The Eden, Idaho area sits at approximately 4,500 feet elevation where the Snake River basin transitions from desert lowlands to the highland regions of the South Hills. Summer temperatures often reach 95°F during July and August, while winter nights can drop below 20°F with occasional snowfall. Cell service varies dramatically between campgrounds, with strong connectivity at developed sites like Ricketts RV Camp but spotty coverage in canyon areas.
What to do
Fishing opportunities: At Cauldron Linn BLM Dispersed camping area, anglers find productive fishing spots along the Snake River. "Great fishing, caught at least 4 fish a day while camping (small bass, there were several bigger fish but I didn't have the right lures)," notes camper Levi J. The water level changes seasonally, affecting both fishing and swimming access.
Waterfall exploration: Several campsites provide access to the area's notable waterfalls. From Cauldron Linn BLM Dispersed, visitors can follow shoreline trails to reach the falls. "You need to walk up the rocks and follow the path to the water falls. It is an easy walk on the path or you can climb some rocks," advises Lisa M., who found the waterfall trek worthwhile despite some rocky terrain.
Swimming holes: During summer months, several campsites offer swimming access in the Snake River's calmer sections. "Swimming in the pools near the waterfall made the trek so worth it," reports Ibeya A. at Cauldron Linn, who visited in early August when water levels were low enough to swim safely near the falls and camp on the beach areas.
What campers like
Unique geology: The dramatic landscape transitions from farmland to canyon formations at Snake River Canyons Park - Rickett's RV Camp. "Very easily accessible location with a few pull through spots and back in spots. All with fire rings & a picnic table," notes Bethany W., who appreciated the convenience of trash cans and vault toilets despite proximity to Highway 93.
Affordability: Budget-conscious campers frequently mention the value of camping near Eden. Murtaugh Lake Park Campground offers particularly economical rates. "Beautiful little area by the lake with some nice views of the mountain. The grounds are a little uneven at certain points with gopher holes, but every site has a nice fire pit and picnic area," comments Kami M., who enjoyed the low-key atmosphere.
Bird watching: The wetland areas around Twin Falls County Murtaugh Lake Park attract diverse bird species. "Woke up to lots of birds, including red-winged blackbirds, yellow-headed blackbirds, white pelicans and swans," reports Thomas B., who paid just $5 cash for a tent site. Morning hours typically offer the best bird watching opportunities.
What you should know
Road conditions: Access to some dispersed sites requires careful vehicle selection. At Cauldron Linn BLM Dispersed, road challenges are common. "Beautiful and peaceful, right on the river's edge. Lots to explore. No amenities so be prepared for that. Great place if the road in wasn't so stetchy. Barely made it out with 2wd E250 van," cautions Andy S., who recommends 4WD vehicles for the bumpy access road.
Seasonal insects: Summer months bring increased insect activity, particularly flies at some campsites. "This site was a one night stop but I would've stayed a bit longer if I could've it was quiet with some good views of the Snake river and the surrounding canyon walls. The one downside is there is a large amount of flys at this site," notes Henry W. about Cauldron Linn in late August.
Limited amenities: Most dispersed camping options near Eden lack basic services. "No fire ring," Frances L. simply states about Cauldron Linn, highlighting the need to bring essential supplies. For developed sites with more amenities, expect to pay between $15-45 per night depending on hookup requirements.
Tips for camping with families
Safety considerations: When camping with children near water features, supervision is essential. At Milner Historic Recreation Area, the Snake River provides recreation opportunities but requires caution. "The river here is calm enough to paddle board on. We spent lots of time on the water and even paddled across to some rocks and did a little cliff jumping (they aren't too high)," mentions Azaali J., who camped in the Trout loop directly beside the water.
Playground access: Families looking for developed facilities should consider campsites with dedicated play areas. "We found this spot last minute, late in the afternoon while on a multi day drive. Lots of spots, though we had the place to our on a Sunday night, early April. Great little trail along the river and falls. Perfect after a long day of driving," shares Laurin about Cauldron Linn, noting it was popular with their dogs as well.
Toilets and facilities: When camping with kids, bathroom access becomes particularly important. "The vault toilet area was actually very clean and not stinky. Full toilet paper rolls," reports Tuyen V. at Twin Falls County Murtaugh Lake Park, where tent sites are positioned right beside the lake with morning views.
Tips from RVers
Level sites: RV campers frequently comment on site conditions at Rock Creek RV Park in Twin Falls. "Great spot in Twin Falls. This campground drops you down to river level so you hardly know your in the big city. With the river running through and huge grass area it is beautiful," writes Mike M., who found the pricing reasonable compared to other area campgrounds.
Elevation changes: Some campgrounds feature steep entry roads that can challenge larger rigs. "The short road down to the park is a bit steep but doable. Fyi-Some spots are not very level There are large rigs here," warns Beth S. at Rock Creek RV Park, noting the convenient location and stream that runs through the grounds.
Hookup positioning: RVers should be prepared for sometimes unusual utility configurations. "Twin Falls county park within the city. Electric & water. Dump about a mile away. Extremely well maintained. Vault toilets. Lots of paved walkways. Narrow steep, short, paved road in and out, 40 foot rigs navigated in and out," reports Wanda K., who found the value good despite some access challenges.
