Tippecanoe River State Park Campground allows pets at all campsites with spacious, shaded sites ideal for dogs. Hickory Hills Campground at Bass Lake and Rising Sun Campground also accommodate pets in their tent sites, RV spots, and cabin rentals. Most campgrounds enforce standard leash requirements, typically six feet or shorter, and limit pets to two per site. Bathroom facilities are consistently clean at Tippecanoe River, making camping with dogs more convenient. The park receives high marks for family camping with dogs, with multiple reviewers noting the kid-friendly atmosphere and well-maintained grounds. Large sites with gravel pads prevent muddy paws during rainfall, and most areas feature paved paths throughout the campground for easy dog walking. The Dyrt includes reviews of campgrounds near North Judson, Indiana.

Hiking trails accessible directly from Tippecanoe River State Park campground allow dogs on leash, with Trails 1, 3, 4, and 5 offering various terrain options. Bass Lake State Beach provides water access for dogs, though the lake area can get crowded during summer months. Spring and late fall offer the best camping seasons for pets due to significantly fewer mosquitoes than summer months when biting insects become problematic in this marshy region. Most campgrounds feature drinking water stations throughout the grounds, but visitors should bring portable dog bowls for trails. The Tippecanoe River offers additional recreation with canoe and kayak opportunities where many campers bring their dogs. Campsites generally include picnic tables and fire rings, though several reviews note limited privacy between sites with minimal vegetation separating neighbors.

      Family Fun

A relaxing campground for the whole family. Swimming, camp fires, children parks, dog park, small trails, and only 10 minutes from Indiana beach. Love staying here.

Dunewood Campground — Indiana Dunes National Park

Great spot to stay if you’re visiting

Compared to the other popular campground in the state park this is way less crowded. There’s tons of trails to do along the lakeshore and none are really far from one another. I grew up in NWI so I didn’t camp in Indiana often but I did here and loved it! There are a bunch of raccoons that can come steal food so beware of that! Overall nice though!

      Michigan City Campground

      Great campground

We stayed in the off season in a site close to the laundry facility and office. Great campground for families. Our site was smaller however, no one was around us so it seemed bigger. They do have nice premium sites in the front. Loved that it is gated and and key card access after hours. Has a dog park and a playground for the kids.

      Michigan City Campground

Not my favorite, but not horrible

Pros - playground, pool, well kept grounds, helpful staff, gated/swipe card access, ponds, close to area attractions, decent campground WiFi, small fire ring, small dog park

Cons - tight spaces, BYO grill, bad showers, dirty/tight bathroom area

The mens room is just gross. Water in the stalls because showers don’t drain. Water in the shower never gets hot. Missing shower heads with pressure that almost tears your skin. Can barely squeeze into the tiny stall. Toilets are gross.

      Michigan City Campground

      Great Campground

We used it as an over night stop right off of 94. It was perfect for that. It would also be perfect spot to stay longer if wanted to be in the area. Grounds were nice. Clean bathrooms, laundry, dog friendly, pool, office is friendly and has a store with game room. Nice dog park. We are in a 40ft with tow and did not need to unhook.

      Love's RV Stop-Demotte IN 394

      Clean and convienent

Great stop for the night, It's new, gated and has basic amenities like a General store, Dog park and basketball court and tennis ball court for some activities if you have kids. Plenty of space and Convenient. We reserved and checked in online. The only complaint I had is the site we were at showed a ground fault on the 50amp Circuit so I had to use the 30 amp circuit but it's Nov so no need to run dual ACs minor issue but still make sure your using your EPM devices.

      Norway Campground

      Great seasonal park

This park is under new ownership. They have gotten the pool repaired and open and have cleaned up much of the park with more to come. The creek flowing through makes it so cool and peaceful and the animal life is beautiful. Saw a huge crane in the creek today along with a whole duck family…the folks there are friendly. There’s a dog park, playground, bounce pad, basketball court, pavilion and a great big dam across the street where the fishing is great! Boats are welcome and the staff is great!

Mount Randall Campground — Warren Dunes State Park

Can’t hear nature over 90/94 Traffic

Semi-modern campsite are super close together with very limited privacy. Sites 6-9 have hardly any trees so tents need to be set up strategically for what limited privacy there is. Don’t count on being able to hang a hammock in all sites (site 9 had zero spot to hang one). The interstate is behind the small tree line and the traffic noise is insanely loud. If you are looking to unplug and relax in nature, I would pick another spot to camp. The highway was louder than the sounds of nature. My backyard in the city of Chicago is more serene than our campsite. The campsites are pretty far from the lake where driving is almost necessary. The positives include, decent hiking and pet friendly areas on the beach. I will not be camping here again.

    Guide to North Judson

Camping near North Judson, Indiana features largely flat terrain in the Kankakee River basin, with elevations averaging around 700 feet above sea level. The region sits at the edge of what was once the Grand Kankakee Marsh, historically one of the largest wetland ecosystems in the United States. Seasonal considerations are critical, with spring and fall offering significantly lower humidity and fewer insects than the peak summer months.

    What to do

Fire tower climbing: At Tippecanoe River State Park Campground, the observation tower provides excellent views of the surrounding landscape. "The fire tower climb was beautiful. A nice little place to relax," notes camper Nicole B. The hike to reach the tower is relatively short and accessible for most ability levels.

Fishing opportunities: Bass Lake offers fishing access with mixed results depending on season. While some lakes in the area can get crowded, weekday visits typically provide more solitude. "Fishing was poor according to my husband," reports one Tippecanoe River visitor, suggesting that expectations should be managed or alternative fishing spots considered.

Biking trails: Potato Creek State Park Campground maintains both paved and off-road biking options. "With dog friendly beaches, beginner MTB trails and paved bike paths, this checks all our boxes," writes Frank M. The mountain biking trails are rated as beginner-friendly, making them appropriate for casual riders and families.

Star gazing events: Some campgrounds host organized astronomy activities during clear nights. "Did participate in a star gazing event being held that weekend and it is still something my husband and I talk about regularly," shares Monica C. about her experience at Tippecanoe River State Park.

    What campers like

Site spacing: Many campers appreciate the thoughtful layout at Indiana Dunes State Park Campground. "The sight was spacious with plenty of room in between sites. There was plenty of space on all sides," reports Chris M. The campground designs sites to provide adequate separation while maintaining accessibility.

Cell service considerations: Coverage varies significantly between providers and locations. "I have AT&T service and could not use my phone at all, my husband has Verizon and had no problems with cell service," notes one Tippecanoe visitor. Verizon tends to have better coverage throughout the region compared to other carriers.

Shower facilities: Comfort stations receive regular maintenance at most established campgrounds. "Station A looked like it had been totally rehabbed in the last 5 years. Everything looked nice and the showers could be turned to your preferred temperature," explains Cynthia K. about Tippecanoe River State Park.

Gravel pads: Several campgrounds feature improved sites that help prevent equipment issues during wet weather. "There's gravel for your camper pad. Not dirt," mentions one reviewer, noting the practical difference this makes when camping after rainfall.

    What you should know

Seasonal insects: Summer months bring significant mosquito populations, particularly in wetland areas. "Worst place for mosquitoes," warns Rob H. about Tippecanoe River State Park. Insect repellent is essential from June through August, with spring and fall offering much more comfortable conditions.

Limited privacy: Many campgrounds feature open layouts with minimal vegetation between sites. "No privacy for most," notes a Tippecanoe visitor about the standard state park design. For more seclusion, request outer loop sites when available or consider weekday visits.

Train noise: Several campgrounds experience railroad sounds throughout the night. At Dunewood Campground, one visitor noted they "Could hear Trains throughout the night," despite otherwise enjoying the facilities. Light sleepers should bring earplugs or select sites furthest from rail lines.

Water availability: Most campgrounds require filling tanks before setting up. "Get water before setting up at the water station after the small gatehouse," advises one experienced camper. This prevents unnecessary disconnection and relocation after initial setup.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground proximity: For families with young children, site selection matters. At Tippecanoe River, "sites 2,3,4,6,&7 have direct access to a playground and you can watch your children from your site," recommends Cynthia K. These locations allow parents to supervise while maintaining camp activities.

Beach activities: Bass Lake State Beach provides water recreation options specifically designed for families. "Fun playground," notes one visitor. The lake features gradual entry points suitable for younger swimmers, though supervision remains essential.

Animals and farms: Some campgrounds feature small petting zoos or animal encounters. "FUN petting zoo, gemstone mining for the kids, hayrides, as well as crafts and a scavenger hunt. The grand kids loved this place and ask constantly when they get to go back!" shares Melanie H. about Hickory Hills Campground.

Activity planning: During summer weekends, scheduled events provide additional entertainment. "Lots of kids riding bikes and playing at the playground. Almost every camper brings their dog. It is how camping should be!" writes Dawn K. about the family atmosphere at Tippecanoe River State Park.

    Tips from RVers

Electrical connections: Prepare for varying hookup distances at regional campgrounds. "Be ready with back up cords, some sites require 75 ft to hook up," advises Frank M. about Potato Creek State Park. Extension cords rated for appropriate amperage are essential equipment.

Dump station logistics: Facility layouts can create traffic challenges during busy checkout periods. At Broken Aarow, "The dump station is up by their old entrance and in an odd spot. If you use it, you will have to take a long loop around the campground once you're done to get out," explains Derek J.

Site leveling: Most campgrounds feature relatively flat terrain, but minor adjustments may be necessary. "Our site ponded water after a rain, but soaked in fast," notes one Tippecanoe River camper. Leveling blocks remain useful, particularly for longer RVs with slide-outs.

Big rig accessibility: Several dog friendly campgrounds near North Judson accommodate larger vehicles with dedicated pull-through sites. "Site 58 is the only pull through in the campground," notes a Tippecanoe River visitor, highlighting the limited availability of these premium spaces.
