Best RV Parks & Resorts near Spencerville, IN

Several RV parks offer accommodations near Spencerville, Indiana, with varying levels of amenities and hookups. Twin Mills Camping Resort in Howe provides full hookup sites with 50-amp electric service, water, and sewer connections from April 15 to November 1. The park features both wooded and open sites suitable for larger rigs. "The sites are deep but not very wide," noted one visitor, making setup somewhat challenging when neighboring seasonal campers position their units horizontally. Shipshewana Trading Place RV Park offers gravel sites with electric hookups and remains operational from April through October, while Angola/Hogback Lake KOA Holiday maintains year-round access with 435 sites equipped with 30 and 50-amp hookups.

Advance reservations are essential during peak travel seasons, particularly for premium sites with full hookups. Most parks in the region provide sanitary dump stations, though availability of on-site propane filling services is limited to select locations like Indian Springs Campground. Cell service quality varies significantly throughout the area, with one KOA visitor reporting excellent Verizon and AT&T coverage due to a cell tower less than two miles from the campground. Interstate noise can impact sleep quality at some locations, particularly at Indian Springs where highway traffic remains audible even with air conditioning running. Pet policies are generally accommodating throughout the area, with designated walking areas available at most RV parks.

    Blue Water Campground

    Our stay at bluewater

The staff is extremely friendly, and try to accomadate with anything you could need. The campesites are fairly large with gravel pads. They offer water and electric hook-up for 30&50 amps. There is not a sewer hook up but they do offer a weekly pump out for a small fee and a dump station on the way out. The pool, ponds, playground and pavillion are all within walking distance from almost any site.

    Twin Mills Camping Resort

    Beautiful Wooded Campground

Twin Mills is a really beautiful and quiet RV Campground, with tall trees in Northern Indiana. We frequent this location when getting RV Repairs and visiting Elkhart, the birth place of most RVs.

There are cabins and tent sites and a large lake access point with a beach area. The playgrounds seemed to be in good shape and the dumpsters were centrally located.

The park has a gate entrance for security.

There is a large pool area and basketball court.

There are several sections in the park, some more wooded and narrow sites, some are more spread out.

Cellular: T-Mobile had good signal strength and bandwidth, AT&T was not as good but still doable.

Most of the sites are full hook up, some have 30amp and some have 50amp.

Amenities: Pool Clubhouse Basketball Volleyball Picnic tables Fire rings Trash Playground Lake access Beach area Dock Cabins Tent sites

    Happy Acres Campground

Friendly, clean, and easy to get to

This was the first park we went to as new trailer owners. It did not disappoint. Staff are so friendly and helpful. It is right off I69 so easy access but you will have road noise. We did not find it intrusive but understand not everyone may think the same. Sites are gravel and where we were, pretty level. There are other sites you may need leveling pads on but nothing looked crazy. Our site had full hookups. Some had only water and electric. No issues with cell service or Starlink. We had a fire ring and picnic table. Not a lot of trees though. The seasonal parts of the park do. The bathrooms are modern and clean. Our site was a pull through, others are back in. It seemed to me that 3/4 of the sites are occupied by semi permanent seasonal tenants though. Almost looked like a mobile home park in a way with sheds and decks. They have the best sites along the water. The transient sites are separated from them. Because of the permanent residents there is golf cart traffic. It was not noisy or party atmosphere though. Angola is close for dining or shopping. All and all, enjoyed the visit and would not hesitate to stay there again.

    Shipshewana North Park Campground

Nice campground in a convenient location

We were passing through and decided to stop for frozen custard at the stand right next to the campground. The first review for this place did not seem very inviting but a more recent one was a little more positive. After checking it out, I thought it could use a little reinforcement of the positives! I’m not sure if there have been new owners since the first review but I received a very friendly greeting, and the office is open from 9 am– 8 pm and clearly marked as the place to check-in.

There are many options here: back-in or pull-thru tent sites, w/e sites, full hook-up sites, camper cabins, and fully equipped cabins. The campsites range from $32-$46 per night and the cabins range from $69-$144 per night. Sites 47-52 are close to the road so you will hear road noise, but Sites 11-35 are farther from the road and are more shaded. The layout is RV park style but there is reasonable separation between the sites.

The restrooms have a code for entry, and I did not see the inside of these.

    Amenities include:

    - a community fire pit

    -  game room with television

    - guest laundry

    - dump station

    - gift shop

    - pet friendly options

     -WiFi

    - There is, of course, an ice cream/frozen custard stand that I dare you to resist.

While we would not consider it a destination, we would definitely consider camping here en route – the price is reasonable, and the staff is friendly and welcoming.

Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park at Plymouth

    August 2018: Meh

Please know this is mostly a mobile home park and long term rvs. It’s kept up decent but some shoddy add ons and sheds throughout. there are I’ve 900 sites and more than 95% are permanent. It’s between a very busy freeway and very busy railroad track. Cute little lake with lots of activities for kids and themed weekends. I was abke to run 3 miles aroind the park. Full hook ups are only up to 30 amps. Close to Chicago. We will not be returning due to noise but other than that, it’s ‘meh’.

    Pokagon State Park Campground

    One of the Best

    10-2-24 thru 10-7-24 Site 370 C

Cellular, TMOBILE 5G, 3 bars. 21’ Apex Nano w truck. Gravel pad, fire pit and grass is about 12” lower than pad. Keep in mind if expecting rain.

Showers are old, warm with 2 hooks, 2 toilets and 2 urnials.

Fire pit needs to be reset in the ground, it sit too high. Awesome trails to hike. Maintenance was awesome changing out a breaker on the box.

8-27-22, update on site 348 and 350. These are pull through sites on the edge of the road. 350 is longer and had a 5th Wheel on it. We put our 19’ Nano on 348. Full sun during the day, 348 is uneven once you walk off of the pad. This site could use some TLC and more gravel for parking.

10-1-16, nice state park with hiking trails. Lot 322 was partially sun and shade. Restroom and shower(open stall, no privacy) was outdated but functional. 2-5-22 hiked 4 miles on the snow packed trails. Cold and awesome powder conditions.

    Fireside Resort RV Park

Close to highway and event center

This is a decent place. Very close to the event center and auto center where they have alot of big events. Its a gravel lot in the middle of a field but they have all the normal amenities. Even have a pool and propane fills. Alot of the people in here during the winter are people living long-term for seasonal work. Not the best rigs so you wont feel bad if yours isnt new or clean. Strong highway noise but overall a quite place

    Harrison Lake State Park Campground

    Quiet place to get away

We have been here a few times. Really enjoy the secluded sites and the lake. It’s a small campground but it’s clean and quiet. Most sites don’t have water hookups but they do have electric. There isn’t much to do outside of the campground but there is a nice lake with canoe and kayak rentals. Very pet friendly and even has a dog beach.

Guide to Spencerville

Spencerville, Indiana sits at about 850 feet above sea level in the northeastern part of the state where glaciers once carved out numerous small lakes. Camping options near Spencerville include full-service RV parks and state-managed camping areas where temperatures typically range from 20°F in winter to 85°F in summer. Weather patterns can change quickly in this region, particularly during spring and fall transition periods when thunderstorms sometimes develop rapidly.

What to do

Boating and fishing access: Chain O' Lakes State Park Campground offers opportunities to explore nine connecting lakes. "There is a beach on this property," notes one visitor to Angola/Hogback Lake KOA Holiday, adding "I have kayaked extensively in this long chain of lakes that this RV park is located on and you can go on for days."

Amish community visits: RV camping near Spencerville puts you close to authentic Amish experiences. "Definitely loved this campground in the middle of beautiful Amish country. Staff was very friendly and helpful," writes a visitor to Elkhart RV Resort by Rjourney. The campground is "about 10 minutes drive to Shipshewana with very kind Amish community folks."

Recreational trails: The region offers numerous biking trails. "This campground was very convenient to the town of Shipshewanna, Amish Country and the Pumpkinvine Bike Trail," notes a camper at Shipshewana Trading Place RV Park. For hiking, Chain O' Lakes State Park provides multiple trail options through wooded terrain.

What campers like

Family-oriented amenities: Many campgrounds prioritize recreational options for families. At Twin Mills Camping Resort, guests appreciate that "there are cabins and tent sites and a large lake access point with a beach area. The playgrounds seemed to be in good shape and the dumpsters were centrally located."

Quiet camping environments: Some campers seek more peaceful experiences away from busy facilities. A visitor to Shipshewana RV Park noted the campground was a "nice place" that offers "easy access to flea market" while maintaining a calm atmosphere.

Pool and water activities: Summer visitors particularly value water-based recreation options. "They have a new pool and lazy river which is fantastic. There's an inflatable obstacle course on the lake," writes one camper about Angola/Hogback Lake KOA Holiday, which also offers "docks, pontoon rentals and a launch if you wish to bring your own boat."

What you should know

Highway noise considerations: Some campgrounds near major roads experience traffic noise. One visitor to Indian Springs Campground reported: "The highway noise was terrible. We had A/C on and sound machine and still had a rough time sleeping. Not a bad place for a stopover but too noisy for more than a few nights."

Site configurations vary significantly: Many campgrounds feature a mix of seasonal and transient campsites with different layouts. "The sites are deep but not very wide," explains a visitor to Twin Mills Camping Resort, noting sites can be challenging when neighboring units are positioned horizontally.

Seasonal closures affect amenities: Most camping facilities in the area have limited operational schedules. Boat rentals at Chain O' Lakes State Park are "closed after Labor Day" according to one visitor, and many campgrounds only operate from April through October.

Tips for camping with families

Playground options: Multiple campgrounds feature play areas for children. One visitor to Twin Mills Camping Resort mentioned "there is a large pool area and basketball court" and listed additional recreational options including "basketball, volleyball, playground, lake access, beach area, dock."

Swimming opportunities: Water activities are popular with families during warmer months. A camper at Chain O' Lakes State Park noted "kayaking and the beach was a huge hit with the kids," making it a worthwhile destination for family camping trips.

Organized activities: Some campgrounds offer structured events for children and families. "Events every weekend and some fun for everyone," writes a visitor to Angola/Hogback Lake KOA Holiday, though they caution to "DONT rent a 4 person bike unless you're incredibly fit, it is no leisurely stroll."

Tips from RVers

Early check-in policies: Be aware of specific arrival time rules. A camper at Shipshewana Trading Place RV Park noted a "$15 (plus tax) charge for 45 minutes early check-in. Given the park was 2/3 empty that seemed unnecessary."

Site orientation: RV site layouts can impact your camping experience. At Shipshewana RV Park, "the Park offers mainly alternating pull-through sites which means you will be facing your neighbor's door not their street side of the camper. This makes for great buddy sites."

Cellular connectivity: Internet access varies by location. At Elkhart RV Resort by Rjourney, a visitor found "T-Mobile had good signal strength and bandwidth, AT&T was not as good but still doable," information helpful for those needing to stay connected while camping.
