Victoria Bryant State Park Campground offers spacious tent sites with platform shelters and electrical outlets, making it ideal for camping with dogs. All campsites in this park near Royston allow pets, with large, level sites set apart from neighboring campers to provide privacy. The campground features hiking trails suitable for leashed pets, a playground for families, and a creek area where many visitors bring their dogs to play in the water. Several miles of lower difficulty trails wind through dense forest, providing ample walking opportunities for pets and owners. The campsites look out into wooded areas rather than facing other campers, creating a natural experience for both pets and their owners. Dogs particularly enjoy wading in the cool, clean water at the park's popular Slippery Rock area.

The RV sites include water and electric hookups with accessible gray water dump stations throughout the campground. While Victoria Bryant doesn't offer sewer connections at individual sites, the facilities are well-maintained with clean bathrooms and showers that are regularly serviced and heated during colder months. For those camping with pets in the area, Tugaloo State Park Campground provides another nearby option with lakefront sites where dogs can enjoy water access. Most sites at Tugaloo are situated right on the lake, offering pets swimming opportunities, though the campground can become crowded during summer months with sites positioned closer together than at Victoria Bryant. Both parks maintain pet waste disposal areas and require dogs to be leashed when outside the immediate campsite area.

      Willow Valley RV Resort

Raybun Gap, GA….Going on our fav list!!

Very very nice campground. Good signage and off 441 N. Not any places to eat without going into Clayton. Beautiful park with large sites, some paved. Laundry to was clean. Reasonable size dog park, dog walk and outside dog bath. Lots of trees, very clean and trash pickup at your site. Office lady was very nice and check in was efficient, even though we made the reservations at the last minute. It’s not cheap by any means but you get a lot of bang for your buck.

      Fort Yargo State Park Campground

      Relaxation in The Woods

Fort Yargo is in the Winder Ga area and is close to Helen, Jefferson, Athens and Atlanta. Entering the campground is a nice paved road and leads to tent camping, cabins, yurts and RV sites.

Very clean park and has Historical area, playground, tennis court, bike and hike trails. Not to mention beach and boating area.

Picnics, camping, boating biking and camping or just day use areas. Pet friendly and all around great park.

There is a small general store, but you are so close to everything if you need it, it's there.

Gread for the Georgia Bulldog crowd as its less then 30 minutes!

      I recommend this park highly.

Sarah's Creek Campground (Clayton, Ga) — Chattahoochee Oconee National Forest

      Great for Tent Camping!

Stayed here in July 2020. Campsites are available on a first come, first served basis. There is no cell service. It's pet friendly. No water or electric hookups. Bathrooms are toilet only and no running water or temperature control.

There's the facts. Now on to the good stuff.

The road to get to some of these sites is ROUGH. Definitely not a road to drive for those who aren't skilled in off road driving.

We stayed in one of the back sites near the creek (I can't recall the number). Most of the sites were VERY secluded. We could see our neighbors in the distance, but not very well.

Some of the sites are HUGE. Ours was one of those large ones.

There are bugs everywhere. Make sure you know how to set up your site to repel bugs!

This campground has it all - fishing, hiking, waterfalls, wildlife, etc. It's a primitive camper's dream!

      Chau Ram County Park

      Beautiful, quiet, and clean

Beautiful kid and pet friendly campground. Waterfalls, hikes and free fishing gear available. Non dispersed campsites. Quiet neighbors. We could hear the water current at our site. Site 17 is spacious. We fit 2 vehicles, 20x10 tent and another 4person tent along with chairs inflatable couch and all that with plenty of room to move around. All the staff are extremely friendly and helpful! Clean bathrooms. The hooks for your belongings are out side of the shower. Different but manageable.

    Guide to Royston

Campgrounds near Royston, Georgia provide easy access to Lake Hartwell, with its 962 miles of shoreline and over 56,000 acres of water surface. The region's elevation ranges from 660 to 850 feet above sea level, creating varied camping terrain with pine and hardwood forests. Most campgrounds in the area remain open year-round, though water levels in Lake Hartwell typically drop 4-8 feet during winter months.

    What to Do

Explore the gorge trails: Watson Mill Bridge State Park Campground offers several miles of scenic trails with varying difficulty levels. "We enjoyed every minute of our stay here, from the time we arrived to the time we left," writes one camper. "The park has the usual stuff to purchase (ice, firewood, etc.) but you can also head to Hartwell and hit the local Wally World if need be."

Kayaking from your site: At Lake Hartwell State Park Campground, many lakefront sites allow direct water access. "We stayed at site 54 and our friends were at site 52. Both sites had nice tree cover and great views of the lake with plenty of space," notes one visitor. The park offers "tent sites with lake access as well but are right on top of each other. I could almost touch two of the tent pads at the same time."

Wade in natural swimming areas: Within 30 minutes of Royston, multiple parks offer natural swimming spots instead of developed beaches. Twin Lakes at Lake Hartwell has "a nice swimming area and the playgrounds were sadly closed but definitely would have been enjoyed by my kids! Overall it was quiet and relaxing."

    What Campers Like

Spacious sites with separation: At Watson Mill Bridge State Park Campground, the tent sites feature unique amenities. "The tent sites are AMAZING! We've never seen these shelters before! You can even hang your hammock(s) underneath the shelter for a true outdoor camping experience," notes one camper. These platform shelters provide practical protection from weather while maintaining an outdoor feel.

Year-round camping options: Unlike many area parks that close seasonally, Watsadler Campground remains open all year. "We like to camp but we don't like to rough it so we call it Glamping. Watsadler has nice spacious sites. Only sites 1, 11, 24, & 26 do not have access to the water. The rest are right at the waters edge."

Dog-friendly water access: Dog friendly campgrounds near Royston typically offer water access points where pets can play. "We absolutely loved this campground. Lots of trails and great creek swimming spots for the dogs. We are planning a trip back late summer so we can enjoy the water," writes a visitor to Victoria Bryant State Park. Many pet-friendly campsites throughout the region have dedicated areas where dogs can safely wade.

    What You Should Know

Limited sewer connections: Most state parks and Corps of Engineer campgrounds near Royston offer water and electric but not sewer. A camper at Tugaloo State Park Campground notes: "My wife and I decided to make a last minute trip to Tugaloo State Park this past weekend. The sites were large and spacious. No sites with sewer, but dump station has two receptacles so there was no wait to dump tanks on way out."

Winter facilities: For cold-weather camping at pet-friendly campgrounds near Royston, bathhouses are typically heated. At Watson Mill Bridge, "The restrooms were very clean. The restrooms were a bit of a walk and I saw them being maintained regularly."

Site selection matters: At Springfield-Hartwell Lake, "We stayed at site 7 for 4 nights and then site 68 for 2 nights. Water access wasn't the best on 7, but we enjoyed it." Research site-specific reviews before booking as water views and access vary dramatically even within the same campground.

    Tips for Camping with Families

Dog-accessible playgrounds: Many campers with pets appreciate the dual-purpose facilities at Royston area campgrounds. "We spent most of the day there, and the weather (late August) was perfect!" notes a family at Victoria Bryant State Park Campground.

Lakefront tent options: For families willing to sacrifice space for views, Lake Hartwell State Park offers beautiful waterfront tent sites. "I camped at one of the walk in tent sites. Not too far from parking area so it was easy to get gear to site. Lake is absolutely beautiful and a blast to swim in."

Rain considerations: When booking primitive sites, consider weather forecasts. "Beautiful park with very nice trails. But if there is rain in the forecast do not, for the love of God, do not camp in the pioneer sites. You will get flooded. It's mostly downhill on a shifty walkway full of rocks and DANGER!"

    Tips from RVers

Mind the turns: Several campgrounds near Royston present navigation challenges. At Carolina Landing RV Resort, "The campground itself is gorgeous, heavily wooded and lots of hills. The park also has lots of hills which can be a challenge for some RVs. There are also some very tight turns on these hills."

Site leveling needs: RVers should bring leveling blocks to pet-friendly campsites near Royston. "Depending on which spot you pick...bring leveling blocks. The spot I stayed in required about 4" side to side. Some spots were water view and quite spacious."

Dump station timing: During peak checkout periods, plan for wait times at dump stations. "The dump station has only a single drain, so last minute checkout leads to long lines." Arrive early on departure day or consider using your gray water dump throughout your stay where available.
