Bonnie Brae Cabins and Campsites accommodates pets at all campsite types including tent areas, RV hookups, and rental cabins. Campers appreciate the well-maintained grounds where dogs can be walked along the perimeter paths. Pittsfield State Forest Campground and Cherry Plain State Park both maintain pet-friendly policies across their camping areas, with Cherry Plain offering waterfront sites where dogs can enjoy access to the shore. Most campgrounds in the Hancock area require pets to be leashed at all times, typically limited to a 6-foot standard leash when outside vehicles or tents. The bathrooms at campgrounds are spotless and cleaned several times daily, making it easier for pet owners to maintain their own cleanliness after handling animals. Mount Greylock State Reservation's Sperry Road Campground features secluded walk-in sites with bear boxes positioned away from the main camping areas – important for properly storing pet food away from wildlife.

Hiking trails accessible directly from Cherry Plain State Park Campground provide excellent pet exercise opportunities without needing to drive elsewhere. Many campground reviews note the proximity of water features like Berry Pond and Pontoosuc Lake where dogs can cool off during summer months. The group site areas at Pittsfield State Forest include larger common spaces surrounded by private tent pockets, ideal for families camping with multiple dogs. Campers should note that during peak summer months, some state parks operate at reduced capacity, allowing for greater site spacing and privacy when traveling with pets. Wildlife considerations are important, as Mount Greylock State Reservation is home to black bears, requiring proper food storage for both human and pet supplies. Veterinary services can be found in nearby Pittsfield, approximately 15 minutes from most Hancock area campgrounds.

      Kampfires

      Delightful

This place is pretty awesome. They have an ice cream shop attached to their office/store, mini golf just outside of it too. There is an amphitheater for concerts and shows throughout the summer. RV Spots, tent camping spots, a dog park, badminton, basketball, horseshoe, shuffleboard, the works. The bathrooms are beautifully redone and clean. The laundry room is pretty good too. Its close to Brattleboro and Putney and just across the border to New Hampshire. I'd most definitely stay again when I'm in the area. The other guest were very nice and we could also have packages delivered.

      Spacious Skies Woodland Hills

      A peaceful place with character.

My first visit to New York state was amazing, largely in part due to my campsite at the Woodland Hills campground. I had a back in site and was having problems with my camper, and they were able to change to a pull through at time of check in. However, it was in early May and before the summer crowds. The pond has a fountain which sounds like a small waterfall at night, and wildflowers were in bloom. Very nice bathrooms and showers, and my dog loved the dog park.

Adventure Bound Camping Resort at Deer Run

Easy and well taken care of

This was my very first trip in an rv so I was a little nervous but overall everything went very smoothly. All of the sites are pull through so no worries about backing in. They are pretty close together but we went so early in the season we didn’t have anyone on either side of us - in fact I think we were the only people there that weren’t seasonal. We didn’t have a ton of interactions with the other campers beyond a smile and nod but no one was outright unfriendly. At the office/store the employees were very nice and helpful. The public bathrooms were very clean but the toilets didn’t flush very well in the 2 different bathrooms we went to. The pools looked nice but they weren’t open yet because it was still cold. There was a nice little dog park fenced in area for my dog to run around in. The kids/teens were typical kids/teens and did get a little rowdy/noisy but it wasn’t anything excessive and quiet hours seemed to be well respected. Overall I’d stay again.

      Dorset RV Park

      It was ok

We travelled as a group with family (4 sites). When we booked all our sites were right next to each other. When we arrived not a single one of us were even on the same road. The biggest issue with this, is that there were plenty of sites available next to each other. My parents paid for 50 amp electric and the site next to them was using it instead of the 30amp they were meant to have. Also, while the campground is pet friendly, a warning about free roaming chickens would have been nice. I would not have brought my (prey driven) dogs if I had known there were free roaming chickens.

      Schodack Island State Park Campground

      A pleasant place to camp!

What a fun place to stay! The sites are spaced apart nicely and well maintained. There is electric at most sites with water near the ends and there is a tent area with nothing. Also each site had large fire pits and picnic tables!! Large well maintained bathrooms are provided in the middle of each campground circle. They have recycling there and a large selection of books for you to use also! I told you this is a fun place. All the staff was very helpful, and courteous! Nicole at the front gate was very professional as were the others we encountered throughout our stay! The trails were fun to mountain bike ride on and hike! Just watch out on the weekends as there may be horses on the trail and leave their droppings behind "on" the trail.(Why do the owners not clean up after them, dog owners manage their pets!) We kayaked up and down the Schodack Creek, just watch out for the tide changes. It moves about 5' difference most days. It was fun. Lots of birds, turtles and some fish jumping! We watched the boats, some barges, go up and down the Hudson River as well as people fishing along the banks. Grocery store(Hannaford's) is just SE of there about 8 miles or you can go to Albany(17 miles). Laundry(Nine Juliet Laundromat) is in Castleton just N of there.. 3 miles.. very nice, clean and friendly owner! Go have fun and enjoy yourself!.(Oh, we were out-of-staters so we paid an extra fee but it was well worth it!)

      October Mountain State Forest Campground

      Peaceful and clean campground

I tent camped here in night while exploring the fishing in Western Massachusetts.

The campsite was peaceful and quiet and mostly tucked into the hillside.

I did see the electrical station at the entrance but the sound didn’t reach where I was staying at site 33. To avoid that sound, I would suggest sites further up the road.

The sites offered medium privacy. Site 33 was built into a slope in the hill, so it required walking up a short set of stairs, but the tent site was level.

I didn’t explore the hiking trails but it seems very convenient that you could leave into the trails right from the campground.

For any fly fishing folks, this campground is very close to the Housatonic (catch and release only!)

      October Mountain State Forest Campground

State Forest camping near Monument Mountain

The campground has 3 sections, located on different tiers of a hill. The lower level has RV sites, middle has tent sites, and upper has a few yurts. Each level has a bath house (3 toilet stalls and 1 shower in the lower level; it was run-down but clean enough). Outside the entrance station (near the RV sites) is a HUGE power station that emits a hum constantly. Super annoying and an eyesore. You’ll see many vehicles drive-by with boats or ATVs in tow as the state forest also has areas suitable for their use. Accessible from the campground are a few hiking trails. Monument Mountain is a popular hiking spot about 20 minutes away and Bash Bish Falls State Park is about 45 minutes away. Note: Massachusetts does not allow alcohol in their parks.

    Guide to Hancock

The Berkshire Mountains around Hancock, Massachusetts sit at elevations between 1,200-3,500 feet, creating distinct seasons with cold, snowy winters and mild summers. Camping near Hancock offers access to numerous hiking trails that connect to the Appalachian Trail and Mohawk Trail systems. The region's tree canopy provides natural shade at most campsites during summer months when daytime temperatures typically range from 70-85°F.

    What to do

Hiking to waterfalls: Multiple campsites provide access to local waterfalls including Tannery Falls, a 20-minute drive from Savoy Mountain State Forest Campground. "Went to Tannery Falls, beautiful waterfall. About a 20 minute drive away, worth a visit," notes Lauren from Savoy Mountain State Forest Campground.

Bird watching opportunities: Schodack Island State Park provides excellent bird observation platforms with blinds. "Best part was hiking out to a couple of different blinds to look for birds. Did see a juv eagle," writes Patsy E., who visited Schodack Island State Park Campground.

Fishing in local waters: Multiple ponds and lakes offer fishing opportunities within walking distance of campsites. "The pond has a fountain which sounds like a small waterfall at night, and wildflowers were in bloom," mentions Ann B. about Woodland Hills campground, noting the peaceful ambiance for evening fishing.

Explore Mass MOCA: The renowned contemporary art museum is just minutes from Historic Valley Campground. "I've stayed here for Wilco solid sound festival since 2013 and for fresh grass 2019. The campground has a cool lake front, and you're about a five minute drive to mass MOCA or a 20-30 minute walk," explains Eric P.

    What campers like

Bear safety systems: Many campgrounds provide secure storage for food and pet supplies. "Sites are large and generally secluded, each offering a bear box set apart from the campsite itself as black bears live in the park," notes Jean C. about Mount Greylock State Reservation.

Secluded tent sites: Campers appreciate the well-designed sites that create privacy. "Sites 1-9 are located near Berry Pond and are serviced by a pit toilet. The rest are about 1.5 miles south on the loop road," describes Lee D. about Pittsfield State Forest Campground, highlighting the spatial distribution that creates privacy.

Natural water features: Lakes and ponds offer additional recreation opportunities. "Nice small campground in North Adams Ma. Very helpful friendly staff. Camping here gives you a small lake and plenty of woodland surrounding you and since of peace," explains Stephen R. about Historic Valley Campground.

Well-maintained shower facilities: Campers frequently mention clean bathrooms as a highlight. "Bath house was great. Four private shower rooms (2 for men, 2 for women). They also had outdoor showers and a dish washing station," shares Lourdes about Pittsfield State Forest Campground.

    What you should know

Cell service limitations: Most campgrounds have minimal connectivity. "Don't expect any cell service or internet, but the site is close enough to town if you need," advises Yoni N. about Cherry Plain State Park Campground.

Rabies documentation requirements: Some campgrounds require official documentation for pets. "Be sure to bring your dogs rabies records!! They don't let you in with just the tag, it has to be the paper records," warns Kara W. about Schodack Island State Park.

Wildlife precautions: Black bears are common in the Hancock area. "Use the bear boxes seriously. There are bears around," emphasizes Christina W., who camps regularly at Mount Greylock State Reservation.

Seasonal road closures: Winter access is limited at many campgrounds. "During the winter you can access it via snowmobile or skis," notes Jean C. about the Sperry Road campground, indicating the road is not maintained for regular vehicles during winter months.

    Tips for camping with families

Campground playgrounds: Some campgrounds have dedicated play areas for children. "Fabulous stay! The site was SO spacious and felt secluded because of all the nature and greenery. Wonderful hikes and beautiful walks. The pavilions were huge!" shares Brittany V. about her stay at Spacious Skies Woodland Hills.

Group camping options: Several campgrounds offer specialized group sites ideal for families traveling together. "We reserved a groupsite down by a stream and pond. It had a large common area surrounded by little pockets which made great tent sites. Beautiful site! Other campsites were far enough away that we felt like we had the place to ourselves," explains Alicia S. about her experience at Pittsfield State Forest.

Beach and swimming areas: Many campgrounds include water features for children. "Clean and very friendly camp spot. The sites were clean and quiet. The beach is clean. My site was amazing," shares Joey M. about Cherry Plain State Park.

Educational wildlife encounters: Children can learn about local ecology. "Many 'exotic' birds (for a Brooklyn boy, anything that is not a pigeon or sparrow is exotic). We had frequent visits from Gray Catbirds, and I saw a glimpse of a Bald Eagle through the treeline," reports Joseph C. from Schodack Island State Park.

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Some campgrounds have uneven terrain requiring preparation. "Second time we stayed there for overnight while traveling. Well kept. Adequate space. Friendly hosts. Terrain is uneven. Hit and miss on how flat or leave sights are," advises Ray P. about Bonnie Brae Cabins and Campsites.

Hookup configurations: Pay attention to the layout of utilities at your site. "We stayed in site #36. It had plenty of room for our 4 person tent, kitchen tent and car. The sites were close to each other but enough vegetation around to have a little privacy," shares Lourdes about Pittsfield State Forest.

Access roads: Some campgrounds have challenging approaches. "I could have used leveling blocks because it was hard to find a great spot that was level side to side. Sites 27 & 29 each seemed a little more level and 29 was larger," suggests Jean C. about Bonnie Brae Campground, providing specific site recommendations for easier setup.
