    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Searsport, Maine and the surrounding coastal region provide a range of camping experiences from oceanfront sites to wooded inland areas. Searsport Shores Ocean Campground stands as one of the area's premier destinations, offering tent sites, RV hookups, cabins, and glamping accommodations with direct ocean access. Camden Hills State Park Campground, located approximately 20 miles southwest, provides a more forested setting with hiking trails and mountain views. The region's campgrounds typically accommodate various camping styles, with many facilities supporting both tent and RV camping while offering cabin rentals for those seeking more comfort.

Seasonal considerations heavily influence camping in the Searsport area, with most campgrounds operating from mid-May through mid-October. Winter conditions make off-season camping impractical at most established sites. Reservations are strongly recommended during summer months, particularly for waterfront sites which fill quickly. Many campgrounds in the region offer full hookups for RVs, though amenities vary significantly between locations. Cell service is generally reliable near established campgrounds but may be spotty in more remote areas. According to one visitor, "The tent sites are completely separate from the RVs and are in the woods, beautifully maintained. Only con is the sites are very close together so privacy is an issue sometimes."

Oceanfront camping represents the signature experience in the Searsport region, with several visitors highlighting water access as a primary attraction. Campers report high satisfaction with sites offering views of Penobscot Bay and direct beach access. The Moorings Oceanfront RV Resort and Searsport Shores Ocean Campground both feature waterfront sites that receive consistently positive reviews. A visitor noted, "The ocean access in this park is great! A short set of stairs takes you down to the water which is great for exploring, launching kayaks, and letting the dog run/swim when the tide is out." Beyond the immediate coastal area, inland campgrounds like Camden Hills State Park offer different experiences with hiking trails and mountain views. Most campgrounds in the region maintain clean facilities with bathrooms and showers, though amenities vary between primitive and more developed camping areas.

      Parks Pond Campground

      Great stay!

Awesome place. Clean bathrooms and super helpful people. It is right beside the road so you do hear traffic fairly often. Other than that would totally recommend :)

      Hadley's Point Campground

      Terrible rules

Kids were in bed in our camper. Wanted to watch a replay of a sporting event on our outside tv and a staff member told us no tvs or music after 10pm. The TV volume was extremely low and was bothering nobody. I could hear multiple crying children in the distance over the low volume of my tv but the staff didn’t knock on their camper doors and tell them no crying after 10pm. Apparently adults can’t be respectful adults and enjoy themselves for an hour when their kids go to bed. Will never come back to this place.

      Bar Harbor Campground

      Awesome stay

This app states that you can’t reserve ahead but you can. We didn’t and were still able to stay ( we just moved to another site mid stay) campgrounds are clean. Staff is very friendly. The wild blueberries on the grounds are delicious and in abundance. Both sites were pull though and easy to get level on. Bar Harbor is about 20 min away. We have our tri-glide with us and it was easy to get around the grounds and state. PSA for travelers the lobster spot across the street is delicious and will serve a hot lobster roll. We learned that the “Maine” way is served cold even if it says hot. lol it’s the butter that warm unless you ask for hot lobster.

      1st Hipcamp experience

Very nice camp spot. Private away from other spaces. Very nice site manager. Must be self contained, no hook up amenities available. Trash dumpster on site.

      Green Valley Campground

      Beautiful lake setting

This is a small campground off the beaten path, on a large lake (known locally as Webber “Pond”) with docks for swimming and boating. Many of the sites are reserved for the entire summer with permanent RVs. There are a cluster of closely spaced central sites that are available for others. The bathrooms were clean and showers warm. Fellow campers and sat were welcoming and friendly.

Blackwoods Campground — Acadia National Park

Nothing special but close to everything that's special

This campground is fine, but there are no showers. The bathrooms are in good shape, and the sites are okay. They're decent size, but you're still not gonna have much privacy from your neighbor.

It's a busy campground. There are over 300 sites, and there are not a lot of services, as far as visitor services or anything like that. The amenities are very limited. You just have water at spigots and bathhouses without showers.

Blackwoods Campground — Acadia National Park

      9 Nights in Acadia!

Took our 20 foot travel trailer to Blackwoods for 9 nights to explore Acadia! The campground is clean and quiet! The spots are close but we had no issues with neighbors or quiet hours. They are a primitive campground, so no hookups. There are bathroom on every loop with toilets and water but if you need a shower there are coin showers just outside the campground. We truly loved our stay!

      Forest Camps

my boys and I love this place. it's very awsome to look at the stars at night and hear the towels, crickets and watching the fire flies.... it's a special place where you lake memories you'll never forget. Like getting woken up by a deer blowing at you....

We can't voice enough, what a great place this is and we will definitely come back

    Guide to Searsport

The Maine coastal region near Searsport offers diverse camping options along the rocky shores of Penobscot Bay. With elevations ranging from sea level to 800 feet at nearby Mount Battie, campers experience the unique microclimate of coastal Maine where summer temperatures typically hover between 65-78°F. Sites throughout the region provide varying degrees of privacy, from densely wooded inland locations to open oceanfront spots where tides fluctuate approximately 10 feet daily.

    What to do

Arts and crafts activities: At Searsport Shores Ocean Campground, campers can participate in various artistic pursuits. "This place is so much more than a beautiful campground nestled among gorgeous old growth trees located right on the shore. It's also a treasure trove of arts of all kinds - fiber arts, metal sculptures, carvings, paintings, and music," notes Kathy L., who enjoyed a "small, intimate festival and workshop of fiddlers, banjos, ukuleles, mandolins, and guitars jamming with old time and blue grass music."

Hiking mountain trails: The area offers substantial elevation gains for hikers seeking views. Camden Hills State Park Campground provides direct access to multiple trails. One camper mentioned, "The top portion of the park, where all the campsites are, has direct access to Mount Megunticook, and Mount Battie, and offers easy to advanced hikes. It's great to be able to do numerous hikes without having to leave the park."

Kayaking in protected waters: The numerous inlets and coves create ideal paddling conditions for various skill levels. "The kayaking from the park is very good, with protected access into Mt. Desert Narrows," reports a visitor at Bar Harbor Oceanside KOA. For additional launching points, a visitor at Meguniticook by the Sea Campground shared that "Rockport harbor is a short bike ride away with a beautiful ocean side road. Ask the harbor master for directions."

    What campers like

Private beach access: Many campers value the ability to walk directly to shore from their sites. "The ocean access in this park is great! A short set of stairs takes you down to the water which is great for exploring, launching kayaks, and letting the dog run/swim when the tide is out," explains a visitor to Moorings Oceanfront RV Resort.

Community gatherings: Social events create memorable experiences at several campgrounds. At Searsport Shores, visitors appreciate the "community firepit" and activities like "lobster bake at the ocean." One camper mentioned, "The park organizes a lot of group activities including pot lucks, lobster shore dinners, BBQ feast, and cold beverages offered during Friday Happy Hours."

Cedar outdoor showers: Unique shower facilities stand out at Meguniticook by the Sea Campground, where a visitor raved, "We love the showers!! Even though we're in a trailer with a bathroom I made use of the cedar showers for a long hot shower- awesome!" Another camper described them as being "of similar construction to a sauna and it feels like a hot shower outdoors."

    What you should know

Site spacing considerations: Privacy varies significantly between campgrounds and specific sites. At Oceanfront Camping @ Reach Knolls, "Sites are mostly private and have space," according to Jillian B. However, some campgrounds have closer quarters, as one visitor to Bar Harbor Oceanside KOA noted: "My challenge with the KOA is the sites were so close together and it was very crowded. Everyone was really packed in, with no buffer between sites."

Reservations essential: Peak season fills quickly, particularly for waterfront sites. One camper advised, "If you want to stay over a weekend or during the summer season as this park really fills up. You can stay up to 14 days which would definitely require a reservation in the summer."

Winter closures: Most campgrounds operate seasonally from mid-May through mid-October. Camden Hills State Park Campground operates "mid may-mid oct[ walk-in only starting early September," while Meguniticook by the Sea Campground has a similar season of "May 15-Oct 15."

    Tips for camping with families

Look for separate tent areas: Some campgrounds segment areas by camping style. "The tent sites are completely separate from the RVs and are in the woods, beautifully maintained," notes April W. about Searsport Shores Ocean Campground, adding that "It makes it great for any age kid, there are always tons of kids around."

Consider organized activities: Maine Wild Blueberry Bliss offers a unique experience where "we swam in the water everyday, and picked/ate the blueberries!" according to Korie M. At other campgrounds, scheduled programs keep children engaged throughout the stay.

Check playground availability: Facilities vary widely between campgrounds. One family noticed that at Camden Hills State Park, the "Playground is a bit of a stretch. Firewood was a bit pricey at $7 a bundle." By comparison, other campgrounds offer more robust options including "a jungle gym, basketball court, volley ball, and a dog run."

    Tips from RVers

Check site dimensions carefully: Some campgrounds have limited large rig capacity. "There are a limited number of sites for those over 35 feet and the gravel roads are easy to navigate in a big rig," notes one RVer about Camden Hills State Park.

Hookup variations: Electrical service differs between campgrounds and specific sites. At Moorings Oceanfront RV Resort, a visitor reported that "All sites have electric (50 or 30 amp), water, cable and wifi. The park recently added sewer to all sites and a dump station is onsite."

Consider site location: Oceanfront sites command premium prices but offer unmatched experiences. As one RVer at Bar Harbor KOA explained, "Our waterfront site 344 was terrific - gorgeous view, and one of the larger waterfront spots. We could launch our kayaks directly from the site."
