Tippecanoe River State Park Campground offers pets-allowed camping with several hiking trails accessible directly from tent, RV, cabin, and glamping sites. The campground features clean facilities with full hookups, including electric, water, and sewer connections. Sites include fire pits, picnic tables, and some have views of the surrounding woodlands. The mosquito population can be excessive during summer months, particularly near the river, with numerous reviews warning campers to bring extra bug spray. Park rangers occasionally spray mosquito repellent from trucks to help control the problem.
Broken Arrow and Rising Sun Campground also welcome pets while providing various accommodation options including cabin rentals. Both campgrounds are located near Winamac and feature amenities such as showers, sanitary dump stations, and electric hookups for RVs. Several hiking trails wind through the wooded areas, with the Tippecanoe River offering excellent paddling opportunities for dog owners who enjoy kayaking or canoeing with their pets. The river access points are particularly popular during summer months when the water provides relief from insects. Fall and spring camping seasons reportedly offer the best experience for campers with dogs due to fewer mosquitoes and more comfortable temperatures for pets to enjoy the outdoor activities.
"This campground is a great place for families and pets. We camped in the electric part of the park. During our stay we enjoyed the hiking opportunities for us and our dogs."
"Each site had morning shade only, and the shade from the forest to the east of the sites closed in around 5 p.m. This campsite allows up to 2 tents per site, but it was nice to spread out a bit."

"Our campsite was an odd size and a tight drive to back into (but it was a busy weekend). We were excited for the waterfall but it was closed off."

A relaxing campground for the whole family. Swimming, camp fires, children parks, dog park, small trails, and only 10 minutes from Indiana beach. Love staying here.
Compared to the other popular campground in the state park this is way less crowded. There’s tons of trails to do along the lakeshore and none are really far from one another. I grew up in NWI so I didn’t camp in Indiana often but I did here and loved it! There are a bunch of raccoons that can come steal food so beware of that! Overall nice though!
We stayed in the off season in a site close to the laundry facility and office. Great campground for families. Our site was smaller however, no one was around us so it seemed bigger. They do have nice premium sites in the front. Loved that it is gated and and key card access after hours. Has a dog park and a playground for the kids.
Pros - playground, pool, well kept grounds, helpful staff, gated/swipe card access, ponds, close to area attractions, decent campground WiFi, small fire ring, small dog park
Cons - tight spaces, BYO grill, bad showers, dirty/tight bathroom area
The mens room is just gross. Water in the stalls because showers don’t drain. Water in the shower never gets hot. Missing shower heads with pressure that almost tears your skin. Can barely squeeze into the tiny stall. Toilets are gross.
We used it as an over night stop right off of 94. It was perfect for that. It would also be perfect spot to stay longer if wanted to be in the area. Grounds were nice. Clean bathrooms, laundry, dog friendly, pool, office is friendly and has a store with game room. Nice dog park. We are in a 40ft with tow and did not need to unhook.
This park is under new ownership. They have gotten the pool repaired and open and have cleaned up much of the park with more to come. The creek flowing through makes it so cool and peaceful and the animal life is beautiful. Saw a huge crane in the creek today along with a whole duck family…the folks there are friendly. There’s a dog park, playground, bounce pad, basketball court, pavilion and a great big dam across the street where the fishing is great! Boats are welcome and the staff is great!
Great stop for the night, It's new, gated and has basic amenities like a General store, Dog park and basketball court and tennis ball court for some activities if you have kids. Plenty of space and Convenient. We reserved and checked in online. The only complaint I had is the site we were at showed a ground fault on the 50amp Circuit so I had to use the 30 amp circuit but it's Nov so no need to run dual ACs minor issue but still make sure your using your EPM devices.
I return to Salamonie River State Forest year after year because it truly feels like Northeast Indiana’s best-kept secret. This 21‑site primitive campground offers peaceful seclusion, 4 pit toilets, and two water sources—including a spring‑fed spigot with crisp, cold, delicious drinking water. I’ve stayed at several sites, with Site 18 and Site 20 as favorites. Tent‑friendly, small camper-friendly, pet‑friendly, and just $15/night, it sits beside horse trails, hiking routes, and great fishing. A small campground with big shine—highly recommended.
it’s so nice to have a great beachfront in the Midwest. There is so much to do her, wineries and breweries nearby. The beaches are not too crowded. Pet friendly and lots to do for children. This is one of our favorite vacation spots.
Winamac, Indiana sits in a low-lying area along the Tippecanoe River at approximately 700 feet above sea level. The terrain features a mix of woodlands and open fields with the river cutting through sandy soils. Fall camping typically offers temperatures between 45-70°F with significantly reduced mosquito activity compared to summer months when insect populations peak near water sources.
Climb the fire tower: At Tippecanoe River State Park Campground, visitors can experience panoramic views of the surrounding woodlands. "The fire tower climb was beautiful. A nice little place to relax," notes Nicole B. The tower offers a short hike with rewarding views, particularly during fall color seasons.
Mountain biking on beginner trails: Potato Creek State Park Campground features dedicated trails for novice riders about 45 minutes from Winamac. "The Peppermint Hill mountain bike/hiking loop was really fun and not to be missed," recommends Christy Y., making it worth the drive for families seeking varied terrain beyond the Tippecanoe River area.
Explore waterfall hiking: France Park offers unique geological features uncommon in northern Indiana. "Great place to fish. Beautiful waterfalls," writes Wendy Z. The park's limestone formations and small cascades provide excellent photography opportunities, especially after rainfall when water flow increases.
Unplugged atmosphere: Tippecanoe River State Park Campground provides a tech-free environment. "This is the place to go for a quiet simple camping trip. There is no pool or camp store and cell service is limited so it is a great place to get away from it all," explains Dawn K. Many sites lack cell coverage, creating a truly disconnected experience.
Crystal clear quarry swimming: France Park features an unusual swimming area in a former limestone quarry. "I took a 5 mile hike and she spent the day on the beach and swimming in the crystal clear lake," reports Big Tank F. The quarry offers deeper, cooler swimming than typical Indiana lakes.
River access for kayaking: The Tippecanoe River provides excellent paddling opportunities directly accessible from Rising Sun Campground. "Located right on the beautiful Tippecanoe River with float, canoe, and kayak rentals," mentions Matthew S. Rentals range from $25-45 for half-day excursions on this class I waterway.
Seasonal mosquito conditions: Summer brings significant insect activity throughout the region. "Worst place for mosquitoes," warns Rob H. about Tippecanoe River State Park. Spring and fall camping provides more comfortable conditions with significantly reduced insect pressure.
Limited connectivity: Cell service varies drastically between campgrounds. "I have AT&T service and could not use my phone at all, my husband has Verizon and had no problems with cell service," reports Monica C. from Tippecanoe River State Park. Verizon typically offers the strongest coverage throughout the Winamac area.
Campground personalities vary: Each dog friendly campground near Winamac has distinct rules and atmospheres. "Tippecanoe River Run is very peaceful friendly campground!" states Margie, while others note strict enforcement at some parks versus more relaxed environments at others.
Playground access: At Tippecanoe River State Park, specific sites offer direct playground views. "For the playground, sites 2,3,4,6,&7 have direct access to a playground & you can watch your children from your site," advises Cynthia K. These sites book quickly during summer months.
Stargazing opportunities: Rural settings around Winamac provide excellent night sky viewing with minimal light pollution. "We ventured out on one more trail and saw the waterfall but headed to our site to set up camp afterwards. Park was quiet at night for the most part," explains Jennifer K. about her experience at France Park.
Swimming options for kids: Families seeking beach access should consider Bass Lake State Beach as an alternative to river swimming. "Great little campground on beautiful Bass Lake. Restaurants and ice cream shop close by. Highly recommend for a definite fun time!! Kids LOVE this campground," says Debbie S.
Electric hookup locations: At Tippecanoe River State Park, power connections can require planning. "Be ready with back up cords, some sites require 75 ft to hook up," warns Frank M. Sites toward the back (numbers 230-287) typically offer better spacing for larger units.
Water fill stations: Not all pet-friendly RV parks near Winamac offer full hookups. "Get water before setting up at the water station after the small gatehouse. There's 2 sides at the dump station," recommends Cynthia K. about Potato Creek State Park, noting the limited water access points.
Site selection for privacy: RVers seeking quieter settings should target specific areas. "We stayed in site 102, which is right across from bathroom A. All the outer sites are pretty good," suggests Cynthia K. Corner sites and those along campground perimeters typically offer more buffer space for dogs.
