Several developed campgrounds dot the area, including Rodgers County Park located directly in Vinton and Wildcat Bluff County Park just west of town. Pleasant Creek State Recreation Area Campground and Hickory Hills Park provide the most extensive amenities, with the latter offering cabin accommodation alongside traditional camping sites.

Most campgrounds near Vinton remain open year-round, though services may be limited during winter months. The peak camping season generally runs from April through October, with Lime Creek Park specifically operating from April 15 to October 1. Electric hookups are available at all major campgrounds in the area, though water hookups and shower facilities vary by location. Primitive tent sites typically cost $10-11 per night, while electric sites range from $16-20. The terrain throughout the region is generally flat with some wooded areas, making most sites accessible without specialized vehicles. "We spent a weekend here enjoying the lovely quiet secluded setting. This is one of around 4 campgrounds near/around Lake Coralville. It's the smallest one and not right on the water, but also away from the busyness of the other ones which have the boat ramps and fishing activity."

Several campgrounds in the area feature water access, with fishing opportunities at Wildcat Bluff County Park along the Cedar River and at Pleasant Creek State Recreation Area. Hickory Hills Park receives consistently high ratings (4.7/5) and offers the most comprehensive amenities, including cabin options, fifty-amp hookups, showers, and sewer connections. Benton City in Vinton provides a more basic camping experience with electric hookups and toilet facilities. A camper noted about a nearby facility: "The campground is spread out along pines, forest, and open areas including shoreline. Sites include electric or primitive. Multiple shower/restrooms, firewood available, recycling, beach and boat ramp... Good fishing in reservoir and river." Families seeking recreational amenities might prefer Pleasant Creek or Hickory Hills, while those seeking a quieter, more rustic experience may find Rodgers County Park or Lime Creek Park more suitable.

      Big Woods Lake

      Great place

This campground appears to be new or newly re done, great showers and bathrooms, right on a bike trail seems to connect to everything. Quiet large sites with full hook ups, more sites being developed

      Firefly Campground at Pinicon Ridge

      Great camping

Just an overnight stay but I want to return to Firefly. There are lots of fireflies at night so easy to see why it got the name. All the pads are concrete in this new park. Full hookups that are easy to use. Great playground for the kids.

      Wapsipinicon State Park Campground

      Outdated park for camping

Inexpensive but poorly maintained. Parking is unlevel and no dump station. Sites were slightly bigger than needed and rock driveway barely had rock. Clean and well mowed. Caves were small and visited in about 30 minutes.

      F. W. Kent Park

      Nice spot

All sites are First come first serve. I found a nice site on Thursday of a holiday weekend. All sites have electric, but you need to fill your water at one of the designated water fill spots. Some sites are more level than others. Cute pond with fishing and swimming. I rode my bike around.

      Linder Point Campground

      Lovely Smal RV Park

Great over night on a car camping road trip from Colorado to western NY. It’s definitely an RV park. We pitched our tent on the concrete pad. Glad weather was in our favor. It would have been a challenge to figure out how to stack out the tent. Very clean. Bathrooms were especially clean. Would stay again,

      Diamond Lake County Park

      Choose Your Site Wisely

Pulled in from the main entrance on Stage Coach road - saw signs for tent sites to the right, so continued straight to RV sites. Found the little site with about 10 sites and only 2 other campers there. Found a nice place by the water and parked, hooked into electric.

Later took my bike for a ride and realized how many other sites there are around this lake. So many of them right on the water. A beautiful little spot. I was thinking of staying two nights, but discovered 2 ticks on my cat and decided to pull out.

Over night big rain came in and my power pedestal and fire pit were submerged in water! Choose your site wisely if there's a storm coming!

    What to do

Hiking and biking trails: Pleasant Creek State Recreation Area Campground features an 8-mile hiking trail around the lake with some elevation changes.
