    Lava Hot Springs East KOA

    Family fun

The people, bathrooms, and showers are all awesome. There is some road noise but not more than you’d get anywhere else. LOTS of shade, right next to the river, pet friendly, and cabins are also able to be rented! Would definitely come here again.

T1 Campsite is A Hidden Oasis

We had scouted T1 campsite at the KOA Holiday in Lava Hot Springs. This campground runs along the creek and is directly across from Mary’s Campground. Site T1 is for a family of 2 maybe 3 but it’s large enough for 2 medium size tents and 1 large one and our canopy. The site itself is surrounded by water and even has a small water fall that you could sit in as if it were a small hot tub size. This KOA is clean and friendly staff. They do have a store for some basic supplies and sell firewood. Not only are there tent sites but also have RV sites, cabins camp and large family size cabins. They have bathrooms/showers and a large playground for young kids. This KOA is within walking distance to Lava Hot Springs Main Street which has places to eat, hot pools, stores, ice cream place and more. Definitely would stay at this KOA again and again.

    Pocatello KOA

    Good for a quick stay

Campsites are a little close with no privacy and there are no sewer connections at the individual sites. There are two dump sites on the backside of the store. Pretty much gravel throughout with some grass at the smaller sites. Amenities: kids playground area with grass, a small fenced dog park, horseshoes, picnic table at each site (no fire pits at the pull through sites). Inside the store: pool table, table tennis, and a foosball table. Overall a good clean campsite to hold you over for a day or two.

    Willow Bay Resort

    Nice Location

We stopped her in October and  the water level was extremely low.   The boats were dry docked and could not access the marina.  We chose this campground because we wanted to visit American Falls, which we did.  The area was beautiful, but there was not enough water to create a fall.

The campground is very peaceful with very large spaces and well kept.   We has a large grass area with a picnic table and fire pit, fires were prohibited while we were there because of the low water conditions.  Behind our space was the river/lake area that was dry.   Still the park had great views of the mountains and was very pretty.   There are many trails around for bike riding or off road vehicles.

The sites are full hook up, there is a bath/shower house and a laundry.  The staff is very helpful.  We were a bit early and when we arrived Jason was mowing our space.  It was completed very quickly.  There are restaurants in town about 5-10 minutes away and a grocery.  Wifi was excellent on T-Mobile and Visible.

    Great amenities and great location!

We needed a place to stay in our van for a few nights on our way to Grand Tetons. The owners were very friendly and helpful, Randy even brought us a picnic table for our spot. It was so nice to have a hot shower for a change. The bathhouse/restroom was very clean. There is laundry on site, which was a major plus for us. Cell service is great, and WiFi is provided. They also have large RV/camper spots, tent spots, and cabins. There’s a play area for children too. We are so grateful for them having us at their campsite, and if we are in the area again we will be back!

    Lava Hot Springs East KOA

A KOA right along the River!

This is a packed area for campground and other lodging!  There are 3 other places to stay along the same road including this KOA.  It does have quite a large store if you are staying nearby and need to stock up on things.  There are sites with options for hookups and it appeared there were some small cabins for rent.  A small railroad style bridge also crossed the river to the south

Beautiful gazebo and fire pit.  Most sites are back in.  It was old but quaint.

Fly fishing outfitter and campground in one

In Swan Valley the name of the game is fly fishing. This small campground is also a fly fishing outfitter and shop. While l was just passing through and I am not a fisherwoman, it seemed to offer pretty good services if that is your thing. I pulled in after hours but fortunately the owner’s dog alerted her to my presence and she was willing to open the office to rent me a tent site for the evening. There are 3ish tent sites(one was being worked on), about a half dozen pull thru RV sites, and 3 or 4 cabins for rent. There is a central bathhouse with two full bathrooms in a trailer for everyone to share. The bathhouse rooms are electronically accessed with codes the host gives you on check in. They were really nice and clean, like bathrooms in a typical modern home, except that one had the water heater tank in it and both had space heaters on the floor to plug in(fire hazard??). The tent site I chose was at the back of the campground so I didn’t have much highway noise, and fell asleep to the sound of the nearby horses grazing. Next door on the other side is a municipal building that appears to be the home base for the sheriff. The view of the back of the office/fly shop is not very picturesque, with boats and atv’s and odds and ends laying about. There are nice trees providing shade, but there is no real privacy between sites, tents, or cabins. The grass was quite lush, so I am wondering when the sprinkler system comes on. This place works as a layover or for someone who will take advantage of the fly fishing services, but not much else.

Great pull-through and the back-in spots are beautiful. Kid, pet friendly, walking distance to food and fun. One of the best KOA’s we have stayed at.

What to do

River activities: 3 miles away. The nearby Snake River offers fishing, tubing and water recreation opportunities. "At first we were not sure about this campground based on location. We were pleasantly surprised! The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The park for the kids was perfect and the pool was open too! Beautiful grounds and close to everything in town," notes Katie H. about Snake River RV Park & Campground.

Fishing spots: 20-minute drive. Wolverine Canyon provides multiple fishing locations with access to local streams. "About thirty minutes outside of Blackfoot before you hit gravel road. We only drove a short distance on gravel before we parked in a wide spot that had a fire pit. We could hear the babbling creek all night. So soothing. So quiet," explains Mary M. from Wolverine Canyon.

Golf and adventure activities: 10 miles east. Big Rock Campground offers proximity to outdoor recreation beyond just camping. "Off the main road. Good location with swimming, Zip line golfing and hiking," according to Mark G. at Big Rock Campground.

What campers like

Spacious sites: 30+ feet wide. Many cabin campers appreciate the generous spacing at certain locations. "The spaces are very big and flat. The people are very friendly and helped us find a good rv repair man who even answered the phone on a Sunday afternoon. I found the best lip balm ever in the store they have," reports Debbie M. about Snake River RV Park.

Peaceful natural sounds: Creek access. Wolverine Canyon offers quiet cabin settings with natural water features. "We could hear the babbling creek all night. So soothing. So quiet. Poor cell service," notes a visitor who appreciated the disconnected experience.

Clean facilities: Daily maintenance. Wakeside Lake RV Park maintains high standards for their bathroom and shower facilities. "Very clean restrooms. And staff was very accommodating, helpful and very friendly. I would love to stay longer but it was only a quick over night stop," mentions Donna H.

What you should know

Seasonal availability: May to October. Mountain River Ranch operates 65 cabin sites during warm weather months. "Quiet, recently changed owners so some amenities are not available yet. Water and electric, no sewer. There is a nice bath house with showers, no laundry at present," explains one reviewer.

Reservation requirements: Book 2-4 weeks ahead. Summer months fill quickly, especially for cabin accommodations. "It's a great location. Our site was large and shaded by beautiful mature trees. Very helpful and friendly staff/owners," says Erin H. about Wakeside Lake RV Park.

Varied amenity levels: Check before booking. Some cabins offer minimal services while others provide more comforts. "This KOA has mature trees and gravel rv pads. The sites are mostly level, but may need one block to be completely level. All the sites seem to fill up every night," advises Katy R. about Pocatello KOA.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Available at select locations. Families appreciate dedicated play areas for children. "They certainly have all the amenities including showers, a pool, hot tub and playground. It was nice having these amenities after several days without," notes Rachel C. about Snake River RV Park.

Water recreation: Bring floating devices. Warm Slough offers family-friendly water activities in warmer months. "My kids love tubing down the Warm Slough River and my son likes fishing along the banks," shares Shauna & Steve H.

Entertainment options: Pack accordingly. Some locations have limited activities for children. "A very simple RV park, nice shade, easy to access beach on a manmade lake. Staff was super helpful. My only complaint was that their website says there's a playground and I could not find one," mentions Jack Adrian L. about Wakeside Lake RV Park.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: Request shade in summer. Experienced RVers recommend specific site placement when booking cabin stays. "We were in site #1 which is by the playground and dog park, because we had both on our reservation. At first we were upset at our location, but it was actually great," shares Jon M. from Lava Hot Springs West KOA.

Utility availability: Varies by location. Check which hookups are available when booking cabin accommodations. "At my site there was one 50 amp and one 30 amp on the box. They had already plugged into the 30 which we needed also. Neither of us had a dog bone attachment," explains a Wakeside Lake RV Park visitor.

Storage considerations: Limited space in basic cabins. Plan storage solutions when staying in smaller accommodations. "Sites are level gravel and full hookups, 30 Amp. Most sites are shaded. Nice laundry facility, bathrooms and showers. They have glamping tents, and cabins available," advises Ann about Wakeside Lake RV Park.
