    High Plains Camping

    Easy access, kind, and clean.

I stopped for just one night on my way to Colorado in a baby 13 foot travel trailer and they were kind enough to put me back in the corner so I could watch the beautiful Kansas Sunset, and away from the big rigs. Big clean, hot and free showers with good water pressure.

    Goodland KOA

Comfortable safe stay near Interstate 70

Context:  I would not rate this campground 4 stars for destination camping, but I would like folks to know it is a great stop-over.  Typical trusted KOA cleanliness and quality.  Full hookups, some shade and nice grounds for kids and pets.  Friendly staff, wifi was good enough for online school; 4g cell coverage, cable too if you are set up in your rig.  Good health protocols during CV19.  Clean bathrooms and sites.  Camp grills, but no fire pits (it can be windy, but this campground's layout offers some blocking particularly to the south end).  After crossing Kansas from east to west, this is a great stop-over.  Also, if leaving Colorado late traveling west to east, same benefit.

    Goodland KOA

    Older KOA-Big Rig Spots

This is an old KOA with new concrete patios. You have to swing wide to pull in and there is a tight straight spot where you stop to register but doable for my Motorhome. Basic RV park with full hookups with level gravel lots. Pull through spot # 61 accommodated my motorhome and tow, which is 67 feet long. Checking was quick and the attendant was very nice.

    Oberlin Inn & RV Park

    Small but functional

Nice little spot in beautiful NW Kansas. Conveniently located on the intersection of Hwy 83 and Hwy 36. Like everyone in this town, the owners are helpful and friendly. Full hookups available in all (6 or 7 total) RV spots. Back in only in all but end spot, with relatively level gravel pads. There is a gazebo on site with seating, and a fire pit and barbecue. It's open for all guests, including motel guests. I give 4 stars because of 2 drawbacks. Hotel WiFi is hit and miss, and the RV spots are small. We couldn't put out our awning without invading the neighbors. But good value for the money ($30/night). I recommend. Oh and do yourself a favor, go downtown and get the best pizza ever at the ReLoad Bar and Grill.

    Goodland KOA

    Cute, clean, friendly, and easy!

Super easy off I70 with little to no road noise. Friendly staff, we were escorted to our spot. Concrete patio and gravel pads that were mostly level. Very clean and quiet, shower house was exceptionally clean. Great camp store. Just overall very pleasant over nighter. Would definitely stay again!

    Goodland KOA

    On the road again...

This KOA has full hookups and nice level sites. The park is also super conveniently located to the interstate, so it’s the perfect place to pull off for the night.

The park does have a cute playground complete with old farm equipment and a small pool. The grass is all well kept and the bathrooms were very clean.

The town of Goodland is not known as a tourist attraction by any means but they are hiding a secret there, and it resides within walking distance of the KOA. Take your camera and venture around the block from the campground to a quaint park with giant ( over 20 foot tall) easel. Atop that easel sits an equally oversized rendition of the Vangogh sunflower painting- fitting for Kansas.

So, if you missed the giant ball of twine further up the highway- be sure you check out what has to be the largest art piece in the lower 48!

    Overnight ... look no more!

Very nice set up! Sites are full hookup with cable... cell signal good(AT&T)... level gravel sites...beautiful prairie views. There is a restaurant on site. Very nice host! We left with fresh eggs collected this morning! WOW!!!! Nice laundry room...bathroom was closed due to COVID. You can hear i80 but it was really not an issue with earplugs.

    Enders Reservoir State Recreation Area

Golf and Boating. Who would have think it!

This evening, my husband and I are camped out on the beach at Champion Lake in Enders State Recreation Area, Nebraska.

We chose the campground at the left of the major Reservoir campground, which is the Dam Campground. It has 2 sections to it. You can actually camp on the beach at this one, but it is primitive camping. $10 a night. There is a dump station, and a potable water pump.

Permits are required, but your money envelope (deposit receipt) is your permit, if you are not local. We are staying 2 nights.

Oh yes . The golfing. Well, there is a golf course across the road from the campground. I didn't get to check it out, but you can, if you are interested. I'll update if I can. Internet isn't that great on Verizon here.

Guide to Atwood

Northwestern Kansas offers several RV parks near Atwood at an elevation of around 2,850 feet, where the flat plains terrain allows for expansive prairie views. Overnight accommodations for motorhomes and travel trailers range from basic city parks to full-service commercial campgrounds, with most RV parks remaining open year-round despite the region's hot summers and cold winters.

What to do

Local attractions in Goodland: Visit the giant Van Gogh painting easel, which several travelers mention is worth seeing while staying at Goodland KOA. "Go see large Van Gough easel nearby," recommends Joseph S., who found this campground to be a convenient stop along I-70.

Pizza dining: Multiple campers recommend trying local restaurants when staying at RV parks in the region. One camper at Oberlin Inn & RV Park suggests, "do yourself a favor, go downtown and get the best pizza ever at the ReLoad Bar and Grill," while another visitor to High Plains Camping praised their on-site food options.

Walking paths: Karrer Park in McCook offers natural spaces for stretching your legs after long drives. "There are trees surround the park and a little river running beside the park. They even had LIGHTENING BUGS!!" notes John H., highlighting the park's natural setting that provides a pleasant contrast to highway travel.

What campers like

Free overnight options: Budget-conscious RVers appreciate no-cost camping opportunities in the region. "Free city park stays for a few days. Water and electric. Dump in site," explains Ryan M. about Karrer Park, where travelers can enjoy basic amenities without spending money while passing through.

On-site dining: After a long day of driving, the convenience of having food options at your campground is highly valued. A camper at High Plains Camping shares, "Best was Captain Jacks restaurant! Should be on Triple D on Food Network!" demonstrating the unexpected quality of food available at certain RV parks.

Clean facilities: Many reviewers specifically mention appreciating well-maintained bathrooms and showers at campgrounds near Atwood. "Bathrooms were very clean, and the laundry was clean," notes Olivia P. about Goodland KOA, while another reviewer at Whistle Stop RV praised their "very clean restrooms and showers."

What you should know

Seasonal conditions: The region experiences significant temperature variations. Winter travelers should note that Kansas Country Inn & RV Park remains open year-round, though one camper reported, "it was too cold for us to hookup to water" during a winter stop.

Stickers and burrs: Several campgrounds have issues with goathead burrs that can cause problems. At Kansas Country Inn & RV Park, one camper warns about "thorny burrs that get all over shoes especially if you have a dog…. Would be very painful for them," while another noted "Lots of stickers on my dogs paw."

Highway noise: Many RV parks in the area sit close to major highways. "You can hear i80 but it was really not an issue with earplugs," mentions Juan G. about High Plains Camping, indicating that while traffic noise exists, most travelers find it manageable for overnight stays.

Tips for camping with families

Pool availability: Some RV parks offer swimming opportunities during summer months. "Comfortable pool, it's super breezy here in the high plains and they've got some trees to help cut it down," notes Jennifer H. about their stay at High Plains Camping, providing a welcome activity for children after travel days.

Entertainment options: Look for campgrounds with additional amenities for kids. "There is a swimming pool(which was closed), a basketball goal, and a playground," explains Myron C. about Whistle Stop RV and Antiques, highlighting recreational facilities that can keep children occupied.

Educational opportunities: Incorporate local attractions into your stay. "You can walk to a Dollar General to pick up a few things," notes Olivia P. about Goodland KOA, which also provides access to the town's famous Van Gogh painting for a quick educational side trip.

Tips from RVers

Big rig accommodation: Many campgrounds in the region can handle larger vehicles. "Pull through spot #61 accommodated my motorhome and tow, which is 67 feet long," shares James R. about Goodland KOA, though he cautions that "roads in campground can be tight for large rigs."

Grocery access: Plan for supplies by noting nearby stores. "Walmart is directly across the street within walking distance," mentions Brittany V. about Whistle Stop RV in Colby, making it convenient for restocking essentials.

Cell connectivity: Service varies throughout the area. Some campers report good connectivity at High Plains Camping with "cell signal good(AT&T)," while others mention spotty coverage, such as at Kansas Country Inn where a visitor noted, "I had a hard time using T-Mobile because I seem to be in a dead spot, but I was able to use their Wi-Fi."
