Lindenhurst campers have convenient access to the Chain O' Lakes region, which contains 15 interconnected lakes covering 7,100 acres of water. Winter temperatures average between 10°F and 32°F from December through February, while summer ranges from 65°F to 85°F. Several campgrounds offer fishing in stocked lakes with multiple species including bass, bluegill, and catfish.
What to do
Fishing opportunities: Chain O' Lakes State Park features several fishing spots at Mud Lake East, where campers can catch various species. "There are tons of trails, a small fishing pond and ok bathrooms. The staff is very friendly. There is horse riding here as well. The views are breathtaking," notes Christian V.
Water recreation: Take advantage of boating and swimming options at multiple lakes. "It shares a nice bath house with two other campgrounds on the property, Fox Den and Prairie View. Many trails and water hydrants," explains Debra M. about Turner South campground.
Horse riding: Book guided trail rides at Chain O' Lakes State Park from the on-site stables. "Horse stables and guided rides for horse lovers," mentions Jori W. The trails wind through wooded areas with lake views.
What campers like
Convenient location: Most campgrounds sit within 20-30 minutes of grocery stores and supplies. "This State Park isn't too far off the beaten path which is nice. Fairly close to gas stations, convenience stores, etc," explains Tyler about Mud Lake East.
Quiet atmosphere: Many campers appreciate the peaceful setting away from urban noise. At Northwoods RV Resort, guests mention the relaxed environment: "The sites are pretty big. The campground is not congested at all. The people are very nice. Everyone waves to everyone," according to Danielle D.
Well-maintained facilities: Clean bathrooms and showers make stays more comfortable. "Bathrooms are immaculate and are locked with electronic key cards," notes Marc W. about Sycamore RV Resort. The facilities typically include shower houses with hot water.
What you should know
No alcohol policy: Several area parks enforce strict alcohol bans. "No alcohol, they will issue a ticket," warns Kelly G. about Mud Lake East. Rangers actively patrol the grounds and enforce this rule.
Reservation requirements: Weekend spots fill quickly during summer months. At Sycamore RV Resort, availability can be limited: "Very nice, private sites. Not many campers, lots of RVs. Folks in the office were very helpful," notes Gypsy G.
Weather considerations: Spring camping often involves mud and standing water after rain. "It was a small RV park had a concert pad but not big enough for a 43 ft motor home. The site was 60 ft, but the whole site was not concrete. We were there for one night, it rained and the whole site had puddles around it," Carmen F. reports about NAVSTA Great Lakes RV Campground.
Tips for camping with families
Swimming options: Several campgrounds offer swimming areas with varying amenities. Thousand Trails Pine Country provides "nice good size pool, no jacuzzi, small play ground with a jumping pad. Pond for catch and release fishing," according to Susan T.
Kid-friendly activities: Look for campgrounds with recreational facilities. "My first impression when I first arrived here was the overwhelming scent of a newly minted campground, what with the freshly laid gravel, the mint condition security gates... jumping pillow, laundr-O-mat, propane refueling station and dump station," Stuart K. describes at Northwoods RV Resort.
Playground access: Most family-oriented rv campgrounds near Lindenhurst include play areas. Naga-Waukee Park offers "various bathroom options - ranging from pit toilets to port-o-potties. Showers available at the Beach House. The beach on the shores of Lake Nagawicka is well-groomed, clean, has a seasonal lifeguard and a playground within earshot," explains Ross K.
Tips from RVers
Parking assistance: Some rv campgrounds around Lindenhurst, Illinois provide parking guidance. At Sycamore RV Resort, "When we arrive, the host will bring you to your site and just listen to his directions and he will get you into your site perfectly. I asked if I could bring him on my future trips. I've never parked so easily," Marc W. shares.
Site selection: Choose sites based on your specific needs and priorities. "We enjoyed our stay and look forward to coming back soon," notes Abigail W. about Lehman's Lakeside RV Resort. Meanwhile, others recommend: "The best sites IMHO are those on the northernmost perimeter, as far away from the train tracks as you can get and that also border the Kishwaukee River with sites #S9-#S20 being excellent," advises Stuart K.
Full hookup limitations: Not all sites provide complete hookups. "Stayed here for a week, nice clean campground, quiet and beautiful lake for fishing, close to town, but yet just far enough out. Staff was nice and courteous, have full hookup sites, would highly recommend," Ron D. explains about their experience at Sycamore RV Resort.
