Best RV Parks & Resorts near Klemme, IA

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Several RV campgrounds operate near Klemme, Iowa, offering full-service sites with varying hookup configurations. Oakwood RV Park, located in Clear Lake, provides water, sewer, and 50-amp electrical connections on sites open from April 15 to October 15. Three Fingers Campground in Forest City features pull-through RV pads with both 30-amp and 50-amp service options. Clear Lake State Park Campground accommodates large motorhomes with electric hookups, though the gravel pads are reported to be narrow and not consistently level. Sites at Eldred Sherwood Park offer 30-amp electric service and water hookups. "The camper pads were a mix of dirt and gravel and mostly level. We were lucky to snag Site 34 – it was on the end, making it a much larger site than the interior sites."

Reservations are recommended during summer months when Clear Lake State Park frequently reaches capacity. Most campgrounds in the region provide sanitary dump stations, with full-hookup sites limited at state parks. Inglebretson Park County offers budget-friendly overnight options at $15 per night during summer (dropping to $10 in October), including electric service and clean shower facilities. Pilot Knob State Park remains open year-round, while most private RV parks in the area close between October and April. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, navigation can be challenging within some parks as Clear Lake's campground roads are described as "very narrow and would appear to be one-way but are not designated as such, resulting in some confusion." Many parks report clean restroom facilities with hot showers, though site spacing varies considerably between locations.

White Fox — Myre-Big Island State Park

    Nice state park

This is a rustic state park with limited amenities. There are no water or electric hook ups. However clean water is available in the park. The park does have flush toilets and showers. We found these to be in good condition and clean. The showers had warm water. The water stream is on a timer and so are the lights. The shower stalls are Individual stalls. The interior roads are dirt roads with a few potholes they are very narrow. The camping sites are nice sized and relatively private. There is a gravel pad on each site and some have a tent pad. Each site had a picnic table and a fire ring. There are plenty of walking and biking trails and there are walk-in tent camp sites. However, you cannot see the lake from the campground and there is no access to the lake from the campground. We were able to drive through the campground with our 40 foot fifth wheel. But just barely, be careful!

The Grotto of the Redemption RV Park

    Very Nice, Excellent Value

The Grotto is interesting and inspiring. Admission is free. Two adjacent camping areas are partially shaded and will accommodate rigs of all sizes. I counted (8) 50 amp and (16) 30 amp sites. Rest rooms, showers, fresh water and a dump station are provided. The cost is $20 per night. Sites are offered on a first come first served basis. Thirty amp sites are on lush grass and include a view of a the grotto, a pond and surrounding residences. The 50 amp area offers more privacy, gravel pull through parking and more convenient shower and rest room access but a lightly used rail line runs by.

    Dolliver Memorial State Park Campground

    Beautiful and tranquil

Dolliver State Park was our maiden voyage in our travel trailer and it was obvious we were pitiful newbies! The park's beauty and tranquility did get disturbed a couple times when our dogs got loose (newbs!). The park staff were friendly and very helpful as were our fellow campers. The sites are mostly level with picnic tables and fire rings. Sites range from shady to sunny and the reservation website depicts the sites with a small photo and details about the amount of slope and shade. Cell service was good but no WiFi without a hotspot for us. We had fun, learned a lot and plan to camp here again!

The Grotto of the Redemption RV Park

Nice place to stop while visiting the Grotto

We stayed at the Grotto of the Redemption RV park for two nights. We were in our class C while slowly making our way across the country. We had no problems getting a spot here. There are two areas. One is very close to a train line, which runs infrequently. Sites are grass, level, and reasonably well maintained. All sites are pull through. Only electrical hookups are available at the sites. This is in good condition. There is fresh water and a dump station available. Each site has a nice grassy area and there are plenty of large trees. Staff was very friendly and helpful. There was a park nearby with a playground.

The RV park is near the Grotto. The Grotto is a fascinating achievement worth a look if you are in the area.

We had 2 bar LTE with Verizon. Our hotspot was usable and performed very well. Campground wifi was not available.

We enjoyed our brief stay at this campground. We will stay again when traveling this way.

    Camp At The Woods

Nice people and ray is working hard to update!

Ray is a great guy ! He let us come in for a weekend , and let us pick our site on arrival. We had full hook up, but the sewer connection was at the front of the site and was up hill kind of . Nice concrete Pads at the site with fire rings. Mostly seasonal sites and month to month workers in here but would definitely come back if there was an open site

    Joe Sheldon County Park

    Beautiful hiking!

This is a lovely and expanding park. Spacious, level pull through sites with full hookups. Decent Verizon coverage. Shower houses could use updates.

Camping in the woods near town

Located by New Ulm, MN this campground has plenty of activities in the park or very near the park. Plenty of hiking trails, playground for the kids, and an amazing sand bottom swimming pond surrounded by sand beach. Golf is also nearby at The New Ulm Country Club which is open to the public. White Fox — Myre-Big Island State Park

    Nice Park

Stayed here one night, halloween, last night open for the season. Only trailer in the whole park. Site required a little bit of leveling but a little muddy. Part of pad was gravel and part of pad was mud. Electric site only, no water or sewer. Water spigots and dump were fairly conveniently located with good trailer pull through but it was shut down for the season.

Guide to Klemme

Camping options near Klemme, Iowa include several state parks and county-operated facilities within a 30-mile radius. This north-central Iowa region experiences four distinct seasons, with summer high temperatures averaging in the 80s and winters often dropping below freezing. Most campgrounds in the area are situated around small lakes or waterways, offering fishing and water recreation opportunities during the warm months.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Beed's Lake State Park Campground features a picturesque lake with a sandbar suitable for fishing. "We stayed at #142 and it was the perfect tent location. Right on the water, distanced from our site neighbors, and a sandbar nearby for some fishing," notes Katie J.

Hiking trails: Wooded paths at Pilot Knob State Park Campground offer year-round access. "Nice place to spend the weekend or a week! Came in late and a resident helped me find a great spot. When driving to my site two fawns were laying near the playground," explains Roger.

Star gazing: The open prairies at Brushy Creek State Recreation Area provide exceptional night sky viewing with minimal light pollution. "The Stars Were So Bright! This little nugget is laid out on a vast prairie. Most sites have younger trees that provide some shade. Very little light pollution," reports Staci I.

Local attractions: The Grotto of the Redemption RV Park places campers near a unique religious landmark. "The Grotto is interesting and inspiring. Admission is free. Two adjacent camping areas are partially shaded and will accommodate rigs of all sizes," states Gary H.

What campers like

Affordable camping: Inglebretson Park County offers budget-friendly overnight stays. "Very inexpensive, convenient, nice place to stay for a layover. Believe the cost was only $15 on our summer early September rate and drops to $10 basically in October for a few months, which includes a small fire pit, table, and electric!" notes Michael B.

Wildlife viewing: Outdoor enthusiasts appreciate the deer sightings at Myre-Big Island State Park. "Seeing large groups of deer was a daily/nightly thing! The park has 20+ miles of hiking trails through prairies, woodlands, and along the lake too!" shares Michael C.

Privacy options: Some sites at Three Fingers Campground & RV Park provide more seclusion than others. "This is primarily a long-term RV site with a few transient sites. People are friendly, bathrooms and showers are well-maintained," reports Beverly W.

Clean facilities: Campgrounds in the region maintain their bathroom and shower facilities to high standards. "The bathrooms are updated and nice. When there is heavy rain you will however have your own pond at most sites. I guess you pay for what you get. I love this campground because they are large spots," explains Lisa M.

What you should know

Seasonal closures: Most campgrounds close between October and April, with a few exceptions. Oakwood RV Park operates from "April 15 to October 15," while Pilot Knob remains open year-round.

Site spacing considerations: Campsite proximity varies between parks. "Close sites, little shade. Nice owner's, quiet. Have church with non denominational service on sunday, which is nice," notes Kelly about Oakwood RV Park.

Campground layouts: Some parks feature non-traditional parking arrangements. "Over half of the campsites are parallel parking. That means if you don't know the person camping across from you, you'll be staring at a stranger just a few feet away during your stay," warns Dave M. about Beed's Lake State Park.

Reservation needs: Popular campgrounds fill quickly during peak season. "Sad that there were so many back up sites over the holiday weekend, would have liked to have been able to camp here. It being full more than a week before the holiday, shows how great it is," comments Jennifer D.

Tips for camping with families

Playgrounds and recreation: Clear Lake State Park Campground offers family-friendly amenities. "The playground was fun for the kids, nice beach access! Paved roads are great for bike riding. Great shaded spots. DNR cruises the park daily which is nice to see," shares Becky M.

Swimming options: Several parks feature swimming areas, though quality varies. "The swimming beach was gross, but the hiking trail was great for an easy walk with kids," notes Katie J. about Beed's Lake.

Multi-generational gathering spots: Some campgrounds are designed for family reunions. "Great campground. Family and friends get together a must here. Close to the beach, town and the lake has great fish. Reserve early!" advises Lisa M.

Shower considerations: Facilities at Clear Lake may present challenges for younger children. "It's hard to control the temperature in the showers, too hot for little kids to stand directly in the water," warns Becky M.

Tips from RVers

Leveling requirements: Prepare for variable site conditions across parks. "Sites not too level, but spacious. Camped in mid April and park was not very busy which was nice. Full hookup sites and W/E only sites. Close to town and lots to do," explains Victoria G.

Road navigation: Interior roads at some campgrounds present challenges. "The interior roads are dirt roads with a few potholes they are very narrow. The camping sites are nice sized and relatively private. There is a gravel pad on each site and some have a tent pad," Cheryl W. observes.
