great place to stay while driving to our destination," according to Courtney G.

What You Should Know

Train noise: Multiple campgrounds are located near train tracks. "It has great sights and sounds, fun caves to discover and many other things as well. Would highly recommend!" states Nikki H. about Cobb Ridge, which isn't affected by train noise unlike some other locations.

Site spacing: Some RV parks have limited space between sites. "Of all the KOAs I have visited I was very eager to check out this one. When I ventured to check it out I quickly noticed that the site spacing was not the best when it came to the RVs, it looked claustrophobic," reports Crystal C.

Weather preparation: The Ozarks can experience sudden weather changes, particularly in spring and fall. "If it's been raining a lot it does tend to get muddy, we don't have 4WD and got stuck, luckily some others there did and helped us out," warns Christiana T. about Hootentown Campground.

Tips for Camping with Families

Dog friendly campgrounds near Brookline: Most facilities welcome pets with specific areas for exercise. "This campsite is laid out nicely. Our spot had electricity and was all by itself tucked in the back corner which was perfect! We were a cpl min away from the River which made for a beautiful walk!" shares Linze K.

The farm is beautiful and trails are a wonderful walk through some beautiful nature. There is a bathroom on site and beautiful campsites with all that is needed for a great stay!" comments James G. about B Berry Farms.

Reservation planning: Many campgrounds fill quickly during peak seasons. "We arrived having booked a reservation online for a campsite nearly a week prior to the date, but were told 'good luck finding your site, someone else is probably already there' by the girl at check-in," warns Jennifer H. about busy periods at Hootentown.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling: Check specific site conditions before setting up. "The sites are well spaced and there is plenty of shade. Full hookups and excellent WiFi," notes Bill P. about Cooks RV Motor Park.

Utility connections: Most RV parks offer full hookups but with varying capabilities. "The staff was very friendly and the camp was clean. We got in late and the owners stayed up to usher us in. Really nice folks. Roomy pull throughs," reports Josie Mae A. about Cooks RV Motor Park.

Access considerations: Some parks have challenging entry points. "The exit to get out is a hill with gravel so again not having 4WD that was a little tricky, the visibility is also not great because of curves so you just have to hope people aren't going too fast," cautions Christiana T. about Hootentown.
