Best Cabin Camping near Covert, MI

Cabin options near Covert, Michigan include both rustic and fully furnished accommodations across several campgrounds. Covert/South Haven KOA Holiday offers cabin rentals with electricity, beds, and private space away from tent and RV sites. The cabins feature basic furnishings with varying levels of amenities depending on cabin type. "Our family who are not necessarily 'outdoorsy' love that they can sleep in an air conditioned cabin with cable," notes a regular visitor. Warren Dunes State Park Campground also provides cabin options for those seeking Lake Michigan proximity, though with more basic amenities than the privately operated sites.

Depending on the campground, cabin rentals range from basic one-room structures to more deluxe accommodations with separate sleeping areas. Most cabins require advance reservations, especially during summer months when lakeside properties fill quickly. Covert/South Haven KOA operates from April to October, limiting cabin availability to the warmer seasons. Pets are permitted in select cabins at most locations, though policies vary by site. A visitor mentioned, "This KOA has always been a reliable camp spot. The South Haven beaches are just a short twenty minute drive away!"

Most cabin rentals provide beds with mattresses but require guests to bring their own bedding, pillows, and towels. Kitchen facilities vary widely—some include only outdoor fire rings and picnic tables while others offer mini-refrigerators and microwaves. Campground stores at locations like the KOA sell basic provisions, firewood, and some food items. The KOA even offers food delivery service, as one camper noted: "We ordered food from the store and they brought it right to our site." When planning extended stays, most visitors stock up in South Haven or Benton Harbor where full-service grocery stores are available.

    Kal-Haven Outpost

Great place to bike to, spacious cabins, amazing staff

A group of us bike from Kalamazoo to South Haven every year using the Kal-Haven trail. We usually tent camp but tried a cabin here this year. It was the perfect option as the campground is right off the trail. They provide linens and have basic supplies (including firewood that they will deliver to your cabin) right at the general store. We also met a group that had hiked in to the primative sites and were using the trail to train for the Appalachian Trail. Everything is well-made and maintained, and the staff is friendly and helpful (they even let us check-in early when we biked in ahead of schedule). Highly recommend for those looking for a place close to the trail and to South Haven. The cabins have three queen beds and a sofa sleeper so they can comfortably hold up to eight people (we had five in our group and I never felt crowded). There's a large table inside and two chairs on the porch. There's also a large picnic table outside, a fire pit, and a grill. They are hoping to expand and add cabins sized for couples in the near future.

    Thousand Trails Bear Cave

    Great Campground

This is a nice, family friendly campground. Lots of very friendly other campers, a heated pool, playground for the kids, nice size lots with fire pits, picnic tables, electric& water (including at tent sites). Pool has an ADA lift chair. 2 shower/bath houses, camp store, a real bear cave you can tour in (free), a creek that meanders through it. The resort sits on the St. Joseph river & this park has a boat ramp & dock for fishing. There is a gate that campers need a code to get into so it keeps out unwanted’s. Nice staff. Yolanda is a great manager. Security, a ‘honey wagon’. Laundry center. Quiet hours are 10p-8a. It’s near Buchanan Michigan and the RED BUD Motor Cross track. Very friendly people, always stopping and talking.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp Resort-South Haven, MI

This is my top pick for South Haven

Although this campground has great amenities, a pool, clean showers, and good sites/cabins, it is hard to book. If you know you are going to come to this area and camp, you need to book it a while in advance. I have used a pop-up and there was good space between campers. When I tent camped, we had a great spot near the cafe, the showers are amazing over there, they are more secluded. Our tent spot had electric, water, picnic table and fire ring. We camped on the grass and there is gravel to park your car. This campground is a perfect place to stay when visiting surrounding towns and going to the beach.

Don’t forget to go to Sherman’s!!

There was a forecast or rain, don’t mind the tarp

    Weko Beach Campground

    Great little campground

Couple minute walk to the beautiful Lake Michigan beach. Waist deep most areas, waves can get big tho. The campgrounds beach is NOT pet friendly, but there is a flat boardwalk that takes you to a pet friendly area of beach of neighboring Warren dunes state park. Clean easy to locate water/trash/office areas. Friendly staff. They check the loops frequently and keep things tidy. Sandy but drivable roads(be careful in a washout). Flat nice sized lots. Clean bathroom/shower house! (Males and females share showers, could be concerning during busy season). Peaceful and quiet. Loved everything about our trip. (Be warned the camping lots are sand too, you will have sand everywhere! But its worth it!)

    Eden Springs Park Campground

Pleasant, friendly, small town camp with large pull through spots

Eden Springs Campground & RV Park in Benton Harbor, Michigan, run by camp manager Cindy, may well be one of our favorite small town parks! We are spending the month of August 2018 here and have found the venue quiet, well maintained, friendly and inexpensive ($375 for a month). I do not expect the prices to stay this low now that it has been “discovered”. They are working on adding an updated restroom, dog park and other facilities. The sites are large, level and spaced far apart from each other. We pulled in with a 42’ rig, pulling a 28’ hybrid trailer (total 70’) and easily pulled into our site without having to unhook. We had enough space to park a jeep in front of and and in back of the attached rig. The sites are designed so that no camper or RV faces a sewer connection. All of the hook ups are centrally located between two sites, with each rig having their driver side towards the hookups and their awning/entry sides facing the opposing side. Each site has a gravel space between them that could be traveled through, though campers all set up picnic tables, chairs and campfires there so practically there is no egress, thus privacy. This camp has the best WiFi of any camp we have ever stayed at. Some spots offer OTA TV and satellite reception. Ours did not as we chose to have a full tree canopy. Most of the sites offer Full Hookups with 30/50 amp service. The camp manager, Cindy, provides fire rings and picnic tables as requested, so, if you need either, just let her know when you call. The tables were clean and in good shape. The fire rings can be placed anywhere you want. As an aside, when a camper leaves, Cindy and her crew comes and removes the rings, cleaning up the residue so there is no mess left! The campground grass is cut routinely and “weed-whacked” as needed. Cindy has been one of the nicest hosts we have met on our travels. She is always pleasant, available as needed for emergencies and even delivered our mail one afternoon. She is a font of knowledge about the area and willing to share. Probably in keeping with her personality, the majority of the visitors here have been friendly, chatty and willing to help each other. The RV resort is about 10 minutes from St. Joseph, MI and multiple rural wineries in the area (a favorite pastime for my wife Audrey). St. Joseph’s is a small town located on Lake Michigan with excellent food, event venues and a lovely white sand beach. Be sure to stop at the Chocolate store in town & Silver Lake Pizza for a desert/dinner well worth the time. The town of Benton Harbor itself once was booming city/community, which has come into hard times, but we did not have any problems traveling around that area. This area also has a non-defunct amusement park attached to the campground which is being slowly renovated by a group of volunteers. They have restored several of the buildings, a fountain and a miniature train which takes visitors on a 1/4 mile ride on Saturday/Sunday. Additionally, the camp is home to it’s own 1800’s era baseball team which plays home and away games in the old bare handed style! Behind the camp is a now mostly abandoned religious enclave called the House of David which was started in the late 1800’s/ early 1900’s (Google it!). Some interesting architecture and several restored mansions for the 5 remaining members of the group. I recommend this park for someone wanting a quiet, clean stay.

    Warren Dunes State Park Campground

    Amazing beach, family friendly campground

All Inclusive! If you love a campground 3 minutes from Lake Michigan with plenty of amenities, this is your place. The Mount Randall campground has 2 loops with all electric sites. The first loop on your left provides more privacy with pull in type shandy, sites. There are 2 or 3 small rustic cabins as well. The loop to the right, has more open sites that sit flat to the road. We camped here. Our 2 sites did not provide trees for hammocks or even a good laundry line. Both loops have a central bath house with individual showers opening off the central breezeway. There is a camp store with wood ice, snacks, fun stuff and things you forgot or never knew you needed! We visited during the pandemic and only 2 water pumps were available, but worked fine. There is a primitive/rustic campground as well and we may like that better as we prefer privacy and quiet over convenience.

The beach is a good one. There are 3 parking lots and plenty of sandy beach. You can climb the dunes and hike the dune trails, rent kayaks, or grab food from the concession area. There were also food trucks there when we visited.

Overall, a great choice for summer fun with the kids and I would think pretty gorgeous come fall too.

    Oak Grove Resort & Campground

Great RV Resort close to Lake Michigan

Clean family friendly RV Resort. Pool, hot tub, modern restrooms and showers, playground, laundry and bike rentals. I believe all the sites are full hookup, cable t.v. and wi/fi. Less than a mile to Lake Michigan and close to boat launch and Lake Macatawa.

    KOA Campground Middlebury

    Decent for a quick stop

Got us in last minute when our other plans fell through. Site was only $35 for a back in water/electric. Grateful for it but wouldn’t have booked this otherwise. Site was unlevel and ran into a hill on the back end. Not much space on ether side of us. Corner lot and the rec center and basketball court was directly behind. Kids cutting through the campsite all the time.

We called several times before anyone answered and the store was clearly understaffed. Although the staff was kind and doing their best. Picnic table is on its last legs and fire ring looked like it was run over. Overall it was a little shabby but definitely not bad. Good for a place to sleep but I wouldn’t book a week here. Not many restaurant options either and also no signs for this one on the highway.

    Cold Brook County Park

    Nice little county park!

29 campsites pretty close together with old growth trees interspersed around the campground. Fishing pier and boating, playground area, and beach. No longer has primitive camping. Some hiking trails...short. is next to a busy road, so traffic all night. Staff was great! Showers and bathrooms cleaned multiple times a day. Pet friendly. Would stay here again!

Guide to Covert

Cabins near Covert, Michigan range from rustic shelter-only accommodations to full modern cottages with amenities. The area sits along the eastern shore of Lake Michigan with sandy beaches and wooded inland terrain. Most cabin rental properties operate seasonally from April through October, with limited winter availability at select locations.

What to do

Beach access from campgrounds: Covert Park Beach & Campground offers direct Lake Michigan beach access within a 5-minute walk. "The short walk to the beautiful beach makes this campground worth it. Bathrooms and showers were well maintained," notes Daniel S.

Biking the Kal-Haven trail: Kal-Haven Outpost cabins sit right along the trail connecting South Haven and Kalamazoo. "It was so convenient to be able to bike ride, hike, or run on the trail... Check out the blue stairs beach at Lake Michigan (accessible in South Haven), Barden's Market for fresh baked goods and vegetables," shares Cindy B.

Pick your own produce: Covert/South Haven KOA Holiday features on-site blueberry fields open for picking. "This KOA has blueberry fields everywhere on the property. For a period of time in summer and early fall, you can pick your own blueberries in the morning to have in your breakfast pancakes!" explains Cindy B.

Fishing at campground ponds: Several cabin properties offer catch-and-release fishing without leaving the grounds. "On site fishing ponds are catch and release with lots of active fish to enjoy," says Kerry T. about the KOA property.

What campers like

Private, wooded cabin sites: Dune Lake Campground offers cabins with natural surroundings. "Visited twice. Once with kids once without. Medium amount of activities for kids... Mix of secluded and populated sites. Fire wood is super reasonable and is delivered to the site," explains Erick B.

Beach proximity: Staying near Lake Michigan remains a top priority for many. "Lake Michigan is right there! We walked down to sunset and it was a 5 min walk max. I'll stay at any campground to have Lake Michigan in walking distance," says Melissa M. about Covert Park Beach.

Clean facilities: Many cabin rentals feature updated bathroom facilities. "The nicest bathrooms and showers I have ever seen at a campground," says upperhunt8 about Kal-Haven Outpost.

Historical sites: Eden Springs Park Campground cabins sit near restored historic buildings. "There's a lot of interesting history here... What I liked about it was you could walk around the campgrounds and learn about it from the signage," shares Daniel B.

What you should know

Reservation timing: Summer cabin reservations fill quickly, especially weekend dates. "This KOA has always been a reliable camp spot. The South Haven beaches are just a short twenty minute drive away!" notes a visitor.

Packing requirements: Most cabins provide beds but require guests bring linens. "They provide linens and have basic supplies (including firewood that they will deliver to your cabin) right at the general store," shares R.B. about Kal-Haven Outpost's cabins.

Variable bathroom options: Black River Trails Campground and other locations may have limited facilities. "The owners and the grandson who run it were even standing in front of the shower house talking to the other people waiting in line," notes one visitor about busy periods.

Cabins with varying privacy: Site layouts differ significantly between properties. "We had about 3-4 other groups within a 40-50 yard area," notes Bryan S. about tent camping near cabins at Kal-Haven Outpost.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Many cabin rentals include programmed events. "Lots of kids activities, both free and for a small fee, great pool, cafe and store! Lots of sports equipment to loan as well," shares Melissa B. about Covert/South Haven KOA.

Consider weather factors: Cabin camping offers protection from elements but preparation remains important. "There was a forecast of rain, don't mind the tarp," explains Olivia S. about planning for wet conditions at Jellystone Park cabins.

Playground accessibility: Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp Resort offers child-oriented cabin options. "It was small enough for our kids to ride bikes around alone and they frequented the park, which we could see from our site," explains Cassie B.

Swimming options: Some properties feature pools while others have lake access. "Nice swimming lake with a shallow area that's great for kids. Quiet, family oriented and well maintained," notes Dan W. about Dune Lake Campground.

Tips from RVers

Site spacing considerations: Cabin sections often have different layouts than RV areas. "The actual spots aren't huge, but since the campground is smaller that wasn't a shock," notes Cassie B.

Water/electric access: At primitive cabins, utility access may be limited. "The cabin was so cute and well kept. It came with a fridge, stove, and bathroom. We had 6 people in it and we fit comfortably," shares Sarah P. about a deluxe cabin option.

Delivery services: Some properties offer added conveniences. "We ordered food from the store and they brought it right to our site," reports Rodney D. about Covert/South Haven KOA.

Site leveling: For pop-up or hybrid cabin campers, knowing terrain helps. "Most sites were at least partially shaded. The small loop (sites 1-19) are flat and great for larger parties, the bigger loop (30-64) have some crazy un-level sites mixed in," advises Chris M.
