Best RV Parks & Campgrounds near Cherry Log, GA

Several RV campgrounds with full hookups are available within 30 miles of Cherry Log, ranging from resort-style properties to smaller riverside parks. Diamond Lure Campground in Ellijay offers spacious RV sites with electric, water, and sewer connections along with a lake view. Talona Ridge RV Resort in East Ellijay features concrete pads accommodating larger motorhomes, with amenities including swimming pools and planned activities. Blue Ridge RV Resort provides both pull-through and back-in sites, while Whitewater RV Park in Ocoee has 24 full-hookup sites designed for recreational vehicles. "We stayed in 'Hawk Valley' which is the lowest level and least expensive section. If we go back we will book an 'Eagle Crest' site because they have the best views."

Access to mountain RV parks can present challenges for larger rigs. Some parks near Blue Ridge have limited turning radius at entrances and within campgrounds. Cell service varies significantly between locations, with stronger coverage at elevated resort properties and spotty reception in valley campgrounds. Many parks remain open year-round, though amenities like pools typically operate seasonally from spring through fall. When traveling during apple festival season in Ellijay, advance reservations are essential as parks fill quickly. Dog-friendly accommodations are common, with several parks featuring dedicated pet areas. One traveler noted that "the sites are level and concrete with a nice fire pit," though some older establishments may have uneven gravel pads requiring leveling blocks.

    Chattanooga North-Cleveland KOA

    Clean, Quiet, Friendly

Friendly Staff, Clean Bathrooms, Convenient Location. No honeywagon for water and electric only sites, but dump station in campground. Some very nice private sites and none of the sites except maybe a few look very small or tight- pretty spread out. Lots of tent sites. You definitely hear the highway here, but not a big concern for us. Pet friendly with a very nice dog park. Pool for the kids. Playground is little more than a residential style wood swingset, but it kept the kids entertained.

    Shoal Creek Campground

Beautiful lake front AND lake view camping spots; friendly staff

This was our first RV camping experience -- testing out a new pop-up camper during a two (2) night stay. Reservations were made through Campspot -- about $120 with fees. Communication with the main number for the campground went through the Margaritaville Campground nearby. Separate direct lines to the camp office and security were provided after arrival. Overall communication was good with both, and the staff were always polite.

We skipped our first night reservation due to high winds. We had concerns about damaging the pop-up roof during first-time setup. We decided, instead, to visit the campsite we'd reserved and pick up our paperwork. Site 56 was our first choice, and we were NOT happy with it. I selected the wrong size on the Campspot website -- a 20' campsite. It was not big enough to park both the camper AND the tow vehicle, AND the camper would've been facing away from the lake anyway with water and electrical hookups.

The next morning, we called to arrange for a different site. The camp office was very accommodating and blocked off four (4) available sites to choose from. We moved to site 55, which was a large circular pull through. Probably too big for our pop-up camper, but also probably too close to trees for a larger trailer or even a 5th wheel. The campsite was large, with the picnic table, fire ring and sand pit away from the camper. There was lots of room to set up and enjoy the beautiful lake views.

Electric and water hookups worked just fine. The camp office lent a 50 amp to 30 amp adapter free of charge. We had no issues with either service. The showers and bathrooms were about 2-3 sites down and up the road from 55, and they were reasonably clean for what they were.

I WAS disappointed that the main gate was broken, and the key code locks on the showers and bathrooms were duct taped shut. However, I did not feel that the campground was all that insecure, and there did not appear to be a lot of traffic coming through. Security DID come through overnight on Sunday morning -- probably due to some noise at 1-2 of the campsites across the cove from ours. Things quieted down after. The camp host was cleaning bathrooms on Sunday morning, and he was very polite when we talked. I saw him regularly coming through to check on campsites and clean up.

Overall, we liked this campground and will be going back. I will likely request to scout out some different sites in person before selecting one, as I don't want to be in a position to have to give up my spot when it's very busy.

    Shady Grove Campground

    Great lakefront spot

We stayed at site #82 pull through. $30/night. 30' hybrid travel trailer. We will come back here again

    Pros:

    • easy to level trailer
    • excellent lakefront view (many of the sites have lakefront views)
    • private with plenty of tree cover
    • quiet
    • large site area
    • friendly gate person
    • good cell reception with t-mobile
    • clean restrooms
    • good water pressure

    Cons:

    • 30 amp issues on pole with EMS readings. 50 amp was fine
    • steep hill to get to the lake

    Talona Ridge RV Resort

    Talona Still Pleases

We arrived and had an easy check-in since this was our third stay at Talona Ridge, again to attend an RV rally. After check-in, we headed to pull-through buddy site H-25 with full hookups in the lower level of the campground, which had three levels total. The cement pad was plenty long enough to position the rig for the sewer connection at the back of the pad, while still allowing us to put the patio down and park our F450 fully on the site. Water pressure was solid at 55–60 psi. Since this was a newer RV park, there were not many mature trees yet, so satellite connectivity was not an issue. We had 3 bars on Verizon and 2 bars of 5G on T-Mobile, and we chose to use our T-Mobile Home Internet instead of Starlink, which delivered 70.1 Mbps download speeds. The campground WiFi was above average as well, testing at 64 Mbps download. There was a shower house with laundry near this site, equipped with two large washers and dryers, and the laundry app made the process convenient. We enjoyed the large dog park, along with plenty of additional areas to walk our pups. Talona Ridge had a lot to offer and remained one of our favorite campgrounds—it truly felt like a resort.

    Persimmon Creek RV Park

    Convenient access with comfortable amenities!

Let me start out by saying this was our first campground for our travel trailer.  I don't have a huge point of reference, but I can give you details on everything that was smooth

    • Location - Just off a 4 lane highway.  Convenient with easy access to your site.  Plenty of room to back in to your spot.  There were limited "pull-through" sites.  During the day you can hear highway traffic, but at night that road gets little traffic so it is quiet.
    • The owners are great!  This is a mom & pop operation but you can tell they put their heart into this place.  Both are friendly and accomodating
    • Sites are very spacious.  Our spot was freshly mowed, had a picnic table, fire pit, electric & water hookups.  We had a small stream behind and a pond in front of us.   The site we occupied had trees between our neighbors.  Just enough privacy to not worry if someone was looking in your windows.
    • While I didn't use their public restrooms, my wife said they were VERY VERY clean.  She worked in a hospital for a long time, so if she says they are clean, they are clean.  There were showers available but we did not use them.
    • They have firewood for $5 a bundle.  They encourage you to not bring firewood from other places in order to help prevent bug/disease spread (very common nowadays)
    • Two ponds for fishing.  One was closed till the weather is cooler.  I'm guessing they stock it with trout.
    • LOTS of hiking trails within a short drive.  We visited the Ocoee River and Copper Basin TN.  Easy day trip for hiking, biking, rafting, breweries, restaurants, etc.

We will definitely visit this spot again.  It's about an hour and 15 minutes from our house but feels like we are further.  Very convenient and worth it for $30 per night. $30 was the RV rate, check their website for the most up to date pricing.

    Twin Lakes RV Park

A place to park with no bath, no amenities and mostly long term residents

The 5 star reviews are perplexing. We're not new to RVing and have stayed in plenty of lovely mom& pop parks. This is a family owned campground, but it is basically a parking lot with hookups for people who live there long term. Our site was on the side of a road about 50 yards away from the Dump Station. It was referred to as a premium, pull through rather than what it is... a pull to the side of the road. There was no grass or picnic table. I'll post pictures that show the condition of our site and how close the spots are to one another. The pictures online and YouTube videos of this park are very deceiving. The grassy areas beside and between the lakes can only be accessed by walking though other camper's sites.

** Use caution navigating the park because the roads at the back have no way to turn around if you get back there.

    Battlefield Campground & RV Park

    Woodsy Wayside

Battlefield Campground is an extremely convenient RV park located right of I-75 about 20 minutes south of Chattanooga. It is very easy to get to, but part of that convenience comes with an absence of quiet; the interstate runs directly beside the campground, and is visible from the storage sites across from sites 11-24.

This is an excellent place for long-term campers, and it includes a nice playground, a pool, and a camp store/clubhouse. We could not get close to the pool or playground as they were closed due to COVID-19, which was comforting that they are taking public safety seriously. Sites include 50 and 30 amp full service, and seven tent sites in the middle of the campground that also include electric. There are seven camping cabins spaced throughout the campground that have outside picnic tables and grills, and beds inside as well as electricity.

Most of the sites here are nicely wooded, and as the area is slightly hilly there are elevation changes between several rows of sites which allows for a little more privacy than many RV parks offer.

Downsides to this park are the highway noise, and the campground roads are paved but in need of maintenance; the road is eroded in a lot of places.

Upsides are the sites are shady and well landscaped, and there are great amenities for families looking to stay here for extended periods of time, as well as the proximity to Chattanooga, Chickamauga Battlefield, and Ringold/Ft. Oglethorpe.

    411 River Rest Campground

Very nice campground in N. Georgia

For summer vacation, my family wanted to spend one day rafting the Ocoee River and one day at Six Flags in Atlanta. We picked this campground due to its location in between and within an 1-1.5hr drive of both activities. Turned out to be a great decision!

Pros: VERY nice facilities (camp store, bath houses, playground), hospitable owners/staff, kid & pet friendly

Cons: the provided Wi-Fi was unreliable on back edge of campground (AT&T cell signal was fine)

Guide to Cherry Log

RV parks around Cherry Log, Georgia sit between 1,900 and 2,100 feet elevation in the Chattahoochee National Forest region. Winter temperatures average 30-50°F with occasional snow, while summer ranges from 65-85°F with higher humidity. The area's mountainous terrain means many campgrounds feature creek-side sites with varying degrees of tree cover.

What to do

Hiking trails: Parksville Lake RV Campground provides access to numerous hiking paths. "The campground is also in close proximity to a lot of outdoor activities," notes Robert G. Many trails connect to the Ocoee Whitewater Center where the 1996 Atlanta Olympics events were held.

Creek fishing: Diamond Lure Campground offers fishing in their on-site lake. "Scenery is wooded and rustic with a tranquil lake on the property. The Hosts are very accommodating and have a camp store on site for basic needs, ice and firewood," writes Donald G.

Water activities: Parksville Lake RV Campground provides proximity to Parksville Lake beaches and boat ramps. "Close by Occoee White Water center where the Atlanta olympics took place. Plan your visit around the water release. There schedule is online. Pretty cool to see the water trickle and then mass if water come at you," advises Linda B.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Parksville Lake Campground maintains well-kept bathrooms and showers. "Very clean, decent sized lots. Clean bathroom and shower. Nice little creek flows nearby, had a great experience!" reports Bill G.

Friendly management: Talona Ridge RV Resort offers exceptional customer service. "The staff is super friendly and make the stay more enjoyable. While there the staff would give us rides to the pool and even cared to bring our children kool aid pouches!" shares Logan S.

Site privacy: Whispering Pines Campground provides peaceful, well-spaced camping areas. "This campground has 21 spaces, and some will hold the large rigs. We had a 38' 5th wheel trailer and it nicely fit in our space with room for the truck," mentions Tom M., adding that "it is a very peaceful place to spend time. You can camp along the creek and fall asleep to the running water."

What you should know

Mountain driving challenges: Access to rv parks near Cherry Log involves navigating mountain roads. Chilhowee Campground requires caution: "Coming up the mountain has some steep grades and a few switch backs that you can't see around. There are often oncoming vehicles who are often driving to fast and not considering those of us in large vehicles," warns Mike N.

Variable cell service: Connection quality depends on location and elevation. At Chilhowee Campground, "in the B loop there is NO AT&T in spite of what this site says. You may get a weak signal on the other side, but it's spotty at best. There appeared to be a Verizon tower on the mountain, so that will probably work," reports Mike N.

Reservation timing: For popular Cherry Log RV parks, early booking is essential. "We went during the Ellijay apple festival, so they were busy, but the campground was great!" notes Gretchen about her stay at Diamond Lure Campground.

Tips for camping with families

Swimming options: Blue Ridge RV Resort offers family water activities. "Kids loved playing in the creek that the owners have stocked regularly with trout, nice playground and pool for the kids, site has a soccer field also and Cornhole boards," shares Brianna L.

Kid-friendly hiking: Chilhowee Campground features trails suitable for various ages. "We did the Benton Falls hike and it was lovely! 3 miles RT," shares Tracy J., making it manageable for families with children.

Dog accommodations: Diamond Lure Campground welcomes pets with dedicated facilities. "They have things for dogs! (Dog bath, dog beach, dog park, ect). I'd recommend this place 1,000 times over!!!" exclaims Corey G.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: Foxfire of Murphy RV Park offers spacious lots. "The spacious full hookup sites provided plenty of room for our travel trailer plus two vehicles, and the reliable WiFi ensures you stay connected," notes Debra L.

Leveling requirements: Rivers Edge Mountain RV Resort has level sites for larger rigs. "Very nice campground. Large sites and very well kept grounds," reports Kevin S.

Utility considerations: At Parksville Lake Campground, "Water hookups shared throughout the campground, not dedicated to each site," explains Lindsay C. This means filling tanks before setting up, especially for extended stays at rv parks near Cherry Log.
