Georgia RV Park in Commerce provides full hookup sites with 50-amp service, water, and sewer connections for motorhome travelers. This big-rig friendly facility includes a sanitary dump station, showers, and toilets, making it suitable for extended stays. Within 30 miles, Currahee RV Park in Toccoa offers year-round camping with similar amenities plus the added benefit of allowing campfires, which Georgia RV Park prohibits. Toccoa RV Park maintains 28 sites with both 30-amp and 50-amp electrical hookups, water connections, and sewer hookups on level sites. The campgrounds in this region typically feature gravel pads with varying degrees of spacing between sites. As one RV owner noted, "Some sites have precarious/dangerous sloping driveways for RVs to get into. Newly installed sites are near completion but they make sites very close together."

Navigation to several RV parks in the area requires attention to road conditions, particularly for larger motorhomes. Thousand Trails Carolina Landing, located in nearby Fair Play, SC, presents challenges with hills and tight turns that can be difficult for big rigs despite being advertised as big-rig friendly. Cell service varies by location, with most parks offering good coverage for Verizon and T-Mobile users. Pet policies are generally accommodating, with designated pet areas available at many locations. Seasonal considerations affect availability, with most RV campgrounds in the region operating year-round but experiencing higher occupancy during fall foliage season. Dump stations are available at most parks, though Twin Lakes RV Park specifically notes the awkward positioning of their facility, making it "not easy or ideal to move throughout the park once parked."

      Tugaloo State Park Campground

      Great Lake

This is a great campground. Lots of spacious campsites. Lots of choices. We were lakeside on a pull through that was a bit short for us. The site was amazing we could kayak up to our site. Pet friendly, family friendly. Power, Electric, gray water dumps near each site. Washer and dryer in each bathhouse. A beautiful campground.

      Shoal Creek Campground

Beautiful lake front AND lake view camping spots; friendly staff

This was our first RV camping experience -- testing out a new pop-up camper during a two (2) night stay. Reservations were made through Campspot -- about $120 with fees. Communication with the main number for the campground went through the Margaritaville Campground nearby. Separate direct lines to the camp office and security were provided after arrival. Overall communication was good with both, and the staff were always polite.

We skipped our first night reservation due to high winds. We had concerns about damaging the pop-up roof during first-time setup. We decided, instead, to visit the campsite we'd reserved and pick up our paperwork. Site 56 was our first choice, and we were NOT happy with it. I selected the wrong size on the Campspot website -- a 20' campsite. It was not big enough to park both the camper AND the tow vehicle, AND the camper would've been facing away from the lake anyway with water and electrical hookups.

The next morning, we called to arrange for a different site. The camp office was very accommodating and blocked off four (4) available sites to choose from. We moved to site 55, which was a large circular pull through. Probably too big for our pop-up camper, but also probably too close to trees for a larger trailer or even a 5th wheel. The campsite was large, with the picnic table, fire ring and sand pit away from the camper. There was lots of room to set up and enjoy the beautiful lake views.

Electric and water hookups worked just fine. The camp office lent a 50 amp to 30 amp adapter free of charge. We had no issues with either service. The showers and bathrooms were about 2-3 sites down and up the road from 55, and they were reasonably clean for what they were.

I WAS disappointed that the main gate was broken, and the key code locks on the showers and bathrooms were duct taped shut. However, I did not feel that the campground was all that insecure, and there did not appear to be a lot of traffic coming through. Security DID come through overnight on Sunday morning -- probably due to some noise at 1-2 of the campsites across the cove from ours. Things quieted down after. The camp host was cleaning bathrooms on Sunday morning, and he was very polite when we talked. I saw him regularly coming through to check on campsites and clean up.

Overall, we liked this campground and will be going back. I will likely request to scout out some different sites in person before selecting one, as I don't want to be in a position to have to give up my spot when it's very busy.

      Shady Grove Campground

      Great lakefront spot

We stayed at site #82 pull through. $30/night. 30' hybrid travel trailer. We will come back here again

      Pros:

      • easy to level trailer
      • excellent lakefront view (many of the sites have lakefront views)
      • private with plenty of tree cover
      • quiet
      • large site area
      • friendly gate person
      • good cell reception with t-mobile
      • clean restrooms
      • good water pressure

      Cons:

      • 30 amp issues on pole with EMS readings. 50 amp was fine
      • steep hill to get to the lake

Hard Labor Creek State Park Campground

      One of the BEST!

We were back at HLC this past weekend and, as always, top-notch park! We have tent camped for several years but recently upgraded to a new (to us) pop up and we had a blast!

We camped at site 26 (one of the newer sites) and it had full hookup (our PUP does not have a bathroom but does have a galley). The site has electric (50 amp and 30 amp service) as well as free cable TV!!

The sites at HLC are well spaced and the bath houses are spotless!!

The park staff is amazing and the camp hosts are always cleaning up and are available if you need anything!

HLC is our go-to spot for a weekend getaway because of the above-mentioned reasons and it is close to home!!

      Springfield - Hartwell Lake

Nice well kept Corp of Engineers campground

This is a typical Corp of Engineers campground, well kept with a variety of pull through and back-in sites.  Sites are 50/30/20 electric with water, picnic table and fire ring.  Many sites have a tent pad, are very level packed gravel/sand and well situated with very few having very close neighbors.  Shade is at a premium on some sites due to cutting of pine trees a couple of years ago but almost all are waterfront with an excellent view.  Some sites have direct access to the water allowing boats right at the site and swimming.  The swimming beach is very nice and well maintained as are the playgrounds.  Three bath houses are convenient to all loops, well maintained and clean.  Cell service is very good as is over the air TV with numerous channels available.  The dump station is easy in/out.  Sites 10 through 40 have awesome views of Lake Hartwell.

      Twin Lakes RV Park

A place to park with no bath, no amenities and mostly long term residents

The 5 star reviews are perplexing. We're not new to RVing and have stayed in plenty of lovely mom& pop parks. This is a family owned campground, but it is basically a parking lot with hookups for people who live there long term. Our site was on the side of a road about 50 yards away from the Dump Station. It was referred to as a premium, pull through rather than what it is... a pull to the side of the road. There was no grass or picnic table. I'll post pictures that show the condition of our site and how close the spots are to one another. The pictures online and YouTube videos of this park are very deceiving. The grassy areas beside and between the lakes can only be accessed by walking though other camper's sites.

** Use caution navigating the park because the roads at the back have no way to turn around if you get back there.

      Tallulah Gorge State Park Campground

      Incredible place to hike

Took my boys after studying the 7 Natural wonders of GA and this gorge is one of them. Did not disappoint. The hike to the bottom is not for the faint of heart. And the steps back up will challenge the most fit among us. But the views and experience is well worth the pain. Campground while being big rig friendly is a little tight ( we have a 42ft motorhome). If your large try to book sites 34 or 35 pull through. No sewers, but easy to use dump station next to the exit. Make sure you add this stop to your Must see list

Located in Banks County where temperatures range from 30°F in winter to 90°F in summer, this area features moderate humidity and over 50 inches of annual rainfall. What to do

Fishing at nearby lakes: Twin Lakes RV Park maintains two small fishing lakes with swings overlooking the water. A camper noted, "They have several swings overlooking the lake for a very relaxing view. You're allowed to fish in the lake, but no swimming or kayaking."

Historic exploration: Within 30 minutes of Currahee RV Park, visitors can explore Toccoa's historical sites. As one visitor shared, "It's near enough to Toccoa for the restaurants and shops and the museum but it's far enough off the track so that there's no traffic noise or other annoyances."

Mountain hiking: Currahee Mountain offers hiking trails just 5 minutes from campgrounds in Toccoa. A camper mentioned, "5 mins from Currahee Mountain and 10 mins from downtown Toccoa."

Shopping excursions: Commerce outlet malls provide retail therapy near Country Boys RV Park. One reviewer noted, "Good option for anyone making a day of the Outlets."

    What campers like

Clean facilities: Many RV parks maintain spotless bathrooms and laundry areas. A visitor to Pine Lake RV Campground remarked, "The bathhouse & laundry facilities are super clean!"

Spacious sites: Pine Lake RV Campground offers well-spaced spots for comfortable stays. One camper mentioned, "Lots of wide open space and nice sites."

Pet-friendly areas: Country Boys RV Park welcomes pets with designated walking spaces. A reviewer stated, "Clean pet friendly park with very nice, helpful and funny staff. New sod in between the large gravel sites."

Creek-side settings: Some sites at Currahee RV Park feature water views and private decks. A camper shared, "We were lucky enough to get a spot overlooking a creek on the property. We had a little deck that was perfect to back our toy hauler up to and open the back."

    What you should know

Site leveling challenges: Several campgrounds have uneven sites requiring additional equipment. At Thousand Trails Carolina Landing, a camper reported, "Our site- A5- was super unlevel. I felt unsafe with our fifth wheel's two left tires up in the air after auto-leveling."

Sewer connection positioning: Some parks have awkwardly placed sewer hookups. A camper at Currahee RV Park noted, "Only issue with the site is that the sewer drain is much higher than the pad and camper."

Navigation difficulties: Many parks have narrow roads and tight turns. A reviewer warned about Carolina Landing, "The park also has lots of hills which can be a challenge for some RVs. There are also some very tight turns on these hills."

Site spacing variations: Density of sites varies significantly between parks. A camper at Carolina Landing observed, "The sites are very close together. Every turn is tight. This place is full of big rigs, however, it is not conducive to them."

    Tips for camping with families

Look for playground access: While some parks have limited children's amenities, Twin Lakes RV Park offers family-friendly trails. A camper shared, "They have a really cool trail that goes behind the lake that's a mile long."

Check pool hours: Swimming facilities often have limited schedules. A visitor to Carolina Landing noted, "We had our grandson with us and the playground was closed off, and the pool closed at 4:30."

Consider seasonal activities: Holiday periods feature special events at some campgrounds. A camper at Carolina Landing mentioned, "We visited over the 4th of July weekend and they had all sorts of activities going on. Bingo, parade, fireworks, hotdogs and more!"

Verify tent options: Not all RV parks accommodate tent camping. At Country Boys RV Park, one camper observed, "The only tent sites they offer are primitive and it's a bit of a walk to the bathrooms."

    Tips from RVers

Check electrical service types: While 50-amp service is common, Toccoa RV Park offers both 30-amp and 50-amp options for different RV needs.

Confirm big rig access: Many parks advertise big-rig friendly status but have difficult navigation. A Carolina Landing visitor warned, "When you enter the park make sure you stay to the left of the sign. We made the mistake of going straight our first time at this park and almost lost our 5th wheel at the turn around by the lake."

Consider dump station accessibility: Some parks have inconveniently located facilities. A camper noted about Carolina Landing, "They do have a dump station but it is not easy or ideal to move throughout the park once parked."

Verify campfire policies: Fire restrictions vary between parks. While Currahee RV Park allows campfires, Country Boys RV Park prohibits them entirely.
