Lake activities and swimming: Fort Yargo State Park provides a 260-acre lake with various water recreation options. "There is disc golf, nature programs, gift shop, putt-putt golf, playgrounds, hiking, mountain biking, and a 260-acre lake offers swimming, boating, paddling, and fishing," according to Nancy W. from Fort Yargo State Park Campground.
Mountain biking: Stone Mountain Park features extensive trail systems appropriate for various skill levels with rental options available. "There are bike trails and plenty of entertainment for all," mentions Holly B. from Stone Mountain Park Campground.
Waterfront camping: Newton Factory Shoals Recreation Area provides waterfront sites with natural features. "We had a waterfront site (site 4) due to the fact somebody checked out early. We had a happy little bonus of getting to watch the beavers play in the river early in the morning," shares Nicolle from Newton Factory Shoals Rec Area.
What campers like
Spacious, private sites: Fort Yargo State Park offers walk-in sites for more seclusion. "If you're like me and appreciate a bit of privacy when camping, the walk-in campsites at Fort Yargo are the place to go. Just a short 1-2 minutes walk from your car and bathrooms, but you feel much more secluded than the campsites in the regular campground," according to Amalia K.
Well-maintained facilities: Stone Mountain Park Campground receives regular upkeep. "Good for a quick get away while still having access to 'city life'. There are some beautiful spots close to the water where you do feel like you're deep in nature," reports Jessica D.
Family-friendly activities: High Falls State Park offers multiple recreation options. "This campground is great if you have kids. The playground is centrally located. Trails are easy to get to and the falls are a nice sight," states Bille W. from High Falls State Park Campground.
Wildlife viewing opportunities: The dog friendly campgrounds near Social Circle provide natural settings for wildlife observation. "We were able to walk off of the back of our site and onto the trail system, which is perfect because we are avid hikers," shares George & Patty C., who also noted deer walking through their site at Hard Labor Creek.
What you should know
Seasonal crowd variations: Hard Labor Creek experiences significant differences between weekday and weekend camping. "Very crowded weekends, great weekdays. The weekend nights were so crowded with cars spilling into the camp roads, loads of large groups at each site. Felt very claustrophobic. On weekdays the park became a lovely ghost town," reports Christina.
Water quality considerations: Some campsites have mineral content in water supply. "There was some sediment in the water from the spigot and it seemed to have a bit of a chlorine taste. I would suggest bring your own water or a water filter," advises Karen C. from Indian Springs State Park Campground.
Navigation challenges: Following proper directions prevents routing problems. "Be careful and follow the Campground signs and not your GPS because you might come in a different way and have to navigate an overpass that, for some rigs, is too short," warns Debbie K.
Site selection importance: Site-specific reservations allow for targeted bookings. "This campground is now site-specific (meaning that you reserve a specific site prior to arrival) and this worked perfectly for us because we're familiar with the best sites," notes George & Patty C.

Tips from RVers
Leveling requirements: Prepare for uneven terrain at some campgrounds. "The sites are pretty big, shaded, no level but not too bad I'm always prepared, and well maintained," explains Winston M.
Site access considerations: Check site dimensions before booking. "The campground is a good campground—clean and fairly easy for our big fifth wheel to get in to," reports Debbie K.
Full hookup availability: Some sites offer complete connections without clear labeling. "The only thing was no one told us our site had full hookups. We paid for a deluxe site but nothing indicated on the reservation it had sewer connections. Had we known we would have taken showers in our own camper," shares Maethea R.
Pull-through options: Pine Lake RV Campground accommodates easier access. "We stopped here as an overnight on our way to our final destination. They were very hospitable and put us into an easy pull through site that we could easily just come in and go out the next morning," notes Spencer & Jessica S.
