    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Lansing Cottonwood Campground provides pet-friendly primitive sites in a wooded area 15 miles from Dimondale, accommodating both tent and RV campers with dogs. The campground permits pets on all sites with standard leash requirements while offering full hookup options and water access. Campsites include picnic tables and fire rings with firewood available for purchase. The primitive sites feature ample tree cover and space for multiple hammocks, creating natural separation between camping areas. Overnight wildlife activity includes raccoons that have been known to access food storage bins with unsecured latches. Pets must remain supervised at all times and owners should properly dispose of waste in designated trash receptacles.

Lake Interstate State Game Area presents conflicting information regarding dispersed camping with pets. While the area permits pets, Michigan state law prohibits camping between May 15 and September 10 except in specifically designated camping areas, which are not clearly marked on official maps. The large parking area provides access to hiking trails and the lake, with some visitors reporting overnight stays without issue. Other pet-friendly options include Sleepy Hollow State Park Campground, Fort Custer Recreation Area, and Wheel Inn Campground, all within reasonable driving distance. These established campgrounds offer more predictable accommodations with designated pet areas, proper waste facilities, and access to water for both recreation and pet hydration. The Eaton County Fairgrounds campground, located in Charlotte just minutes from Dimondale, features wooded sites with full hookups for $20 nightly and an onsite bathhouse with showers.

      Holiday RV Campground

      Nice Park

Nice park for full timers. Large spots to accommodate big rigs and kids. Full hook ups. Cell service great with Verizon hotspot (22u, 20d, 38ms and AT&T cell(27d, 20u, 27ms). Playgrounds everywhere for the kids. Giant dog park and ponds. Pool was closed. Just needs more grass. Our spot was really patchy and resulted in a lot of mud.

Great campground with polite and helpful staff. Don’t pass this one up.

      Cold Brook County Park

      Nice little county park!

29 campsites pretty close together with old growth trees interspersed around the campground. Fishing pier and boating, playground area, and beach. No longer has primitive camping. Some hiking trails...short. is next to a busy road, so traffic all night. Staff was great! Showers and bathrooms cleaned multiple times a day. Pet friendly. Would stay here again!

      Snow Lake Kampground

      Very organized but busy campground

They were very organized at this campground. Every weekend they have a theme. We stayed when they had the country western weekend. They had all kinds of stuff going on for kids. Pony rides, wagon rides, petting zoo, games and activities. They also had a country music concert in the park one evening. The pool was very nice, but we found at times it was extremely busy. It would of been nice if they had a swimming area on the lake but they didn’t. This is a Christian campground so they are very strict on alcohol consumption. On your site only, but not allowed anywhere else in the park. Overall we had an enjoyable stay.

      Camp Turkeyville RV Resort

Angela in the front office hates people!

This campground would be a 5 star campground. However;as always there’s that one person that makes it a 3 or2. She must be the owners daughter or Neice. I expressed to her that her behavior and curse words along with her statements were not appreciated and she said “ write a review so I can read it and laugh at it” Very trashy lady who made you feel like your just a burden on her.

Besides that. Place had pool, kids pad. Laundry, family showers, individual showers” very clean and nice. Mini Petting farm, train ride and an entire little small village dedicated to entertainment of camping. This is a nice place but beware of the village idiot. She is very unbecoming and impolite by all means.

      Sleepy Hollow State Park Campground

      Sleepy, as i call it...

Quietly tucked into Clinton co Michigan. Sleepy is easily accessible. Its close to Lansing. There are shopping centers nearby. Country party store is closer!! Very large lake....Ovid is her name! Offers many species of fish for catching!! There are fishing docks, ONE IS NOT VERY ACCESSIBLE TO NON AMBULATORY PERSONS !!! THIS ONE'S IN THE CAMP AREA! The path is nicely groomed. The bea h is a long way from the parking lot a d there is no beach access from camp. The park is usually a clean family place...but for really young children or elderly persons it may. Ot be your first choice. I live nearby and have camped there zillions of times. I love it and shower bouses in camp are clean! Friendly staff a d they ate SERIOUS about quiet time! Bug spray required !!

Deep Lake Rustic Campground — Yankee Springs Recreation Area

      Beautiful Location

First time in central Michigan and it was absolutely beautiful. The campground has a great location and lots of mountain bike and hiking trails. Firewood is not available on site but is at a local convenience store. Boat launch is available at Deep Lake just down the path in the campground. We had 3 locations right next to a playground and we'd probably choose others next time.

    Guide to Dimondale

Camping options near Dimondale, Michigan span across several nearby counties within 30 minutes of town. The region features predominantly hardwood forests with elevations ranging between 800-900 feet above sea level. Summer temperatures average 75-85°F during peak camping season, with higher humidity levels during July and August when insect activity increases near waterways.

    What to do

Mountain biking trails: Fort Custer Recreation Area offers extensive trail networks specifically designed for mountain bikers. "We loved the trails for Mountain Bikes that are close to the Campsite! They are super fun!!" notes Maria G., who visited Bruin Lake Campground.

Kayaking on quiet lakes: Multiple recreation areas feature no-wake lakes ideal for paddling. At Ionia State Recreation Area, visitors appreciate the "beautiful no wake lake! Great for kyaking. Scenic views on trails around the lake. Not too far so the kids can fallow along," according to Jo H.

Fishing opportunities: The region offers multiple fishing spots across connected waterways. Rockey's Campground sits "on a chain of 5 lakes and has some of the best fishing," according to Keely B., who visits annually for Memorial Day.

Disc golf courses: Several parks maintain disc golf facilities alongside other amenities. Ionia Recreation Area features "so many great outdoor activities for almost anyone. There is a disc golf course, mountain bike trail, equestrian trails, hiking trails," as Joshua E. reports.

    What campers like

Shaded primitive sites: Campers appreciate wooded sites that provide natural cooling. At Lansing Cottonwood Campground, Martin W. notes it's "Not a bad place to go camping without having to leave the city. Good for a close and convenient camping trip with friends and/or family."

Accessibility to town: Many sites offer proximity to urban amenities while maintaining a natural setting. Melanie P. describes Cottonwood Campground as "right in the capital of Lansing, Mi but you feel as though you are in the middle of the country. The primitive sites are set off in the back with plenty of shade and peace and quiet."

Affordable options: Budget-conscious campers can find reasonable rates at nearby facilities. The Eaton County Fairgrounds offers "Only $20 nightly, full hookup, nice wooded sites" according to Northstorm T., who adds it's "Very peaceful when there are no ongoing events."

Swimming areas: Family-friendly beaches provide recreation opportunities during summer months. Joshua E. notes that at Ionia, "The beach is fantastic especially for little kids who might not be the best swimmers ready for Lake Michigan or lakes with lots of boats and waves to deal with. Nice and sandy and a nice store and ice cream shop at the beach."

    What you should know

Seasonal restrictions: Some public lands have specific camping prohibitions during summer months. At Lake Interstate State Game Area, Cailin S. warns, "Per michigan laws: STATE LAND RULE – GAME AREAS – EXCERPT(S) 926 On state game or wildlife areas it is unlawful to: • Camp between May 15 and September 10, except in areas specifically designated for camping."

Site variations: Campgrounds often feature a mix of open and wooded sites with varying levels of privacy. At Sleepy Hollow State Park Campground, Nick W. notes, "Most electrical posts are designed to accommodate at least 2 adjoining lots, and as many as 4. This in itself is not a concern until you realize the posts are way too far away to reach without an extension."

Weekend events: Some campgrounds host regular activities that may increase visitor traffic. Mary T. mentions that Cottonwood Campground has a "Softball diamond that has tournaments on weekends a little early start for the full hook up sites."

Wildlife encounters: Campers should prepare for typical Michigan woodland creatures. Beth S. reports at Cottonwood, "Spiders came out at alarming numbers, mostly daddy long legs and the night before, raccoons had gotten into our food storage bins by undoing the side latches on them."

    Tips for camping with families

Swimming beaches: Many parks offer dedicated swimming areas with amenities for children. At Sleepy Hollow State Park Campground, Stephanie C. notes, "There is a beach and playground, but it is quite the walk from the campground. Plan to drive or bike ride if you have trouble walking long distances."

Special events: Look for parks with scheduled activities. Stephanie adds, "Every year they put together an awesome Halloween trick or treat weekend, but be sure to book the day of six months before because otherwise you will not get a site."

Site selection: Choose camping areas based on proximity to facilities when traveling with children. Rachel P. suggests researching at Ionia: "I did some research ahead of time to find a more private camping spot, and ours did not disappoint. After looking around the campground, there were numerous spots that were very secluded and private."

Off-peak scheduling: Consider non-summer visits for more space and fewer crowds at pet-friendly camping near Dimondale. Fort Custer Recreation Area is open year-round, providing opportunities for quieter camping experiences during spring and fall seasons.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup limitations: Understand electrical service types before booking. At Fort Custer Recreation Area, VB S. points out that "Sites have electrical service only. Must use the dump station."

Dump station timing: Plan accordingly for facilities with limited hookups. Bob B. notes about Fort Custer, "Since there are no water or sewer hook ups, lines at the dump/fill station can get long."

Spacing considerations: Research site dimensions for larger rigs. Joey H. found at Cottonwood Campground that "Our site was small and we were sitting very close to a not so nice set up, maybe a seasonal? No one was there."

Fairgrounds alternative: Consider county fairgrounds for basic amenities and lower costs when RVing with pets near Dimondale. Joann S. shares about Eaton County Fairgrounds, "My husband and I had a wonderful experience the website was well informed; pull in and pick your own site and the site manager will come by and collect your money for night stayed."
