Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Fitzgerald, GA

First time at loves and loving it. Wi-Fi was good but we were the only ones there. Been open 3 weeks as of this review. 42 spots and very easy check in process. Do it from your phone or kiosk. Perfect for getting in and setting up no waiting on host or attendants. You must check in on phone or kiosk as the electric post are Wi-Fi connected and will not work without a reservation or check-in for that date. Once checked in post with activate plugs for power. Splash and play area and dog park. New pickle ball court with rental equipment at kiosk. Spots are close and most of the pads are only 50-55ft long pull thru and back in available. Also has a dog wash booth just outside the campground.

This little jewel has everything you need for a great time. Plenty of good walking trails and a great petting zoo. I love the old houses, it gives you a feeling of what it was like 100 years ago

We had a nice overnight stay coming back from florida. We love to stay anyplace with a lake or river so this was a pretty park with a nice lake. Not crowded which we love and pet friendly which is important to us.

Cozy and great for self contained. (Small one stall bathroom with shower). Stayed here a week in October with one other camper, very quiet and peaceful. Will have locals visit during the day for the fishing pond. Lots of room to walk dogs.

Chris was very welcoming when we arrived. Got a beautiful ahaded spot in an end and right across from the site.as a beautiful field our dog, Blaze, really enjoyed. The pool was open and already in use. Wevwill be back again.

We tent camped for 2 nights in campsite #1 in campground #1. This site is the first site to the right when you pull into the campground. There are trash cans at the campground exit and a direct line of sight view of the dump station. The west river trail runs right behind the campsite. The site itself is spacious with plenty of shade. There are a couple of good sets of trees for hanging a hammock. The electric box is a little further from the tent pad (which is packed sand and not gravel) than most sites I’ve stayed at, so I was happy that I brought an extension cord. The camp restrooms are adequate but not at all ADA accessible at campground #1. There are 3 toilet stalls, 2 that have working latches, and 2 shower stalls- both with working latches. Both of the showers have a small little room for you to change clothes with a hook on the wall and a hook on the door and a little bench. If you’re tall, be ready to duck to get your head under the water because the shower heads are low. Temperature and pressure were good. Bonus perk- stray cats at the campground.

The park itself has some cool trails. We hiked the west river trail all the way to the farm at the front of the park. It took us over wooden boardwalks over swampy Cyprus areas and through the forest around the 17 mile river. It was pretty and the heritage tobacco farm was really cool. There are restrooms and a coke machine at the farm. The coke machine takes cards, but bring lots of water with you. There are lots of animals that are used to being fed, so buy some food at the visitor’s center, or prepare to be made to feel guilty. The farm is situated next to a small lake, and when the world isn’t shutdown due to COVID-19, they rent boats. The lake is big enough to boat around in for a little while and there are fish to be caught- carp from what I could tell.

There was a small gravel road that split off from the first group picnic shelter area that takes you down to the 17 mile river for fishing access. The 17 mile river dries up some years, but the deeper “lakes” keep water in them during those dry years. The river wasn’t flowing while we were here, but there was some standing water in places that would have been dry if it hadn’t rained recently.

The park is about an hour and a half drive from the main entrance of the Okefenokee swamp. We drove down there and rented a kayak so we both could go paddle the swamp. On the way down there, somewhere outside of waycross, we passed a mudding course, if that’s more your style.

Overall, this is someplace that I probably wouldn’t come back to because I’ve done all the things that the park has to offer, and there are more parks to explore. It’s definitely worth a visit for a night or two, or as a jumping off point for other activities this part of the state has to offer.

Small, quiet on hydro-electric side of river. Some people are slobs and our dog kept finding food scraps - like chicken bones. Great staff. I would repeat.

Bathrooms not so great, need to be touched up as 1960 decor is looking tired

Ranger Review: OOFOS shoes at Cordele KOA Journey

Campground Review:

Right off I75 in Georgia sits a small KOA with TONS of amenities! Being just a block off the interstate I assumed it would be noisy. But all the trees make a great sound barrier and we had a nice quiet weekend and will definitely be back!

This campground accommodates Campers, with spaces up to 90 foot long! (up to 50 amp), Tents, and even offers Cabin Rental! Has a pool, propane fill station, firewood to purchase, laundry room and updated bathhouse. a dog area, wifi and even offers cable, for the people who like to camp inside 😉

Our weekend cost was about $70 for out tent site, there were a few people staying in a camper long term who mentioned they do offer reduced rates. I didn’t get to check on the cabins, but they look super cute from the outside and run $50 a night if you book online.

Nearby attractions (we did not visit) include Lake Blackshear, a manmade lake, with a really cool dam, and Georgia Veterans State Park on one side. They have a marina and beach. And The Andersonville National Historic Site the location of a Confederate prison where 13,000 Union soldiers died.

I'm telling you now, this is the most comfortable thing I've ever put on my feet! It's like walking on pillows every step you take! I have arthritis in both my knees and have been having some trouble lately. The day my shoes got here I was eager to try them on, and once I did, they didnt come off the rest of the night! They help with the pain of walking, and my knees havent hurt in a week. I'm in love!

They're made of a really squishy, super lightweight foam. And have a breathable mesh top. I ordered the light gray color, and love the tiny pop of lime green in the logo and little tag to help pull them on. I was hesitant when I seen they had no laces and the rubber strap on top was fixed. But i had no problems getting them on, the mesh is stretchy and my foot slid right in!

My only complaint is that small rocks get stuck in the bottom of the shoe, in the middle tread. But, they're easy to pop out.

They also offer flip flops too, so that will be my next purchase. OOFOS will be my go to shoes from now on!

One of the better State Parks in Georgia

I rent a little cabin and it was really nice. I usually camp with tents but with the Georgia heat and all the bugs I wasnt going to deal with it this time. I would recommend the same. The cost is fair and they are clean.

We really enjoyed our stay at Georgia Veterans Memorial SP. we stayed in site 72 on Camping area #3. It faced the woods with a walking path. It was very private with the exception of the occasional hiker. So it was very nice to feel so secluded.

This is a good campground divided into 2 loops. Many pull throughs. We had site #12 which was gigantic. All the sites are open to your neighbors. Small park with a few trails, small pond, and farm. The farm was great with chickens, sheep, donkey and horse. On our visit there were 3 day old lambs!! Can fish in small pond and rent peddle boats or kayaks but this pond is very small. This is a great place for 3/4 days. Went for dinner and to local bakery in nearby town of Douglas Georgia.

Our GPS accurately brought us in from Montgomery, AL, to Wanee. This was our third time here, but the first time since the campground (CG) was bought by Outdoor Adventure Retreats. We had reserved a site in the new area that used to be the diving range. Check in was quick and we received a nice information package. We were then escorted to back-in site 41 with FHUs. As the new section had only been open for a month. We were told we’re probably the first to stay in this site. We did get some brown water when we first connected, but that cleared after running the water for a few minutes. The cement pad was plenty long enough for our 40’ 5th wheel, and there was plenty of gravel to park our F450. The utilities are centered on the pad, which was nice to be able to reach both sewer dumps. The water pressure was okay at about 40 psi. We got two bars on Verizon and a clear shot for Starlink. The CG has really good WiFi with a download speed of 52.2. We were here for a week to play golf, but due to cold weather we only got out a couple of times. Their golf packages with a cart are for a monthly stay, but the golf prices are still good and they offer a 10% military discount. Without golf, you can rent a golf cart for $20 per day. They have a bath house with laundry ($2 to wash and $2 to dry) with plans to expand. The old section still has the majority of the full-timers and transients. There’s a new fenced dog area. Not huge, but a decent size. Site 41 doesn’t have any close neighbors and is probably one of the best sites in the CG. You are near the first tee, and we enjoyed watching golfers tee off. There should be enough trees to stop a sliced ball from hitting your rig. We noticed that the old area’s permanent or transient residents’ sites were neat and orderly. The last two times we stayed here, that was not the case. Hopefully, this is new management’s doing, and they keep that practice going.

This beautiful hidden gem is just a stone’s throw west of Adel, Georgia. Accessible off of Interstate 75, this State Park is worth visiting. Activities you can enjoy are camping, boating, fishing, kayaking, hiking, swimming, geocaching, and picnicking. The staff are wonderful and the campground is well kept. They have bike a bike rental shop at the campground along with firewood and other necessities. There’s a shower house that is availability to all campers. We absolutely love it here!! So close to home but far enough to get away:)

Wonderful State Park in southern Georgia! Chose our site from the pictures and it was perfect. Sites in lower loop one were spaced out and the back in sites were tucked into the woods, just the way we had hoped. Most sites are gravel and ours was well maintained and level, with a new large picnic table and fire pit with grill cover. The basic cable was a bonus! Restrooms were older but clean and well stocked. The upper loop 2 had a brand new bath house, and both had laundry facilities. The park itself has TONS of open green space! Great quiet weekend getaway.
