Right off I75 in Georgia sits a small KOA with TONS of amenities! Being just a block off the interstate I assumed it would be noisy. But all the trees make a great sound barrier and we had a nice quiet weekend and will definitely be back!
This campground accommodates Campers, with spaces up to 90 foot long! (up to 50 amp), Tents, and even offers Cabin Rental! Has a pool, propane fill station, firewood to purchase, laundry room and updated bathhouse. a dog area, wifi and even offers cable, for the people who like to camp inside 😉
Our weekend cost was about $70 for out tent site, there were a few people staying in a camper long term who mentioned they do offer reduced rates. I didn’t get to check on the cabins, but they look super cute from the outside and run $50 a night if you book online.
Nearby attractions (we did not visit) include Lake Blackshear, a manmade lake, with a really cool dam, and Georgia Veterans State Park on one side. They have a marina and beach. And The Andersonville National Historic Site the location of a Confederate prison where 13,000 Union soldiers died.

They're made of a really squishy, super lightweight foam. And have a breathable mesh top. I ordered the light gray color, and love the tiny pop of lime green in the logo and little tag to help pull them on. I was hesitant when I seen they had no laces and the rubber strap on top was fixed. But i had no problems getting them on, the mesh is stretchy and my foot slid right in!
My only complaint is that small rocks get stuck in the bottom of the shoe, in the middle tread. But, they're easy to pop out.
They also offer flip flops too, so that will be my next purchase. OOFOS will be my go to shoes from now on!

I rent a little cabin and it was really nice. I usually camp with tents but with the Georgia heat and all the bugs I wasnt going to deal with it this time. I would recommend the same. The cost is fair and they are clean.

GuideLots of room. Spacious campsites. The hosts are friendly. Propane tanks picked up and filled for you. There’s a large fenced dog park. Laundry available. Clean bath houses. There are small comping cabins available. I have full hookups. The area is remote and quiet, but the Walmart and dollar store are right up the road if you forget something.

I camped at this park as a child and will always remember hearing the animals from the zoo in the middle of the night. The lions roaring and the monkeys howling isn't something that many campgrounds can offer. There is plenty to do at the park including fishing, boating, bmx and mountain biking, frisbee golf, a splash park, great playgrounds, and of course you must walk through the zoo. There are currently 44 RV sites, 18 tent sites, and several camper/cabins.
TravelerWe stopped here on our way south to Florida out of curiosity. Earlier in the year, we had been in Cordele to ride the SAM Railway which was based next to the park and had decided to stop on our way back through and check out the campground. The GVSP is well maintained with alot of open space, lake access and a historical museum honoring Georgia Veterans. The camping area is spacious with back in and pull through sites. The roadways were narrow and paved with the sites being gravel and level in most cases. Sites along the lakefront are a bit more expensive but the lake can be viewed from any site. Shower houses are cleaned daily by camp hosts and are well maintained. We were advised by another camper that sites fill up quickly on weekends but are usually available during the week. We only spent 2 nights (on a whim) but will return for a longer stay in the future. A great area for biking, fishing and boating.
RangerCampsites– some spots are spacious like the pull thru but it appears everyone shares one electrical box with a neighbor. Pull thru sites are nice packed gravel/clay and a lot of the back in sites are grassy. There are longer stays available here and some of the sites have that “little too comfortable” look. There is a military base in town, so I am sure this used by military and government workers at times. You will have to call and make your reservation. From past experiences- it is good to double check your reservation or have them email you/mail you your confirmation- check to make sure the site you are assigned has the hook up you are paying for and if you have to share an electrical box you need to find out if there are two 50 amps or if one user gets a 30 amp and the other gets a 50AMP.
There are a couple of cabins and there is also a tent/group camping area too.
Bathhouse- has a washers/ dryers in a screened in area. Bathroom facility is older but maintained. NOTE–> Only one Shower and one family shower
WIFI was only ok- we thought we would get better being so close to Albany. It was better with our boosters, and we used verizon jet packs with our sprint phones.
Activities- we always camp here when we participate in the annual Nut Roll biking event (30-100 mile options)
There is a small wild life park with animal exhibits(extra fee) , hiking trails, mountain biking trails, fantastic playground and water element for kids, BMX track, remote control car track, disc golf and kayaking/fishing just outside the park entrance. There is a more extensive review on our website about the activities.
LegendGeorgia Veterans State Park sits next to Lake Blackshear and shares the lake front with a resort. There is a marina , condos and a golf course on resort side. On the Park side there is the much more desirable campground:)
There are plenty of options to choose from in the three camping “loops”. Some lakeside sites have direct access to the water and in camping area 1 you can get pretty close to the fishing pier. A lot of the sites are pull through , in area 3 all sites are pull through and several of the sites border one of the Nature trails. The primitive walk in tent sites are in area 3. There are two handicap accessible sites and two double sites for group camping(the other sites are close together so this just puts you on the same “pad”)There is shade but definitely more on some sites then others. Not a lot of privacy. It wasn’t real busy or noisy so the open layout wasn’t a major hang up for me. This is definitely more of a “organized”, well maintained, military feel campground. I didn’t get the State Park in the woods vibe at all :)

We only took the time to camp and hike but you could easily spend some time here and do something different every day. I’m unfamiliar with the area and wildlife so I kept the boys on short leashes when we walked in the woods , especially near the water. The trails were nice, somewhat maintained and there was old signage plus benches. Not my favorite this trip but nice enough.
TravelerWe really enjoyed our stay at Georgia Veterans Memorial SP. we stayed in site 72 on Camping area #3. It faced the woods with a walking path. It was very private with the exception of the occasional hiker. So it was very nice to feel so secluded.

A great little place to stay in middle Georgia. The staff was terrific! Very clean and well maintained. It was somewhat close to the interstate so expect some highway noise but not bad as there were trees to help block some of the noise. Easy on and off the highway. A staff member to show you to your site. Over-all a great place to stay!!
LegendA little background: I used to live five minutes from this park, and it used to be the first campground we visited every year to work out all the gear details. Back then (2012-2015), it was great! Absolutely beautiful, well maintained, gorgeous.
Now... the park itself is still great. Obviously it was hit by a hurricane, but the cleanup and improvements are coming along in those areas. They playground has always been amazing and they’ve added a Splash Pad right next to it. (We were in town to visit family so we didn’t get to enjoy those this time).
But y’all are here for a campground review, so here it is.
Registration. You cannot register online, you must do it on the phone or in person. All of the sites with full hook-ups are taken by long-term folks (probably staying there while their homes are being rebuilt from the tornadoes and hurricane?), so they are $20 a night for water/electric. When you register over the phone, you are charged an additional $15 fee. (When I checked in, they said I would receive a refund of that $15 as a check in the mail...?). When I called the day of check-in to get the gate code, they had no idea who I was and initially wanted me to pay for a site, again. After some shuffling they finally found my paperwork.
The tent-only side still looks fine. Plush grass, large spaced out sites.
However, the RV side looks a bit rough. The sites are no longer gravel, just dirt (or, this weekend, mud) and some grass. The sites aren’t maintained between campers (as I got a half burned log, empty pack of smokes, and paper plates in mine). I was actually placed on site 7, which on the campground map is NOT a “buddy” (shared) site, and told to just plug into the same pole as the guy on Actual Site 7. Thankfully he was 50A and I was 30A so it worked out. (Although oddly enough, several full sites remained empty the whole time I was there). It rained most of the weekend, and everything was covered in wet dirt chunks when I left.
The bath house... could use a little love and a fresh coat of paint. If you can avoid the side bathrooms (maybe handicapped? The ones with just a toilet and shower), then do so. Aside from teeming with flying wildlife (which, it’s South Georgia, you have to kind of expect that), it could have used a good cleaning. The regular restrooms were passable (better than some gas stations but not as clean as state/national park I usually visit).
I understand that the area was impacted by a hurricane last year... but a little bit of cleanliness and care goes a long way.

Every site needed mowing (no rain so no excuse) and the site next to us was blocked off because of a water leak for quite some time, algae growing on the water. Trees need to be trimmed. TravelerStopped here to camp overnight on our way down to Florida from Ohio. Arrived around 9:30 and was able to check-in after hours via a box with an envelope next to the office. Only us and a few other people so it was pretty quiet. The restrooms were very clean and well lit, and in this current covid time going to a public restroom can be dicey so I appreciated that.
It is right next to the highway, which is quick and great if you’re just pulling in for the night. We camped in a truck but if you’re a tent camper you will be hearing the dull roar of the expressway all night if that bothers you!
ScoutThis campground became an unplanned stop for us following an accident on I-75 where we were hit and our fifth wheel incapacitated for about five hours. We called and they happily put us in a spot for the night if we could make it / be towed there - and didn’t bother with the financials till later since we weren’t sure we could. The staff work super hard and the park is well kept. It’s a quiet setting which has been a fantastic for us with so many insurance issues and tasks to recover our losses on our totaled rig. We had friends come and camp by us for several days just to offer support and they noticed the manager Bob works way harder than any one person should.
The only reason it wasn’t five stars is the pool is not open - a fence is down from the highway department doing some road work and the big yellow sign is also down. This made it very difficult for us to find the entrance in our damaged RV in the rain.
TravelerWe spent the weekend at the park and it was nice. We had a well shaded place and level. Site included power, water and electric... Full hook ups were all taken. Bathroom facilities were nice also. Due to the Covid19 the pool wasn't open or even started to be cleaned since the county won't allow it at this time. We took a ride to veterans state park to the lake and rode the kayaks which were really nice, and the beach area was nice. Once the pool opens, I can see quite a few trips back to the koa.
P.S. don't let the exit fool you... It was very quiet there even though it was close to the interstate and the exit is deserted.
GuideEverything this KOA has to offer is exactly what you would expect for a KOA Journey location. Full amenities, clean park, decent camp store. The only thing that is lacking is not anything to do with the KOA itself but the lack of anything else at this exit on 75 including gas and food. Have to head up the interstate an exit or two to find this stuff.
GuideSites are spaced better than most KOAs that I’ve been. 27 is a pull through. Plenty long for my 26’ class c and toad. Kamp kitchen was closed. Host were very friendly. Place looked like it needed a little love, but it is January. Maybe it will be nicer in the spring. Right off I75 but really didn’t hear the traffic too much. Arrived at 2pm and only stayed 1 night.

RangerThis KOA is just off of i75, super convenient for an overnight stop (which was what we did). Our boys loved the early 80s Era playground, but unfortunately it wasn't kept up well and was frankly dangerous- the large swingset wasn't anchored to the ground, the fence was partially torn down near the roadway, and there was rust on the equipment. They didn't kbiw the difference and played on it for an hour having lots of fun, but it is an accident waiting to happen. The woman who we dealt with at check in was awesome- super nice and friendly, and gave me a teacher discount. Our site was a nice large pull through with a picnic table and fire ring. Setup wasn't difficult. There was some wet dirt, could probably use some gravel. The campground looked to be in a retired pecan Grove. Not a ton of privacy but large sites and nice trees. While you can hear the highway, this one is not immediately adjacent but one property away, so it isn't bad. The property between the campground and the highway is a large abandoned building.. slightly shady but not a problem. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

ScoutThe gnats were pretty bad (September) but the park was fantastic. We stayed at the Pioneer Campground which actually had power, shelter and a shower block. Lots of activities to keep the family entertained, golf, swimming, the lake, war museum, a couple of restaurants as well.
Overall very happy with the place and the service of the staff.

We stayed at these two campsites for a long birthday weekend. The sites were fairly level and backed up to one of the finger coves off this lake. That ended up having pros and cons... The bugs and gnats were bad in early September on several of the nights there. It have water, cable, 50/30 amp electric, fire ring and picnic table. The site were spacious and very clean. It was an on and off rainy trip and water did come through the site because the site was off an incline. It was a slight walk to the bathrooms and they were very clean although needed a bit of upgrading. The host came up to greet us and make sure all was good with our stay. We bought firewood for $5 a bundle of 5-6 piece. There was golfing and a large swimming pool at the resort that we did not use. You could also rent pontoon boats, kayaks and canoes to explore the lake. One drawback was no sewer hookups. So you have to allow an extra hour to dump and go. We did not like having to ration water usage during out trip. This was a one and done for us as the gnats were a real turnoff and no sewer hookups. So many other parks to explore.
GuideWe camped here with our Cub Scout Pack for the weekend. Loved the museum and outdoor aircrafts and tanks! There was a easy walking trail to and from the pioneer camp. The highlight was for sure the railroad that is right next to the camping area. The passenger train comes through twice a day and it so neat to see up close. Pioneer campsite is not well marked from the main road, but that may be on purpose.
