Best RV Parks & Resorts near Monticello, GA

Several RV parks near Monticello, Georgia provide full hookup options for motorhome travelers. Atlanta South RV Resort in McDonough features 30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer hookups on sites that accommodate large rigs. Scenic Mountain RV Park in Milledgeville offers year-round access with full hookups and limestone pads suitable for larger motorhomes. Pine Lake RV Campground in Bishop provides spacious sites with 50-amp service, while Big Country Camping features just six RV sites with full hookups including 30/50-amp electric. I was able to park my 45 ft. motorhome and Jeep toad without unhooking."

Most RV parks in the region maintain gravel or crushed stone pads rather than concrete, requiring leveling equipment at some locations. Dump stations are available at most parks, though a few smaller facilities lack this amenity. Cell service quality fluctuates throughout the area, with stronger signals typically found at parks closer to Interstate 75. According to one visitor, "Very quiet and peaceful location. I had a full hookup site. Excellent cell signal which is important since I work remotely from my camper." Pet policies vary by location, with most parks permitting dogs but enforcing leash requirements. Propane fill service is limited to larger facilities, while laundry amenities are commonly available at established RV resorts. During peak travel seasons, particularly fall, advance reservations are recommended as parks with limited site numbers fill quickly.

Hard Labor Creek State Park Campground

    One of the BEST!

We were back at HLC this past weekend and, as always, top-notch park! We have tent camped for several years but recently upgraded to a new (to us) pop up and we had a blast!

We camped at site 26 (one of the newer sites) and it had full hookup (our PUP does not have a bathroom but does have a galley). The site has electric (50 amp and 30 amp service) as well as free cable TV!!

The sites at HLC are well spaced and the bath houses are spotless!!

The park staff is amazing and the camp hosts are always cleaning up and are available if you need anything!

HLC is our go-to spot for a weekend getaway because of the above-mentioned reasons and it is close to home!!

    Claystone Park Campground

    Great campground to visit

I have lived in and around Bibb County, Georgia most of my life and I have always enjoyed going to Tobesofkee Recreation Parks. There were four parks but one was shut down (Flintrock Park). I believe the park was built back in the 60’s. Early morning on Mother’s Day of 2008 a tornado came through leaving destruction to all three parks. The campground bathhouse’s saved around 50 people that were camping when the tornado came ripping through destroying campers, cars and trees. The county has rebuilt the three parks and each one offers a little something different. It’s pretty great place in my opinion.

Claystone Park: Lake Tobesofkee access, large beach, playground, water sports, boat ramps, fishing, disc golf, several small pavilions, one large enclosed pavilion, numerous picnic tables throughout the park and camping. The campground has 45 sites, some tents, back-ups and pull through. Not sure about tents sites but all camper sites have 20/30/50 amp service, water and poor cable service. There are a few sites with sewer. The campground does have a nice bathhouse with coin operated laundry.

Sandy Beach Park: Lake Tobesofkee access, large beach, water sports, fishing, several small pavilions, one large open pavilion, numerous picnic tables throughout the park and a water park.

Arrowhead Park: Lake Tobesofkee access, small beach, water sports, fishing, several small pavilions, one large open pavilion, numerous picnic tables throughout the park, mountain bike trail, playground, boat ramps and camping. The campground has 58 sites, some tents, back-ups and pull through. Not sure about tents sites but all camper sites have 20/30/50 amp service and water; no cable. There are a few sites with sewer. The campground does have two nice bathhouse with coin operated laundry.

    High Falls State Park Campground

    Beautiful

The park is gorgeous and well maintained. It’s a little tight in a place or two but we’re pulling a 40’ fifth wheel and had no problems. We stayed in spot 71 which was a pull through with large lot that was really nice. Fire pit, picnic table and grill as well. I’m uploading a set of maps. You definitely need them as the sites are marked nicely but the areas are not and it’s very confusing. Also if you use maps on a device make sure you add campground because there are a few other places you don’t want to go pulling a rig since the campground is in a state park. Great for hiking, biking, fishing etc. Plain on zero internet or cell coverage. I’m all about the camping adventure but I like to be able to contact the kids if needed. Overall great place.

    High Falls State Park Campground

    Falls

Went to High Falls State Park in January. site number 27. We stayed 8 nights There are two campgrounds- lakeside and River camping area. Lakeside is by High falls Lake and is closest to the falls. River camping is across the street we stayed in River camping area. Nice sites but open to neighbors. Sites included table, fire ring, lantern hook. Some sites are 30 amp some 50 amp and had some pull through sites. After the weekend we were one of only a few in the campground in January. Weather may change this time of year we had a lot of rain one day and freezing temperatures overnight but mostly it was good camping weather. Camp hosts were awesome!!! This park is not far off i-75. Dollar general was a few miles other than that not much around. Very easy hiking trail to waterfalls and several trails along Towaliga River, ruins of an old Mill. There is no swimming in falls or river. Afterr rain falls were flowing very fast. This park also has a swimming pool, mini golf, yurts, boat rentals all were closed in January. Bathhouses were well maintained and had laundry facilities. Phone and TV reception we're good at this park. 8 days was too much here I would recommend 4 to 5 days or as a stopover point but would definitely return here.

    Atlanta South RV Resort

Convenient rest stop or long term stay

This park is located  just south of Atlanta an d is a great place to overnight on your way to a destination, or for more long term stay for out of town workers. Lots of shopping and good restaurants nearby

Great staff,  grounds very and clean neatly kept.  A little snug getting in and out with a big rig, but absolutely doable.

A great place to pull off of I75 and get out of the traffic . Sleep in and then take off when traffic is not so heavy!!

    Al Sihah Shrine Park

    Quiet, Clean, Well Maintained

This is the nicest place to stay in the Macon area. I first checked out Safe Haven, and it was not a nice place. This place is run by the Shriners and apparently proceeds from the park go to support the children’s hospital. The campground area is huge with different site areas– short term, long term, and long-long term. I stayed one night in the short term area. There is a pond and a large event center with a commercial kitchen. Oddly, there are no bathrooms that I could find in the building. There are no bathrooms or showers anywhere in the park. It was designed for self-contained units. There are concrete pads with full hookups at each of the short terms sites but they are way too close together. I gave it a four but debated about a three because of site spacing and the lack of bathrooms/showers.

Guide to Monticello

RV camping near Monticello, Georgia provides overnight and extended stay options within a 30-mile radius of this central Georgia town. The region features rolling hills at elevations between 600-700 feet with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Fall temperatures typically range from 50-75°F, creating comfortable camping conditions from September through November when humidity levels decrease and nighttime temperatures drop into the 40s.

What to do

Hiking trails access: Stone Mountain Park Campground offers several hiking options including the 1-mile trek to the summit with 700-foot elevation gain. "We spent a weekend here in section O. It was a nice, spacious campsite with a nice picnic table and partial view of the lake even though we didn't have 'lake view' site," notes reviewer Tonya B.

Fishing opportunities: Big Country Camping provides on-site fishing with easy lake access. "Ten miles from Jackson Lake and canoeing opportunities along Ocmulgee River," mentions Ashley F., highlighting the property's proximity to multiple water recreation sites.

Historical exploration: Madison RV Park serves as a convenient base for exploring the area's historical sites. The campground's location provides access to Madison's historic district featuring antebellum homes and museums within a short drive.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Scenic Mountain RV Park maintains well-kept amenities according to visitors. "Clean and beautifully maintained facilities and grounds," reports Laurie K., while another camper notes, "The bathhouse is small but they do have a dog wash station outside the bath house complete with a tub, a ramp and hot and cold water."

Spacious sites: Pine Lake RV Campground offers generous camping spots according to guests. "Lots of wide open space and nice sites," writes Spencer & Jessica S., who stopped overnight during travel. Another reviewer mentions, "Mixture of pull thru and back in sites. Been coming here for years and can't say enough great stuff about the staff and the site."

Family-friendly amenities: Interstate RV Park provides convenient facilities for traveling families. Though compact, the park features "a nice clean pool" according to Bill, who appreciates the overnight stop location. "Decent park, mostly full-timers in here. What you should know

Reservation timing: During peak seasons, especially fall, campgrounds fill quickly. At Safe Haven RV Park, guests appreciate the availability: "Less than a half mile off of 75, this is a nice little stop for overnights, however the monthly rates also make it economical for longer stays," notes Keith R.

Leveling challenges: Many sites require equipment for proper RV leveling. "Our site (12) was an easy pull through right by an exit," mentions Carey R. from Pine Lake RV Campground, though other campers mention limestone pads rather than concrete at several parks.

Varying site spacing: Site proximity differs significantly between campgrounds. As one camper at Atlanta South RV Resort observed, "Definitely an RV park, not resort. No frills and packed tighter than sardines, but easy and convenient for a one night stay on the way to somewhere else."

Tips from RVers

Spacious pull-through sites with 50/30/20 amp service, with new upgraded electrical," reports Brittany V. about Forsyth KOA, though noting sites were "rather unlevel."

Laundry facilities: Several campgrounds provide on-site laundry options. "Very clean shower houses, laundry facilities, full hook ups," states Robert J. about Pine Lake RV Campground, making it convenient for extended stays.

Electric service reliability: Most parks offer 50-amp service for power-hungry RVs. At Riverside Estates RV Park, a long-term camper notes, "There are 4 areas, and one is a flood zone. They are still upgrading the park slowly but they are. The park is very kid friendly, there is a dog pen area, there are dog waste bag stations."
