Best RV Parks & Resorts near Gilbertsville, KY

Several RV parks surround the Gilbertsville, Kentucky area, offering convenient access to Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake. Cypress Lakes RV Park in Calvert City features 105 sites open year-round with full hookups including 50-amp service and is designed to accommodate big rigs. Birmingham Point Campground, operating from March through November, provides waterfront RV sites with electric, water, and sewer connections. Outback RV Resort in Eddyville offers big-rig friendly sites with concrete pads and full hookups from April to November. Birdsville Riverside RV Park maintains 34 spacious sites with 30/50-amp electrical service and sewer hookups. "The campground sits on three levels overlooking Lake Barkley. There are only 5 pull-thru sites with full hookups on wide open ground, no shade," noted one RVer about Indian Point RV Park.

Most RV parks in the region require reservations, especially during summer months when Kentucky Lake attracts boaters and fishermen. Cell service varies by location, with Birmingham Point visitors reporting three bars on Verizon, while other parks have adequate coverage for both AT&T and Verizon. Dump stations are available at most facilities, though Tanglewood Campground and RV Resort lacks this amenity despite offering full hookup sites. Access roads to campgrounds are generally well-maintained, though some parks feature narrow interior roads that can challenge larger motorhomes. Pet-friendly policies are standard throughout the area, with designated pet areas at several parks. Propane service is available at select locations, and many parks offer on-site stores for basic supplies. Winter camping options are limited, as most facilities close between November and March.

    Riverview Campground

    Beautiful Views

Riverview campground is a clean, quiet, family friendly campground. It overlooks the Ohio River and provides amazing views at sunset. The stargazing is also great. There are 30 amp and 50 amp sites with water, and a dump station is on site. Firewood is also provided. This was the perfect place to spend the weekend!

    Eddy Creek Marina Resort

    A Resort RV park

Eddy creek RV park is very well kept, clean, and somewhat secluded on Lake Barkley. Only open from April through Oct, the RV camp area is behind a code locked gate, which helps to keep the park private. There is a dump station, laundry facility, bath house , propane available and Echo Charlie's restaurant that serves typical American food that includes large servings!  I didn't see any tent sites, only RV sites, most with newer looking decks, level sites, electric and water hookup to each site.  The beach is private, the pool is private, everything is within walking distance, but most people were using golf carts, as it is a good distance from the RV area to the restaurant or the pool.  Bicycling would also be ideal, most areas are paved or at least compacted gravel.

Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park

    Old and small

The sites are very small but spread out. Our 35 ft class a barely fit. They do show length limits for sites and they definitely max limit. There is electric (30 amp) and water at the site but it was 75 ft from my sites. Extensions are needed. The staff is friendly and the roads are paved but there are signs directing where to go. Great bathrooms and plentiful. Also coin operated laundry. Fairly close to the freeway.

    Hillman Ferry Campground

    Clean and Rustic

The best part of this campground is the beautiful rustic old timey feel. There are updated modern bathhouses dispersed throughout. The camp store is well stocked. There is a very nice boat ramp and several boat parking areas. “T” area is our favorite with full hookups and beautiful pine trees. A premier and amazing mountain bike trail system is accessible directly from campground!! The Canal Loop Trail and North South Trails are well known and revered by area mountain bikers and hikers. No WiFi or internet service. Cell signal in prior years have been spotty. Very family friendly and lots of kids riding bikes and playing everywhere!

    Canal Campground- Lake Barkley COE

    And then some.....

Canal Recreation Area is right by Grand Rivers, Ky and Patti's Settlement. That right there is enough said as far as outdoor activities go. Then you have Canal Rec Area that just adds too the vacation.

Book early because the best sites stay full, but really they are all pretty good sites. The different areas cover just about anything you are looking for in a site from big rig pull through sites, tiered tent sites, water and beach access sites and boat ramp sites.

There is a trail within the campground to walk, a day use area, newer showerhouse/laundry facilities and dump stations. The area is large enough to jog, bike and golf cart. If your not interested in the nearby entertainment there is enough to do right on site to keep you occupied for your entire vacation be it a day or a week+

    Indian Point RV Park

    Overnight only

The campground sits on three level overlooking Lake Barkly. There are only 5 pull-thru sites with full hookups on wide open ground, no shade. There are 16 water and electric sites. The 150+ sites are long term rental properties. There is a swimming pool, play ground, boat ramp, and game room. Dump site at entrance. More a retirement community than a RV camp.

    Eagles Nest RV Park

The nicest RV Park in Buchanan, TN

Eagle’s Nest RV Park is a hidden gem right next to Kentucky Lake and Paris Landing. It has all concrete pads with full service utility kiosks. Each campsite has plenty of room and comes with its own patio and cable TV connection. The park has a laundry room and shower / bathroom for park guests. Nearby convenience stores have firewood, propane, and anything you might need. The main attractions nearby are KY Lake, Land Between The Lakes, Paris Landing State Park and the Big Sandy National Wildlife Refuge.

    Redd Hollow

Tent and Small Camper Camping, Basic Sites

Well kept campground offering a more basic camping experience as compared to the larger campgrounds at LBL. Gravel pads with concrete picnic tables and fire rings. Be mindful when picking a site that some of the fire rings are damaged, some are the older short (12" tall tops) style and still others are brand new and have the adjustable cooking grate.

The actual gravel pads that we saw were for the most part in good shape. One or two sites suffered a bit from heavy wash running across them and rutting or washing gravel off the pads.

About half the sites are on the left hand side when you drive in and you can pick from sites tucked back in the woods a bit or sites nearer the water. Farther into the campground the road passes the vault toilet and boat ramp and goes uphill to higher up sites still. Sites in the woods with a longer walk to the lake but potentially better views and breezes.

We found that campers here did not limit themselves to staying on the defined tent pads. They would park on the pads and set up tents around the true camp site. Not a super big deal but it made getting down to the water a little awkward because you had to walk a little too close to someone else's tent for my liking.

The Forest Service could stand to go in and add some of the timber framing or bigger rip-rap bordering around the sites and maybe a splash of the smaller sized gravel to help level out the pads. You do need watch to make sure you get a level site.

If there are say 30 sites here, only about 15 were occupied over Labor Day weekend. Way less than what we expected for a holiday but it was exactly what we were hoping for, avoid the crowds at the larger, more amenity-filled campgrounds.

Last thing regarding the lake. The back end of Redd Hollow is shallow. Nice place to wade for kids. However, when they start pulling the lake down what were water access sites become gravel and mud bar access sites. In the dead middle of the summer the back end of the cove is probably full of water. Early spring and late summer early fall it is not. I suspect you can use the boat ramp year round though.

    Kenlake State Resort Park

    Waterfront

Big RVers probably should stay away when this campground is full. We watched a fifth wheel almost get stuck on their way out. Sites are shallow but wider. Some sides further from the water can house the big rigs but most of these sites are for smaller campers and tents. Contains a shower house, sewer, water, electric, and some great views.

This campground is all about location as it is right along the river and central location for hiking and adventuring. Most certainly will be back as we only stayed one night on our way back home.

Guide to Gilbertsville

The Gilbertsville, Kentucky area offers convenient access to both Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake, part of the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. Campgrounds in this region typically operate from March through November, with limited winter options. Weather conditions include hot, humid summers with temperatures frequently exceeding 90°F and mild winters where overnight freezing is common from December through February.

What to do

Fishing from shore: At Birdsville Riverside RV Park, campers enjoy direct access to the Ohio River. "Right after getting set up, we got to see a big barge go by," notes one visitor who found the waterfront location ideal for fishing and wildlife viewing.

Swimming and water activities: Near Venture River RV Park, families can take advantage of the adjacent water park. "We would stay here again and bring the cousins to play at the water park," writes one camper who appreciated the proximity to water recreation options.

Wildlife watching: Birmingham Point Campground offers excellent opportunities for birdwatching and wildlife observation. "We enjoyed the lake view from our site plus we saw deer and eagles in the CG during our overnight stay," reports a visitor who appreciated the natural setting.

What campers like

Spacious waterfront sites: At Birdsville Resort and Campground, campers value the generous spacing between sites. "All open sites waterfront, 30 or 50 amp, sewer and water hookups. Right on the Ohio river! The spaces are big enough for anything you can drive," notes an enthusiastic reviewer.

Clean facilities: Campers consistently mention well-maintained bathhouses at Cypress Lakes RV Park. "Very clean facilities and lovely people! Showers and bathrooms immaculate," reports one visitor who appreciated the attention to cleanliness.

Community activities: Many campgrounds in the area organize seasonal events. "Love this campground, very friendly and accommodating. Lots of fun activities on Holiday weekends throughout the summer season," writes a camper about the social atmosphere at Cypress Lakes RV Park.

What you should know

Seasonal closures: Most rv sites near Gilbertsville, Kentucky operate on limited schedules. "This campground closes for a few months in Fall," notes a camper about Outback RV Resort, which like many in the area operates from April to November.

Reservation requirements: Popular Outback RV Resort fills quickly during peak season. "The empty sites in the CG filled with overnighters during our Monday-Tuesday stay," reports one visitor, suggesting that even weekday availability can be limited.

Site configurations: Birmingham Point Campground has specific limitations for larger vehicles. "We would not recommended trying to anything longer than a 38' rig into the site due to the turn to get out," cautions a camper about the pull-through site arrangements.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Paducah RV Park & Campground offers outdoor common areas. "Like the lake and outdoor commons area," writes one visitor who found the setup conducive to family activities.

Swimming options: Several campgrounds offer swimming facilities during summer months. "Kids enjoyed the playground and the reservoir is really beautiful. We wish the pool had been open...it's still in the process of a renovation. Shaved ice was a nice consolation prize for the kids," notes a family staying at Cypress Lakes RV Park.

Recreational variety: Birdsville Resort provides multiple activity options. "This isn't a huge place with coordinated activities, but they did have horseshoes, basketball, and a hammock area along with a small playground," explains a camper who found enough to keep children entertained.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: For Indian Point RV Park, understanding the layout is crucial. "The campground sits on three levels overlooking Lake Barkley. There are only 5 pull-thru sites with full hookups on wide open ground, no shade," advises an RVer who stayed at the campground.

Level site availability: Many campgrounds offer level spots but require some equipment. "We needed levelers on the door side," notes an RVer at Birmingham Point Campground, suggesting bringing leveling blocks even for sites advertised as level.

Utility placement: At Birdsville Resort, hookup locations require planning. "Make note that the electric poles and water are shared between each site which means the odd number sites are back in, even numbers are pull in," explains a camper who noticed this unique arrangement.
